Show Notes

Everybody just calm down!!! Did the Browns go into Denver and make like Turkeys and lay an egg? Yes. Did they blow a chance to gain ground and potentially eventually overtake the Ravens for the division lead? Yes. Did Stefanski have a few more ridiculous play calls in this one that helped turn the tide against our Brownies? Yes. Did the Browns pick up several more injuries to add to their long list of existing injuries? Yes. But are the Browns still 7-4 and in a good spot to make the playoffs by season's end? HELL YES!

All of Cleveland needs to step back from the edge my friend because this team is resilient and it is going to be okay! The Browns had a bad game in Denver and were embarrassed by the Broncos, but the sky is not falling, the team will bounce back, and they will continue their playoff push even with injuries to several key players. Last week is done and over with and this week they have a date in LA LA Land with the Chargers and a chance to get one step closer to the ultimate prize. With DTR trying to get healthy in time for this week's game, we all hold our breath wondering if Joe Flacco will officially don the Orange and Brown in a regular season game in what promises to be one of the weirdest sights you'll ever see on the gridiron.

Plus we get to talk to John from the LA/Hollywood Browns Backers about their next level "Orange" Carpet block party that they have going on this Saturday before the game with a VIP list longer than even Santa would be able to check twice and we chat with Cleveland Browns Alum Felix Wright who will be joining us on the Browns Fan Cruise in March of 2024!

All that and more and we break it down for you on the Burning River Sportscast!

Don't wait. Secure your spot today and go Brown. It's time. [00:01:17] Speaker B: Time for the Burning River sportscast. And it's time for a big calm the fuck down. Let me read you a list. Nick chubb, deshaun watson, miles garrett, denzel ward, amari cooper, jack conklin, anthony walker, jedrick wills, marquise goodwin, roddy McLeod, dorian thompson, robinson, jacob phillips, Jaquim grant. This is now everyone injured on the Cleveland Browns team, and they're seven and four. Yes, Stefanski continued to pass the ball with a fifth round rookie quarterback over and over and over again. Yes, Stefanski did not want to run the ball on what was arguably Jerome Ford's most impressive game, averaging 7.2 yards a carry against the league's worst rushing defense. And yes, the injuries continue to pile up, but this team is seven and four. Honestly, I think this game was won and lost on the human element. Meaning the Browns came in smelling their own turkey and got stuffed by a team that was more prepared and had a better game plan. Maybe if the Browns let their gravy simmer a little longer, they may not have taken it straight to the giblets. That all sounds bad. Aren't you at all worried? No. Because this team is seven and four suicide watches over, and the most important Cleveland Brown sports pod is about to get lit. So take your belts off your fan and place it back in your paint loops. We'll break it all down for you right now, right here. You know it on the burning river sportscast. Here's the deal. [00:02:55] Speaker A: Shut your mouth. I'm not done yet. You shut your mouth. [00:02:57] Speaker C: The guy's got a small butt. Somehow he fitted in. [00:02:59] Speaker A: Got a small butt. [00:03:01] Speaker B: Small butt. [00:03:01] Speaker A: Got a small butt. Said he heard a pop, but know, hopefully, hopefully that's okay. And he's going to be back this week. We'll see. [00:03:08] Speaker B: If I stay too long on the toilet, sometimes I hear a pop. [00:03:11] Speaker A: Well, that's fair. You know who else runs for nine yards? [00:03:15] Speaker B: Nick Chubb. [00:03:17] Speaker A: Yeah, Nick Chubb. We don't have him. [00:03:19] Speaker C: I got the bar graph on the fridge and I color it in every week. Getting to that 120 mark. [00:03:24] Speaker A: Yeah, Max, it's an OD thing to do, but you love Dustin hopkins. [00:03:31] Speaker C: I love Phil, but I want to see that record beat. [00:03:33] Speaker A: Hell, yes. [00:03:35] Speaker B: If I was going to dabble in my sexuality, I would be a Schwartz sexual. [00:03:40] Speaker A: This week, the worst team in the league, the Carolina panthers, fired Matt Reich after a one in ten start. He didn't even make it through his first season. [00:03:48] Speaker B: Is it Matt Reich? Or is it Frank Reich? [00:03:50] Speaker A: Frank Reich. Matt Reich. Is it Frank? Is it Matt? [00:03:53] Speaker B: I think it's Frank. [00:03:54] Speaker A: I think it's Frank. I think it's Matt. [00:03:56] Speaker B: Because he wasn't getting any nettles either. [00:03:59] Speaker A: I will tell you who it is. It's Frank. [00:04:04] Speaker D: But through these tough times last couple of years, the Steelers bar closed. The Ravens bar closed. The Broncos bar closed. Guess what? The Browns bar is here in the middle of the heart of Hollywood. So we win. [00:04:18] Speaker A: You know what would make this dog pound logo better is if it was trademarked and you guys were the ones making the money off of. [00:04:26] Speaker E: Absolutely. I wouldn't be down there working on the sidelines. I'd be up in the suite hanging out. [00:04:35] Speaker A: See? [00:04:45] Speaker B: Welcome into the burning river sports cast, presented by tapin'media and brought to you by seaside events. As the official cruise event provider of the Cleveland browns and organizer of the browns fan cruise, I'm Kenny thunder, joined as always by my strawberry blonde cohort, the man with no plan, red hot Ronnie Jams. And on the board today, Halloween's favorite dad, the big bone man. Bone man, how are you repurposing your Halloween decor as Christmas decor this year? [00:05:10] Speaker C: Oh, well, I went as a king. [00:05:14] Speaker A: We three kings. [00:05:15] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly. So I just put it into the nativity. [00:05:17] Speaker B: Perfect. Gentlemen, how was your Thanksgivings stuffing? Stuffing? [00:05:23] Speaker A: It was good. This was my daughter's first Thanksgiving where she could eat actual food. So fun. [00:05:30] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:05:30] Speaker B: I kept telling baby Kenny, I was like, you're going to enjoy one day. [00:05:33] Speaker A: One day you'll like this? [00:05:34] Speaker B: Not now. [00:05:35] Speaker A: No. [00:05:36] Speaker B: So one day you'll just eat and watch football and it'd be great. [00:05:38] Speaker A: No. Yeah. Last year my daughter was all of like three weeks old and she didn't even really function yet. No. But this year she got to eat food and it was cool. [00:05:47] Speaker C: Bone pumpkin pie was delicious. I don't pumpkin pie a lot, but pumpkin pie was like whipped cream, man. [00:05:53] Speaker A: Hell yes. I love it. [00:05:54] Speaker B: It's not one of those things that you would eat all the time, but on Thanksgiving and around Christmas time, I really enjoy it. Back to red hot. Two questions. [00:06:02] Speaker A: Sure. [00:06:02] Speaker B: On the next episode of the birding river sports guest brought to you as a partner seaside events. Who is putting on a glorious fan cruise with our favorite teams players. Favorite players. [00:06:12] Speaker E: Who. [00:06:12] Speaker B: I really jumbled this whole thing up. Who are you looking forward to hearing? Who do you want to talk to next? [00:06:20] Speaker A: My God. This is going to be a good show. I probably want to talk to felix Wright. We haven't talked to him yet. [00:06:26] Speaker B: Rhymes with double helix. Felix, Felix, dumb dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. And number two, I got sound effects today, bro. Where can all our listeners find all of the Burning River Sports guests? Exclusive interviews with former Browns players all season long in preparation for what is going to be a sensational and might I say sensual boat ride this spring? [00:06:49] Speaker A: Guys, we're going to get back on track here. You can find our podcasts wherever you get your podcast. I'm talking Apple Podcasts, spotify Stitcher. Google Podcasts. Amazon Music. Pandora iHeartRadio Podcast castro good pods and so many more. And don't forget to subscribe on YouTube. That's where you can find the video version of those interviews that you just talked about. Yes, the only place that you can find our video podcast as well. And check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, our handle for all those. And our YouTube is at Burning River Sportscast. We're on Xthea artist formerly known as Twitter as well, with the handle at Burning River Pod. And while you're at it, check out our merch WW Thetappinmedia.com Backslash Shop. We got all kinds of stuff in the shop. We got the cruise line, the chubb line, cold weather gear, all kinds of stuff. We keep adding more, so just go there, buy it. [00:07:33] Speaker B: The chubb line would have been so much more popular had that chubb not gone down in week two. [00:07:36] Speaker A: Yeah, it would have. As the season went on, you could start a flaccid, and then you could be quarter chub, half chub, full chub. It'd be good. [00:07:45] Speaker B: Next year we're going to add like extra chub. [00:07:46] Speaker A: Next year, we're going to have the bone meter. [00:07:49] Speaker B: Nice. [00:07:49] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyways, in today's show, we're going to try to have some fun. I know we're coming off a bad loss, but we still got a good lineup for you today. So today we've got a week twelve recap of the brutal loss to the Denver Broncos that left the Browns reeling. That part's not fun. But we also have an interview with the La. Browns backers, another interview with a Browns alumni that will be joining us on the Browns Fan Cruise in March of 2024, as you mentioned, Mr. Felix Wright. Felix Wright. And finally, we round out the show with the week 13 preview for the game against the Los Angeles Rams. So put on your swim trunks and let's dive right in with the Burning River news story of the week. All right, so first off, some MLS news for you this week. That's Major League Soccer for anybody that didn't know. [00:08:45] Speaker B: I didn't know. [00:08:45] Speaker A: Well, there you go. The Columbus crew will take on FC Cincinnati in an All Ohio Eastern Conference finals game this Saturday. So pretty exciting that both Ohio teams made it to the conference championship game. The winner of this one will play whoever wins the Western Conference finals between LAFC. And the Houston Dynamo FC. [00:09:07] Speaker B: Is that good? [00:09:07] Speaker A: A lot of FCS. [00:09:09] Speaker C: Hell is real. [00:09:11] Speaker A: It's. [00:09:11] Speaker C: Hell is real week. Are you guys familiar with this? [00:09:14] Speaker B: The sign? [00:09:14] Speaker C: Yeah, the sign. A guy at work was telling me this today. FC, Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew, whenever