Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Sam, it's time.
Time for the Burning river sportscast.
I'd like to first thank the Cleveland Browns for making me a really bad parent this afternoon. I think I dropped about 30F bombs in a span of 15 seconds as the Browns did the improbable and snatched victory from the jaws of certain defeat today.
Ryan jams. How are you?
[00:01:20] Speaker B: I'm doing good. I'm really not turned that I'm at a work conference right now and wasn't able to see as much of the game as I would have really liked. But I'm really excited that we won. Nobody saw that coming.
[00:01:35] Speaker A: No, we did not.
[00:01:36] Speaker B: No, not at all.
[00:01:37] Speaker A: Definitely did not.
[00:01:39] Speaker B: So there's been worse days.
[00:01:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, I'm always happy to be wrong about a Brown's prediction when they win.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: And I'll say this to you, Kenny, not that I respect you or anything and I don't ever want to make you feel better, but give yourself some grace. You know, sometimes things happen when you're a parent and this is one of those things, you know, you're a Brown fan.
[00:02:00] Speaker A: My wife and son had taken a nap during the game and they just, just woken up and so like they were both a little groggy and she was like, whoa, man, you gotta cool it.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: You were like, we're watching.
[00:02:13] Speaker A: The Browns was like, you don't understand. This game was as good as over.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: Yeah, she doesn't get it.

[00:05:27] Speaker A: I was going to say probably quick programming note.
The show probably will be released Friday this week.
[00:05:34] Speaker B: Friday. Oh yeah.
For work. So yeah, we're recording late so it might come out Friday. Yeah, I had that in the show notes at the End. It should probably be here.
[00:05:43] Speaker A: But you're telling people now to listen Thursday, and it won't.
[00:05:45] Speaker B: Yeah. So it's a good, good job out of you.
[00:05:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:48] Speaker B: Really paying attention there, Kenny.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: That's what I do. I'm a details guy.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: Yeah, don't worry. Dude's in the house. He said, let's effing go, Brownies.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: Yeah, we already posted that on the show.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm trying to do, like, six screens at once. Kenny, let me.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: That's why I'm here. I'm helping.
[00:06:04] Speaker B: Yeah, you don't usually do anything.
But listen, before I bring the takes.
[00:06:10] Speaker A: I bring the takes.
[00:06:13] Speaker B: Okay, you bring the tank, maybe the taint.
No, the tank. Because you're big. You're a big guy.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:06:23] Speaker B: Before we get less big than I used to be.
Still fat.
[00:06:29] Speaker A: We're down to. Down 72 now as of this morning.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: Pretty soon you're gonna be nobody.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: But maybe someday.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Listen, before we get to the recap, I just have to mention this week, you know, I'm. I'm. I'm out of town. I'm in New Orleans right now.
My uncle is also in New Orleans, and he happened to go to the Brownsbackers bar today. I was not able to make it, but he went to the Brownsbackers bar today, and he said hello to our friend Robert Tickner, who we have.
Yeah, we. We interviewed them last year for the New Orleans game, and we were there.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: We went there.
[00:07:08] Speaker B: Yeah. And Robert did remember us. He. He actually gave my uncle a shirt to give me. So just quick shout out to them. It was cool that my uncle was able to. To visit them, and it was somebody we'd interviewed. And then on top of that, we had friends out in Colorado this week at Color in Colorado Springs, and they wanted to watch the game. The only place you could watch the games when you're across the country is Brown's Backers Bars. So they looked it up. They found it. They went to the Pikes Peak Brownsbackers bar, which is. I think that's single barrel out there. And Aaron Maroney, president of the Pikes Peak Brownsbackers, said hello to him for us, because not only have we interviewed them, but they are also. We are a. An official.
We are the official podcast Fight Speak Brownsbackers. So it was neat to get a shout out from them.
And just like, the fact that we had, like, people all over the country and. And we've already connected with these Browns backers and. And featured them on our show. Like, it's just. It's just neat.
[00:08:04] Speaker A: That's why we do what we do. We love the Browns backers, we love the Browns community and we're integrated. We're out there. We out there boots on the ground, talking to fans every week.
And we were the original and the official. That's why we're the unofficial podcast of Cleveland brownsbackers everywhere.
[00:08:23] Speaker B: Nobody knows.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: They're trying to jump on the bandwagon and oh, let's talk to the brownsbaggers. We've been talking to brownsbaggers. We've been doing it. And that's what we do.
[00:08:32] Speaker B: That's what we do.
But with that, let's get into the week three recap.
I mean, let's just. Do you want to start with the good or the bad? Because even though we did win, there was some badness. Do you want to start?
[00:08:42] Speaker A: We should probably cover the good first. I mean, look, we don't want to poo poo. A win like the wind's a win counts.
[00:08:48] Speaker B: Not at all. But I was thinking maybe if we do bad first, the rest of the show would be good.
[00:08:51] Speaker A: No, I think we're gonna probably trend into the the bad. That's okay, you know.
[00:08:55] Speaker B: Well, then we'll start with the defense.
[00:08:56] Speaker A: We can't get ahead of ourselves. Right. A win is a win is a win, but this team is still not super bowl bound. So I think we'll get there eventually.
