It's time. Time for the Burning river sports cast. The rosters are set. Training camp has concluded. The preseason is over. All that's left now is to put up or shut up, as the 2024 season has officially arrived from the shores of Lake Erie on a beautiful Sunday afternoon featuring a showdown of epic proportions. In a week one matchup. Browns Cowboys. The talk is over. Will Browns build off the momentum of last year's improbable playoff run? Will Jim shorts be able to slow down Dak Prescott and CD Lamb? And can the Browns leverage their weapons in a potential shootout with America's team? We should have a pretty good idea. Sunday night, after a consequential litmus test to see whether the Browns are contenders or pretenders. The field is ready. The Browns are ready. Them boys are ready. Tom Brady is ready.
Are you? We'll break it all down for you. Next on the Burning river sportscast.
[00:02:17] Speaker B: No kidding. In the background, this cow mounts another cow and just starts going to town.
[00:02:22] Speaker A: Did you see that?
Ronnie has miles Garrett as his player to watch this week. He mailed it in. As he mails in everything.
I mean, you can't go to the munilot and not drink from 07:00 a.m. to noon.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. You have to.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: It's like, that's why I don't do it anymore. My body can't do it.
Any particular challenges that you're a little wary of?
[00:02:47] Speaker C: Let's see. Deshawn Watson.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: Dustin Hopkins, game winning field goal.
[00:02:57] Speaker A: This thing is gonna be litanous.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: Like, hot cider. Or is this any cider?
[00:03:01] Speaker A: I love it all. I mean, like, I'll drink, like, a gallon of it in a sitting and then shit for three straight days.
Do you remember Sinbad playing a genie?
[00:03:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:11] Speaker A: In a comedy called, like, shazam or Kazam.
[00:03:13] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:13] Speaker A: We were little.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:14] Speaker A: Well, that never happened.
[00:03:16] Speaker B: Huh?
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Never happened. He never was in a movie called Kazam. Shazam was never a genie. Didn't happen. But, like, you vividly remember it, don't you?
[00:03:24] Speaker B: Was it a television show?
[00:03:25] Speaker A: It was not. Didn't exist.
[00:03:27] Speaker B: Are you sure was it a cartoon?
[00:03:29] Speaker A: This is the Mandela effect.
I googled this girl to the nth degree. Cause I was like, who is this, like, kind of hot, weird looking chick and the. Ooh, excuse me.
[00:03:42] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, let it out.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: That was embarrassing. And then that's why I'm not on the real radio.
[00:03:48] Speaker B: And you bite into it, and it's all kind of soft and mushy.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: Welcome into the burning river sports cast, presented by the fine folks at tap in media. I'm Kenny Thunder. The elephant not in the room today is red hot Ronnie jambs. That's right. Summer in at tap in media approved his PTO for week one of the NFL season. Alas, I do have the pleasure, nay, the privilege, of being joined here today by the man who never needed a guardian cap, given the density of his natural skull, our very own bone man bone. Obviously, you're a halfway married middle aged man.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: But have you lived in an alternate reality and never met your wife and had to marry one random celebrity? Any celebrity in the world? Who is it? And why would it be Avril Lavigne?
[00:04:31] Speaker B: You're just naming her for me? All right, we have a long history, or I have a long history of you and Avril of a crush on Avril. Yeah, it goes back a while, which you're well aware of. You'll randomly send me Avril clips or pictures like, she's never aged.
[00:04:46] Speaker A: She doesn't age. She's aged in, like, a fine wine. Avril Lavigne.
[00:04:50] Speaker B: Punk rock lives on.
[00:04:52] Speaker A: He was a skater boy. She says to you later, boy. As always, if you're looking for the dopest dope you ever heard on a podcast as the unofficial podcast of Cleveland Brown's backers everywhere, you can find our podcast, wherever you get your podcasts.

So shut off the AC and turn up the heat because without red outright jams in the house, it's freezing in this bitch. We'll do what we can in his stead and we'll get started with the burning river news story of the week.
Alright, week one of the NFL season is upon us. And so naturally there's news.
The NFL has a two night preview set up on Thursday night. We have the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship rematch from last year. But we're dealt a treat this year on Friday where we have a second game. Unfortunately, this game is on Peacock only, so.
[00:06:48] Speaker B: Oh, that's one of those little annoyed.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: About that because I don't know how I'm gonna do you have it take that in? I don't. Peacock's like the one streaming service I don't have. And I just like, I have so many others. I'm like, am I seriously gonna have to get Peacock two?
[00:07:01] Speaker B: So just add one more, man.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: Anyways, the Peacock game is the Green Bay packers and the Philadelphia Eagles. And what's special about this game is that this game is in Brazil.
[00:07:14] Speaker B: That is special.
[00:07:15] Speaker A: Sao Paulo, and this has been getting some decent run. This was, there was, there was news earlier in the year, honestly, that the Browns might have been levied for this matchup, but ultimately we were not picked. It is Green Bay Philadelphia. But as teams are gearing up for this face off in Brazil, many players have expressed safety concerns.
Since this is the first ever game in South America, it seems that both teams have met with the league's security team, which has given them a list of do's and don'ts while they're in Sao Paulo.
Green Bay cornerback Eric Stokes said leaving the hotel is definitely not advised when asked his opinion. Playing in Brazil, Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith said no comment.
Eagles cornerback Darius lay says flat out, I do not want to go to Brazil. And you want to know why? I'm here to tell you why. They already told us not to leave the hotel. They told us we can't do too much because the crime rate is crazy. And I'm like, NFL, why do you want to see us somewhere where the crime rate is this high? I told my family, do not come down there, AJ Brown added. I'm just going down there, win a football game and come back home. That's the best way I can put it. Things that we would normally do there, even as simple as walking down the street with your phone in your hand and stuff like that. It's crazy.
So, begs to ask a couple of questions. I mean, is this, you know, overblown or these guys freaking out over nothing? It's obviously, again, new precedent for the NFL to be in South America.
If you look at crime statistics, it's true. If you look during the 2014 World cup, there were 580 people killed in Rio. Brazil's murder rate is over four times higher than that of the United States. And crime after the Olympic Games also spiked.
So clearly, there's some concerns there.
But that being said, if you break the numbers out a little bit, there's a site that's a popular survey site that assesses crime indexes, called numbeo. And they basically were able to do city by city comparisons of different levels of crime and things. So if you look at this breakdown, it's actually like, if you look at Sao Paulo versus Philadelphia, the crime rates really are not that far off. If you look at the 13 or so metrics that they assessed here, there's.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: There's a lot of them here. Worries, home broken and things stolen.
Worries being insulted. Worries, attack, worries. Things from cars stolen.
[00:10:08] Speaker A: Even just the initial question is just level of crime. So Sao Paulo gets an 83rd percentile, very high mark. But Philadelphia, not to be outdone, is falling over the 78.59. So when you think about just overall level of crime, there's high and very high. But those numbers less than five, six points there, right?
In fact, in Sao Paulo, it seems like the discriminatory factor is actually on the low end. So when you think about physical attacks because of skin color, ethnic origin, gender or religion, they only score in the 28th percentile versus Philadelphia at the 46th percentile. So, all told, these crime rates, if you look at the indexes here, are relatively similar. And even if you look at London versus Sao Paulo, if you look, you got to break down the numbers. Level of crime. London scores in the 64th percentile. Again, Sao Paulo, 83rd.
[00:11:07] Speaker B: But again, they've played in London the last few years, haven't they?
[00:11:10] Speaker A: I figured the NFL has had a love affair with London for a long time. They love going to play at Wembley. They love the phone booths and the british food and all the stuff that they get photo ops for players to do.
But again, just kind of comparing the cities that we've gone to or that even we play in, let's not forget Chauncey Gardner Johnson, who had comments about the wildfires in Brazil and safety concerns had his car stolen after a playoff win against the Giants in Philadelphia.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: Wow. Very nice.
[00:11:44] Speaker A: And again, London is another renowned hotspot for crime, yet the NFL continues to host international games there on a yearly basis.
So again, the data breaks out to where these cities are relatively similar. I think the main difference that you really get between a London and a Philly in Sao Paulo is just the wealth gap.
[00:12:06] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:12:07] Speaker A: The brazilian currency, I think it's called the real is about eighteen cents to the dollar in us dollars. So I think the bigger concern is not so much like there's rampant crime, but if you have NFL players, millionaires walking around and these guys, let's face it, they look like millionaires, right?
[00:12:26] Speaker B: Yeah. They're gonna be targets.
[00:12:27] Speaker A: Chains, they got tattoos, they're wearing nice.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: Clothes, they know they're in town probably.
[00:12:31] Speaker A: Renting nice cars while they're there or they're traveling with an entourage. So they stick out like a sore thumb, which makes them a target, maybe more so than in other countries.
But all that to say, the city of Sao Paulo has heard the concerns and is tightening security. Head of their first NFL game, the brazilian state said that they would delegate specialized civil and military police battalions to reinforce security during the game and place officers on streets, trains, subway stations, hotels, tourist attractions, including sweeps at the airport, hotels, training sites in the stadium. So it looks like they're at least aware that the concerns are out there.
And I guess just for the safety of everybody involved, we hope this goes off without a hitch. But it's one of those things where it's like if something bad does happen, the NFL looks really bad coming out of this, that these guys had these concerns coming in. And it's not like you didn't know that this place had its warts.
But again, are they really any worse than the average american city in terms of crime rates? It's kind of debatable. So shoot, what's said Ricky Parasol was just mugged and shot walking down the streets of San Francisco. So, yeah.
[00:13:58] Speaker B: Who is that? San Francisco? Yeah, that rookie or whatever.
[00:14:00] Speaker A: Yeah, rookie rider seaver. I mean, he's going to miss the first four weeks through the chest just on the street walking around down there. So yeah, I would say like it seems like maybe some of the hype and the concern is overblown a tad. But again, we, fingers crossed, hope nothing bad happens because that would be a really bad look for the NFL.
[00:14:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:20] Speaker A: And for the safety of everyone involved.
[00:14:21] Speaker B: The players are down there to play a football game. They're not, like, going to an all inclusive resort. I mean, I'm sure they're staying at a nice place, but it just makes me think of, like, when you do go out of the country, you're usually told, like, stay on the resort, don't travel too far off, you know, the beaten path.
[00:14:35] Speaker A: And that's true. I feel like it's the same Mexico or the Caribbean. Sheriff's advice, like, you know, hey, do the. Do the things you're there to do.
[00:14:42] Speaker B: And I'm sure they're already there. Are they already there?
[00:14:46] Speaker A: I think they were. They were traveling on Wednesday.
[00:14:47] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: For the game Friday. So. So, yeah, they'll be en route shortly, but, yeah, I don't know. It just. It's one of those wrinkles that comes with trying to grow the game. It sounds like there's a really large contingent of Philadelphia fans in this area of Brazil. Brazil in general.
I know there's some issues, too, with, like, the colors, because there's, like, I don't either rival street gangs or rivalries between soccer teams that get super bloody and wild out there that wear green.
[00:15:21] Speaker B: Okay, so, like, both teams have green?
[00:15:24] Speaker A: Both teams have green, yeah. So I think Philadelphia is wearing their black on white combo, but Green Bay doesn't really have any choice but to wear green, so.
But they kind of said, like, you won't necessarily get beat up for wearing, like, a Green Bay jersey, but, like, you definitely wouldn't get beat up if you were in a cowboys jersey. Sure.
Take your chance.
[00:15:48] Speaker B: Yeah, maybe. Maybe different teams would have been appropriate.
[00:15:51] Speaker A: But all that to say good luck to everybody involved, and hopefully. Hopefully nothing bad happens, because if it does, they probably playing any games in Brazil anytime soon?
[00:16:04] Speaker B: Yeah, might be one and done.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Might be one and done.
On that quick note, a couple of quick notes, personal notes on the program.
One, I have to debase myself here. Not to base myself, but I have to make an apology to red hot Ronnie James.
The red hot Ronnie James, the red hot Ronnie Jams. I was wrong on last week's show, and on this show, we like to own up to our mistakes.
Not too proud to be accountable for the things that I've said when talking about Miami and their record in the cold.
I went back and misremembered that they're, like, zero 110 in their last games below 40 degrees.
[00:16:52] Speaker B: Oh, really?
[00:16:53] Speaker A: Two is, like, zero three in his career.
They're just. Their record in cold weather games is abysmal. And he was right. I was wrong. So I'm here to just laid out there that I had a bad take. I had a bad take. And I own that.
So my apologies to Red hot Rodney James, who's not here today.
[00:17:13] Speaker B: Man, he's gonna love hearing this. And it's recorded for everybody to hear.
[00:17:16] Speaker A: It's recorded forever. Recorded forever on the burning river sportscast.
And then also more somber note. I just wanted to take a moment to recognize Jim Donovan. The news Jim Donovan broke last week shortly after our show. So we didn't get a chance to touch on Jim Donovan stepping down this season, stepping out of this season as the Browns MCU and radio host. Play by play guy.
You know, it's one of those things where when you heard the news, obviously, I think all of our minds went, and then Hertz went out to Jim and his family, just knowing how difficult the situation must be at this point for him.
But just nobody better in the business. When you turn on the radio and you hear Jim Donovan's voice, it's, you know, it's football season, you know, it's brown season. There will never be another like him.