they play, the rivalry is called Hell. [00:09:22] Speaker B: Is Real next to the sign. [00:09:24] Speaker C: I thought it was neat. I thought I'd plug it in there. [00:09:26] Speaker A: Wow. Incredible. I didn't know. [00:09:28] Speaker C: Yeah, there's a sign on 71, heading south. [00:09:31] Speaker A: Yeah, I know, exactly. [00:09:32] Speaker C: It's been there for like 30 years, apparently. [00:09:34] Speaker A: I know you're talking about. And birds aren't real. That's true. That's a story for another time. But yeah. The winner of that plays this. Whoever wins the Western Conference finals in the 2023 MLS Cup that will take place the following Saturday, which would be December the 9th. [00:09:51] Speaker B: Wait, so is this like the whole MLS? [00:09:53] Speaker A: Yeah. What about Messi? Yeah, they didn't win. [00:09:57] Speaker B: Really? [00:09:58] Speaker C: That's next year. [00:09:59] Speaker A: That's next year. Is there two different MLS? [00:10:01] Speaker C: No, I'm just saying they'll win because Messi's on their team. [00:10:04] Speaker A: He was on their team this year. [00:10:06] Speaker C: Not the whole year, though, right? Didn't he come in like, halfway through? [00:10:08] Speaker A: Yeah, that's true. That's true. They might even made the playoffs. I don't know. [00:10:11] Speaker B: When does soccer season start? [00:10:12] Speaker A: This is how much we know about soccer. We have a whole soccer segment. We know nothing about it. [00:10:16] Speaker C: They literally stopped the soccer season so they can all go back overseas and play. [00:10:20] Speaker A: I know. He was playing for Barcelona again or whatever. [00:10:23] Speaker B: I don't even know how you keep up with soccer. [00:10:25] Speaker A: I don't know. It's hard. I don't personally keep up with it, just to be honest with you. But listen, here's the deal. We'll update you on this one if the Crew make it, because we don't care about Cincinnati, because they're an Armpit, as Kenny would like to call them. [00:10:39] Speaker B: They don't even have their own airport. [00:10:41] Speaker A: Yeah. So Kenny hates Cincinnati. So if Cincinnati wins, this story dies there. But a bonus news story of the week. This week, there's a new strain of swine flu sweeping the globe. Is the next pandemic here? Kenny, I know you eat a lot of pork, so is this going to affect you? [00:10:59] Speaker B: Certainly, if it comes from pork chops. Yeah, I may be a goner. [00:11:04] Speaker A: Yeah, it's going to be over you. So just go ahead and add that to the list of ailments that you have, including Narcolepsy. Now he's gone. We've lost him. We've lost him. But that'll take us to the week. Twelve recap. [00:11:16] Speaker B: I'm here. [00:11:24] Speaker A: Okay, so the Cleveland Browns went to Mile High Stadium and must have been on that Colorado. Good, because they looked awful and got completely dominated by the Denver Broncos in this one. [00:11:33] Speaker B: Look, here's the thing. I'm blaming this whole game on you. [00:11:36] Speaker A: Me? [00:11:36] Speaker B: Yeah, because you've been talking shit about Russell Wilson since he got traded there. About how awful he is, how he's the worst quarterback on the Denver Broncos and let's ride country are the worst, and they're terrible. And they're never going to win a game, ever. [00:11:47] Speaker A: It's my fault. [00:11:48] Speaker B: And now here they are at a four game. We're caught in the middle of it. Blame me. We're caught in the middle of it. [00:11:52] Speaker A: You can blame me. [00:11:54] Speaker B: I do. [00:11:54] Speaker A: It's bullshit. But anyways, the Browns lost this 129 to twelve, which was the first time in NFL history that a game ended 29 to twelve. [00:12:03] Speaker B: Scoragami. [00:12:04] Speaker A: Scoragami? Yeah. I don't know what that means. [00:12:06] Speaker B: That's what they call it when it's the first time our game ends on a score. That's never happened before. [00:12:09] Speaker A: Scoragami. I heard them say it over and over again after the game, but I didn't know what they were talking about. [00:12:14] Speaker B: Scoragami. [00:12:14] Speaker A: But now I know. So let's start, as we always do with our opponents this week. The Denver Broncos will start with their offense and your boy, both your boys, apparently. Russell Wilson. [00:12:25] Speaker B: Look, he's not my boy. [00:12:26] Speaker A: He's your boy. [00:12:27] Speaker B: I'm just saying. [00:12:27] Speaker A: You love Russell Wilson. [00:12:29] Speaker C: Russell still tussles. [00:12:30] Speaker A: Russell does not tussle. [00:12:31] Speaker B: He's washed tussled us. [00:12:32] Speaker A: He tussled us. He was 13 of 22 for 134 yards. [00:12:36] Speaker C: Huge numbers. [00:12:37] Speaker A: Yeah, 13 of 22 for 134 yards. One touchdown, no interceptions. Eleven carries for 34 yards, and another. [00:12:43] Speaker B: Touchdown he put with here's the deal. [00:12:45] Speaker A: Shut your mouth. I'm not done yet. You shut your mouth. [00:12:47] Speaker C: He started in the red zone, like every drive, right? He didn't have a chance. [00:12:50] Speaker A: Exactly. People talking about Russell Wilson's back once again in the post game press coverage and everything. No, look, I know they've won five games in a row and everyone is feeling good over there. No, Russell is so good. The dude threw for 134 yards and he's back. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? 134 yards? [00:13:09] Speaker C: That's all he had to do. [00:13:10] Speaker A: Seriously. [00:13:10] Speaker B: All he had to do. [00:13:12] Speaker A: 134 yards. [00:13:13] Speaker B: Our quarterbacks throw for that every week. [00:13:15] Speaker A: No. Come on, man. Dude, this dude's washed. He's not anywhere near as good as he once was. He looks on the tail end of his career. He looks so sharp. He was 13 of 22. Seriously. [00:13:25] Speaker B: He played within himself and within the game. He did what was asked of him. [00:13:30] Speaker A: Well, again, I say if he played within himself and within the game, and that's what you get out of Russell Wilson. [00:13:36] Speaker B: Did he turn the ball over? [00:13:37] Speaker A: He's washed. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Did he turn the ball over? [00:13:38] Speaker A: He's washed. [00:13:39] Speaker B: Did PJ. Walker turn the ball over in like, ten snaps? [00:13:42] Speaker A: Nobody cares. PJ. Walker is like a fifth string quarterback. Nobody cares. That's the worst comparison. You're comparing Russell Wilson, who people say is a future hall of Famer, which might be the case, I don't know. But at this point in his career, he's washed but still a starter, and you're comparing him? You didn't hear PJ. Walker. [00:14:01] Speaker B: You didn't hear the story that they were talking about where he climbed the mountaintop and asked God why he couldn't be on the top of the mountain anymore. [00:14:06] Speaker A: This is why I hate Russell Wilson. This is why I hate Russell Wilson. [00:14:10] Speaker C: Peaks and valleys. Peaks and valleys. [00:14:12] Speaker A: I hate him. [00:14:13] Speaker B: Moves and counter moves. [00:14:14] Speaker A: Anyways, we'll move on. All right. Giovante Williams, 18 carries, 65 yards, three receptions for six yards. [00:14:22] Speaker B: Here's another back that I would like to have on my team right now. I mean, I love Nick Chubb, right? But if I didn't have Nick Chubb, which I don't, because he's hurt this guy's a beast, man. [00:14:30] Speaker A: Yeah, he's pretty good. Who, Samaja P. Ryan? No. What? [00:14:33] Speaker B: Javante Williams? [00:14:34] Speaker A: Well, because Samaja P. Ryan had the better game. He was seven carries, 55 yards, one touchdown, and then one reception for eleven yards. [00:14:41] Speaker B: Yeah, but he's some IGP Ryan. [00:14:43] Speaker A: That's true. I've been everywhere, man. I've been everywhere. [00:14:47] Speaker B: And I can't start anywhere, man. I can't start anywhere. [00:14:50] Speaker A: Exactly. They're running backs. Overall, I mean, decent day for Williams. P. Ryan was able to get some yards, and he did get the touchdown. But overall, there's nothing crazy good about there. They didn't kill us with the running game. [00:15:08] Speaker B: They didn't kill us at all. [00:15:09] Speaker A: We were a better football team, so we'll move on. Cortland Sutton, three receptions, 61 yards. [00:15:15] Speaker B: The other guy you called out last week, you're like, Coralin Sutton sucks. Let him be the leading receiver in. [00:15:19] Speaker A: The whole game, okay? Three receptions for 61 yards. You champion mediocrity. You think it's the greatest thing ever. [00:15:25] Speaker C: That was half of Russell Wilson's passing. [00:15:27] Speaker B: Exactly. Was he not the leading god? [00:15:29] Speaker A: You guys are just proven my point for me. I don't even have to talk. You guys could run this podcast, and then it would just be a podcast about how bad Russell Wilson Sutton, he. [00:15:37] Speaker B: Was the leading receiver in the entire game. [00:15:39] Speaker A: Great. Our starting quarterback got knocked out in the third quarter. [00:15:43] Speaker B: That's three quarters worth of football that could have played. Okay, we have another quarterback. He came out and played okay. [00:15:52] Speaker A: I hate you. But anyways, yeah. So cortland Sutton. Three receptions, 61 yards. Adam Troutman, one reception for eight yards and a touchdown. That's the only reason he got into this was because he had a touchdown. But yeah, I mean, their offense didn't. [00:16:06] Speaker B: Really and what a touchdown that was. When I saw his ass come down, I was like, yes. He's not even close. [00:16:14] Speaker A: I didn't think it was close either. [00:16:15] Speaker B: The more I watched the replay, I was like, oh, man, that's going to be a touchdown. [00:16:20] Speaker A: Yeah. I could not believe that he got in. As soon as they went to the replay, I was like, there's no way. And then they showed it, and I was like, You've got to be shitting me. [00:16:28] Speaker C: Guys. Got a small butt. Somehow he fitted in. [00:16:30] Speaker A: Got a small butt. [00:16:31] Speaker B: Small butt. [00:16:32] Speaker A: Got a small butt. [00:16:33] Speaker B: I will say this real quick, too. About their receiving. Core Corlin Sutton made Greg Newsom look bad all day, even on those three catches. Made him look bad. Three catches, man, they were big catches. You averaged 20 yards a catch. That's three first downs. [00:16:48] Speaker A: All right, whatever. But anyways, their defense their defense actually played pretty well. But it's not hard when we were playing all, like, a third 4th string offense. But they had four sacks, and they forced three turnovers. It did help that the human turnover PJ. Walker came in relief. [00:17:04] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. He gave them all so. [00:17:07] Speaker A: And then special teams will