[00:09:04] Speaker B: Right? So we'll start with the defense if we want to start with the good.
This defense is as good as I've seen a defense and I saw the defense of, of Jim Schwartz 2 years ago when they were dominant and they're scary good. Yeah, I don't know that I've ever seen a defense like this.
[00:09:24] Speaker A: This is an elite unit. Right now they're playing, I mean, just lights out, you know. And again, we'll cover some of the bad here, but with the offense really not pulling their weight, this defense is single handedly keeping the Cleveland Browns in football games and you know, in games like today, winning games for this team, for this franchise.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: So yeah, absolutely.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: Job all the way around.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: And I know we talked about it kind of off the air right before we started is they're doing this without two of their top players on defense. I mean, obviously J. Okay, nobody. We still don't know if or when he's going to be able to play again.
And then Martin Emerson done for the season. So you're doing this without two top players. And if you want to throw in, Greg Newsom didn't play for most of the fourth quarter because he was cramping. So imagine what they'd be doing with those guys.
[00:10:13] Speaker A: Throw in two other studs on this defense and just imagine how good this unit could be. And they're playing really well right now. Not to take anything away from this group, they are absolutely playing well. But to your point, I mean you're missing two pretty key cogs there that would elevate this team and this defense even further. So yeah, yeah, awesome job. Schwartz and the whole crew have really put together excellent game plans. They are stopping the run.
We finally got some turnovers today, which I know Bone Man's been calling for.
[00:10:42] Speaker B: So he's gonna be so excited.
[00:10:45] Speaker A: He's gonna have to come up with a new key to victory this week.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Now he can still go with the same one because they didn't win the turnover battle. They just the same amount of turnovers. But no, yeah, I mean, and let's just talk about that interception for a second.
The interception that Grant Delpa had. And then you know, Rant, basically he said, okay, we haven't got much out of our offense at this point. I'm gonna single handedly, I'm gonna take this interception, I'm gonna almost run it back for a touchdown. You only have to get 4 yards after this offense. I mean, by the way, I'm going to truck stick Jordan Love on my way to the four yard line.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: Beautiful, beautiful man move just taking Jordan Love down.
But I'm pretty sure like in his mind that's exactly what he was thinking was like this offense ain't going to do a squat. So if I don't score an owl, we're probably in trouble. And he was darn near close to getting it in the end zone.
But to your point, I mean, at least made it easy on the other side, right?
[00:11:36] Speaker B: Yeah, 100%. Like just full defensive effort today.
It didn't matter what point of the game it was. They came up with play after play after play after play and they said we're going to put as good an effort as we can forth because we know that we score 13.2 points per game over the last eight games.
We'll get to that stat in a second. But yeah, to your point, they said we have to hold them under that. And so that's what they did.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah, and if you look at the running, the running game again today for, for Green Bay, I think Jacobs had 30 yards on 16 carries. So a cool 1.9 yards per carry there.
You know, Jordan Love got loose on A couple of boots, but didn't do a whole lot of damage. So, you know, well under 100 yards for the day.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: Total total rushing for Green Bay is 81.
[00:12:22] Speaker A: Yeah. So. And that was between like four or five guys. So. Yeah, you know, just a bang up job. That defense was disruptive and in the backfield all day long you had performances from a lot of different guys on, on that defensive front.
You know, McGuire, right. Shelby, Shelby Harris I think had the big.
[00:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean as a team kick.
As a team, we had five sacks. So that's, that's a big day. You got Alex Wright had one.
Mason Graham, Miles Garrett.
[00:12:50] Speaker A: Mason Graham played well.
[00:12:51] Speaker B: Aiden Huntington all had half a sack.
[00:12:54] Speaker A: And was all over the field.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: Yeah, Schwiesinger had a sack and was all over the field. Malik Collins had a sack and a half. So.
Yeah, always good to have that extra half sack.
Yeah, you don't want to just stop at one. Give me an extra half.
[00:13:10] Speaker A: That was the other one. Well, Miles said I'm taking half of that, so.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: Yeah, but no, I mean, just, just huge defensive efforts all around and I'm not trying to downplay the win. It was a fantastic win against a really good football team. I think you're going to be hearing a lot about the packers as the season goes on.
But what I'll say is like the, the only downside to this is like this is the effort it's going to take every single game for the Browns to win. And it's just, it's really hard to repeat that continually.
[00:13:43] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, look, you, you even guys like Miles, I mean they played the, they played so well, but even Miles was gassed when you had the big opportunity with Green Bay backed up on their own two or one there couldn't even get in the game was it was catching error. But I think that just speaks to like how hard this team was playing to keep them in the game that they had to, you know, rotate guys. Even in a situation where like that could have been a game changing opportunity if Miles could have made a big play there and just couldn't get in the game.
[00:14:09] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely.
[00:14:10] Speaker A: Yeah, I think tough, tough to replicate week over week to get that same type of effort out of your defense. I mean, look, as long as this offense is going to continue to score no points every week, this defense is going to have to pitch shutouts and you know, you can sneak a few games that way. This was certainly one of them.