I'm getting teary eyed right now just thinking about just the last 20 years of radio, how fortunate we were to have Jim Donovan here in Cleveland.
And just sad, you know, it's like you get older and you have family members and friends that are personally affected by awful disease like this. Just brings it home, makes it really real. You think these guys are going to just do their job forever because they're so good at it. And Jim's one of the best. So it's just sad. Sad for him. Sad to see him go. At least he kind of got to go out on a good note with the Browns in the playoffs last year, you know, going to the playoffs. So we'll always remember those calls. But just wanted to say that about Jimmy Dheendev.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:19:00] Speaker A: All right, that'll bring us to the Nick Chubb, a football giveaway for the second offseason in a row. We are giving away some autographed Browns and memorabilia this year. Nick Chubb autographed football. This one right here on our desk. The winner will be chosen from our YouTube subscribers. There are other ways you can earn bonus entries. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Yeah, give yourself a give yourself a chance.

[00:20:08] Speaker B: We want hot takes.

[00:20:10] Speaker B: We want hot takes.
[00:20:11] Speaker A: 3302-2780-8033-0227-8080-3302-2780-8 call now. Operators are not standing.
[00:20:22] Speaker B: There's nobody there. But make a call.
[00:20:24] Speaker A: Make the call. We want to hear from you and that will bring us to the week one preview brought to you by true fantravel football's back.
Football's back.
[00:20:52] Speaker B: I'm so excited. I can't wait for Thursday night, you know, Thursday night's game, I guess.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Sam, I am just super excited for this. I can't think of an NFL season where I've been more excited. It feels like this off season was so long it took forever.
[00:21:08] Speaker B: Time slowed down.
[00:21:09] Speaker A: Thank goodness. Culture Bull came back like a week and a half ago, so we've at least had that. But this week we have the Dallas Cowboys.
So real quick here, we do have some just Cliff notes here on the opposition.
In terms of the Cowboys as a whole. We've got a head coach without a contract, a perennial All Pro quarterback without a contract, CD Lamb, who hasn't practiced much due to contract dispute and is in fact on the reserve exempt list, granted a special two game exemption, which we don't know whether that means he'll play or not play. Might not play, might play, might not play. Obviously, it would be huge if he does not play.
You look at their offensive line, they got a couple of really good veteran guards, but they're starting a rookie at left tackle, a rookie at center, and they have a right tackle coming off of an injury, washed up running back room led by Zeke, a couple other journeymen. Dalvin Cook's on the roster but technically still on the practice squad, so he's another one that could be activated before Sunday, but as of right now is not on the active roster. Across the defense, Trayvon Diggs and Micah Parsons, your playmakers there, they bolstered that linebacker room with Eric Kendricks in the offseason, who's a nice addition but not necessarily a showstopper. And then Aubrey and anger round out in otherwise solid special teams room. So given that, we'll jump right into just the matchups that matter, starting with Miles Garrett versus Tyler Guyton. Tyler Guyton as the left tackle.
Pretty much as soon as he was drafted, there was talk about, you know, his welcome to the NFL moment being week one versus Miles Garrett. So, yeah, in the first start of his career, that's an unfortunate assignment.
[00:23:03] Speaker B: Let's get a highlight tape going for Miles.
[00:23:06] Speaker A: We've also seen, yeah, for sure, getting that defensive player of the year again.
We've also seen Garrett, though, in this Jim Schwartz offense, in this Jim Schwartz front move quite a bit. So it's not out of their own possibility that he may face some matchups against Terrence Steele, who had a down year last year coming off an injury at the end of last season.
And Miles Garrett is a fully healthy beast coming into the season. So I think the question is not if Miles will get home, but how many times could be a multi sack day like a three, four sack day for miles if things go our way?
Not to mention, Dak Prescott, for all the accolades, continues to be mostly overrated in terms of not accomplishing much.
He puts up big numbers every year, but this team has just been an absolute disappointment, really, since 95.
[00:24:07] Speaker B: They're not winning the big game.
[00:24:11] Speaker A: So, yeah, I don't know. Do you have any thoughts on Miles Garrett versus the rookie there?
[00:24:15] Speaker B: I'm excited. I mean, the first time he gets a sack or pressure or whatever, the stadium's going to go nuts. I mean, because there's already high expectations for our defense. So Miles getting to the quarterback, going against a rookie left tackle, I mean.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: You almost couldn't hope for any better matchup, right, for Miles in week one than to play a guy that's never taken a snap in the NFL.
[00:24:35] Speaker B: Yeah, of course. And not to mention the other pressures they're going to be bringing around the edge. So we got multiple guys that can do it.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: You know, that's the thing, man, that defensive front was, I mean, it's like, it's like Zidarius Smith is on this team. It's like no one even cares because Miles Garrett, but, like, miles is sure going to draw double teams. They're going to have to. I mean, Miles got like his triple teamed at times because he's so dominant and guys like Zidarius are going to find holes and you're going to be able to get home and not to mention the guys you have even in the middle there, Mohurst and those guys.
I mean, that is, that is a mean defensive front.
But yeah, Miles should wreck some havoc, I think. Sunday afternoon come 430.
[00:25:14] Speaker B: It's gonna be loud. Stadiums gonna be loud.
[00:25:16] Speaker A: Yeah. I kinda wish I was going to the game just to be part of the game atmosphere.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: I mean, week, week one versus the Cowboys. Man, those, those tickets gotta be pricey secondhand there.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: And, you know, like the weather actually is gonna break a little bit. It's been, it's been hot here in Ohio for the last few weeks, but this weekend's forecast is calling for temperatures in the sixties.
[00:25:37] Speaker B: Yeah, Saturday's like a high of 61 or something. Wild.
[00:25:40] Speaker A: Gonna be beautiful. It's gonna be sunny and 65. Beautiful football weather. That stadium is gonna be packed just absolutely a shit show inside of that place.
[00:25:53] Speaker B: I'm coming. I'm excited. It's a 04:00 start. I have a wedding on Saturday, so I'll be preparing.
[00:25:59] Speaker A: What time's the wedding.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: On Saturday?
[00:26:03] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, it's Saturday.
[00:26:05] Speaker B: So going into. Exactly. Cause we're gonna be up in Cleveland, you know, in the morning and then driving home. But just recovery time, you know, get ready for Browns game.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, that's, that's critical. You need that. The few extra hours there. Not have to wake up and get moving with your life.
Oh, open bar for this thing?
[00:26:22] Speaker B: I believe so, yeah.
[00:26:24] Speaker A: Nice.
It's just coming up to like, the end of wedding season here. So that'll be again, the weather's supposed to be perfect for that sort of thing this weekend, so.
Excuse me. All right, moving on to Micah Parsons versus some formulation of our line. Who's it gonna be, Jack Will or Jed Wills? Jack Conklin? Dewan Jones.
Jed Wills did practice this week, so it's the first time he's practiced. And Kevin Stefanski has said it's possible he could play, but was non committal at whether or not Wills will start a left tackle if he's healthy. The word on the street for last week has been that Jack Conklin would start at left tackle if Wills is unable to go. Conklin, of course, the right tackle, who played left tackle in college, but has played right tackle primarily in his NFL career.
So that could be interesting just because you have a guy that's out of position or you have a guy that hasn't played a whole lot. And depending on whether Jet or Jack plays, you may end up with the Juan Jones at right tackle. So I think we were all impressed with the wand last year in terms of just for a big guy, his, his size, being able to move and block and do everything that was asked of him. But he's also coming off an injury. So, you know, this game between Miles Garrett, Micah Parsons really has two front runners for defensive player of the year already in week one, just on opposing sides of the field, dude, the dominant defender, you look across that, that defensive front there, they've DeMarcus Lawrence, who's 32 best days probably behind him, but they do have a number of 330 pound defensive tackles. They're just ready to fill up that, that nose tackle front.
But, yeah, I think the question is, and we just don't know. Probably, we won't know until maybe game time is who's going to play and where. So the question is, will the Browns offensive line be able to hold their own, or does Parsons have an outlook like miles on Sunday?
[00:28:34] Speaker B: I imagine they got a plan for Parsons. I'm hoping so. From what I've heard this week, day one, Jones has looked really good at right tackle and Conklin has looked good at left. So, you know, they go against some real competition here. What's going to happen? So real test come Sunday, but I would expect Parsons to get a sack or it's almost, you know, like he's.
[00:28:57] Speaker A: Going to be in the backfield somewhere, some way, somehow in just first game.
[00:29:01] Speaker B: Of the season, you know, offenses tend to be a little, I don't know, vanilla or just out of practice, they.
[00:29:06] Speaker A: Haven'T played right, and the defenses seem.
[00:29:08] Speaker B: To be able to just, you know, start lighting things up.
[00:29:10] Speaker A: So, yeah, I mean, you can definitely play faster and looser on defense early in the season just cause. Yeah, honestly, the preseason doesn't exist anymore. Right. So offenses that have timing components and complex, you know, different, different schemes that they're trying to run aren't always super sharp for the first few weeks of the season.
And Micah's a beast, man.
There's not, this was kind of a disappointing offseason, I think, for Cowboys fans, where they were expecting a lot of moves to be made in the free agency and they made next to none and instead chose to just use the draft to kind of try and backfill this team looks worse on paper than it did last year. But micah, Micah Parsons is one of those guys that is, is going to be a problem for teams all year long, regardless of who they play.
Yeah, I guess this will be the first test for our offensive line coach, Andy Dickerson. I guess we'll see what kind of schemes they can draw up to keep him out of the shawn's face.
[00:30:13] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. How much help are our backs going to be helping? Are they going to be chipping on them? You know, what are they going to.
[00:30:18] Speaker A: Be doing a really good look at, you know, pass pro and what, what that max protect looks like right out the gate because he's a player, man.
And then Deshaun Watson versus this Cowboys defense. So Cowboys d ranked high last year, fifth, and total defense ranked fifth against the pass as well. So another name lurking out there, malik hooker, the old vet from Ohio State.
They do have, you know, maybe some, some opportunities for the Browns in the red zone and on third downs, where last year they were ranked 19th in red zone defense and 14th on third down.
So, you know, given the wrinkles, Kevin stupidity likes to play with and we know he likes to run his trick plays and things, we'll see what they can come up with. But across the board, like this defense, outside of Micah Parsons, outside of Malik Hooker, it's not like they got a bunch of guys out there that are really good. Deron Bland, who we'll talk about in the injury report real quick, but is another all pro, but he's out for a few weeks. He's in the injured reserve. So I would think that this offense, led by DeShawn, should line up rather well.
Big question is whether or not DeShawn is healthy. According to Jeff Howard, the athletic this week they said that. He said that. That sounds like things are exactly where Cleveland was hoping they would be. Quarterback Deshaun Watson is physically on pace where the Browns expected him to be following the displaced shoulder fracture. The question, though, is where his performance will be this season. It's been four years since Watson was viewed among the league's top quarterbacks, and the offense, you know, sputtered a bit this summer. So, you know, what's this offense going to do? Can Watson keep the Browns in third manageable or better situations? Can we keep the ball moving and, you know, come up with opportunities in the red zone?
Or does does look like the guy that's been throwing the ball to the wrong team and fumbling balls in the backfield and making poor decisions for the last couple of years?
[00:32:32] Speaker B: I'm just hoping Stefanski can do some wonders with them because it seems like he can do that with any other quarterback except DeShawn so far.
It's just like he's done it with so many different guys and has made so many different quarterbacks look good or he's protected them in a certain way, maybe besides DTR against the Ravens last year, but that was a crazy situation.
[00:32:53] Speaker A: Deshaun's easily the most talented.
[00:32:56] Speaker B: Oh, without a doubt he's ever had.
[00:32:57] Speaker A: The chance to work.
[00:32:57] Speaker B: Yeah. He hasn't shined and he can't.
[00:33:01] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, to this point has been nothing but a disappointment. I mean, this, this year is so critical for Deshaw because, because if he gets back to form, you go, okay, he's only 28 and he could be the quarterback here for the next 510 years. Perfect.
If he looks bad again, this trade is going to go down in NFL history is one of the worst maybe ever.
[00:33:25] Speaker B: Maybe. Yeah. The worst ever. Especially just with the situation around the trade and the accusations and just what.
[00:33:32] Speaker A: They gave up to get him to. I mean, we talk about the money a lot because that's huge and it was unprecedented at the time. But think about the draft picks that you lost and the opportunity for this team to get better around the quarterback.
[00:33:45] Speaker B: Position and who those draft picks turned into for Houston.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: Right. I mean, that you don't have. So, and Houston, Houston's, Houston's got the Baker Mayfield thing where, like, these guys that they've drafted are coming up now and making you look bad because they've drafted some players and that team is going to be good for the next decade.
So, yeah, I look, I think as someone who was not overly excited when Deshawn landed here and someone who has watched Deshawn not be the quarterback that we saw in Houston for his entirety of his tenure here in Cleveland, optimistic, but skeptical. Yeah, I mean, I'm hoping for the best, but, I mean, man, I was just watching some of these plays again from, like, last season, and granted, he'd only played in a few games, but, I mean, there were some mistakes that this guy made that were, like, Brandon Whedon bad. I mean, there was, there was a one where he was being chased in the backfield and just threw the ball underhanded to nobody.