lutz two for two field goals, three for three extra points. So he is perfect on the day. Great. But that'll take us to Cleveland, the team that counts, even though they lost. We'll start on the offense. Dorian Thompson Robinson, DTR, was 14 of 29 for 134 yards. So, just so you know, in less than three quarters, he had the same amount of passing yards as the seasoned veteran Russell Wilson and future hall of Famer. That is so good. And is back. What say you? [00:17:36] Speaker B: I'll say this. I'll say if ZTR didn't get hurt, he would have had more yards, right? [00:17:41] Speaker A: Yeah, but Russell Wilson's back. He's so good. [00:17:43] Speaker B: All I said was he tussled with us. He beat us. [00:17:47] Speaker A: He didn't beat us. Nobody really beat us. We beat ourselves. Let's be honest. [00:17:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Kevin Stefanski beat us. [00:17:56] Speaker A: We'll get to that. [00:17:57] Speaker B: So, look, I'll just say this about DTR real quick. I mean, hopefully he's on the concussion protocol right now. He got his lips all bloodied up. Was not a nice sight to see your starting quarterback go down that way. No, but night and day, from his first start to these last two starts. [00:18:17] Speaker A: He actually looks pretty good. [00:18:18] Speaker B: His decision making looks good. He looks poised in the pocket. He throws the ball with a lot of zip on it. He was not helped out by a number of drops for the second week in a row. [00:18:27] Speaker A: For second week, jess cannot hold on to the ball. Since he started, I think he had. [00:18:30] Speaker B: Five or six drops. So, I mean, if you add it on to 14 out of 29, you're 20 out, 29. That's a good pretty good half. [00:18:37] Speaker A: And you're probably up over 200 yards and maybe another touchdown. [00:18:40] Speaker B: Yeah, I didn't think that the Browns were in danger of losing this game until he came out. [00:18:46] Speaker A: I agree. But just to round out his stats here, 14 to 29, 134 yards, one touchdown, his first career touchdown. That was a cool moment. No interceptions, five carries for 21 yards. Obviously, as you mentioned, knocked out by the concussion in the second half. But how about these announcers trying to say that this shouldn't be roughing? Like, what the hell? They just kept saying. Well, he hit him in the shoulder. The rule is head and neck area. Clearly in the head and neck area. [00:19:13] Speaker B: And I kept waiting for women to say that because that's how it letter of the law. Head and neck area on a quarterback. [00:19:19] Speaker A: And they kept saying, oh, there's no way this is a penalty. [00:19:21] Speaker C: Dude lunged at the dude's head area. Head and neck, shoulder area. [00:19:25] Speaker A: Yeah, he put his drilled him even on top of the hits, he gave him, like, a forearm shiver to the neck. I don't know how to me, this was clear as day. This was one of the easiest, roughing the passer calls I've ever seen. [00:19:37] Speaker C: They literally got a guy on their team suspended, I think six games now. Two games and now four yeah. For doing the same thing. And I think it was his replacement that was the one who did it. [00:19:47] Speaker A: Clearly, they're teaching us there. [00:19:48] Speaker B: And I just had to say, like, look, I long for the days of football where you could just destroy anyone. [00:19:53] Speaker A: But that was okay. [00:19:54] Speaker B: But that's not the reality of today's NFL. So I could see where you might be upset if you're a Denver Broncos fan, like, this sucks, but these rules are not new. These rules have been around for a while now where they're trying to protect the quarterbacks. We've seen the more egregious ones, I think, are the ones where, like, if a player, if a defensive lineman lands on a quarterback after he's tackled them, those guys have had to adjust 350 pound linemen, have had to figure out how to take their body off of a quarterback while they're falling on them. You just jettisoned yourself into his face and we're like, I don't know what happened. [00:20:28] Speaker A: I don't know why I'm getting a penalty. Yeah, I don't know. But anyways, to your point, DTR, I think he looked good in this one. If his receivers could stop dropping stuff, he'd look a lot better. And like you said, he was composed the entire game, even up to when he got hit. I mean, we were down a couple of scores and he looked fine. [00:20:47] Speaker B: It felt like at that moment, too. [00:20:49] Speaker A: We were coming back before the yeah. [00:20:50] Speaker B: It felt like he was we were going to put some together. You finally have some. [00:20:52] Speaker A: And then they took DTR out and all the wind went out of our sales for, I don't know, the 150th time this season. But yeah. I'll be honest with you guys. I know we just signed Joe Flacco to the practice squad, but I like DTR over a 38 year old Flacco. [00:21:07] Speaker B: 100% the rest of the season. If he's held, he's got to be a starter. [00:21:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:10] Speaker B: Unless he completely collapses down the stretch. [00:21:12] Speaker A: So and I guess we'll get that out of the way real quick. Who starts this week? If he's healthy? I say DTR. [00:21:18] Speaker B: Got to be DTR if he's healthy, right? [00:21:19] Speaker C: I hope it's DTR. He's exciting to watch. I think it's fun watching him play. [00:21:23] Speaker A: And I think that's part of the reason why Joe flacco was. I know it's only initially, but I think that's part of why he was signed to the practice squad and not directly to the know. A little bit of it has to do with bringing him up to speed, but I think it's also like a vote of confidence for DTR from the coaching staff saying, hey, look, you're our guy the rest of the way. We want to continue to develop you, and we like what we've seen out of you so far. [00:21:46] Speaker B: Flacco beat us last year, but he wasn't great. [00:21:49] Speaker A: He's a goddamn jets. [00:21:51] Speaker B: He's three or four years past his prime. He's pretty washed. Look, if Flacco ends up being a starter at some point this season, I'm going to root for him and hope he throws agree. [00:22:01] Speaker A: But and if DGR can't go this week, definitely Joe Flacco. I don't want to see J. Walker touch the field ever again. [00:22:08] Speaker B: No, he never needs to touch the field again. [00:22:09] Speaker A: We don't have a problem with PJ. Walker as a person. PJ. Walker as a football player. Not good. [00:22:14] Speaker B: No. The fact that Kevin Stefanski won football games with that guy is a small miracle on its own. [00:22:18] Speaker E: Oh, yeah. [00:22:19] Speaker A: And so that takes me to PJ. Walker again. The human turnover. He came on in relief for DTR. When he went out, he was six of 13 for 56 yards, zero touchdowns, zero interception, two fumbles, one lost. PJ. Walker is not good. No, he's not good. This guy gets in there and you basically get two play calls, regardless of what the actual play is. You either get him holding onto the ball too long and getting absolutely rocked in the backfield, or he just sends it into triple coverage. It's either a big play or a pick. Nobody knows how it's going to turn out. [00:22:51] Speaker B: Two things on PJ. [00:22:53] Speaker A: Walker. [00:22:56] Speaker B: It's been said on multiple broadcasts that this guy has an absolute rocket arm, which I keep waiting to see at any time. Him to throw an actual seed down the sideline because he hasn't. Even when they put him in to throw the Hail Mary, he came up ten yards short of the end zone. So I'm not sure what these NFL. [00:23:15] Speaker A: Teams rocket arm, my ass scouts are. [00:23:17] Speaker B: Seeing that they are keeping this guy around. Number two, he's not good, but he throws, I guess, was more of a catchable ball. It feels like he does throw him with more touch on his ball. So that's the only thing that I could think that they're looking at going well. He throws a nice spiral on a catchable ball, whereas, like, DTR is like, taking people like taking them out. [00:23:40] Speaker A: Grow up, Peter Pan. We're in the NFL. [00:23:43] Speaker B: Agreed, agreed. But that's the only reason I can think these guys are even interested in PJ. Walker is because he does some nice touch passes, but most of the time they don't go anywhere because he's so inaccurate. [00:23:53] Speaker A: I think they're interested in him because he's somebody that can play football right. [00:23:56] Speaker B: Now, and he's next to free. [00:23:58] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyways, we'll move on to the running backs, Jerome Ford. You mentioned him at the top of the show. Nine carries, 65 yards, four receptions for 14 yards. He had a good game, and he averaged, what was it, 7.2 yards per carry. And it wasn't like it was all on one big, chunk play. His long of the day was 19 yards. And so, I mean, he had a pretty good day, and we didn't want to use him anymore. [00:24:23] Speaker B: He has a great nine carries. [00:24:24] Speaker C: They just stopped giving him the ball. [00:24:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, the thing is, again, I don't know where Stefanski is looking at a game plan going, I have a fifth round rookie quarterback who's in his second or third start. Why are we not developing an offense that takes care of this young rookie, allows him to flourish in making shit? [00:24:45] Speaker A: We threw the ball 29 times in three quarters in less than three quarters. [00:24:49] Speaker B: Less than three quarters with a rookie quarter. [00:24:50] Speaker A: Like what? [00:24:51] Speaker B: They should have run the ball 29. [00:24:53] Speaker A: Times in three quarters to finish that out with the running backs, kareem Hunt, seven carries for 22 yards. So combined between the two of them, they got 16 carries. Now, I will say, granted, DTR did get five carries of his own, so that takes you up to 21. But still, I mean, a lot of DTR's carries weren't design carries. They were just because he got flushed out of the pocket and ran for a few yards. [00:25:17] Speaker B: Unless you're down by that would have. [00:25:18] Speaker A: Been add five passes onto that, you're. [00:25:21] Speaker B: At 34 passes unless you're down by 100. The game plan for your rookie quarterback. [00:25:26] Speaker A: Who run the ball play good defense. [00:25:28] Speaker B: Should be he should throw no more than 20 to 25 passes in the game. If he's throwing more than 25, it's too many. And again, unless you're down by 100, that's all you can do. But this game was competitive. It was close up until the double reverse. [00:25:41] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, the only reason that you don't do that with a rookie is if you have CJ strap. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, if he's a sensational player that's ready for the NFL on day one, sure, but we don't have that. And it took CJ a few weeks to kind of get situated to where he was like but they were also down in a lot of games. [00:25:58] Speaker A: But anyways, we'll move on to the receivers. David and Joku, six receptions, 59 yards, but more drops. I think he had fell off, what, like three in this one? [00:26:06] Speaker B: Dropped another touchdown. [00:26:07] Speaker A: Dropped another touchdown. So, I mean, don't get me wrong, he was still the leading receiver for the Browns, but his tant line should have been huge. He should have had another game that was probably eight, nine receptions, 100 plus yards, and a touchdown. He's just a second week in a row. [00:26:22] Speaker B: Close to being great, but not quite there. He's not there. [00:26:27] Speaker A: To your point, we got a rookie quarterback in there. Give this guy some help. Yeah. [00:26:31] Speaker B: You got to help him out. [00:26:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Next up, Cedric Tillman. I was excited about this. Finally got some looks on the offense. Four receptions for 55 yards. And you guys know why he's starting to get some looks on the offense? It's because him and DTR played high school football together. Still got a connection going. [00:26:51] Speaker B: Yeah, I guess he's familiar with DTR's. Velocity is the important thing. [00:26:56] Speaker A: And then Elijah Moore, three receptions, 44 yards. Amari Cooper, two receptions for 16 yards in the rib injury. [00:27:03] Speaker B: Also had a big drop. [00:27:04] Speaker A: Also had a big drop. Yeah, the two point conversion. And what happened to Amari Cooper? Like, he's disappeared for probably the last two to three weeks in a row. [00:27:12] Speaker B: He was averaging 100 yards a game. [00:27:14] Speaker A: What happened? [00:27:15] Speaker B: He was getting 100 yards a game when PJ. Walker was the quarterback? [00:27:18] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:19] Speaker B: The only guy that could catch a pass. [00:27:21] Speaker A: I don't know. It's just mind boggling how all of a sudden Amari Cooper's just gone, like, just non existent. But it is. [00:27:30] Speaker B: Since we were talking about the hit on DTR, did you think that was a dirty hit? [00:27:37] Speaker A: I don't know. I thought it was when I saw it in real time. I will say that when they showed the replay in slow motion, it actually looked like the guy tried to lift his head up and look at him and actually make a clean hit. And you know how it is in football. You can't always control your head. And his head happened to hit him in the ribs? Same. Like I said, when I saw it full speed, I was like, dude, he just speared him. But he did. He tried to lift his head. He tried to clean it up. [00:28:03] Speaker B: Same thing. When I saw it real time, I was like, damn. But upon watching it on a replay over and over again, I thought it was pretty clean. [00:28:13] Speaker A: At the very last second, you could see again, people that haven't played football. It's really, really hard to control your head when you're going to make a tackle. It's really hard. [00:28:22] Speaker B: Well, not only that, I thought the location was when I first saw it, I thought it was head, neck area, and it was more high torso. [00:28:27] Speaker A: Yeah, it was like upper ribs just below his armpit, which is probably why his ribs hurt. Yeah, but I mean, like I said, at the last second he did, it was almost like he realized, like, oh, shit, I got my head down. I need to pick it up. And trying to protect himself, even. And he lifted his head up and got his I mean, he was looking dead at Amari Cooper when he made contact with him. So not a dirty looked dirty, but it wasn't a dirty hit, but Elijah. [00:28:49] Speaker B: Moore was talking some shit after that. [00:28:52] Speaker A: Do you see the other guy, the safety or whoever it was, come up? He's like it's football, bro. [00:28:56] Speaker B: Get out of here. [00:28:56] Speaker A: Yeah, but anyways, we'll move on to the defensive side. All right. So on the defensive side of things. Not as dominant as we've seen, but it's pretty damn hard to be a dominant defense when the offense turns the ball over so much and you're constantly giving the opponents a short field to work. Mean, that's tough for any defense to uh and now we're dealing with more injuries, including the big one to Miles Garrett. It was announced today that there was no structural damage to his shoulder and that he is day to day. But I just have a bad feeling this is going to be one of those injuries that lingers the rest of the season. It's going to completely derail his Defensive Player of the Year campaign. [00:29:36] Speaker B: What worries me is the fact that it's the same shoulder that he hurt in a car accident last year. [00:29:41] Speaker A: Something might be going on there. [00:29:43] Speaker B: Well, and I said earlier in the season about how he's still wearing a kinetic tape over on that shoulder, so he still got something. [00:29:49] Speaker A: At the time, I thought it might have been like a comfortability. You get comfortable with something, then you don't want to change it. But if his shoulder is injured again and I don't know. [00:29:58] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:29:59] Speaker B: So I think there just might be more there than we know is going on to begin with. And so that could be one of those things, like you said, that lingers. So if Miles geared is playing one armed for the rest of the year. [00:30:08] Speaker A: He looked bad in this game. I'm not saying he looked bad. I'm saying the injury looked bad. He was basically playing with one arm. [00:30:15] Speaker B: Oh, he couldn't even high five teammates on the sidelines. [00:30:17] Speaker A: Yeah, it was so I don't know how there's no structural damage. You can't even hold your arm up. But here we are. [00:30:22] Speaker B: It's not good at all. I will say to your first point that they weren't as dominant as we've seen. I mean, Russell Wilson Hallhan quarterback, threw for 134 yards against him. So they weren't that bad. [00:30:34] Speaker A: It just wasn't. [00:30:37] Speaker B: They got ran on a little more than normal. [00:30:40] Speaker A: Let me say this. I'm not saying that they didn't play good defense. They just gave up a little bit more yards than we're used to seeing out of them. Overall, I thought it was a couple of guys, but again, they're playing at a historic pace. So when they give up like a normal amount of yards or even below average amount of yards, you're like, oh, what happened? [00:30:59] Speaker B: We had some definite problems stopping the run. It looked to me, though, to be schematic, because I agree, it was like the game plan specifically for where they were running the ball. And then Greg Newsom got one thing. [00:31:11] Speaker A: That I will give Russell Wilson is he's good at making checks at the end. And I'm talking more on run plays than pass plays. And he's seeing how the defense is lining up and what we're coming at them with. And I think Russell Wilson did a good job of checking to run plays that exploited different holes in our defense. [00:31:30] Speaker B: Agreed. And I think Greg Newsom got caught a couple of times in man coverage where it was a really interesting from a play calling standpoint to think about if you realize they're in man coverage, these plays that they were getting away with were just deep drags. [00:31:44] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. I will give you this. The one was so bad, he was like ten. All he did was make an end cut and Greg Newsom was gone. He just left him behind. [00:31:56] Speaker B: But they were throwing him all the way across the hash marks. So that is a tough position to be in as a corner, to be one on one against a guy that's now on the other side of the field because you just got to run a long way. [00:32:06] Speaker A: Yeah. I will say this. I think overall, I don't think Greg Newsom played poorly at all. I think he got burned a couple of times, but I think overall he played fairly well. But I think this goes to show you what Zell means to the Browns. When you've got that guy, that's the number one shutdown corner. He takes their best guy no matter what, all the time. A guy like Greg Newsom, who is a borderline Pro Bowl corner, and he's young, but I'm saying he's a borderline Pro Bowl corner. He can go and take that second guy that is not as good as the number one receiver, and he could shut them down all day easy. [00:32:41] Speaker B: True Zell's elite in every sense of the word. [00:32:43] Speaker A: Yeah. So I think that just shows you, like, again, Greg Newsom, very good corner. I don't think he played poorly. I think he could have played a little bit better. But overall, I think it just speaks more to what Zell means to the team on defense. But we'll get back to Miles Garrett here for the defense. He had two tackles, no sacks, did injure his shoulder. Said he heard a pop, but hopefully, hopefully that's okay. And he's going to be back this week. We'll see. [00:33:07] Speaker B: If I sit too long on the toilet, sometimes I hear a pop. [00:33:09] Speaker A: Well, that's fair. I think that's just your left nut. But anyways, next up, J-O-K. Huge game out of J. Okay. Dude was playing his ass off in this one. And we will talk more about J okay here shortly. And then, as we mentioned, the secondary did their thing. Russell Wilson only had 134 yards. They did well. Greg Newsom, I had down here again, we already talked about a little bit, but I had. He had a pretty good game. He got burnt. It was twice. The other one was a shorter reception. I don't think he was really burnt on. [00:33:40] Speaker B: He got burnt twice a couple of times. That was not good. [00:33:43] Speaker A: And then special teams for the Browns, dustin Hopkins. Two for two field goals. Perfect. Again. Bone. Where's the bone meter? [00:33:49] Speaker C: It's the same. He did what he had to do. There wasn't any huge field goals. He kept the ship steady and he did his job. [00:33:56] Speaker A: You're like three quarters chub. Yeah, three quarter chub. Like, he hasn't hit a game winner in a couple of weeks, right? Yeah. [00:34:02] Speaker E: Fair. [00:34:02] Speaker C: Yeah, I've cooled down a little bit. [00:34:04] Speaker B: In one week. [00:34:04] Speaker A: In one week? Yeah. He hit two in a row. [00:34:10] Speaker B: Two field goals now takes him over the 30 mark on the season, on kicks attempted. [00:34:14] Speaker A: Yes. Dustin Hopkins. And we'll talk more about that. [00:34:18] Speaker B: Actually, he's on a pace to kick, like, 50 field goals this year, which probably isn't good. [00:34:23] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll talk more about where he's at here in a minute, but it's. [00:34:27] Speaker B: Getting hot in here. [00:34:28] Speaker A: Okay, so that'll take us to coaching. And I know that we all have a lot to say on this one, so we'll start with