But you're going to have to get more out of the offense eventually.
[00:14:29] Speaker B: Yeah. And so, I mean, I guess that's where we start transitioning over into the bad. Right, because. Because it just kind of came up. But is the offense obviously not good again today?
Let's see here. Total yards for the offense you had. Passing wise, you had 125 passing yards.
I mean, officially, Joe Flacco had 142. I don't really was as a sack got taken off the yard. Yeah. So, yeah, two sacks for 17 yards. So.
But yeah, Joe Flacco threw for 142 yards in an interception. No touchdowns on 36 attempts. Like, that's terrible.
[00:15:04] Speaker A: And that's one of the things that's really concerning about this offense right now, because coming into today, The Browns had 90 pass attempts over two weeks, which is tied for most in the NFL.
And then you had another 36 today.
[00:15:16] Speaker B: What were they ranked at, like 28 in passing yards?
[00:15:19] Speaker A: They were somewhere in the middle 12 or 14 or so.
But.
[00:15:23] Speaker B: But yeah, my point was just that it doesn't match the attempt.
[00:15:26] Speaker A: Yeah, it doesn't matter. The production doesn't match the activity, which is not where you want to be.
Look, I love Joe Flacco. I'm not saying that, like this team is going to go on a run and win if they make a quarterback change, but, man, he just doesn't look like the same Joe Flacco from two years ago.
This offense needs some kind of spark. And, you know, one of the good things I think we saw today was they did finally, at least at the end of the game, get the run game going a bit. Quinn, Sean had a really nice couple of runs that really sparked the first points of the game there. That drive towards the end of the game, he had just ripped off a couple big ones. And then you had Harold Fannin on just making man moves, trying to get extra yardage too. So the rookies, you know, had a. Had a little bit of a renaissance today and picked this team up when it was down. And, you know, it's just going to. It's going to have to come from all over right now because this offense is just not consistent enough to move the ball and sustain drives.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And quick shout out to James Frank on Facebook.
He just all exclamation points and yelling and telling us he has no voice and what a win. And Yeah, I mean, look, we. We're not trying to. I know we're getting into the bad here and I don't. I don't want to, you know, bring everybody down. That's not the. That's not what we're trying to do here. It's just more so to say, yeah, we're. We're as excited as anybody.
This was an awesome win. Yeah, it was fantastic to watch. It was a fun game.
But the fact of the matter still remains that, like, you know, don't, don't. Let's not play the typical or the. The. The old school Cleveland Browns were fans where we're like, all right, super bowl time.
[00:17:05] Speaker A: Like it's.
[00:17:06] Speaker B: Let's be real here. Like, that's not going to happen.
[00:17:08] Speaker A: And 1 and 2 feels a lot better than 03, but this team has a lot of work to do if they're. If they're going to put themselves in the conversation of a competitive football team each week because 13, 16 points just ain't getting it done. And right now, you're just not getting the play out of the quarterback position that you need. And I know this W receiver room is light and you're counting on guys like Isaiah Bond and Cedric Tillman to step up.
Jamari Thrash had to hold two catches and seven yards today. Like, you're not getting a lot of help across the board, but it's not like you don't have any tools at all. Quinn. Shawn was very good today.
I've seen good things out of Dylan Sampson already, which we didn't see a lot of today.
And you know, you have two really good tight ends in Joku and Fanon. So it's like you gotta. You figure out what works and capitalize and optimize those guys and the performance you're getting from them because you're just not getting a lot of help from the guys that you do expect it from. Like Jerry Judy right now.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: Yeah, to your point on Quinshon, James Frank sent in a couple. There's a couple back to back. I'm just gonna read both of these. The first one, and these are on Facebook. That's why they're not connected to you, Kenny. But Judkins with the plays. When needed, though, our O line starts playing good. Judkins will be lights out. That's a big if, James.
If our O line starts playing good.
[00:18:30] Speaker A: Yeah, speaking of the O line, I mean, are we done with the dawn experiment here with big Thanos? I mean, the dude just can't stay on the field.
[00:18:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: You know, I think there's a reason why there's not a lot of NFL tackles that are 375 to 400 pounds.
[00:18:45] Speaker B: Yeah, he did go on to admit that. James did.
He said, bro, I'm drinking the Kool Aid.
But you guys are speaking facts. Feels good to steal a win during a tough part of the schedule. Yeah, I mean, absolutely. And that's what we're saying is.
[00:18:57] Speaker A: Yeah, it's.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Everybody should enjoy this because this is a win. Let's be honest. The Browns.
Well, in. The Browns should not have won this game.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: No. They had no business winning this game. This was a team. This is a team that's probably going to either win their division this year or going to be in the playoffs. A lot of people have them, you know, as a top, you know, potential super bowl type pick.
And the Browns, just for the first two weeks, haven't been a very good football team.
[00:19:20] Speaker B: No.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: So you definitely stole one today.
[00:19:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:23] Speaker A: Feels good.
[00:19:23] Speaker B: Feels good. It does feel good.
But I do want to get back to you. You started to mention, basically, Joe Flacco.