And I'm like, that's not, that's not a decision an NFL quarterback makes.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:35:01] Speaker A: And that's what is so frustrating about it, because this was a guy that was a passing leader in the NFL, and here he is throwing the ball to nobody or throwing the ball to guys in the wrong jersey. It doesn't make any sense.
[00:35:15] Speaker B: The optimism. Skepticism. It's like, you, I believe his official record last year was five and one. Right. Like, he won game, but he, he didn't pass it. I feel like the team won.
Exactly. And I feel most people would agree with that. But you still look at the record like, well, I guess Stefanski did something there. Like he worked some type of magic or shorts or Schwartz did on defense because we won some games with him, for sure.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: And again, the frustrating thing is like, he is only 28, you know, it's like if he can get this right, this, this would be the best quarterback you've had since the team rebirthed in 99.
If he can get fixed.
[00:35:56] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, my hope is last year, maybe he never felt right. Maybe from the get go he felt off. Or maybe we. I don't know, we would hear about that if there was an injury or something, but maybe he never felt right because of the time off and this and that and time in a new system and whatever it is, it's like now we have another full year, we.
[00:36:14] Speaker A: Have concern is that it's the Tiger woods effect. You know, it's to the point where. Look, and I know he did it all to himself and he should have made better decisions and we're not going to litigate, sure, all those cases. But, but on a personal note, just putting yourself in anybody's shoes that gets caught doing something wrong when, when up until that point, I mean, you could do no wrong. I mean, he was a face of the NFL. He was beloved.
[00:36:45] Speaker B: Clean record.
[00:36:46] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, like a really good guy. And to have that all come crashing down on you overnight and people, there are people on this planet.
And again, not that it's wrong, but that just don't like him and will never will, just given the circumstances. So I think that's a hard thing to grapple with.
I mean, even we've saw, you know, LeBron struggle at times.
[00:37:11] Speaker B: I was thinking the same thing.
[00:37:13] Speaker A: The villain, you know, it's like, it's not as easy as it sounds for these guys that are top tier athletes to just keep playing through it because so much of these games at this level, whether it's golf, basketball, football, it truly is mental.
[00:37:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:37:28] Speaker A: And, like, if you're not, it's not even that you're not mentally tough. It's just that that has the capacity to break you.
[00:37:34] Speaker B: It's draining mentally.
[00:37:36] Speaker A: I mean, to have to deal with it every day of your life, knowing that there are just people out there that just don't like you, people that are always going to be skeptical of you.
[00:37:44] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:37:44] Speaker A: And, and you go back to it, too, and it's like you're in the moment and you're deshawn and all this stuff's going on, you don't think you're doing anything wrong.
So it's even twice fold. Then when it comes out and they're like, oh, by the way, this guy's been running amok out there, just creating problems.
And so that's my biggest fear, is that, like, it's not even. It's not a talent thing, it's not an athletic thing. It's not a health thing. It's a.
Can you overcome what happened to you?
[00:38:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:17] Speaker A: And I think it's. It's hard for guys to do.
[00:38:22] Speaker B: I think your confidence can be shot. You can lose it 100%. You know, it's not probably, it's not easy to get back. And he may have been there. He may. I think he was there, and maybe he still is. I don't know. I hope that's not the case.
[00:38:34] Speaker A: When you see the guy throw the ball backwards, underhand.
I don't have another explanation for that. Like, there's no, I mean, some of the reads, it was like he was throwing a ball with his eyes closed.
[00:38:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:47] Speaker A: And now he, like, you know, he's a better player than that.
[00:38:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:38:50] Speaker A: I mean, we saw it in college. The dude was. Was a baller, and you saw it, and he used to do, as a.
[00:38:54] Speaker B: Baller, he just needs to watch college film, you know, for the next couple months.
[00:39:00] Speaker A: Just build himself back.
[00:39:01] Speaker B: Yeah, don't watch any NFL film. Just build yourself.
[00:39:05] Speaker A: And definitely don't read any social.
[00:39:06] Speaker B: Look what I used to do.
[00:39:09] Speaker A: Yeah, there were some good moments.
[00:39:11] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:39:12] Speaker A: So I guess the jury's still out there. I think that's like we've been saying it all offseason. Is. Is. What is Deshaun Watson best case scenario? What is Deshaun Watson worst case scenario? The good news is the wait's over, and we're about to find out because it's a new year. It's a new season. The Cowboys are zero and zero.
Coming off another early playoff exit. Coming in again with all the hype being America's team, Jerry Jones, all this garbage. America, you know, the Browns, it's strength on strength here. Just lost one game at home all of last season.
Feels like this season is drag offseason dragged on for the Browns for one reason or another. There wasn't a ton of, like, negative news.
Most of the team is returning at all your critical positions. Feels like you got maybe a little better in the draft.
Obviously, you got the stuff here of late with Mike hall, but he's on the commissioner's exempt list, so we won't even know what that looks like for a while.
One thing that I found interesting is that it came out. They do. Every year around this time, we get the youngest roster in the NFL and the oldest roster in NFL. And for years. For years we've been on the youngest roster side of the NFL. Well, the Browns have officially become the second oldest roster in the NFL.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: Wow. I didn't know that.
[00:40:36] Speaker A: What's interesting is those you start to break this down and it's kind of like the crime statistics, right? It's like you can tell any story you want.
When you look at the average age of these teams, the Browns come in with an average age of 27.64 years.
[00:40:49] Speaker B: Oh, wow.
[00:40:50] Speaker A: So when you look at, like the youngest team in the NFL, it's usually like 26 and a half years.
[00:40:54] Speaker B: Within a point and a half, they're.
[00:40:55] Speaker A: Within like a, you know, and it's guys like Joel Batonio, Rodney McCloud that are in their thirties that kind of skew that one way or the other, because honestly, the Browns core and they are getting older. I mean, guys like Miles and Denzel and Nick Chubb are getting older, but they're still in their late twenties and they have a lot of young talent around them. So I don't know. This is super cause for concern. I just thought it was interesting because it's one of those stories that comes out and it's like, oh, this is a veteran laden team here in Cleveland. I'm like, last year we were the second youngest team in the NFL.
[00:41:27] Speaker B: It's just one year.
[00:41:28] Speaker A: What a difference.
[00:41:29] Speaker B: Turnaround.
[00:41:33] Speaker A: Also of note, just going into this season, Shannon Sharp. Hall of Famer Shannon Sharp has predicted that the Cleveland Browns will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game, contingent, of course, on Deshaun Watson being able to give him 85% to 90% of what he wants. Was so big to see. He likes the Browns and the Chiefs, which is cool because we don't get a lot of national network guy. Yeah. Big network guys that really are paying attention to the Browns. Really ever.
[00:42:05] Speaker B: Someone who knows football, you know?
[00:42:06] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, Shannon's guy has been around and obviously done all the different talk shows and stuff now on first take. Now has his own podcast and stuff, so.
But that's a guy that's well connected and well respected and, you know, giving the Browns a shot heading into this thing. So excited to hear that, that. Taking a look at the lines for this weekend. Betting info. Odds makers do have the Browns at home, it's only a two and a half point spread, so it's almost a pick them.
Just given the home favorite, the over under total, said, I saw a couple different ones, 41, 42 and a half for this weekend, so seems like they're expecting points to be scored, which is good.
And that's kind of the overall preview. So from there, let's go ahead and jump right into the injury report. Yeah, I had some news on that today.
I think we have a sound effect here.
All right, injury report here. Injury report time.
Obviously, the Browns missing a number of guys that are on reserve list. Nick Chubb, Naheem Hines, Luke Whippler, Mike hall, whose future this season is in doubt being on the commissioners list.
The only other big IR name that really stood out to me was Duran Bland, who we mentioned just a few minutes ago is an all pro corner. One of those guys that really is a weapon on that Cowboys defense, but he's got something that's going to keep him out several weeks. So I think six to eight weeks they're looking at with him. But he'll be back at some point during the season. Won't be our problem, though.
[00:43:56] Speaker B: Yeah, we ain't got to see him for now.
[00:43:59] Speaker A: You know, you'd assume most of these teams are relatively healthy. Heading into week one, there were a number of guys listed a little bit concerning on the Browns and a couple on the Cowboys side.
David Bell, obviously, with the quad.
You know, most of these guys were limited at practice, so they haven't been ruled out or anything, but just names to keep an eye on because a lot of these guys are.
A lot of defense is critical players. Yeah, I mean, at this point. So David Bell, with the quad limited. Jack Conklin, with a knee limited.
Hicks, limited.
O'Hearst, limited.
Jerry Judy, with a knee, but was a full participant in practice. Quentin Jefferson, the Achilles, was limited. J ok hand, but was a full participant in practice.
Darwin Tomlinson, knee limited. Nathaniel.
Yeah, this is right. Nathaniel Watson, I think so. Quad limited. Jedrick Wills, knee limited. And defensive end, right elbow, full participant. So again, none of these guys have been ruled out. All just kind of bumps and bruises, it looks like. I would expect most everybody here to play, with the exception being we don't know what's going to happen at the tackle spot just yet with Jack Conklin, Jed Wills, but the name I don't see on this list, which is good for the first time probably all camp, is Dewan Jones.
So he should be healthy going into the season if he has to play and then on the cowboy side, let's see, they've got linebacker Clark, defensive end kneeland corner Mukuamu, defensive tackle Smith. All four full participants in practice. Safety Thomas, full participant. And then tight end Stevens as a hamstring did not practice. So that's the latest information on the injury report that we're going to have before the game on Sunday. My guess is probably all of these guys play with the exception of, again, the tackle spot for the Browns. We don't know what they're going to do, so I don't know there's anything to really worry about here. It's just, it's surprising, I think, to see what's here. Eleven or twelve guys that are already on you injured report, which isn't great for the Browns.
All right, so that brings us to this week's player to watch bone. Who do you get this week?
[00:46:32] Speaker B: All right, so I was pretty excited when they brought this guy in, Devin Bush. So last I checked, he's going to be our starting like Sam backer right now alongside Hicks and J. OK.
He was just a stud, just a ball hawk when the Steelers brought him in. Top ten player and he played like, like it his first year.
Next year was playing great, got hurt, ended up with a few other teams. Now he's with the Browns, hopefully reviving his career. So I'm hoping he just has that second win and he just, just brings it, brings it back, gives us another just stud at linebacker playing alongside, you know, two pretty good linebackers, you know, in their own right with J OK and Jordan Hicks.
Yeah. And just, I'm just excited to see him. I'm hoping the best for him and I just want him to play really well. He's my player to watch this week.
[00:47:25] Speaker A: This was probably my favorite offseason acquisition.
I am glad you picked him because it's one of those names that I keep forgetting that we have, right?
[00:47:36] Speaker B: Yeah. Until we're.
[00:47:37] Speaker A: And I'm looking at the roster and I'm like, damn, we got Bush.
So, yeah, I can't agree with you more. I'm super excited to see this guy play has high end potential and the one thing that the Browns have really lacked since coming back in 99, there's a couple of guys, I mean, de Quelle was good.
Miller, Miller, Jamir Miller. Some of these guys in the linebacker room were okay, but we really haven't had a dominant force.
[00:48:10] Speaker B: We've had some guys at the end of their careers kind of come in like this guy used to be William McDonough.
[00:48:18] Speaker A: But it just seems like for whatever reason, been a priority drafting or finding talent in free agency for the Browns.
[00:48:25] Speaker B: I will say aside, J OK is kind of filling, but J OK is.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: Such an anomaly because of the things that he can do.
I guess he's not your prototypical, like linebacker, right? He's not your protipol inside guy because he can cover, he can blitz, he can, he's great tackle.
He's just so versatile that you can use him anywhere on that defense.
And with more and more teams kind of going to a four, two, five look, it kind of feels like that's maybe the prototype of the future is just having two versatile guys inside that can help cover, that are athletic like that.
But you also need guys that can stop the run when necessary. So a guy like Geo Kidd has a nose for the football, obviously just a special talented, but Devin Bush kind of fits more of the look and feel of your prototypical.
[00:49:24] Speaker B: He's like 61235 or something, just solid.
[00:49:28] Speaker A: Just a beast of a man and maybe 511.
[00:49:31] Speaker B: I might be wrong on that. He might be a little shorter.
[00:49:34] Speaker A: I'm just, I'm excited he's here. I mean, he was one of those names when he played with the Steelers. Like, you knew who he was just because he wrecked your.
[00:49:41] Speaker B: It was like one of those guys. You're like, gosh, they drafted another one. Like, why don't the Browns draft a stud linebacker and then, you know, Baltimore and Pittsburgh just do it every year?
[00:49:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, I'm hoping that he's a guy that, that shows up well and is here for a long time.
Ronnie has Miles Garrett as his player to watch this week. He mailed it in. As he mails in everything he says he's feeling a big game coming from miles. He thinks he uses this game to set the tone for the season for return to defensive player of the year talks. And he's playing against another front runner, obviously, in Micah Parsons and he is looking to make a statement.
So I guess we will see who, who carries the day on Sunday.
And for me, I don't have a name in particular, but I think it's my position group to watch. Is this running back room without Nick Chubb for the first few weeks? Somebody's going to have to step up and carry the load. Does Jerome Ford progress from where he was last year? I mean, we saw him make some splashy plays that made his overall statistics look okay for a rookie. But if you kind of look at like yards per carry average, and especially if you take out some of those big plays. I mean, it was pretty dreadful.