Stefanski. And this is what I'll say, two weeks. That's how long it lasted, two weeks. I am returning the Stefanic moniker to him this week because there was too much garbage that I saw in that game that made me lose a lot of respect that had been built up over these last few games in this game. I'm just going to go with the obvious one, the reverse. Why are we running the reverse still? Why? It usually goes for negative 20. This one went for a fumble and a turnover. And they really and it was in a critical point of the game, like we had just been gifted a new set of downs. And I believe it was like a pass interference or something like that. It was right after DTR went out. And what do we do? We run a reverse on our own side of the field and give them the ball, the short field. Why? It's the worst rush defense in the NFL and you're trying to get cute, like, just run the damn ball like a normal person between the tackles, not double reverse whatever the hell they were trying to do. And not only that, it was to Swift, who had not touched the ball the entire game. [00:35:41] Speaker E: Strong. [00:35:43] Speaker A: That's what I said. Pierre Strong. That's what I said. I'm so mad I can't even think straight. [00:35:47] Speaker C: Hey, guys, why is Pierre Strong in the game? [00:35:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it was exactly that. Like, oh, this guy hasn't played the entire game. I wonder what they're going to do with him. I think I'll blow him up for a fumble. [00:35:59] Speaker B: Smartest man in the room. [00:36:01] Speaker A: God damn it. [00:36:02] Speaker B: Here's the thing about this Stefanic reverse. It's not a thing. This Stefanic reverse, he runs the most dangerous reverses of all time because they're. [00:36:11] Speaker A: All pitches and they never work, ever. [00:36:13] Speaker B: What happened to just the good old hand the ball off to the guy next to you as he's running by? [00:36:17] Speaker A: I don't know. And I maintain they never work because even when they do work, they go for nine yards. In my opinion, that's not working. [00:36:24] Speaker B: I'd rather pass the ball and see what happens. [00:36:27] Speaker A: You know who else runs for nine? [00:36:28] Speaker B: Chubb. [00:36:30] Speaker A: Well, yeah. Nick chubb. We don't have him, but pretty much any of your running backs, if you just give him a chance to get going. [00:36:35] Speaker B: Pierre Strong might even run for nine yards. Yeah, give him the ball and just hand it off. [00:36:38] Speaker A: I don't deal. Here's the funny thing. You know what? We didn't see the last two games that we won, and we beat division rivals and really started looking like a team that was not to be trifled with. [00:36:49] Speaker C: Elijah Moore ran regular, just wide receiver routes. [00:36:52] Speaker A: Yes. [00:36:52] Speaker E: And you know what? [00:36:53] Speaker A: We did not run a reverse. Yes, a reverse. Bone man's. So smart. I'm glad we have him on our show. I hate to Fanic. [00:37:03] Speaker B: Look, I'll just go back to this team of seven and four. [00:37:07] Speaker A: I'm getting there. I'm getting there. Look, I was going to say I was going to reel it back in. [00:37:13] Speaker B: I think what happened here, honestly, I. [00:37:14] Speaker A: Am mad, but I'm going to reel it back in. [00:37:16] Speaker B: Here's my honest take on what happened this week. I think Stefanik got caught up in the fact that they had beat both division teams. It was Thanksgiving week. He's at home with his family pride cut practices short. Hey, guys, get out. Go see your family. Everybody's in town. I just think they just loafed it this week. I think it was that's fair thanksgiving week, guys, let's take a little bit of a break. And I think this was the Denver team that's backs against the wall, that couldn't take a break, fair. [00:37:47] Speaker A: This is their chance to get over the hump and get above 500 and be back in the playoff race. [00:37:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, they had to win that game. If they won any chance at the playoffs where we're like, we built a small cushion. It's Thanksgiving week, guys. Go eat your turkey and stuffing. [00:37:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Whether that's right or not, I think you're probably right. And I will say this like I said, as much as I'm angry right now and I'm calling him Stefanic and I'm mad at him, I will say like you said, the team is somehow seven and four at this point in this game alone. Just so you know, there were four fumbles, one of which was his fault, the one we just talked about on the reverse. But the other three fumbles and the dropped passes there's four plus dropped passes may have been a different game without those. I don't know, it may have been a different game if DTR would have just been able to finish the game. [00:38:34] Speaker B: Well, that's the thing. Again, I was still feeling confident even up until that point, that as long as DTR could go. [00:38:40] Speaker A: It was almost like when DTR. Went out, though, that's when Stefanik started his Stefanik bullshit. [00:38:45] Speaker B: He got stupid again. [00:38:46] Speaker A: I feel like let's play high school football, guys. [00:38:48] Speaker B: But he did throw the ball 30 times with the rookie quarterback, right? [00:38:50] Speaker C: And even before that, we had that really nice drive. I think I texted you guys and I said, man, that was a great, one of the best drives we've seen, well balanced DTR. Throwing the ball and handing the ball off. And I feel like after that drive, we had all the momentum in the world. Cooper drops that two point conversion and then the next time we get the ball, I think the defense made him go three and out. I think if I think they did. And then he throws the ball on first down again and again and again. And DTR. Gets killed in the end know. [00:39:21] Speaker A: So for all the bad, I mean, again, I got to reel it in a little bit. And I know Kenny's going to tell us all to just calm the fuck down. But look, we've talked about it multiple times now on this show. The Browns are down multiple offensive linemen, down, a free safety, down, your franchise quarterback, down a generational talent at running back, down a Pro Bowl cornerback, leading the league in turnovers, having an offense that is statistically worse than the one in 15 Browns team. Now you add a generational talent, a defensive end to the injury list that could be lingering the rest of the season. Also add to that injury list a starting wide receiver, your number one wide receiver, and the third quarterback you've turned to this year. And because of that, you may now have to go to a fourth quarterback in just twelve games. [00:40:04] Speaker B: That's a 40 year old. [00:40:06] Speaker A: It's almost four. And somehow, somehow we're still seven and four. [00:40:12] Speaker B: Look, I think sometimes you make a plan and it's the wrong plan. I think Stefanski's plan is the wrong plan. I don't know. [00:40:22] Speaker A: I noticed you keep calling him Stefanski. Is he Stefanski in your eyes still? [00:40:25] Speaker B: He's somewhere in the middle. [00:40:26] Speaker A: He's Stefaniski. [00:40:28] Speaker B: What's frustrating is that I am thinking it's a 32nd rush defense in the league. Run the ball, take care of your young quarterback, give him easy throws and completions and play defense. It shouldn't be that hard. There shouldn't be any more to it. [00:40:43] Speaker A: That's what's frustrating about it. I think that's a big gripe with all Browns fans that are kind of harping on how bad his play calling is, is the fact that he was. [00:40:52] Speaker B: Like, I'm going to shook him, we're going to throw the ball every down. [00:40:54] Speaker A: It just seems like every time we're talking about it. It's because he's trying to outsmart people and it's like it's not hard. It's really not hard sometimes. I agree. We're trying to be Monday morning coaches and act like we have all the answers, and all of a sudden we probably don't. But in this case well, yeah, obviously in this case, though, like you said, they're the worst rushing defense in the league for a reason. Just run the ball against the ball. I don't know. I will say I listed all the injuries and all the adversity that the Browns have faced this year, but the only caveat to this is sometimes I do think that if we had a different head coach, maybe we'd be even better because we wouldn't do some of these dumb things. [00:41:36] Speaker B: A different head coach might be good, but it may be bad, too. I mean, Frank Rich True got fired again. [00:41:43] Speaker A: He's awful. Yeah. Could have Josh McDaniels. [00:41:46] Speaker B: He's the worst McDaniels. Yeah. Who knows? Look, I just think I go back to the last two weeks and I know that to me, that was the season was, can you get through these next two weeks and through these division games? This is the Gauntlet, and they came out on top of both those games. So I can't be too mad over this because it's a Denver team. Like I said, that was desperate to win and you just weren't. And I think that at some point that human element of, like, I don't have to run my fastest, I don't have to hit my hardest, I don't have to do it. Ate every one of them. [00:42:22] Speaker A: I got to say, I'm a little confused by your tactics because usually you're the guy that's like, fucking Browns. [00:42:28] Speaker B: Well, I think I'm also tired of this being like we either are all in or all out on Stefanski every. [00:42:36] Speaker A: That'S how we are as fans, but that's what we do. [00:42:39] Speaker B: You can't just fire head coach week to week because it's a bad play caller. I will say this. What I'm also still frustrated as a Browns fan is that Stefanski needs an offensive coordinator. He can have as much influence over. [00:42:53] Speaker A: The offense as he wants, but he. [00:42:56] Speaker B: Needs an offensive coordinator to call the place. [00:42:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Because he needs to focus on the bigger picture. [00:43:01] Speaker B: He just needs to be the head coach. [00:43:02] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:43:03] Speaker B: Especially when you think about this season and the quarterback character that you've had. You don't think Stefanski, in the ear of a guy like DTR or PJ. Walker when they're struggling, would be more helpful than him. Hmm. If I run this play now, I'm going to see what defense they line up in, and I might be able to run this in three more series once they all have in the same defense. You don't you don't need to strategize that much. Let an OC do that. And you go out there and say, hey, I see this. I like this. Can we call this now? [00:43:29] Speaker A: Right? [00:43:29] Speaker B: That's it. [00:43:30] Speaker A: Right? Because in the end, I mean, you still get to call the play. Ultimately, if you really want to, you call the play. You