You know, we. We love Joe Flacco, but I still stand by. We need to move on to Gabriel. I kind of wish we would have done it in this game.
Joe Flacco did. Even though we won the game, Joe, that wasn't because of Joe Flacco at all. He could not move the offense to save his life.
So, I mean, I don't know, even in the second half, I don't know how many three and outs we had or even if it wasn't three and out. It was like we got one first down and then we went negative 20 yards in the next few plays.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: And I don't know if it's. If it's, you know, play calling. I don't know if it's, you know, 40, 41 years old.
It just doesn't. Doesn't have the same fire, doesn't have the same intensity. We're not stretching the field.
You know, the. The balls that he has thrown deep. I mean, today, I mean, the interception before the end of the half was kind of a throwaway play anyway, but still wasn't a very good throw.
You know, the couple other longer throws that he made were just very errant and out of bounds on the sidelines. Like those were the throws that he was hitting two years ago. The ones that we all went, wow, where'd this guy come from?
And he hasn't been able to connect on those. He hasn't been overly accurate. I've seen a lot of balls either really low. The receivers have had to try to make great plays on. I've seen balls that are really high. They're having to do the same.
It's not like he's Hitting these guys in the hands consistently. And again, I don't know if it's play calling. Is it him trying to protect the football?
Is it just him being two years older and father time is kind of taking its toll, but he's not the same. He's not playing with the same reckless abandon, the same freedom and the same big arm talent that we saw two years ago.
[00:21:01] Speaker B: And while that's all true, like, I don't even think any of that honestly matters. Like, like it does, but it doesn't. What I'm getting at is, is if this is the level of play, it doesn't matter whose fault it is, whether it's Stefanski's or his or whoever's, it doesn't matter.
The fact is the offense is completely stagnant. So at this point, if that's what you're seeing, I know it's early and, and I know a lot of fans don't want to hear it early, but you have two rookies that need evaluated and you're going to have probably two top five picks next year to potentially go after another quarterback. So we need to get this show on the road and figure out what we got. And I don't. Here's the bottom line. Is, are. Is. Is switching to Dylan Gabriel right now or should or Sanders? Because I know people are going to say, don't forget about Shador. The fact is he's not next up on the depth chart switching to Dill. Dylan Gabriel, Are you going to be any worse than you are with Flacco? No. You're going to be the same or better.
[00:21:57] Speaker A: And there's, you know, certain to be said about experience and leadership and the consistency that a guy like Joe going anywhere but Dylan Gabriel and Shadur, to an extent, you know, bring a different level of mobility to the game, which looks badly needed right now.
Joe has not been overly. I mean, he never has been. He's a, you know, pocket passing type of guy. But.
But sometimes you just need a little bit of movement in the pocket to, you know, evade a rush, extend the play, which both of those guys have at least, you know, to, to an extent the ability to make one guy miss and keep your eyes downfield and throw the football. So.
And Joe is just not in that. In that game right now. And then I don't. And that's not something that's going to come back to Joe's game as he continues to get older. I mean, Joe Blacko is as young today as he's going to be all season. And There was no. There was no mobility there at all.
[00:22:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
Yeah. So I. I don't know, like, to me, I'm like, yeah, we won a game, and that's great. I'm thrilled. But at the same time, it doesn't change my stance on the quarterback right now.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: No. Yeah. I mean, look, again, it feels good. You haven't won a game since before Thanksgiving last year. Feels way better to be 1 and 2.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: So happy we didn't make it to the calendar year that we were talking about. That would have felt bad.
[00:23:12] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, 300 days was long enough to wait for a Browns win, but.
But, yeah, I mean, we got to get real here with the idea that we talked about the losing streak over the last eight games, last regular season games, and that this team has averaged 13 points a game. If you'd have told me today before the game started, the Browns are going to score 13 points, do you think they win or lose? I'd tell you they're going to lose every single time.
13 points is not enough to win the NFL consistently.
This defense played lights out, and if they can do that all year long, I mean, geez, it's a really tough way to win football games and you can steal a couple like this one, but the offense is just. It just has to do more. And so they got to either figure something else out differently or at some point, like you said, like, we have to evaluate these young quarterbacks. I don't know that even with the win today, like, hopefully no one's under the delusion that this team is going to go on some deep playoff run.
Win feels good.
[00:24:05] Speaker B: You know, they're out there.
[00:24:05] Speaker A: Football feels good. But this team is not super bowl bound. And, you know, you've got some young players that are, you know, Quinn, Sean and Harold Fan Jr. They're stepping up, making big plays. The defense is really, really good. It's kind of a shame. You're going to have a great defensive effort. I think all year that's going to kind of go to waste because this team just isn't built to go deep into the playoffs. But this defense on any of the other 31 teams in the NFL would be, you know, difference maker for a team that was on the edge of, you know, being a competitive football team or being a d. Playoff run team. So you can do a lot of damage there, but this offense just has to do more.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: Yeah, and I will say this, too. Just, you know, we're talking down the offense a little bit right now. I do want to say Quin Sean Judkins, he looks good.