This was not a guy that you could sustain a 1213, 1415 play drive with at the end of a game. Game to melt clock.
So does he take that leap? Does he become either heir apparent to Nick Chubb or at least a viable fill in? Does they've resigned now? Dante Foreman. Does Foreman end up being more the bell cow in his offense? I think he showed flashes with his hands that he can catch balls out of the backfield, which really wasn't something that he was known for coming in.
Obviously, a big bodied dude can, can take punishment and hits. So I think he's more of that kind of archetype that you look forward to have those long 12, 13, 14 play drives and also a guy that can grind it and get into the end zone on short yardage situations and red zone opportunities.
And then Pierre strong.
Look, I maintained since they've signed Pierre strong that he needed to get more touches because this guy's electric, he's fast.
I think he can catch balls out of the backfield. He's got just real fluid movement and his balance and his lower body would love to see him become more of a potent player in this offense. But ultimately, at the end of the day, someone has to step up because that running game, as much as we want to pretend like this, Cleveland Brown's offense is going to be some air raid machine. The Kansas City 2.0, like, the strength of this team, is still in its offensive line, relatively. One guys are healthy, still in an offensive line. You have good players there that allow you to run and, and that good running game covers up a lot of warts.
[00:52:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:53] Speaker A: You know, Deshawn doesn't have to be a superstar if you're churning out 125 yards on the ground.
So who's going to be that guy? Or is this thing truly going to be running back by committee? And each guy's gonna get six, seven touches and that's it. I mean, it'd be interesting to see what they go with schematically and who steps up as a player.
[00:53:17] Speaker B: I'm kind of expecting, like, I just feel like it's always like, without Chubb, it's like, this series goes to this guy, this series goes to the next guy, and there's no changeup. And you're often like, why didn't they have Kareem hunt in this situation? Well, it wasn't his series, apparently, and they can't make the switch, so I hope that's not the case, but that's kind of what I'm expecting. Expecting from the running back situation. And we'll see.
[00:53:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I just think. I think it's so important that they have a solid running game. Look, I. As much as the NFL game has changed, you can still win a lot of football games in the regular season with a running game and a great defense, and that takes a lot of the pressure off Deshawn.
[00:53:55] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:53:56] Speaker A: I mean, shoot, go back and run the old Baker Mayfield stuff. Run the ball and run play action passes and get him out, you know, outside the pocket a little bit and let him have the easy reads on one side of the field.
Like, you don't have to overcomplicate things. If that running game is working and we don't know what Nick. We're all hoping Nick Chubb comes back and he's Nick Chubb. Yeah, but it's so important, because if Nick Chubb isn't Nick Chubb or Nick Chubb can't come back until late in the season, you're going to have to manufacture some kind of running game until he gets back. So I think this is as critical as, like, who knows what the shawn's going to be like. I think this is the next most critical step is who is going to lead that backfield until Nick Chubb comes back.
[00:54:43] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. I couldn't agree more.
[00:54:45] Speaker A: And that will take us to the three.
[00:54:48] Speaker B: I'm the heat in your lungs I'm.
[00:54:51] Speaker A: The smoke in the sky I'm the gas in the tank gonna turn it up tank it.
[00:54:56] Speaker C: I'm hot I'm hot to the touch.
[00:54:58] Speaker A: Burning down are you hot? Hot to the touch?
[00:55:01] Speaker B: I'm hot to the touch but enough.
[00:55:03] Speaker A: I'm hot I'm hot like fire all right, hot three. This is our new segment this year where we go through a top three countdown of something each week. This week, in line with the fact that it is week one of the NFL season, we're gonna have a hot three on our favorite tailgate food. So I will start with Ronnie, since he's in Disneyland.
[00:55:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Where the hell is he?
[00:55:34] Speaker A: He was in Disney days. He was dying. He said it was 100 degrees.
[00:55:37] Speaker B: Oh, goodness. Walking around, I was like, I hope.
[00:55:39] Speaker A: You get heat stroke.
[00:55:40] Speaker B: 300 acre park, whatever the hell it is.
[00:55:42] Speaker A: He's like, I was just dying out there, man. I was like, good. That's what you get. So number three, Veroni. He's got buffalo chicken dip. Love that. Buffalo chicken dip.
[00:55:51] Speaker B: Solid choice.
[00:55:52] Speaker A: Number two, chili.
[00:55:54] Speaker B: Oh, messy. I don't know about that.
[00:55:57] Speaker A: And number one, burgers. I will say when we had season tickets, Ryan, I had them at the same time.
That was probably our staple. Was kind of easy to pack, like, a small grill and do burgers. And I would make.
Take a patty and then, like, smash the big blob of cheese in the middle of it.
[00:56:20] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:56:21] Speaker A: Put another patty on top. Stuffed hamburger. Stuffed hamburger top. That was kind of our. That was our tailgate tradition, at least when we were.
[00:56:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:56:29] Speaker A: Had season tickets.
[00:56:30] Speaker B: So it's very versatile.
[00:56:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:56:33] Speaker B: Which makes for.
Yeah, it doesn't get old. You can just keep eating it.
[00:56:37] Speaker A: And, you know, having a grill there is versatile, too, because you can do, like, we did steaks one time. It's like. But it's just. It's like, it's easier to eat a hamburger, you know, when you're drinking like that because, I mean, you can't go to the muni lot and not drink a. From 07:00 a.m. to noon.
[00:56:53] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, you have to.
[00:56:56] Speaker A: It's like, that's why I don't do it anymore. My body can't do it.
[00:57:00] Speaker B: Too much fun. Too much fun to be had.
[00:57:02] Speaker A: Burgers. Burgers are a good choice there. What about you, bone man?
[00:57:06] Speaker B: All right, so Ronnie kind of took the buffalo chicken dip, so I'll probably have that in there, but I have a few other ones. So my number three is going to be like a big pot of, like, or a crock pot. Maybe pre make it of pulled pork or smoked pulled pork or whatever. Throw a little barbecue on it or leave it, you know, leave the smokiness to itself and then add some barbecue on your sandwich when you get there. Whatever you want to do. Maybe some slaw. I don't know.
[00:57:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:29] Speaker B: But also kind of versatile. I feel like, delicious. Easy.
[00:57:32] Speaker A: That's what I was gonna say. It's versatile. And that, like, you can throw it on, like a roll and have a sandwich or, like, you just eat it with a floor.
[00:57:38] Speaker B: Eat it plain.
[00:57:39] Speaker A: Yeah, eat it plain with your hands.
[00:57:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:57:40] Speaker A: You never know in a mini lot.
[00:57:42] Speaker B: Exactly. Maybe share with some folks walking by.
[00:57:45] Speaker A: You know, the port of John.
[00:57:47] Speaker B: Yeah. I'll also do for number two, I'm gonna do buffalo chicken dip because it's just delicious. The wife makes an excellent buffalo chicken dip right in the crock pot. Also easy to keep warm. Bring up eat with either chips or. My new personal favorite is celery sticks. With buffalo chicken dip.
[00:58:05] Speaker A: Celery sticks are a good choice.
[00:58:06] Speaker B: It is so good.
[00:58:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:58:08] Speaker B: With celery sticks.
[00:58:11] Speaker A: Your wife and your mom make a good buffalo chicken.
[00:58:14] Speaker B: I've told my wife this before, but my mom's is my all time favorite. Yeah, she just does it real weird in a pan, and she makes a good chicken. I don't know what it is, but it's never been replicated anywhere I've ever been.
And then number one is just the classic sausage sandwich with onions and peppers that are, like, sauteed down with some mustard. I just. I love that. And I don't get it that often because my wife also doesn't like to eat sausage sandwiches, so we never have them at home, you know? So, you know, tailgating is, like. I just love it.
[00:58:47] Speaker A: It's one of those things. It's a little bit hard. They're a little bit hard to grill. Like, you can get, like, the pre cooked ones. Like, the Johnsonville. Like, those are fine. But, like, to cook your regular sausage, like, you gotta.
[00:58:57] Speaker B: It's raw. The raw ones that are. Yeah, yeah.
[00:59:00] Speaker A: It's real easy to under cook them. And then it's always super. If you so disappointed, bite into a raw sausage. Oh, yeah, a couple minutes.
[00:59:07] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. And you know it right away, too. Cause you kind of taste it. You see it.
[00:59:10] Speaker A: You're like, but a good sausage, there's nothing better.
[00:59:13] Speaker B: Yeah. And those can kind of be, like, you can pre make those, too. Put them in a vat of something, like, in the peppers and stuff or whatever. And they usually. They tend to warm up good.
[00:59:20] Speaker A: And I find that for tailgating, especially if you're on site. Tailgating.
Yeah. Cook them the day before, put them in a little foil pan, and if you have a grill or whatever fire going, throw them on that. Heat them up.
[00:59:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:59:32] Speaker A: Yeah. That's a good choice. I didn't think about that because that was another staple of ours, was the sausage.
[00:59:37] Speaker B: Sausage.
[00:59:37] Speaker A: But I definitely undercooked some of them in the meat.
[00:59:40] Speaker B: I'm still alive.
[00:59:41] Speaker A: You're really drunk, and you're like, yeah, this looks pretty good. Yeah, yeah. Sauce. That's a good choice.
[00:59:47] Speaker B: Yeah. Burger, you can undercook. Sausage is, like, one of those, like, I don't.
[00:59:50] Speaker A: Peppers. Yeah. Do you do regular mustard or what do you.
[00:59:55] Speaker B: I. Any mustard's good. I'll do stadium mustard, yellow mustard, mustard on it. Dijon mustard, stadium mustard.
[01:00:01] Speaker A: Little did. Little bit of ketchup, but I just doused that thing. A stadium mustard.
[01:00:06] Speaker B: I'll do ketchup, I guess, every now and then, but I will go straight mustard on, literally. Ketchup is my favorite kind of grown man move.
[01:00:14] Speaker A: Straight mustard.
[01:00:14] Speaker B: Straight mustard on a sausage sandwich. With onions and peppers is key. If there's no onions and peppers, I feel like I have to have ketchup.
[01:00:22] Speaker A: Yeah, I just had a sausage sandwich at the fair, man.
[01:00:26] Speaker B: I really want a sausage sandwich now.
[01:00:28] Speaker A: You know, they cook them in, like, the red sauce too. They got the peppers and onions going. Oh, God, it was great.
[01:00:33] Speaker B: Fair sausage. That sounds to look delicious. I'm gonna have second dinner when I get home.
[01:00:38] Speaker A: I'll tell you what, eating at the fair, though, is not cheap, dude.
[01:00:42] Speaker B: I know.
[01:00:43] Speaker A: It's so expensive. And, like, my kid's little, like, I don't gotta feed him, really. We fed him, like, scraps of what we were eating. Like, man, someday he's gonna need actual food.
[01:00:51] Speaker B: You get some lurches donuts.
[01:00:53] Speaker A: You know, the line for that was so long.
[01:00:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:00:55] Speaker A: I couldn't do it. But you know what is? I don't know if you. If. I mean, if you're here locally, Dumas meats. I don't know if you've ever been to the donut girl is there. She basically makes a lurches donut.
[01:01:08] Speaker B: Really? Anytime out in the parking lot or. Oh, I didn't know that she was.
[01:01:11] Speaker A: She does every day. They do brown sugar, cinnamon glazed.
[01:01:16] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:01:16] Speaker A: And then she'll have a flavor of the day.
[01:01:17] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:01:18] Speaker A: So it'll be like blueberry glaze, strawberry glaze, peach cobbler. Like buckeye. She does all kinds of. But. But they're essentially lurches. They're little, you know. Little. Yeah, lurches, donuts.
[01:01:27] Speaker B: I have to try that out.
[01:01:28] Speaker A: It's a good substitute. Like, you know, the fair only comes once a year, so you can kind of get that same flavor from locally if you're over there. Nice.
Yeah, I really like her donuts. They're great.
So if you're in the area.
[01:01:41] Speaker B: Yeah. Check out Dumas.
[01:01:42] Speaker A: Check out Dumas. For not only their meats, but they.
[01:01:44] Speaker B: Have buy a cow.
[01:01:45] Speaker A: They also have a burger truck now sitting in there. I don't know if you've been over to see this.
[01:01:49] Speaker B: That's one of the duma boys, I believe runs out.
[01:01:52] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. One of the Duma boys does burger dispatch. And we've had lunch there a couple times now. It's really good. I mean. Cause we go there, we'll go get some steaks and, you know, pork butt or whatever. And then you just come out of the parking lot and they got these food trucks and they got, you know, the girl making donuts and she's got fancy lemonades and teas and things.
[01:02:13] Speaker B: I'm getting off track here a little bit. But I saw a video. He was kind of promoting his food truck, you know, and he's like, these are our cows. You know? This is what ends up being, like, a burger patty, literally, like, the next day, possibly. And no kidding in the background, this cow mounts another cow and just starts going to town.
[01:02:30] Speaker A: Did you see that?
[01:02:31] Speaker B: It was so funny.
And he's just sitting there talking about the burgers and whatnot, and it was, man, I hope this promotes his stuff more, too. But I'm just. It was so funny. I'm sure they left that in there on purpose.
[01:02:45] Speaker A: You know, I think that. I think they cut that, too, and then they put, like, they did a still shot of it later. They were like, you could eat this, like, mounted right up, man.