just don't call every play. [00:43:36] Speaker B: Yeah, you call Alex Van Pell and say, hey, this is a play we're running AVP's like, okay, yeah. [00:43:40] Speaker A: So I'll say this in the end, even though I've returned the name Stefanic to him, because at this very moment, right now, I do not respect him. Them. I also know that they have the record the Browns do with the adversity they face is absolutely remarkable. I think that we can tamp it's, whoever has the momentum at the time you talk about for Coach of the Year, I think we can tamp down those talks for Kevin Stefanski for a little while anyways. They'll have to go on probably another win streak here for him to be back in those conversations. Maybe not. Maybe they just go 500 from here on out and make playoffs and he gets coached the year anyways, because that would still be a feat. But I think overall, if he told me all these injuries were going to happen, the season was going to go the way that it has and we'd be seven and four, I'd be like, Fuck, yes, absolutely. I love the browns. [00:44:30] Speaker B: Let me tell you this, too. You said, Would things be different if we had another coach? What about this thought? [00:44:39] Speaker A: I'm listening. [00:44:41] Speaker B: Deshaun Watson threw seven touchdowns this year before he got hurt. [00:44:44] Speaker A: Okay? [00:44:46] Speaker B: Our friend DTR through his first one this weekend. That's what, eight? [00:44:50] Speaker A: Eight. [00:44:51] Speaker B: PJ. Walker has thrown one nine. Your quarterbacks are combined. Three men make combined total of $250,000,000 annually. If there are nine touchdowns annually. [00:45:06] Speaker A: But we get the gist of what you're saying. [00:45:10] Speaker B: There's a guy down in Tampa Bay, is thrown 17 touchdowns this year. What does 56 points look like in your point differential? [00:45:17] Speaker A: He's also four and seven. [00:45:18] Speaker B: What does 56 points look like in your point differential this year? [00:45:23] Speaker A: I'm just saying, it always comes back to Baker. [00:45:25] Speaker B: 56 points, that's a lot of points. That's enough to win you all the games you lost. [00:45:30] Speaker A: It all comes back to Baker. [00:45:32] Speaker B: I'm just saying. And you threw that away for what? For this? You got a scrappy group and elite defensive team that looks like they want to win, and you are hamstrung at the quarterback position, and you did it to yourself for what? [00:45:45] Speaker E: For the glory. [00:45:47] Speaker A: Glory. Yeah. I wasn't expecting to get into this conversation right now, so I don't have a rebuttal for you. Maybe we'll come back to that. [00:45:53] Speaker B: There's no rebuttal because Bigger has thrown for a thousand more yards and eight more touchdowns than any quarterback on the Browns roster. [00:46:00] Speaker A: I mean, I can't argue that he has done that. [00:46:01] Speaker B: He has done that. [00:46:03] Speaker A: But anyways, we'll move on to Jim Schwartz here. The defense did not look elite in this. They looked good. In my opinion. They looked good. I know we gave 29 points, but it wasn't their fault. The defense looked good, but not elite in this one. But the offense, like I said, the reason they didn't look elite, I think, is because the offense put them in a terrible spot pretty much all day, and the best player on the defense was hurt most of the game. So overall, I think they played a solid game. You can't really blame them for any of this. [00:46:27] Speaker B: Three turnovers puts your defense in a bad position. [00:46:30] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:46:30] Speaker B: Not good anytime they're playing. [00:46:32] Speaker A: Yeah, not good. And then Bubba Ventron special teams looked good as always. So, overall total yards cleveland 269, Denver 294. 1st downs cleveland 19, Denver 17. Time of possession cleveland 20 712. Denver 32 48. Penalties Cleveland eight for 66, denver eight for 71. And the big One turnovers cleveland three, Denver one. So I had some discussion about the game here. I had this in a note last week and just more Cedric Tillman sightings. So, again, it's getting more and more exciting seeing him out there. And you could tell in the time that he's gotten, he has a lot of ability. [00:47:12] Speaker B: He looks like he's ready to go. [00:47:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I like Cedric Tillman. I think he's going to be a big part of the Browns moving forward. [00:47:19] Speaker B: Way more of a part than David Bell. [00:47:21] Speaker A: Listen, that's not fair. To the Venus Fly trap. You don't tell the whole story there. He didn't get a fair crack of things. I like David Bell, but I like Cedric Tillman. [00:47:30] Speaker B: I think it's weird how Stefanski mixes these new young wide receivers into the lineup, because it is weird. Cedric Tillman had a good preseason. He's looked good every time we've seen him play, got a good attitude. He basically said, yeah, he'd like to see more balls his way, but until then, he's going to just look for somebody to hit. [00:47:48] Speaker A: Yeah, fair. And he did that. He's done that. But anyways, another Browns news. With this loss, the Browns chances of making the playoffs have dropped to 68% from 81.7% last week, according to ESPN. We've talked about it already in the episode. But we may be on to our fourth starting quarterback if DTR isn't ready to go by Sunday. And possibly even if he is, if they're trying to kind of protect him, a little bit if he doesn't get a full week of practice in. I wouldn't be surprised if they went with Joe Flacco just for one start. [00:48:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:48:20] Speaker A: From a preparation mean we just keep starting those quarterbacks, baby. Head to the jersey. But who knows the plan here? I mean, I don't really know what they're going to do. I think if he's healthy and he at least gets a couple of days to prepare, even if it's walkthroughs, I think DTR starts. I mean, that's my opinion. [00:48:39] Speaker B: Agree. He's been on the roster all year. So even though he hasn't been starting all year, he has a better feel for the playbook and the offense they want to run. And Stefanski apparently thinks he's deshaun. So he should be good to go. [00:48:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, we're going to throw it 45 times a game. [00:48:51] Speaker B: He's going to do what he would with his normal quarterback. [00:48:53] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:48:53] Speaker B: I'll say this too, about the playoff rankings, making the playoffs. I think it's really simple. Like, I think ten wins get you in. So you're at seven now. You've got the Bears on your schedule still. You've got Cincinnati on your schedule still. You've got La this week, which is a winnable game. And you've got Jacksonville, which is going to be tough. And you've got. [00:49:17] Speaker C: The jets. [00:49:18] Speaker B: The jets, which are kind of like a hodgepodge of like, I don't know what you're going to get week, two weeks with them. [00:49:22] Speaker A: It depends on if Aaron Rodgers comes back. That decision is looming. True. But how he came back from an Achilles that quick is fucking mind boggling. But that's a whole nother story. [00:49:31] Speaker B: But they didn't need Aaron Rodgers to beat us last year. So to like I'm not taking them for granted. [00:49:38] Speaker A: I think their team overall, they don't have it as together as they did last year. [00:49:44] Speaker B: But I just think that there are winnable games out there that this team very easily can go three and three over the rest of the stretch. And it shouldn't be that hard. [00:49:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Robert Salah was keeping receipts last year. This year he's already cashed them in. Yeah, but yeah, I agree. I think we have a really good shot at mean, there's two there's at least two games in there that you have no business losing. [00:50:09] Speaker E: Right. [00:50:10] Speaker A: So that you only got to find one more win. [00:50:13] Speaker B: Who's the other game? There's one more. [00:50:15] Speaker C: Did you say Cincinnati? [00:50:16] Speaker B: Cincinnati was the other win. I have chalked up. There's another one. [00:50:20] Speaker A: You look it up. We'll move on. Dustin Hopkins. [00:50:22] Speaker C: Houston, houston. [00:50:23] Speaker B: Houston. It's going to be a tougher game. [00:50:27] Speaker A: Dustin Hopkins, though, in this one, hit two more field goals. And he's up to 99 points scored this season for the Browns. And we mentioned it last week. And we're going to kind of keep track of this because this is kind of a big story. The single season franchise record for a kicker is 120 points by Phil Dawson in 2007. And the single season franchise record for any player is 126 by Jim Brown in 1965. So he's up to 99 with what is that, six games left to play. [00:50:53] Speaker C: So he needs seven field goals to match Phil. [00:50:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:50:57] Speaker C: That doesn't even count extra points. [00:50:59] Speaker A: Right. So, I mean, I think he's got a good shot at it. So we'll keep tracking this one. We'll track it especially for our boy Bone over here. I know that he's going to break the bone meter. If Dustin Hopkins doesn't break his bone. Yeah. If Dustin Hopkins breaks the franchise record for points, bones definitely going to have he's going to show you longer than. [00:51:20] Speaker B: More than 4 hours. Yeah. [00:51:20] Speaker A: He's going to show you guys why his name is Bone. [00:51:22] Speaker C: Yeah, I got the bar graph on the fridge and I color it in every week. Getting to that 120 mark. [00:51:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Nice. It's an OD thing to do, but you love Dustin Hopkins. [00:51:33] Speaker C: I love Phil, but I want to see that record beat. [00:51:36] Speaker A: Hell yes. But that'll lead us to the burning of a Sportscast Dog of the Week. [00:51:53] Speaker B: Doesn't matter, man. [00:51:54] Speaker E: You got to play tough people in. [00:51:55] Speaker A: The National Football League. [00:51:57] Speaker B: You got to be ready and we. [00:51:58] Speaker A: Got to be the dogs that we are every time we step on there. [00:52:01] Speaker B: On Sunday and be ready to attack. [00:52:03] Speaker D: And don't stop until we're in that locker room. [00:52:07] Speaker A: This week's Burning River sportscast Dog of. [00:52:09] Speaker B: The Week is Jokjok. [00:52:12] Speaker A: Twelve total tackles in this one. Seven solo tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, one QB hit. The dude played his ass off and he only played like 50 snaps. [00:52:22] Speaker B: Yeah, J okay. Is no joke. [00:52:25] Speaker A: I see what you did there. Nice. [00:52:27] Speaker B: He did play around 50 snaps in this game and they have twelve tackles during that time. His