And if we can get some better play out of the offensive line, if we can get a little bit of production out of the quarterback, like, again, I'm not saying we're going to be this team that's going to be world beaters this year, because our offense just isn't.
Isn't high powered enough to do that. But you might start winning at least some games if you can get some production around him. Because Quinjo Judkins looked like a man today. Yeah.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: And he is. He's a good.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: And here, here's the other thing. For anybody that was curious on if they were actually going to use him as a bell cow back, there was 19 carries today and he got 18 of them.
So, yeah, they basically, they said, which actually let me, before I even get to him, they said, jerome Ford, go take a seat. Which is they've been needing to do for a long time, and Dylan Sampson only had a single carry.
[00:25:43] Speaker A: So I still saw too much Jerome Ford out on the field today.
[00:25:46] Speaker B: I mean, he was still involved in, like, the passing game. He had four catches for 10 yards.
[00:25:50] Speaker A: But I'd much rather see Dylan Sampson get those touches.
[00:25:53] Speaker B: Oh, I mean, I agree with that as well, but I'm just saying, like, the fact that they've already laid into it and said, you know what, you're. You're the running back of choice in this offense. Yeah, I can get on board with that. And I, and I think we talked about it last week, actually. I said if, if he turns into that type of back, I would not be surprised if they move Jerome Ford before the trade deadline. So.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: Well, I just think, too, it's going to be a question of does this offensive line look like week to week? Because we've already seen Conklin in and out of the lineup, dejuan Jones in and out of the lineup.
You know, can these guys stay healthy and, you know, can they. Can they put together consistent performances each week with guys that are kind of mix and match and, and seeing what you have? But, I mean, I have not been impressed with Dejan Jones at this point. Heard again today.
I don't know.
[00:26:43] Speaker B: We're gonna have to do something. I think that's going to be an area where we see some movement before the, before the, you know, before trade deadlines and whatever. I, I just. They have to bring in some offensive linemen. Like, what?
How can you not. But I guess we've been saying this for three years now, and here we are. So.
[00:26:59] Speaker A: Yeah, all that to say, I mean, again, you know, you called it kind of a fun game. I would say it wasn't a whole lot of fun until there was about five minutes up to the fourth quarter.
[00:27:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean it looked like another game that we kind of expected.
Yeah, I mean the defense was playing really well. Like when it was 10 nothing after the third quarter it looked like another game that it's been all season long where we're like, the defense is actually doing a really good job. Our offense is really bad.
[00:27:24] Speaker A: You kind of just kept waiting for that other shoe to drop.
[00:27:27] Speaker B: It did it today though.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: Never did it today.
[00:27:29] Speaker B: As a matter of fact, what typically happens to the Browns happened to the packers today.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: So yeah, I mean it was a very Brownsian loss for, for the packers for sure.
[00:27:44] Speaker B: James is, James is going off on, on Facebook right now and he said he's got a few comments in a row, but he said bye bye Ford fix your repair daily.
So yeah, that's very true and I will say I, I, I. He actually mentioned this is Barry's drift best draft class and I would have to agree with it. It's still very early. So we don't know. I mean some of these guys have really good first years and then they just kind of fall apart after that. So I think we're gonna, it's gonna be a while before you for sure know how good these guys are. But the fact that we've got three rookies that are producing regularly already, I mean, that's, I would just, just because of that. That's his best draft so far.
[00:28:25] Speaker A: Yeah. And I know he gets a lot of credit for the cap stuff and this and that, but it's like imagine starting a new relationship with a friend. Like the, the day we met. Let's say the day that we met, you just punched me square in the face. And then every time I saw you for five years, you punched me square in the face. And then one of those times you were like, here's some chocolate. And I was like, that was really nice of you, Ronnie. Thanks for this chocolate. I think you're one of my best friends. Like that's where I'm at with Andrew.
I've been punched in the face every day by this guy with trash picks. The Baker debacle. He's three zero, by the way. Another game winning drive. Under two minutes this week.
[00:28:59] Speaker B: But was that three in a row.
[00:29:01] Speaker A: Stats or wins or anything here? Apparently that's low IQ footballs when you talk about numbers. But, but yeah, I just, if you. If you get punched in the face consistently by somebody, that doesn't make them a good friend because they do something nice once. So, yeah, Quinn, John, good pick.
[00:29:15] Speaker B: We'll see.
[00:29:16] Speaker A: Schweisinger looks good so far. We also have two quarterbacks on this roster that we haven't done anything to evaluate, so we'll see how either of those turn out.
But, yeah, I mean, I'm not saying let's write off this draft class right now. That's. I mean, that's a good thing, I guess. Three weeks into the year, we'll take that as a win here in Cleveland.
[00:29:32] Speaker B: I'm gonna test your theory. The. When I see you next time, we're gonna walk up to you, punch you square in the nose.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: Yeah, but. But like, that's the opposite, right? Like, we have a long term friendship where you haven't punched me in the face every day for five years. You say mean things.
[00:29:46] Speaker B: I'm gonna punch you every day. I'm gonna punch you in the face every day for the next five years.
[00:29:50] Speaker A: But, yeah, I mean, at some point I'm gonna be like. Like, I don't know why I keep hanging out. This guy keeps punching me in the square in the face. Like, that's not fun.