[01:02:55] Speaker B: It was fantastic.
[01:02:57] Speaker A: Yeah, that was almost like it had to be planned.
Yeah. But anyways, dumas, great meat, God fearing people. Food trucks in the parking lot. You can make a whole afternoon of it. People do. I mean, this place is crazy. Like, yeah, like, I've been in there a number of times. On a Friday afternoon at, like, 02:00 p.m. packed. It's packed.
[01:03:15] Speaker B: Always.
[01:03:16] Speaker A: I mean, you're waiting 2030 deep at the meat counter. I'm like, who are these? What do these people do for a living?
[01:03:23] Speaker B: I get cows from them. I've been ordering cows from, man. I actually need to do that soon. I love it.
[01:03:27] Speaker A: I mean, it's awesome. Some awesome stuff. Anyways, back to the hot three.
Not a paid testimonial, by the way.
[01:03:33] Speaker B: We're still talking food. I feel like.
[01:03:37] Speaker A: Hot three. So, number three, I have. Our families used to get together pretty frequently over, like, the Super bowl when we were little.
And we kind of stole this from your family. Was pepperoni rolls. Like, a little stromboli action? I didn't even make, like, a bunch of pepperoni rolls. You got the sauce. Like, they're just super easy to, like, throw three of them on a plate, like, while you're watching the game, some sauce, and just carry em around with you and go get. You know, they're not, like, super filling. Cause you can cut them into small slices.
[01:04:08] Speaker B: You can eat way too many of them, though.
[01:04:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:04:10] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[01:04:10] Speaker A: I mean, you can go to town on em real easy.
So that's what I have is number three again, good cold, too. Stole those from the bone family. Number two, chili. I know you said that's messy, but I'm a big soup guy.
[01:04:24] Speaker B: Yeah, you are.
[01:04:24] Speaker A: I will eat soup out of my hands. Like, I. And fall, like, you don't, you don't cook chili in the summertime.
You know, people do crock pots of chili and stew and stuff in the fall. And to me it's just one of those staples of fall that you get to chili. And I like my chili hot. I like to throw, like, I don't. When I make a pot of chili, I make it kind of normal to average heat, just a few peppers and things. But like, when I get my bowl, I'm just dousing that thing with Frank's red hot.
[01:04:52] Speaker B: Nice.
[01:04:52] Speaker A: Pour that shit on it.
[01:04:53] Speaker B: You had like sour cream or anything to it or like diced raw onion and cheese. Okay, yeah, cheese.
[01:04:59] Speaker A: I like onion in mine and some green pepper. A little jalapeno action.
But yeah, I just, I mean, chili is just one of my all time favorite foods, periods.
[01:05:08] Speaker B: Maybe I take back that. Cause I'm like getting images of people, like, around a crock pot, like filling up bowls of chili, like eating it with their little hats on at the.
[01:05:14] Speaker A: Football game to be fairly good. It's pretty harder to do in an immunilot.
[01:05:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:05:19] Speaker A: But when it's cold out there, there are people that do bring crock pots into low styrofoam bowls. And you see that in a muni lot. But I'm thinking more like my own tailgate. My house, you know, for a big game, if there's something.
[01:05:30] Speaker B: All the luxuries at home.
[01:05:31] Speaker A: Yeah. Sitting on my couch with my bowl of chili and I got my sour cream, my cheese, my hot sauce and just making it go. And the number one, no debates here, buffalo chicken dips, the greatest.
Just maybe one of the greatest foods of all time.
It is funny because I feel like it didn't always exist.
[01:05:51] Speaker B: It came about when we were kids, didn't it?
[01:05:53] Speaker A: But like, for a long time when we were kids, I'd never had buffalo chicken dip. And then like, all of a sudden blew up when we were, I don't know, eleven. Like, I had it for the first and I was like, this is the best. Like, why have I never eaten this?
[01:06:05] Speaker B: It was like the green bean casserole of our time.
[01:06:08] Speaker A: Everybody had showed up one day and now everybody makes it. And it's hard to almost find a bad buffalo chicken dip. I mean, there are some out there, but I. I mean, just the combination of like, cream cheese and, you know, some people do ranch or not, but hot sauce, ranch packets, chicken and. God, it's so good.
[01:06:27] Speaker B: I have my fridge, actually right now.
[01:06:29] Speaker A: I'm gonna make some for Sunday. Like, that's my. That's my go to, like, if I like my guilty snack, like, I'm not that I need a guilty snack. Like, I eat what I want, but, yeah, but that's my go to, like, when I'm getting ready for a big game, whether it's, you know, playoffs or whatever, like, buffalo chicken dip is happening. So that'll be getting in my belly this weekend, without a doubt.
[01:06:49] Speaker B: And I have buffalo chicken dip in the fridge. Unless Christy ate it.
[01:06:53] Speaker A: Can't beat that.
All right. And so, with football being back, the Browns being back, we can also look forward to our conversations with Cleveland Browns backers being back.
So for those of you that don't know or forgot from last season, we started this conversation, this interview series with Browns backers to bring awareness not only to the groups themselves, because they are all over the country and all over the world, but also wanted to let people know about all the good things they're doing in their communities. So a lot of these groups raise thousands of dollars each year in their local communities, give them to local charities, good causes. They do city cleanup days. They have different outings and events all year long where they're doing raffles and things to, again, help out their local community. And so we wanted to make sure we take time to recognize these individuals. And all the hard work that goes into a lot of these groups are, you know, vary in different levels of organization, and guys and folks that are involved from big to small, but all them matter. And these guys that put these events together are just some incredible individuals that work really, really hard. Some of these groups, again, are small in organization, but house large groups of people. So they're putting these events on weekend, week out for watch parties all across the country, all across the world, and sometimes doing it with just a husband and a wife or a couple of friends that got together, and that's their comedian crew. So good on them. And we're here to share their stories. So for this week, week one, we will follow the Browns right to Dallas with our interview with the Dallas area Browns Backers, powered by Riverside FM.
All right, so first up for this year's interview series with our brownsbackers, our friends, the Brownsbackers. We have the Dallas area Brownsbackers, and we do have. Have their president, Fred on the line with us. Fred, how are you doing today?
[01:09:16] Speaker C: I am excellent. Thank you for asking.
[01:09:19] Speaker A: Awesome. Awesome. Looking forward to this upcoming season.
[01:09:22] Speaker C: Oh, I'm so excited. I mean, after last year making the playoffs, I mean, optimism runs high.
[01:09:29] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, we hear that. So why don't we go ahead and just tell us just a little bit about your chapter.
[01:09:37] Speaker C: Alrighty. Well, the Dallas area Brownsbackers were actually founded in 1980. So the old team, and then in 1999, they were actually named the Dallas area Browns Packers. I hate to say I can't tell you what I. What the name was prior to, because I was still in Cleveland, Ohio then.
We are truly. We are a licensed nonprofit. We are organized. We have a board of directors with a president, five vice presidents, a treasurer, and event coordinator. So we are really well organized. I was very surprised when I joined the organization, how well organized we are. We're truly a social organization talking about giving back to the community.
362 members strong.
[01:10:23] Speaker A: Oh, wow. It's a large group.
[01:10:25] Speaker C: Well, we are based at five different locations because Dallas is extremely spread out.
[01:10:31] Speaker A: Gotcha. So, like, what areas Dallas is, like Arlington, different areas around Dallas. Are they. What areas are they all in?
[01:10:39] Speaker C: Okay, so we have a Dallas location, which is actually just outside of downtown Denton, which is north, pretty much due north of Dallas. Frisco is north east of Dallas Fort Worth, and then Richardson, which is kind of east of Dallas. And we actually were looking to expand to another location out in Rockwall because it's growing leaps and bounds.
[01:11:06] Speaker A: Nice. Well, it's good to hear that the organization continues to grow.
That's awesome. Over 300 members to five different locations. Now, are you in different, like, the viewing locations? Is it all part of the same chain, or are you in different bars and restaurants around different locations?
[01:11:23] Speaker C: We're at Bryan Street Tavern, which is a new location in downtown, the dive bar in Denton, the revel in Frisco flips, patio Grill in Fort Worth, and Fox and Hounds in Richardson. I think it's the only fox and hound left anymore.
[01:11:41] Speaker A: Very nice. Very nice.
So, no, that's great. It sounds like you still have a ton of interest. Like you said, the group continues to grow. You're having to add new locations. Sounds like you have a really big, strong organization. You said you had five vice presidents, so I'm assuming there's just one kind of corresponding then, to each chapter.
[01:12:00] Speaker C: That's right. The vice presidents are all.
[01:12:03] Speaker A: Perfect.
Awesome. Well, can you tell us, obviously, a group that large, you know, are there any kind of, like, community service projects or charities that you guys get involved in down there?
[01:12:15] Speaker C: Yes. Well, each location has their own charity that we raise money for. We raise money for our charities through a halftime raffle where we raffle off Brown's memorabilia.
We'd sell t shirts and we actually sell memberships. And last year in the Dallas area, we raised over $14,000 for these local charities.
[01:12:37] Speaker A: Wow, that's incredible.
[01:12:40] Speaker B: That is incredible.
[01:12:43] Speaker A: No, that's really great.
I think that's one of the things that we talk about here a lot on the show is a lot of folks are familiar, at least with the name Brown's backers, but maybe don't necessarily know all the things that they do. And it just seems like the more and more we talk to each chapter that we've come into contact with, it's just like the impact to your local communities is huge. And you guys are doing this every year. Membership continues to grow.
So that's awesome and super impactful to your local communities.
Now, Fred, you said you were a native Clevelander or you had moved down to Dallas.
[01:13:19] Speaker C: Yeah, I was, actually. I was raised out in Willoughby, and then we moved to Hudson when I was in grade school. So I spent most my life in Hudson, Ohio.
[01:13:28] Speaker B: And actually I work in Hudson.
[01:13:31] Speaker C: Do you? All right.
I can tell you it's changed a lot since the eighties when I left Ohio.
[01:13:39] Speaker B: Okay. Was it still a village at that point?
[01:13:42] Speaker C: Actually, it was a village and a township. We were raised out in the township by the country club. Before it was a country club, it was actually a cow pasture when we live there.
[01:13:53] Speaker B: Gotcha. Okay.
[01:13:58] Speaker C: It's a nice cow pasture, I can tell you. I still know the pro there. We were actually charter members because they knocked on our door and said, for $500, you can join a country club that we're going to build.
[01:14:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:14:12] Speaker A: Nice, nice. Yeah, I was at a wedding over there once. It's a real nice facility.
So what brought you to Dallas?
[01:14:21] Speaker C: I graduated from Ohio State before there was a v on it in 1982 when the economy was terrible. At that time, actually, I was living in Mansfield and the unemployment was about 17% in Mansfield, Ohio. So I left to get a job.
[01:14:39] Speaker A: Gotcha. And then stayed there ever since. Right.
[01:14:43] Speaker C: You know what? I know. I actually, I've migrated here. I've been in Oklahoma, California, Florida, Colorado.
Yeah, I ended up here.
[01:14:53] Speaker B: Traveling man.
[01:14:54] Speaker C: 2027.
[01:14:55] Speaker A: You've been everywhere.
[01:14:56] Speaker C: I'm in the mortgage business. You go where? Where the mortgages are.
[01:15:00] Speaker A: Fair enough, fair enough. That was my last stop was. Was in mortgage.
Awesome. Well, no, I appreciate just your background there. So now we've talked about your chapter a little bit. Obviously, we have this weekend beginning football for the first time and going to carry us through the rest of the year, essentially. So what are your thoughts on this upcoming Brownstein just the season outlook in general.
[01:15:27] Speaker C: I mean, I'm optimistic. I mean, cautiously optimistic. There's a lot of ifs out there, but I don't see why we can't improve on or match last year's record with the team we have. I think we've added to the team. It's better.
[01:15:43] Speaker A: Any particular challenges that you're a little wary of?
[01:15:46] Speaker C: Let's see. Deshaun Watson.
[01:15:52] Speaker A: So is your concern there? Is it whether he's healthy or whether he's good?
[01:15:57] Speaker C: I think whether he's good. I mean, he showed flashes of brilliance when he has played, but he's also looked mediocre at times when he's played.
[01:16:06] Speaker A: But yeah, yeah, far cry from, from his years there in Houston, for sure. So hopefully he can continue to improve.
So obviously, we have a season opener here this week, home opener against Dallas Cowboys.
[01:16:23] Speaker C: Cowgirls. Let's get it right, the cowgirls.
[01:16:27] Speaker A: Perfect.
What's the temperature around town? Wherever? Hearing anything locally? Is there expectations for this team this year? It seems like just from, you know, what we get here, that the offseason was maybe a little disappointing. Obviously, they've got some questions around contracts still with the head coach and the quarterback, but what's the, what's the temperature down there?
[01:16:47] Speaker C: Well, if you listen to the newspaper, they're a Super bowl champ already.
If you listen to their fans, they're concerned because they didn't do any upgrades in the offensive season and they do have the contract issues.
[01:17:04] Speaker A: Any, any thoughts on, I mean, are they talking about, you know, the Browns at all this week, or are they just a team that thinks they're going to steamroll everybody and they should win every week or there do they have, is there anybody that's, that's concerned about this Browns team?