presence was felt all day long. This is a guy that I'm so glad that we've seen an emergence from because he kind of was lost in the shuffle in the Joe Woods off or defense, and all of a sudden this guy is starting to make himself a household name in the NFL. [00:52:51] Speaker A: Yeah, Jim Schwartz has absolutely unlocked every ounce of ability in think. I mean, we all knew he was an athlete, but like you're saying, the last regime did not get this out of him. [00:53:04] Speaker B: That sounded sexual. Jim Schwartz has got all the ounces. [00:53:08] Speaker A: Out of, you know, we like to dabble in this show with sexuality, but anyways, J-O-K once again, he was a dog this week. He happened to be the burning of Sportscast Dog of the week. [00:53:23] Speaker B: If I was going to dabble in my sexuality, I would be a Schwartz. [00:53:26] Speaker A: Sexual and that'll lead to the division roundup be down. All right, so starting things off here, the Bengals lost to the Steelers in Cincinnati 16 to ten this week, and the wheels have definitely fallen off for the Bengals. They have no idea what to do with they don't know what to do without Joe Burrow. [00:53:53] Speaker B: They don't have an airport. [00:53:54] Speaker A: They don't have an airport. They suck. They suck. We were all right in this one. We all picked the Steelers to win this game. So yeah, easy win for everybody, I guess. It's not good in the AFC North because the Steelers somehow keep winning games, but yeah, anyways, the Ravens beat the Chargers 20 to ten and are pulling away in the AFC North. I was right in this one. Kenny was wrong and Bone was right. I hate this game. Yeah. So you suck again. But yeah, I mean, the Ravens look good. I hate to say it, but I thought the Browns came in and beat them and everything was going our way. We had all the momentum. And they proceed to win their next two games. The Browns went one on one, but we also lost our starting quarterback, our second quarterback, our defensive end, our cornerback. [00:54:43] Speaker B: Here's, the only equalizer, I think, for the Ravens, and that is Lamar has been healthy all year. [00:54:50] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. As soon as he goes down that. [00:54:52] Speaker B: Team soon as he goes down, that. [00:54:54] Speaker A: Seems average at best without him. So if anything happens to him, their. [00:54:58] Speaker B: Chances are I'm not calling for him to get hurt. [00:55:00] Speaker A: No, we don't want anybody to get hurt. [00:55:03] Speaker B: But if he gets hurt, which he has a history of doing, that's going to change things for them. [00:55:08] Speaker A: Yeah. And then the Browns obviously lost to the Broncos. We were all wrong in that. We all picked the browns. So Broncos country. Let's ride, I guess. I don't know. Before the AFC North, things remain close, but the Ravens are pulling away at the top of the division while a second place finish is neck and neck with the Browns and the Steelers right now. And here's the updated standings. Baltimore's at nine and three, Pittsburgh, and these are in order based on tiebreakers. Baltimore at nine and three in first place, pittsburgh in second place at seven and four. Cleveland in third place at seven and four. And then Cincinnati, we have our first AFC North team falling under 500 in the latter part of the season here at five and six. [00:55:45] Speaker B: But that still puts three AFC North teams in the playoffs. If this season ended today. [00:55:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, it's still the best division in football by far. And for the King of the north, which we'll talk more about later. But the updated records, I am at 20 and 16. Kenny is at 16 and 20, and Bone is at 20 and 16. So with that, let's take a quick trip around the NFL earlier this season. We had Josh McDaniels get fired last week after the Brown Steelers game. Matt Canada got fired, which the Steelers offense promptly went off for over 400 yards against the Bengals this week after they got rid of him. So that was kind of cool. But anyways, not for us because we hate the Steelers. But anyways, we also saw Ken Dorsey get fired recently as the offensive coordinator of the Bills. And it's that season again. [00:56:51] Speaker B: We're starting to see coaches Frank Reich today. [00:56:54] Speaker A: Thank you. It's that season again. We're starting to see coaches lose their jobs. This week, the worst team in the league, the Carolina Panthers, fired Matt Reich after a one in ten start. He didn't even make it through his first season. [00:57:06] Speaker B: Is it Matt Reich? Or is it Frank Reich? [00:57:07] Speaker A: Frank Reich. Matt Reich. Is it Frank? Is it Matt? [00:57:11] Speaker B: I think it's Frank. [00:57:12] Speaker A: I think it's Frank. I think it's Matt. [00:57:14] Speaker B: Because he wasn't good in any nettles either. [00:57:17] Speaker A: I will tell you who it is. It is Frank. My bad, guys. Anyways, Frank Reich got fired today, so it feels bad. How do you not make it through a full season? You don't even get one. You're like, you were worse than we thought. [00:57:29] Speaker B: Mathano Hackett couldn't hack it. [00:57:32] Speaker A: Couldn't hack it. Who's going to be next, guys? You guys got any predictions? [00:57:35] Speaker B: Zabanski. [00:57:37] Speaker A: I don't think so. But seriously, do you guys have any predictions for who's going to be next in this one? [00:57:43] Speaker B: I mean, I think they got the worst ones off the board. [00:57:47] Speaker C: Brian Dable, New York. [00:57:49] Speaker B: Brian Dable. [00:57:49] Speaker A: He's actually probably on the hot seat. I think it might be Sean McDermott, but I don't know. It might not happen till the end of the season. But the Bills are not playing at the level they should be playing at. And if they miss the mean with Josh Allen at quarterback, there's going to be some heads are going to roll. [00:58:08] Speaker B: Here's my hot take. [00:58:09] Speaker A: Josh allen's not that good. [00:58:11] Speaker B: Josh allen's not that good. He's turned the ball over. He's a turnover machine. [00:58:14] Speaker A: He reminds me you know what he seriously reminds me of baker Mayfield. Yes. But no, actually, because he throws for way more yards. He reminds me of James Winston when he was with the Buccaneers a little bit like, yeah, I'll throw for 5000 yards, but I'm also going to throw 30 interceptions in a year. [00:58:29] Speaker B: I mean, since he entered the league in 2018, I think it was most interceptions. He leads the league in interceptions. [00:58:35] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't think that's that hot of a take. I think people were starting to come around to it and starting to realize that the dude's a turnover machine. [00:58:43] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, if he can't take care of the ball, I don't know how you blame that all on Sean McDermott either. So I think that'll be really interesting to watch because I don't think you're wrong. I think there's going to be a lot of pressure and tension there because of that team. The team was a locked to be a Super Bowl contender this year. [00:58:57] Speaker A: Yeah. And just like that, the Bills are right back where we expect them to be. Just a dumpster fire. But anyways, yeah, I don't know. I think there's going to be a lot of turnover with the Bills if they miss the playoffs this year all over the place. Players, coaches, New York. [00:59:16] Speaker B: The Giants and the Bills all having sucky seasons. [00:59:19] Speaker A: I think the jets all kind of get a pass, though, because Aaron Rogers got hurt the first week of the season fair. But the other two teams, yes, there's going to be a lot of turnover, especially if the Bills don't make the playoffs. Next up here justin Jefferson will be returning for the Vikings in Week 14 after the team's buy this week. They've been able to win without him, but he should be a boost coming back, and the team could be dangerous going down the know. I like this year's Vikings because they kind of remind me of the Browns just playing a backup quarterback, which happened to be the Browns backup quarterback at one point, and they just keep winning kind of I kind of like their story. Currently losing to the Bears as we watch Monday Night Football, which is a bad look, but we'll see if Justin Jefferson helps. I will say they've won a lot of games without, um they've won a. [01:00:10] Speaker B: Lot of games without I mean, Cousins even started the year slow. I mean, they went one in four from the mean good on them to battle back and kind of be where they're at in the thick of things and do it with a backup QB. They got a good coaching staff up there. [01:00:26] Speaker A: They do. [01:00:27] Speaker B: So it doesn't surprise me. [01:00:29] Speaker A: They're hovering around 500 right now. They're at six and five coming into the Monday Night Football game. But like I said, they're doing the same thing the Browns are doing. They're just battling injuries. [01:00:39] Speaker B: And what's funny, too, their front office is a bunch of ex Browns guys. [01:00:43] Speaker A: And our front office is a bunch of ex Viking. [01:00:48] Speaker B: It's weird. Bisexuals. [01:00:50] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyways, Travis Kelsey became the fastest tight end to reach 11,000 career receiving yards. That's just wild. 11,000 receiving yards already. [01:01:02] Speaker B: Speaking of Travis Kelsey, I saw an unearthed clip of T. Swift saying she wants to play football in, like, a commercial from, like, five years ago, and she's in the Titans jersey, and she's. [01:01:13] Speaker A: Just like, I want to play football. [01:01:14] Speaker B: She's slapping a guy, and he slaps her, and she's like, dad, I don't like this. [01:01:19] Speaker A: I saw a video of her and Travis Kelsey making out right in front of Taylor Swift's dad, and it was nice. It was nice. Like, who does that? Who makes out in front of somebody's dad? [01:01:29] Speaker B: Did you see I saw also this week the pictures of Travis Kelsey and his brother when they entered the league. [01:01:34] Speaker A: That's my brother. [01:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:36] Speaker A: One of these guys is a finalist for Sexiest Man Alive, and the other one is Taylor Swift's boyfriend. [01:01:43] Speaker B: They both were. [01:01:43] Speaker A: So were just yeah, they've come a long way. We'll just say that. Next up, Bailey Zappi replaced Mac Jones to start the second half of the Patriots game. But really, I just think that they put Bailey Zappy's jersey on Mac Jones because they look exactly the same. You put that graphic up. They do. [01:02:04] Speaker B: They're twins. [01:02:04] Speaker A: Yeah, you put that graphic up last year. But anyways, this was the fourth time this season that Mac Jones has been benched for Bailey Zappi. And every single time, the Patriots have had the exact