[00:29:58] Speaker B: James liked your metaphor. He said, this is so accurate.
He also said we're gonna see number four before the end of the season. So I, I hope to God we don't. Like, we're not supposed to mention his name. We're trying really hard not to mention his name on our podcast.
[00:30:12] Speaker A: So I did, I did see a report that they, they were at, you know, workouts with him this week and apparently liked what they saw.
[00:30:21] Speaker B: So somebody just, Somebody punched me in the face right now.
Right in the face.
[00:30:27] Speaker A: Andrew Barry, where are you? I saw some clips of DW4 and Jim shorts, you know, doing cone drill, drop backs and, and delivering passes.
[00:30:35] Speaker B: I'll tell you what, if there's, if nothing else, that dude always. He posts, he posts some hype videos, I'll tell you that. Like, he's. He gets himself excited to come back to the Browns, that's for sure.
[00:30:46] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, who, I guess, who knows we're one and two, right? Maybe DW4 comes back and he's the answer and the Brads win the super bowl this year. No, he totally redeems himself.
[00:30:55] Speaker B: We makes, we make fun of ourselves sometimes for like 14 people listening to us. That's like, that's like his Instagram posts of his workouts. It's like, yay, yeah, Yeah, I like this.
[00:31:08] Speaker A: I like the Instagram post.
[00:31:09] Speaker B: Said he only calls him by his number. He won't say his name either.
[00:31:12] Speaker A: I liked the. The post this week of him celebrating his birthday as the Browns were being throttled by the Ravens last week.
[00:31:18] Speaker B: Did you. Did you see that? The Browns too. So like the Browns wish somebody else happy birthday. Like it was either that same day.
[00:31:24] Speaker A: Orson. The same day. Yeah.
[00:31:26] Speaker B: And then it was like, oh, yeah, I guess we probably have to wish DeSean Watson a birthday happy birthday too. So they did. Yeah.
[00:31:34] Speaker A: While the Browns were being throttled.
[00:31:36] Speaker B: So, yeah. Anyways, and then obviously we didn't get. We didn't talk about it yet, but Andre Schmidt.
[00:31:43] Speaker A: Holy Schmidt.
[00:31:45] Speaker B: He totally redeemed yourself.
[00:31:47] Speaker A: Well, I don't say he totally redeemed himself. I think we're back to. We're back to par with him.
[00:31:52] Speaker B: You cost us week one.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: Yeah. We were real mad.
[00:31:56] Speaker B: Now you. Now you want us a game. So now we're. We're even.
[00:31:58] Speaker A: Now you went two weeks with making your kicks. We feel. We feel better about it now.
[00:32:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:05] Speaker A: Today. But kick made a long kick to win the game against a team he shouldn't have beat. So we'll give him his flowers today. Absolutely. I mean, you figure he had what, seven out of the Browns 13 points. So he was the majority stakeholder today in production.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: So good on you single handedly trying to save Bubba Ventrone's job, you know, but yeah, I mean, no. Good for Schmidt. The fact that he is a. I know he's not a rookie, but a first year kicker in the league, like first year, like actually playing in the league. The fact that you were able to face some adversity in your very first game and bounce back and you've been solid since then is just. It's at least promising because, you know, if it was.
[00:32:46] Speaker A: If it was promising might be too strong a word. Encouraging is. Is, I think sufficient.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: Well, if it was, I just know.
[00:32:52] Speaker A: If it was promising is like he's gonna be the kicker here for the next three to five years and I don't know that I'm there yet.
[00:32:57] Speaker B: It was encouraging.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: Encouraging. And I don't have that because I was. Look, here's the thing. When the Browns went. Scored that touchdown after the interception, you.
[00:33:05] Speaker B: Thought he was gonna miss the extra point.
[00:33:07] Speaker A: I was uncertain he was gonna miss.
[00:33:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:10] Speaker A: I was just waiting. I was just like, if this was.
[00:33:13] Speaker B: Kate York or especially Dustin Hopkins, I.
[00:33:16] Speaker A: Would have already bought a jersey.
[00:33:18] Speaker B: No, no, no.
Opposite. I'm saying if he. If they would have faced adversity in that first game, they definitely would still be missing kicks.
[00:33:26] Speaker A: True. So Dustin Hopkins never got right after he missed a couple.
[00:33:30] Speaker B: No, he's, he's like, oh, like he had that great year and he did it. He hit everything. And then after that, he missed one field goal. He's like, I don't know what to do.
[00:33:37] Speaker A: I don't know how to kick anymore. I forget. I forgot the one thing I do. I don't know how to do it.
[00:33:42] Speaker B: Yeah, great job out of Andre Schmidt. It was exciting to see him hit the game winner. It wasn't even, it wasn't close on 55 yarder. That's a good, good, you know, distance.
[00:33:51] Speaker A: It's a real nice boot.
Speaking of kickers, I think did see the Falcons cut loose young way coup.
I would definitely at least, you know, bring that guy in.
[00:34:00] Speaker B: Kick the tires.