[01:17:18] Speaker C: I think the fans are very concerned about it. When I talk to people, it's like the Browns have had our numbers over the years and it's in Cleveland, so, you know, there's going to be a huge crowd and it's going to be loud and the question mark is not going to play their best receiver.
So how good is their offense really going to be? They don't have a running back anymore. I mean, they've got a retread and Ezekiel Elliot Elliott. Excuse me, can't talk.
[01:17:49] Speaker A: Yeah, Zeke down there seems like there's a stable of journeymen behind him there. I know they signed Dalvin Cook, but last I heard, it sounds like he's still going to be labeled practice squad, at least for this week. Is that what you're hearing as well down there.
[01:18:03] Speaker C: That is definitely what I'm hearing.
[01:18:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
So, yeah, that running back room is not great.
[01:18:09] Speaker B: It's amazing how fast running backs fall.
It's just like Dalvin Cook a couple years ago, man, was just a stud.
[01:18:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he had that one bad season, really, last year with New York and bounced around a little bit, and now it's like he's damaged goods.
So do you have any special events, I guess, to kick off the NFL season with your chapters here, outside of your normal watch parties?
[01:18:31] Speaker C: We're going to do our watch parties. I do know in five weeks, we are doing a. We get all five groups in one location. We do some really, really nice raffle prizes.
Last year, we had about 250 people show up for that game, and we raised $1,500 for the charity just through raffles.
[01:18:51] Speaker A: Awesome.
[01:18:52] Speaker C: We'll do that. And then we also were starting to promote. We always go to a Cavaliers game since they come to Dallas once a year.
[01:19:00] Speaker A: Nice.
[01:19:01] Speaker C: And we've always done a Indians, I mean, guardians game every year.
[01:19:05] Speaker A: Yeah, that one still trips us up, too.
So do you get pretty good crowds in for the Cavs and the guards, then?
[01:19:11] Speaker C: For the guards this year we had 115.
The Cavaliers are hit and miss.
[01:19:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:19:18] Speaker C: Depending if it's a weekday game. We don't.
If we actually pull a week, weekend will pull in 50 to 75.
[01:19:24] Speaker A: Fair enough. Fair enough. No, that's awesome. I am glad to hear you guys are getting activity for the other Cleveland sports teams as well. That's not something that is super consistent around some of these groups, so that's. That's great to hear.
Awesome. Well, obviously, like I said, you're right in there in their backyard there in Dallas. So do you have a score prediction for this week's game?
[01:19:48] Speaker C: No. I'm gonna say the Browns are gonna win by a touchdown, but I'm not gonna put a score out there because I really think it's gonna be a low scoring game.
[01:19:57] Speaker A: I can respect that.
We know we never like to be disappointed by our browns. It's always good to go in with lower expectations. Right?
Awesome. Well, and then I guess my final question for you is, since it is the beginning of the season, you're the luck one. Do you have an overall season prediction in terms of where you expect them to finish out? And is this a playoff team or not?
[01:20:22] Speaker C: I'm going to say eleven and six.
And yes, it's a playoff team.
[01:20:30] Speaker B: Awesome.
[01:20:30] Speaker A: I think eleven six wins the division.
[01:20:32] Speaker C: No, unfortunately, we're in the toughest division out. So we're in. Is a wild card. I mean, I hate to say Baltimore is stacked.
[01:20:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, obviously there was a ton of moves in the AFC north on Pittsburgh and Baltimore, both bringing in Derek Henry to Baltimore and who moved over to Pittsburgh on the defensive linebacker Patrick Queen. Patrick Queen, yeah. So they bolstered the defense. He had new quarterbacks there. And Joe Burrows healthy in Cincinnati. So should be a tight division. So if we don't win the division, who do you think does win the division coming out of the north?
[01:21:08] Speaker C: I'll go with Baltimore.
[01:21:10] Speaker A: Baltimore there.
[01:21:13] Speaker C: How can you vote against the MVP?
[01:21:15] Speaker A: And now they've added King Henry.
No. Makes total sense. Well, hey, look, it's been great having you on. Great talking to you. I'm so glad we got a chance to chat here with, like I said, someone down there in the backyard of the Dallas team. We're going to be playing this weekend and we wish you all the best. Thank you so much for joining this week.
[01:21:37] Speaker C: Well, thank you for having me. And. Go Browns.
[01:21:40] Speaker A: Go Browns.
[01:21:44] Speaker C: This is the Dallas area Browns backers, and you are listening to the burning river sport cast. Go Browns.
[01:21:50] Speaker A: Woof. Woof.
All right, good time. Talking to friends with the Dallas area Browns backers.
[01:21:59] Speaker B: Yeah, it was a good conversation. Fun lot of people in Dallas. Yeah, part of the, that's, that was wild.
[01:22:04] Speaker A: I mean, you think about putting events on for that many people across that many locations, right?
I mean, that's a feat in and of itself just to keep all that organized.
And it sounds like they're raising money.
[01:22:17] Speaker B: I was amazed by that number. That was, I think he said, like 14,000 or something last year.
[01:22:24] Speaker A: You think about it, that's every year they're raising that kind of money, like over the course of 510 years like this. This group's been pretty cool since, what, 1980, he said, like work, incredible contributions to the community, and it sounds like they're growing. Sounds like they're adding locations. So that's always good. We'd love to see that. For our browns backers groups, there's so many things competing for our time today.
So for people to still be engaged and want to be a part of not only a fan club, but a group of people that is involved in a huge part of their community, just awesome to see. So, well done, Dallas area Browns backers. So with that, let's take a quick revenue break and then we'll get back here and talk about the rest of the divisions. All right, I got something to talk about.
[01:24:00] Speaker B: Oh, what's that?
[01:24:02] Speaker A: Something is coming up. Something exciting that we're real excited about.
[01:24:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I'm excited for it.
[01:24:07] Speaker A: And that is the Burning river sports guest and the dog pound taking over New Orleans.
That's right, the New Orleans true fan travel trip.
So the event includes optional round trip, private charter flight, three night stay at the Renaissance New Orleans Orleans French Quarter welcome party. All inclusive cruise down the Mississippi river with the dog pound, including the burning river sportscast Q and a with Kevin Mac. I'm sure probably sent some autographs to pep rally. All inclusive tailgate tickets to the game at the world renowned Superdome. On site trip coordinators to handle any questions, issues that may arise.
This event is going to be so much fun.
[01:24:50] Speaker B: I'm so pumped. Thanks for bringing me. I can't wait, man.
[01:24:53] Speaker A: Thanks for being here. So wouldn't go on without the bow, man.
No. This thing is gonna be lit myself. Red hot Rodney jams the bone man. All going down in New Orleans. We're excited to take some beads home, get some beignets, just to see the super dome. Yeah, I was actually just watching a thing on Katrina the other day, like then and now. Kind of, type of. It's just incredible.
Kind of where they were at the height of the destruction to, like, the normality of life that exists here today.
It was a long time ago, but not that long ago.
[01:25:29] Speaker B: Sure.
[01:25:29] Speaker A: You know, and then they've rebuilt so much of this and just the superdome was such a critical piece of that whole story, housing people for.
[01:25:38] Speaker B: I just remember seeing the news, the news video, people in there for weeks, just like I.
[01:25:42] Speaker A: That was one of the only, like, kind of safe refuges for people. So, you know, historical. Obviously, the Super Bowls, things been played there, but just something that's kind of like, as a sports fan, like, bucket list item like the Superdome.
So super excited. Plus, they're playing the saints so we're gonna win.
[01:26:03] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. We have their number.
[01:26:05] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, who's.
[01:26:06] Speaker B: Except I think they came up and beat us in cold weather. Game. Was that last year? Two years ago was freezing.
[01:26:11] Speaker A: That doesn't matter.
[01:26:12] Speaker B: Yeah, not happy. Cut that from the show because we're.
[01:26:16] Speaker A: Going there this time and we're going to take their home. It'll be the browns super dull by the time we're done with it. So again, true fan travel. Check that out online. Check it out in the links in the show notes.
We would love for you to join us in New Orleans.
And that takes us to you, the king of the North. King of the north.
All right. In case anyone doesn't know by now, this is our year long Afz north. Wow. That came out of my mouth weird. This is our year long AFC north pick'em come competition. At the end of the season, whoever comes in last place gets punished.
And in the preseason last year, Kenny, that's me, had a gross of eggs thrown at him by fans in a mini lot before a game and a preseason. This year, Kenny, that's me, had his head and beard shaved clean off. And that's a lot of hair donated.
We're working on the punishment for this year. We have a couple of ideas in mind. We're going to announce it this year so we all can look forward to the loser having to go through this. We just haven't decided just yet on what that's going to be. So we don't know yet what Kenny, what me will have to do next year or this year for losing.
So let's get into it. But first things first. We do want to remind everyone that bone is the reigning, defending king of the North.
Kenny, that's me as always, is a clown. Let's remind everyone of last year's final records. Bone man eking out the season long victory at 33 and 23. Red eye running gems at 31 and 25. And myself. We're not going to talk about it.
So let's kick off this year and get in to this week's games.
Cincinnati hosts New England. Ronnie picks Cincinnati. Bowman, who do you got?
[01:28:16] Speaker B: I'm also going to pick Cincinnati.
That's all I got to say.
I think Joe Burrow, he's going to be throwing the ball at Jamar. It's just going to be. They'll be back.
[01:28:28] Speaker A: Yeah, they'll be back.
[01:28:28] Speaker B: Looking good.
[01:28:30] Speaker A: I'm going to go Cincy as well. I think New England has the potential to be one of this year's dumpster fire teams.
Jacobi Brissetta set to start. He was kind of injured in the preseason. They've got Drake may waiting in the wings who will see what, what he does. A receiving core that isn't very good. JuJu Smith Schuster couldn't even make it.
He got cut. He got cut and, and they don't really have anybody that's better than him on that roster. So, yeah, I just think they're thin at a lot of critical positions. That defense maybe is going to be better than last year's, but, but I just think they're, they're bad. And look, the line reflects that. They're an eight point or eight point point dog this week playing Cincinnati. So I'm going to go Cincinnati Steelers, Pittsburgh Steelers, travel to Atlanta and the Mercedes Benz. Your other dome.
Ronnie picks the Falcons bone man.
[01:29:27] Speaker B: Of course he did. I'm also going to pick the Falcons. Maybe a little rough start for the new quarterback situation.
Little, little wrinkles. They got to work out and Atlanta's going to take advantage of that.
[01:29:37] Speaker A: Yeah, Atlanta's got some quarterback turmoil there for sure. I mean, it sounds like Kirk Cousins be the man for now, but the surprise draft pick there with Michael Pennix.
[01:29:47] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:29:49] Speaker A: Hadn't heard a lot about Pennix, though, in the offseason, like in terms of, like training camp or any of that. I don't either.
[01:29:54] Speaker B: I didn't really, honestly.
[01:29:55] Speaker A: And that, I follow Atlanta that closely.
Good running back, but yeah, they got some pieces down there. Drake, London, good young receiver down there. That defense, defense wasn't God awful last year, so they should be a little improved this year as well.
And I just think the Steelers team is going to take time to mesh. Obviously, Ross being a starter down there, not knowing kind of what direction that that offense is going to go. I've got Najee, whose deal hasn't been picked up, not sure. You know, they've got some other good running back, young running backs in the stable there. So we'll see if they maybe work away from the running game, which has been kind of a staple in the past. Got Patrick Queen in the all season. So do you think the defense will be formidable at some point, but just not sure it's yet. And just given that they're in Atlanta, I will go Falcons.
[01:30:48] Speaker B: I have a strange feeling we're all going to be wrong on that.
[01:30:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, that would be the case.
[01:30:56] Speaker B: Yeah. Nobody said it yet, but they got Mike Tomlin.
[01:30:58] Speaker A: I would love Steelers to just start like, oh, one five.
[01:31:00] Speaker B: I know it would be great.
[01:31:01] Speaker A: Just, just one time in my life. The Ravens said to Kansas City on Thursday night, football on prime to kick off the season, ronnie picks Kansas City. Bone, man, where you at.
[01:31:15] Speaker B: Man? Are we all going to pick the same teams this whole week? Just start off like the same record? You know what? I'm going to go Baltimore.
[01:31:23] Speaker A: Nice.
[01:31:23] Speaker B: I'm going to, I'm going to say lamar is going to light it up. I think he's going to look really well. He ain't getting hurt this game. I think he will in a future game. But this game is a quarterback. Sorry. He just does. This is his year to do that. So it's like every other for him. So I'm going to go. I'm going to go Baltimore.
[01:31:44] Speaker A: Nice.
Gosh, I am excited about this game. This should be slobberknocker of a matchup.
I guess. It is a good football team and they're returning everybody basically headed for that three peat.
Lamar is a reigning mvp, though, and they've added King Henry.
I think this ends up being kind of a statement game for Baltimore. Out the gate. I'm going to go Ravens. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to pick the Ravens to win ever going kind of by last season struggled a little bit out the gate, lost some games to like, teams they should lost like the Raiders early on.
And I would expect that a team that's coming off another Super bowl win, bringing everybody back, like, it's easy to get complacent in the early part of the season.
[01:32:38] Speaker B: Sure.
[01:32:39] Speaker A: And then, you know, they don't lose games in December. It's like that kind of like still the preseason for them and not that they're learning a bunch of new shit, but like, I just think it's easy to just kind of be like, we're gonna come in and play our game and if we get beat, we get beat. It's not that serious yet, you know, is it?