[00:34:02] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, kick the. And no pun intended.
[00:34:07] Speaker B: See what I did there?
[00:34:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Brilliant. You're so clever.
[00:34:11] Speaker B: Yeah. It just comes to me.
But no, with that, I mean, I, I don't really, you know, there's a lot that we could dissect with this game.
[00:34:20] Speaker A: Frankly, I'm still processing, like, to be quite honest, like, like I'm a little confused.
[00:34:24] Speaker B: I'm not sure what to do with my hands.
[00:34:28] Speaker A: It was a very interesting game the way it developed. You know, everything was on the table. I'm thinking, oh, geez, what are we gonna do in overtime? What's gonna happen?
And then miraculously you block the kick and get the ball back. And you know, the offense didn't do a whole lot, but it did just enough to get you into, you know, long field goal range. And I like the offensive victory.
[00:34:50] Speaker B: You gave it to us on the 4th. We could do this.
[00:34:52] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I, I, I almost look at that at, you know, when they got the ball after the, the missed kick, I was almost like, you know, if Andre Schmidt had missed that kick to win the game again, like, I can't even blame that kid for that, right? He had. It was a 55 yard kick. It wasn't like the offense took a, a reasonable shot at trying to put him into a decent, you know, make it a 39 or 45 yarder. Like they were like, we did the absolute bare minimum. You should be able to make it from here, right?
[00:35:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
This is, this is foolproof. Foolproof. At this point, you guys have to score like you have no choice.
[00:35:29] Speaker A: That's exactly what I expected out of the Browns offense with 20 seconds left was. Let's move the ball three yards.
[00:35:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
But no. So, yeah, I mean, I'm with you. I'm still kind of processing. I'm still just trying to enjoy the game because we don't get many of these.
So. Yeah, I'm. I'm just gonna leave it. Leave it there for now. We could do more, but, you know, I'm sure we'll talk more about it when we got Bone.
[00:35:50] Speaker A: Good week for Cleveland. And look. And the guards are on the precipice of playoff again today. Potentially. I don't. I don't. Is that game over? Would they play at 2:00'? Clock? I didn't even see.
[00:36:00] Speaker B: Hold on.
[00:36:00] Speaker A: Bad baseball fan out of me.
[00:36:02] Speaker B: Hold on, please.
The Guardians where's.
[00:36:07] Speaker A: They lost today. So they lost.
[00:36:09] Speaker B: That's not good.
[00:36:10] Speaker A: Feels bad. Where's got the. They got the Tigers coming up here. So.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Where's Detroit? Did Detroit win or lose?
Detroit lost too. So we're still only half a game back. We're good.
[00:36:20] Speaker A: We're still right there.
[00:36:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:22] Speaker A: Yeah. So good. Good. You know, for right now in September, Browns guards, like things are good for one week here in Cleveland. We stay the execution for a few days and, you know, we'll live to fight another day.
[00:36:37] Speaker B: Yep. So with that, let's. Let's do our burning response Dog of the week nominees. We'll start with Bone.
Just because he's not here, he sent in Schwiesinger as his dog of the week nominee.
And then we'll go to Kenny. Kenny, who you got?
[00:36:53] Speaker A: You know, I've been thinking about this the entire time we've been on the.
[00:36:57] Speaker B: Show going away from who you picked and you're gonna give it to Schmidt.
[00:36:59] Speaker A: I gotta go. I gotta throw a real curveball here.
I gotta go. Brown's defense collectively, this. This was just.
[00:37:09] Speaker B: That's a cop out.
[00:37:10] Speaker A: I'm sorry.
I'm going with this week. Brown's defense, collectively, that. That defense won this football game.
I can't pick a guy. I can't pick a guy. The defense was too good and there were too many good performance.
[00:37:22] Speaker B: Well, the good news is I make.
I make the graphics. So I can put whoever I want in there for you.
[00:37:28] Speaker A: You can put whatever you want on the record, though. I'm going Brown's defense.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: All right, well, you're. You're a complete doucher because I, I.
[00:37:36] Speaker A: Said I was going to wreck everything.
[00:37:38] Speaker B: That's dumb.
He. In case anyone's wondering, he had. He told me before the show. Quinshon Judkins, that's who he Was going with.
[00:37:48] Speaker A: A good day.
[00:37:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:50] Speaker A: And that's fine. I don't care. But the, the real dog of the week is that whole defensive.
[00:37:53] Speaker B: The only time we break ranks like this is when we nominate Browns fans or coaches. That's the only time I'm going to go Grant Delpit that interception and then just given Jordan Love a hip check at the end of the run.
I mean, that was, that was the turning point in the game. I mean, obviously they were coming back. Yeah. He said, I'm going to, I'm going to win it right here for you guys. So, Kenny, final thoughts this week.
[00:38:22] Speaker A: My final thought is just 13.
That number, it's bad number. It's unlucky. The Browns got lucky today.
[00:38:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:33] Speaker A: Thirteen is not good enough. Week in and week out in the NFL. Something has to change. I don't know if it's quarterback, I don't know if it's play calling. I don't know if it's, you know, they gotta eat something different for breakfast each week, but something has to change. 13's not good enough and they gotta do better. 13's my final thought.
[00:38:52] Speaker B: Oh, it was Grant Delpitz birthday today too. Nice.
[00:38:54] Speaker A: Oh, congrats to you. Good.
[00:38:56] Speaker B: Thanks for being born now. And just to add to your 13 talk there, the Browns before this game, the previous eight games, the Browns offense averaged 13.2 points per game. Think about. I know it's fun to think about the win today, but think about this. That average went down.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: Went down.
[00:39:13] Speaker B: It went down. This depreciation offense was so. Yeah, just, just something to think about.
And then my final thought here, Jim Schwartz for president.
[00:39:24] Speaker A: I get behind that.
[00:39:25] Speaker B: Yeah. This dude, he's the. Look, I. If they told me tomorrow that they were promoting Jim Schwartz to the head coach, I would be so excited.
[00:39:35] Speaker A: I mean, I, I've about had it with all the people that have been Kevin Stefanski defenders this whole time. They were like, you guys, if you just give Kevin Stefanski a chance, this offense is good. His offense works.
When? Where? With who? The only guys that worked with was Baker and Chubb. And I think we've learned it's because Nick Chubb. Well, we knew Nick Chubb was a generational talent prior to getting hurt, and Baker turns out was actually a pretty good quarterback.
[00:39:59] Speaker B: So otherwise those guys won. In spite of otherwise, the Kevin Stefanski.
[00:40:04] Speaker A: Offense, the offensive guru, the quarterback whisperer has never worked here under anyone ever.
[00:40:09] Speaker B: No, no, yeah, I'm, I'm, I agree with you.
Yeah. So Jim Schwartz defense has been phenomenal Though I thought it couldn't get any better. And they just keep getting better. This year I'm, I'm officially starting the Gym Schwartz for head coach campaign.
[00:40:24] Speaker A: Can we put that in the shop? Can we get two shirts? Can we get Jim Schwartz for head coach and Jim Schwartz for president?
[00:40:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm in.
I mean, I'll get. I'll make those. I make the shirt, so I'll make.
[00:40:33] Speaker A: I'd like to order that this week.
[00:40:35] Speaker B: Yeah, well, we've got a lot of. We.
I'll make this announcement, too. We actually picked up six brownsbackers groups that named us as their official the official podcast of their chapters this week.
And that's significant because you might not get a T shirt because I got to order a bunch of flags.
But the, the six that we added this week, give me just one second.
[00:41:00] Speaker A: Are the.
[00:41:05] Speaker B: Fox Valley Browns backers, Philadelphia Brownsbackers, Tri Valley Browns backers, Muni Lot Browns backers, Bowling Green Browns backers, and the Seattle Browns backers.
So they'll be added to.
[00:41:16] Speaker A: And I'll say it again, we've been hanging out, interviewing, talking to brownsbackers every week since way before it was cool.
[00:41:22] Speaker B: We're going to keep doing it.
[00:41:23] Speaker A: We're going to keep doing it because we love the Browns backers.
[00:41:25] Speaker B: Hell, yes. So Browns backers keep doing what you do so we can keep doing what we do.
[00:41:29] Speaker A: We are spreading like wildfire on a river Like a burning river.
[00:41:34] Speaker B: Like the burning river Sportscat.
And let me remind everybody once again to call the burning River Sportscast Hot take hotline.
[00:41:40] Speaker A: Hotline Take hotline.
[00:41:41] Speaker B: Leave your hot takes on the hot take hotline. Remember, we want hot takes. We want hot takes.

[00:42:02] Speaker B: 81.
[00:42:03] Speaker A: He forgot our stick. Yeah.
[00:42:05] Speaker B: And be sure to check out our gear.
[00:42:06] Speaker A: WWE every time you see me.
[00:42:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Www.thetabitmedia.com backslash shop where you're gonna have Jim Schwartz for president and Jim Schwartz for head coach gear soon. So that'll do it for us. Kenny, what can we expect this week?
[00:42:20] Speaker A: What can we expect this week?
So we will have our normal show again. Programming notes will likely be out Friday instead of Thursday this week because my good pal Red Hot Ronnie James here, as you can see, he's in a hotel room about a thousand miles away from here. So will be a little over here and take a seat on the production this week. But we will Preview the Week 4 game against the Lions and maybe, maybe we got a shot in this one. Maybe, I don't know, we'll see another brownsbackers interview, Southeast Michigan Browns, packers and of course all the other things that you listen to the Burning Sports cast for. You know, the same takes over and over and over and over again.
[00:42:57] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:42:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:58] Speaker B: That's why I listen that and I love to hear myself talking.

[00:43:39] Speaker A: Kick you in the gym shorts, Jim Shorts. Holy Schmidt. They kicked me in the gym shorts.
[00:43:46] Speaker B: That's what I should have named the show. I didn't.
I didn't. That sounds like part of the problem.
[00:43:52] Speaker A: Don't just be a part of the problem, b the whole damn problem.
[00:43:55] Speaker B: And only you can prevent river fires.
[00:44:01] Speaker A: Burning rivers sa.