[01:32:58] Speaker B: Oh, it's in Kansas City. Okay.
[01:32:59] Speaker A: Yeah, it is in Kansas City. Yeah. I'm sure they'll do your ring ceremony and all that nonsense beforehand, so that'll be fun.
But I do think the Baltimore Ravens come and spoil the party.
And then lastly we'll pick team and a score here. Our brownies host the Cowboys at the newly dubbed Huntington bank Field.
Ronnie has Cleveland winning 20 413 ball man.
[01:33:29] Speaker B: Cleveland. 1714.
Dustin Hopkins game winning field goal.
[01:33:35] Speaker A: You love d hop?
[01:33:36] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I love. I mean, check out the d hop shirt.
[01:33:41] Speaker A: Would you say 1714?
[01:33:43] Speaker B: 1714.
[01:33:44] Speaker A: Smart. Smart.
[01:33:46] Speaker B: Are you adding it? I'll add it. Oh, I didn't mess no you're doing it. Okay.
[01:33:50] Speaker A: I screwed it up. You're good. I didn't realize you're putting them in. It's good work.
[01:33:53] Speaker B: I was wondering why. Okay. Yeah, never mind.
[01:33:56] Speaker A: Sorry. I was watching the recording, and I know, I was like, we probably need to put this in here, so.
All right, so for my stuff myself, Browns hosting the Cowboys week one.
Tom Brady in the booth. Going to be mid prime time here. Can't wait to hear this thing and watch this thing go down.
Look, here's the deal. I think this Cowboys team is overrated, as usual. I think they're going to put up a bunch of numbers this season. They'll probably play some decent defense.
I think Cleveland just comes in and has too much energy. The stadium is going to be rock. And I think this is, like, our.
I don't call it a revenge game for, like, losing in the playoffs, but I think this is our, like, we're. We're back and we're here game. Like, last season, I was kind of lightning in a bottle. We had a 40 year old journeyman, like, show up at Super bowl, but he was a journeyman now at a 40 year old guy to show off his couch. And we want some games or shouldn't have and made the playoffs. Like, this whole team's intact. This whole team looks great on paper. Everybody, for the most part, is healthy. I'm going browns big in this one. I see 30, 314.
[01:35:01] Speaker B: Oh, man, I love it.
[01:35:02] Speaker A: Yes. Man.
[01:35:03] Speaker B: How pumped would you be if 30, 314.
[01:35:05] Speaker A: Absolutely. Just blow them out. Just run them out of town. Let everybody know.
[01:35:09] Speaker B: That'd be so much fun. The Cowboys, so much fun.
[01:35:11] Speaker A: Still suck.
And that'll take us to gassed up.
All right, this is gassed up. This is a segment where we like to vent about what's either pissing us off or just getting us just generally excitable in the world today. Bowman, you got anything this week?
[01:35:34] Speaker B: Man, oh, man. Right to me. All right. I always forget about the excited, the excited portion, but it's. It's almost fall. All right. I love fall. My birthday's in the fall. Football's in the fall. Pumpkins are in the fall, man.
[01:35:47] Speaker A: Here. Soon?
[01:35:48] Speaker B: Yeah, it's soon. It's soon.
I'm not. I don't mind my age, whatever. It comes every year, so. So be it. But, uh.
Yeah, so I'm excited. I'm excited for the fall football season. Like I already said, going to like a. I don't know, we go to, like, a pumpkin patch, you know, with the kids and stuff. It's always fun. Do a little corn maze or something like that. Your girls have, like, now that they.
[01:36:11] Speaker A: Can, like, pick their own pumpkins, you do fun stuff.
[01:36:14] Speaker B: Yeah. They'll have me still reach in and grab the guts. They're too scared to do it. Like, come on, the little one will try. But then she's like, yeah, I don't know about that.
[01:36:24] Speaker A: I still don't like pumpkin.
[01:36:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
You know what she is into, like, pumpkin seeds all of a sudden. I don't know where they got this. They must have got it from a television show or something, because they're like, dad, can you make pumpkin seeds for us? I'm like, who are you? You're, like, the most picky eaters ever. And you want pumpkin seeds?
[01:36:38] Speaker A: They want to eat them.
[01:36:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I think they saw it on tv or something. I don't know. One of their. Whatever. Whatever.
[01:36:44] Speaker A: It was something that I wanted to eat.
[01:36:46] Speaker B: I've since tried them, and they're. They're not bad, but, I mean, people.
[01:36:49] Speaker A: Like, flavor my stuff, right? Kind of like some flower seeds, like you put.
[01:36:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Either salt or some type of old bay or something on them or whatever.
[01:36:55] Speaker A: It is, but honey baker or something.
[01:36:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:36:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:36:59] Speaker B: Yes. I'm excited for fall.
[01:37:00] Speaker A: Fall's good. You know the thing that I'm looking forward to the most in fall, not besides football season and chili chicken dip.
Cider.
[01:37:11] Speaker B: Yeah, that should have been on the list.
[01:37:12] Speaker A: Love cider.
[01:37:14] Speaker B: Like, hot cider or is this any cider?
[01:37:15] Speaker A: I love it all. I mean, like, I'll drink, like, a gallon of it in a sitting and then shit for three straight days. Like, I just can't help myself.
I miss the days, like, when you could go to a local orchard before they, like, even had to, like, pasteurize it. Like, that kind of. It kills a little bit of the natural vibe that you get. Yeah. Just that raw flavor of sour cider. Fermented delicious. So good.
But, yeah, I also like it hot, you know, especially when it gets. Gets uber cold outside. It's nice to just curl up and have a hot cider with a little cinnamon stick action in it.
[01:37:49] Speaker B: Sure. Stir stick.
[01:37:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:37:52] Speaker B: You know what? Can I add one more thing to mine?
[01:37:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:37:54] Speaker B: You brought up cider. Just apples in general. Like, apple season is. You get fresh apples at the store. It's so hard to find a good apple right now, you know, throughout the summer. Like, you pick one, they have them coated and wax and stuff, so you. You can't tell, and you bite into it, and it's all kind of soft and mushy or.
The most disappointing thing, facts for days.
[01:38:13] Speaker A: Is that those apples in a grocery store can sit in storage. Twelve months.
[01:38:16] Speaker B: Oh, it's insane.
[01:38:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:38:18] Speaker B: But.
[01:38:18] Speaker A: Versus going to get hand pick out like they were picked that morning. Now you pick your own.
[01:38:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Now you hope. Yeah, exactly. Pick your own. Or giant eagle. Be like, hey, these are from this orchard in the area. They're new. They're fresh. You know, they're good. So.
[01:38:29] Speaker A: And I'm just still glad that there. There's still orchards for us to go to to get fresh apples. Apple cider. Cause when I was little, it seemed like there was more. And it seems like, you know, we've lost some with either just families retiring from the business. Maybe it's not as profitable as it used to be. I don't know. But.
But we're fortunate to live in the communities that we do here, kind of in northeast Ohio that still have apple orchards for us to go to and get fresh apple cider and fresh apple. Because you're right, man. I mean, buy red delicious apples at the grocery store. Like, you don't know where they came from or how long they've been sitting there. But, man, you go get some Jonah golds or something. Just.
Yeah, just handpicked that morning. And there's a huge difference in quality, taste, texture, everything just that crisp.
And you wash it down. Some apple cider. Apple.
[01:39:21] Speaker B: Apple on apple.
[01:39:22] Speaker A: Yeah. It's an apple ception.
[01:39:24] Speaker B: Apple pie.
[01:39:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
Very nice. So bone man is excited. He's gassed up about the fall.
I'm gassed up.
I'm guessed about the Mandela effect.
[01:39:41] Speaker B: Ooh, do explain.
[01:39:44] Speaker A: Are you familiar with the Mandela effect? Just in general, just the idea that.
[01:39:48] Speaker B: I don't think so.
[01:39:50] Speaker A: What's, like, the one most famous ones, like, do you remember Sinbad playing a genie?
[01:39:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:39:57] Speaker A: In a comedy called, like, shazam or kazam. We were little.
[01:40:00] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:40:00] Speaker A: Well, that never happened.
[01:40:02] Speaker B: Huh?
[01:40:02] Speaker A: Never happened. He never was in a movie called Kazam. Shazam was never a genie. Didn't happen. But, like, you vividly remember it, don't you?
[01:40:10] Speaker B: Was it a television show?
[01:40:11] Speaker A: It was not. It didn't exist.
[01:40:13] Speaker B: Are you sure? Was it a cartoon?
[01:40:15] Speaker A: This is the Mandela effect. We remember this. And that's one of the most famous. Cause we all. I swear to God, like, on my everything.
[01:40:23] Speaker B: Are there, like, articles written about this?
[01:40:24] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's very, like, well known psychological something. And scientists really can't explain it. Like, is it the intersection of, like, different realities, like relativity and time and, like, is there an alternate universe where Sinbad did play.
[01:40:39] Speaker B: Is there a movie called Sinbad?
[01:40:43] Speaker A: Shaq was in a movie where he played a genie. Genie. And I didn't think that was kidde, but I think, I swear there was a person playing the GD called Shazam.
And like, so do millions of other people on the planet.
[01:40:59] Speaker B: I mean, I immediately related when you.
[01:41:01] Speaker A: Said that other people, like, if you think about like the fruit of the loom logo, what do you see?
[01:41:08] Speaker B: It's a bunch of fruit, right?
[01:41:09] Speaker A: Or not just a bunch of fruit, just what, sitting on a table?
[01:41:13] Speaker B: Is it a cornucopia?
[01:41:14] Speaker A: Is it a cornucopia? Right. Yeah, it's not a cornucopia. But like in your mind, you can you probably picturing that logo.
[01:41:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:41:21] Speaker A: You see the cornucopia, you know the fruit in it, like, sure. These are, these are like some of the well known ones. Okay.
It drives me crazy. Okay, there's a long, like you, if you google it, there's a long list and you'll be like, yes, I remember that happening.
[01:41:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:41:36] Speaker A: And there's really no, there's no reason why millions of people remember something that didn't happen.
[01:41:43] Speaker B: It's like association or.
[01:41:46] Speaker A: But it's one of those things that like, we've never talked about that. Like, we were never like, oh, that Sinbad movie. But like, for whatever reason, it's in your head and it's in mine, right?
[01:41:55] Speaker B: That's odd.
[01:41:56] Speaker A: No one can explain why.
So anyways, I've been Mandela affected myself.
I don't know. This is a popular one yet. I've googled, I googled it trying to figure. But what I found was I've been Mandela affected.
[01:42:11] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:42:14] Speaker A: There'S a girl actress, unique look to her. She played the queen's gambit. Yeah, she played in.
[01:42:23] Speaker B: I know exactly you're talking about.
[01:42:24] Speaker A: Played in Peaky Blinders for a minute.
What's her name?
[01:42:28] Speaker B: I have no idea.
[01:42:34] Speaker A: Like when this girl came on the scene, I was like, mildly like a little. I was like, this is just a unique looking individual. And so I was like looking up all the different things she might have been in. Like, I wanted to watch other stuff she was in.
And I come to find that her name is Anna Taylor Joy.
All of a sudden, a few weeks ago, I started seeing previews for Mad Max Curiosa.
And her name is Anya. A n y a. Taylor Choi.
[01:43:07] Speaker B: Anya.
[01:43:09] Speaker A: And I'm like, I know for certain that, like, I googled this girl to the nth degree. Cuz I was like, who is this, like, kind of hot, weird looking chick?
Like, I did my homework on this girl. I learned every movie she was in. I was like, I gotta watch all these. Cause I got a thing going on. I don't know. It's gone now, but I had it going on.
But I can swear to you that this girl's name was Anna. A n n a.
But I can't find any trace of her being cool. I thought it was maybe like a.
[01:43:39] Speaker B: It's now spelled differently, too.
[01:43:40] Speaker A: Spelled differently? Yeah.
[01:43:41] Speaker B: It's not just an accent or.
[01:43:43] Speaker A: I don't even know if they pronounce it differently. It just says it on the screen, you know, but there's a y in it all of a sudden.
[01:43:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:43:50] Speaker A: And I'm googling. I'm like, when did she become Anya? When. When did she go from Anna Donia? Like, there has to be a record of this. Like, people in Hollywood do weird shit, you know, or they. They change a name or like, whatever. And I'm like, I can see that happen. Like, she's a young actress that's coming into her own. And all of a sudden, like, now she's like, kind of a list or getting to be a list actress.
But no, apparently her name's always been Anya Taylor Joy. So I've. Me and Dell affected myself.
[01:44:19] Speaker B: Yeah. I will never forget her name now.
[01:44:21] Speaker A: And I. Well, when you. Next time you remember it, it might be something different. You might Mandela touch yourself. She might be Annie Taylor Joy next time.
[01:44:29] Speaker B: Annie.
[01:44:30] Speaker A: So I just like. But it just drives me crazy because, like, I hardcore google this chick.
[01:44:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:44:37] Speaker A: And I was like, this is Anna Taylor Joy. And now. Now she's not.
[01:44:42] Speaker B: Yeah, you got.
[01:44:43] Speaker A: There's no record of her ever being Anna Taylor Joy. And I'm like, how is it that impossible?
[01:44:48] Speaker B: There was a credit correction in the Matrix.
[01:44:50] Speaker A: Like, I don't get a pretty, like, attention to details kind of guy.
[01:44:54] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:44:55] Speaker A: Like, I don't.
I don't miss letters and things. So I'm like, how? How did I not. Like, Anya is a very different name than Anna.
[01:45:04] Speaker B: Mm hmm.
[01:45:04] Speaker A: I mean, any of implies, like, different ethnicities and things, you know, like, maybe she's russian or something. Yeah. Like, Anna, you could just be stone cold white american, right?
I can't explain how I missed that bat.
[01:45:19] Speaker B: You're completely baffling.
[01:45:20] Speaker A: It is driving me batshit crazy.
So that's what I'm guessed about right now, is Mandela effect. So if anyone else has been. Has been experienced, the Anna Taylor Joy, Anya Taylor Joy, Mandela put it on.
[01:45:35] Speaker B: The hot take hotline.
[01:45:37] Speaker A: Let me know how pissed off you are too, that this girl went from being in whatever the menu or the diner or whatever she was in to Furiosa and now she's. Anya got me.
[01:45:48] Speaker B: So, yeah, that was a good one. I like that.
[01:45:50] Speaker A: I hate it. Drives me insane. And especially the fact that there's like, just. There's just no scientific explanation for why this happens, why we remember things differently, I guess. Like the Mandela effect, named after Nelson Mannae Mandela, that he, like, died. But like, when he didn't die, people.
[01:46:09] Speaker B: Just thought he was dead.
[01:46:10] Speaker A: Yeah, thought he was dead. Every's like, oh, yeah, Nelson Mandela died during perth. Died or whatever.
[01:46:15] Speaker B: Like, I think he's just in prison or something.
[01:46:18] Speaker A: He's just there.
[01:46:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:46:19] Speaker A: So anyway, let me remind you to call the burning river sports guest hot take hotline. Don't forget to call and leave your hot takes on the hot take outline. [01:46:51] Speaker B: I think that's it.
[01:46:52] Speaker A: We make it all the way through.
[01:46:53] Speaker B: Ronnie, is this it?
[01:46:54] Speaker A: We didn't forget anything.
I think we've made it all the way through.
I'm just double checking because I want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Don't like, don't like that time went fast.
[01:47:04] Speaker B: I think it pretty quick.
[01:47:06] Speaker A: Okay, well, anyway, that'll do it for us. What do we expect next week, Kenny? That's me. Round of jambs will be back. We will recap the week one beat down of the Cowboys as our friends in Dalcon, the Cowgirls. Week two preview for the game against the Jaguars. Another Browns backer interview. This time we will talk to our good friends in Punta Gordae and the. Oh, excuse me.
[01:47:28] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, let it out.
[01:47:29] Speaker A: That was embarrassing. And then that's why I'm not on the real radio. And then we'll be revealing some exciting changes in our programming and the format of our show. Moving forward, we have some excellent fun things in the works to create even greater engagement with all our friends at the Burning river sportscast. Again, don't forget to check out our social media pages. Tapa media. That's Facebook, Twitter, Twitter and Instagram.
Add the.
[01:48:00] Speaker B: Tappinmedia.
[01:48:01] Speaker A: Twitter shouldn't be.
Oh, that's.
I don't normally do this for Ronnie, does it? Sorry, let me start over. Don't forget to check out our social media pages. At tapping media, that's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. At the tapping media, burning River Sportscast is on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. At Burning Rivers, but on X, Twitter, earningriverpod, that's where I was hung up. And where do we find a podcast again? Wherever you get your podcasts. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, music, Amazon music, Stitcher, Pandora, iHeartradio, Pocketcast, Castro, good pods and so many more. And what did the digest do? Facts for days.
All right, so we do have some facts for days. And since it is opening weekend in the NFL, we have some NFL facts.
Number one, since the NFL's creation in August of 1921, team has been with the league longer than everyone else. Do you know who that team is?
The longest running team in the NFL?
[01:49:24] Speaker B: The Los Angeles Rams.
[01:49:25] Speaker A: You can guess all day. You're not going to get it. The Arizona Cardinals team started in 1898 that can be traced all the way back to the Morgan Athletic Club, 21 years before the NFL's founding. The team has a long history and several relocations and name changes from Morgan Athletic Club to the racing normals. Racing Cardinals Chicago Cardinals card pit St. Louis Cardinals, Phoenix Cardinals Arizona Cardinals but the one consistent detail about the Cards is their colors always sporting red, white and black. Wow. I never knew that as the oldest franchise in the NFL, even before the NFL.
[01:50:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:50:02] Speaker A: Yeah. I wouldn't have guessed Arizona. I thought that was. That was interesting.
[01:50:07] Speaker B: I thought they came about in the nineties.
[01:50:09] Speaker A: You think about some of the teams that you think is like Oldena and like, I don't. Detroit. Some of these other teams that were just.
[01:50:15] Speaker B: I was just thinking the Rams have been passed around a bunch of different places. I was like, maybe they're passed even before.
[01:50:21] Speaker A: Yeah, good. Good call. Number two.
This is an interesting one. In 1982 season, a gentleman by the name of Mark Moseley played for the Washington Redskins at the time. Commanders is the first and only time a kicker won the MVP.
[01:50:45] Speaker B: Really?
[01:50:46] Speaker A: Redskins kicker Mark Moseley won the MVP title after securing his team a place in the Super Bowl. Mosley's clutch field goals cleared the way for the Redskins to the title. What makes this one of the most remarkable NFL facts is that Mosley is the only place kicker in history to win the MVP title and the first special teams player to be nothing nominated at that point.
[01:51:06] Speaker B: Wow. What year was this?
[01:51:07] Speaker A: During the 1982 season, Mosley broke the NFL record for most consecutive field goals without a miss and went 20 for 21 field goals, setting a record completion rate of 95.2%.
[01:51:19] Speaker B: My mind's blown.
I feel like now, though, that's as expected.
[01:51:23] Speaker A: It's also of no. During the season, there was some kind of, like, lockout holdout.
[01:51:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:51:27] Speaker A: So it kind of, like, threw everything into a little bit of turmoil. They didn't play all the games or something. So that kind of led the way to, hey, like, this guy had a special season. We're gonna make him the MVP. And they did.
[01:51:38] Speaker B: That's neat.
[01:51:39] Speaker A: And at number three, this one will blow your balls off.
[01:51:45] Speaker B: Can't wait.
[01:51:45] Speaker A: Better hold on to them.
[01:51:46] Speaker B: They're being held.
[01:51:48] Speaker A: We're gonna go back to Washington. Doug Williams.
Quarterback Doug Williams.
[01:51:55] Speaker B: Okay. Never heard of him.
[01:51:57] Speaker A: I think it was the first black quarterback to win a Super bowl.
[01:51:59] Speaker B: Oh, sorry, folks.
[01:52:04] Speaker A: Has as many Super bowl touchdown passes, one game, as the Denver Broncos franchise.
[01:52:13] Speaker B: Huh?
[01:52:15] Speaker A: That's right. You've heard that right? Doug Williams heroic performance in Super Bowl 22, throwing four touchdowns at a blowout victory that wrote his name into NFL history. His opponent that faced day, the Broncos were making their second Super bowl appearance in franchise history and their second in succession.
In total, the Broncos have reached the Super bowl eight times and have the same number of touchdown passes as Doug Williams hung on them. That February afternoon in 1988, despite boasting three Lombardi trophies in a quarterbacks list that includes. Includes John Elway and Peyton Manning, it remains one of the most staggering stats in NFL history that the Broncos average one touchdown pass every other Super bowl.
[01:53:03] Speaker B: Every other.
That's wild.
[01:53:07] Speaker A: I mean, that just doesn't even make like you're in a Super bowl. Eight times.
[01:53:11] Speaker B: The Payton go twice with the Broncos.
[01:53:14] Speaker A: I think they got beat once by Seattle, right? Yeah, like 41 to or something ridiculous. And they won the other time they won, but I think the one they won was like, it was rainy and Peyton was like, at the end of his rope, was just. I mean, a guy already had his head taken off back on, and he was beat up that year.
He did. He had a surgery that took his neck out, put his head back on.
It's just hard to throw the ball after that.
But that gentleman, ladies and gentlemen, is backs for days.
[01:53:49] Speaker B: Oh, fantastic rendition, Mister Thunder.
[01:53:55] Speaker A: Got anything to say about that bone?
[01:53:56] Speaker B: I don't know. We gotta go. Bon appetit.
[01:53:58] Speaker A: Bon appetit. Don't be a part of the problem. Be the whole damn problem. And if Arani were here, he'd say, only you can prevent river fires burning. River sports gas burning river. Burning river. Burn rivers. Burning rivers.
[01:54:13] Speaker B: Burning river spoilers.
[01:54:14] Speaker A: The river is burning. The river is burning.
[01:54:18] Speaker B: Burning river.
[01:54:19] Speaker A: Sponge. Catch burning river. I can't wait to go to New Orleans. New Orleans. New Orleans.
[01:54:26] Speaker B: We're coming to New Orleans.
[01:54:28] Speaker A: To New Orleans. We're coming to New Orleans.
Burning river sports cast. Burning river.
[01:54:36] Speaker B: It's only two months away.
[01:54:41] Speaker A: Good night, Cleveland. Quiet on set. Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life is merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life.
[01:54:55] Speaker B: Is on a stream.
[01:55:04] Speaker A: Not a dream. We're like a string quartet.
I now have two loves in my.
[01:55:11] Speaker C: Life, big city living and a voodoo woman named Phyllis.
[01:55:16] Speaker A: So put your right foot in and take your right foot out. Then put your right foot in and shut the hell up. Because it's not time for the hokey pokey. It's time for the burning river. Sports cast.
[01:55:26] Speaker C: Motorboat.
[01:55:27] Speaker A: You play the motorboat, you smoothenhouse son of a bitch.
[01:55:32] Speaker C: You old sailor, you.
[01:55:33] Speaker A: You know, I was thinking during that interview.
[01:55:34] Speaker B: What?
[01:55:35] Speaker C: What were you thinking?
[01:55:35] Speaker B: Nothing.
[01:55:36] Speaker C: Cause you don't have thoughts.
[01:55:37] Speaker A: Cause you're a brainless idiot. Wow.
[01:55:40] Speaker B: My name is Uhtred, son of Uhtred.
[01:55:42] Speaker A: By the way, I want my foreskin back.
[01:55:44] Speaker C: It doesn't matter what you think.
[01:55:46] Speaker A: Women's guide to. To anal sex. And it was the second edition. Who makes that second edition?
[01:55:52] Speaker B: The weather outside is weather.
[01:55:55] Speaker A: The other one, the finger. The finger eating food fingers. Oh, my God. My ass is full of shit. He's shit everywhere.
[01:56:03] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:56:03] Speaker A: Ejaculate all over my body and my genitals.
[01:56:06] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:56:06] Speaker A: Oh, no, we suck again.
[01:56:09] Speaker B: You don't need fundamentals when you got heart.
[01:56:12] Speaker A: And Jesus. And Jesus. Touchdown.
[01:56:15] Speaker B: Anyway.
[01:56:16] Speaker A: What do you mean, funny? Funny how?
[01:56:17] Speaker B: How am I funny?
[01:56:18] Speaker A: It's going down.
Are we gonna. You're only in this. Did we start a meat podcast? Like. Like the meat pod?
Slow roasted?
The leads are weak. The leads are weak? Fucking leads are weak.
That we should send a team of oil core drillers a la Armageddon to mars to have them access the newly discovered reservoirs of water traps seven to 12 miles on the surface that, when released, will cover the entirety of everything on the planet less than a mile high. All I do is win, win, win no matter what. Erroneous. Erroneous on both counts.
[01:56:54] Speaker B: Oh, lord.
[01:56:54] Speaker A: I mean, when I. Last year when I went home, you.
[01:56:57] Speaker C: Know, my wife's pants hit the ground.
[01:56:59] Speaker A: Wow. But damn. I'm sorry. I hijacked your segment for a second to do some good podcasting.
You know why, mister? Cause you drove a hyundai to get here tonight. I drove an $80,000 BMW. That's my name now. I think we've officially lost all of our more conservative viewers, so I don't think they want to listen any longer.
[01:57:21] Speaker B: It's Mother Nature.
[01:57:23] Speaker C: I live my life a quarter mile at a time.
[01:57:25] Speaker A: Where's logo girl when you need her?
[01:57:26] Speaker B: I desperately want to make love for this cheese girl.
[01:57:28] Speaker A: We need cheese girl. Now, who's canceled now? Who's canceled now? Probably me. You making it full of fat people.
I'm not just you. We're a whole race, basically.
No way. She's just straight.
[01:57:47] Speaker C: Just finger banging their salad.
[01:57:51] Speaker B: You first get shocked, and then you get the shocker.
[01:57:56] Speaker A: You like to see almost naked.
[01:57:58] Speaker C: That's cool, man.
[01:57:58] Speaker B: Whatever. No, no, no.
[01:58:00] Speaker A: Most people, like, they're driving along and they're like, in between meals.
[01:58:03] Speaker C: I'm a little hungry.
[01:58:04] Speaker A: I'm gonna have a granola bar. Kenny's like, I need a cheeseburger.