same tweet and Twitter caught onto it this week. It kind of blew it up. But it just reads, and I quote, bailey Zappy is now in at quarterback. And it's just people have screenshotted it, put it all together. It's just four times this season alone that they've done that to Mac Jones. So it's just kind of funny. [01:02:31] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:02:31] Speaker B: I mean, that little affair is going to end soon. That's another one at the end of the year. [01:02:35] Speaker A: Know whether it's coaching change that might. [01:02:38] Speaker B: Coaching change or I mean, just a quarterback change. I mean, they're going to do something in the offseason because they are trash. [01:02:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:02:46] Speaker B: Maybe they'll get what's his face on the draft and it'll change things. Caleb Williams, maybe. [01:02:50] Speaker A: I think here's a hot take, Caleb. I think I said it last week, actually. Caleb Williams. Bust. [01:02:54] Speaker B: I agree. I don't think he's that good either. [01:02:55] Speaker A: But I think he's going to be a bust. But anyways, next up here, the Rams. Kieran or Kyron Williams. Not sure how to pronounce the name, don't really care. [01:03:03] Speaker C: Kylo Ren. [01:03:04] Speaker A: Kylo Ren. I like that. Kylo Ren williams, who the Browns see this week, resumed his breakout season this week after coming back from an ankle injury. He had a career high 204 scrimmage yards, 16 carries for 143 rushing yards, six catches for 61 yards, and two touchdowns through the two touchdown receptions. So that's going to be somebody we're going to have to try to contain this week because apparently this guy's pretty good. [01:03:30] Speaker B: And they're coming off I don't get the game breakdown. No, they're coming off two games in a row they've won. And Matt Stafford due for four touchdowns in this game. [01:03:40] Speaker A: We'll break that all down here soon. [01:03:42] Speaker C: The last three games, I feel like the opposing teams running backs have destroyed us. [01:03:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:03:47] Speaker C: Going back to, like, Gus Edwards and Keaton Williams. And then was that Warren and Harris? [01:03:51] Speaker B: Yeah, that's true. [01:03:53] Speaker A: I think destroyed is a strong word. [01:03:55] Speaker B: They've been over 100 yards on us. [01:03:58] Speaker A: Like, as a team, compared to how. [01:03:59] Speaker C: The defense started at the beginning of the year. [01:04:02] Speaker B: We were allowing like 38 yards again. [01:04:04] Speaker A: Yeah. I thought you were saying like, a player was over 100 yards. [01:04:06] Speaker B: No, but it's a team. Denver went for like, 158 yards against us or something. [01:04:11] Speaker A: Like I said, it seems like they're coming back down to earth a little bit. But anyways, we'll move on here. Kyler Murray looked like the trash Kyler Murray that we're used to in the game we just talked about against the Rams. He was awful. [01:04:22] Speaker B: They got pummeled, looked terrible. [01:04:24] Speaker A: Marshawn Latimore for the Saints has been placed on IR with an ankle injury. Talk about him because he's the next Ohio State guy and one of the top corners in the league. [01:04:34] Speaker B: You love Marshawn Latimore. [01:04:35] Speaker A: He's pretty good. [01:04:36] Speaker B: All right. [01:04:37] Speaker A: TJ. Watt joins hall of Famer Reggie White as the only players with 90 plus stacks in their first hundred career games. But I bring that up. I hate TJ watt, but I bring that up because Miles Garrett will most likely be joining him very shortly. Miles Garrett is sitting at 87 and a half sacks through 95 games. So he's definitely going to hit the I shouldn't say definitely, but he's mostly yeah, he's most likely going to hit 100 sacks or, I'm sorry, 90 sacks in his first hundred games. [01:05:08] Speaker C: Like Rush Limbaugh with so many sacks. [01:05:10] Speaker B: Half his brain tied behind his back. [01:05:12] Speaker A: They're just sack artists. Next up, jalen hurts. He's really good. He's really good. He led another game winning drive and this time walked it off in overtime against the bills. The eagles now have had four comeback wins in a row in the second half that ties an NFL record. Hertz had five touchdowns in this one. Four of them were in the second half. The eagles are now ten and 110. [01:05:37] Speaker B: And one and how about that kelly green? [01:05:39] Speaker A: Yeah, those uniforms are dope, man. Yeah, the browns white are pretty fire. The browns uniform, their threads all around are pretty fire. [01:05:49] Speaker B: But the only thing that I wish Kelly greener dope had and I don't know why there's so much orange pants. No, I love the orange pants and the brown shirts looks. But the one thing that I wanted forever is just another orange jersey. And there's so much opposition to this that I don't understand. I think the orange jersey was like one of the dopest things the browns ever had. [01:06:08] Speaker A: Yeah, I like the orange jersey. I hope they bring that back. Maybe that'll be next year when know, the white out series was this year. Maybe next year. Orange out series. [01:06:16] Speaker B: Oh, my god. [01:06:17] Speaker A: Let's campaign for it. Can we go orange on orange on orange? [01:06:19] Speaker B: Oh, my god. I would blow a nut. [01:06:22] Speaker A: Oh, wow. Let's not do that then. And during the game, the eagles game, bill's, defensive end shaq Lawson confronted eagles fans and appeared to shove one of them in the stands. Did you guys see this? [01:06:33] Speaker B: Not a good look. [01:06:35] Speaker E: No. [01:06:35] Speaker A: He did come out today and say that they were threatening his family and that was why he did this. But look, this was mid game. He walked from the sideline, like over by the bench area to the stands, started yelling at the fan and then pushed him. I'm just like, what are you doing? I understand. Yeah. That's not right. Do I think fans get a little stupid sometimes and can do some crazy things in the stands? Yeah. But you know what would have been easier and probably would have been the right thing to do is if he waved over a security guy and said, this guy's saying this stuff and they would have just kicked him out of the game. That would have been the end of it. No wanted to go push him. [01:07:10] Speaker E: Yeah. [01:07:11] Speaker A: I don't really know. [01:07:11] Speaker B: Basically nothing good comes from and now. [01:07:14] Speaker A: He'S probably going to be suspended multiple. [01:07:15] Speaker B: Games, interacting with fans in any other way than like if you're going to the tunnel and they got hands out to slap, you slap hands. If you interact any more than that. There's just nothing good comes with that. [01:07:26] Speaker A: No. And then finally, for around the league, around the NFL CJ. Stroud. The CJ. Stroud magic came up just short in their game against the Jaguars and the Texans three game win streak was snapped. But CJ. Stroud did throw for 304 yards and two touchdowns in this one and he now has 3266 yards passing this season, which puts him ahead of Justin Herbert for most passing yards in their first eleven games by a rookie in NFL history. And he also became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 300 yards in four consecutive games. So he continues his, in my opinion, MVP type year, like legitimately if they make the playoffs and his name's not in the MVP race, there's something wrong with the NFL. [01:08:13] Speaker B: What if we wouldn't have traded for Deshaun Watson and just let bigger place into a number one pick and then we drafted CJ. Straud? [01:08:19] Speaker A: I'd have been all right with that. [01:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:22] Speaker A: I mean, I'm not afraid to say that I would much rather have CJ. Straub than Deshaun Watson, but that's a whole other conversation that we won't get into. Not to be outdone, Trevor Lawrence threw for 364 yards for the Jaguars in this game and this looks like it could be like a budding Tom Brady QB rivalry for years to come in the NFL, especially because they're in the same division. [01:08:44] Speaker B: Division is even better because twice a year, every year, brady and Manning only played like 15 times against each other. [01:08:50] Speaker A: Or whatever, but twice a year, every year will be really fun to watch if both these guys continue on the trajectory. [01:08:55] Speaker B: I still can't believe Trevor Lawrence is good, man. I don't know. I mean, the numbers should show that he is, but I just hate that guy. [01:09:04] Speaker A: He's got dumb hair. But anyways, that will conclude our trip around the NFL. Kenny, you want to talk to one of our bros out west? [01:09:11] Speaker B: Of course. [01:09:12] Speaker A: All right, so something that we started this year is our Browns Backers Interview series. And the reason we wanted to do this is to highlight Browns backers from around the country for several reasons. First of all, because they're Browns fans and they're dope as hell and they show up every week, rain or shine, whether the team's winning or losing. No matter what. They show up and watch their team and support them at their viewing locations around the country and around the world. But we also wanted to highlight the fact that something that most people don't know about the Brownsbackers and that's the fact that they do a lot of good work through charity, through community service and those types of things in their respective communities. So with that, let's go ahead and get into the next interview in the series. [01:09:50] Speaker B: I'm excited. [01:10:02] Speaker A: Powered by Riverside Fmackers interview series. We get to chat with John from the Los Angeles Brownsbackers. John, thanks for joining us. How are you today? [01:10:25] Speaker D: It's a pleasure to be here, guys. Go Browns. [01:10:27] Speaker A: Hell yes. Hell yes. And thank you for taking the time. We know everybody's busy, especially with the game being against the Rams this week. I'm sure you got plenty of events to get ready for, which we'll get to soon. But first, tell us about your chapter. [01:10:41] Speaker D: Well, we started 19 years ago. It was just me and my budy Vince Tesmer, and I was walking by him in a bar in Santa Monica that I used to work at, book bands. And I was wearing my birdie COSAR jersey. And I'd go to all these places in La. Sit in the corner by myself, and there was no Browns fans, like, none. And I didn't think there were any out here. But after hearing all the stories of the great southern California Browns, backers of the was really enamored. And I'm just like, I just haven't found my tribe yet, right? So he turns around and goes, kosar sucks. I go, what did you say? And I was ready to scrap and throw down. I just got his face, bro. I'm from Garfield Heights, man. I'm like, oh, you're friendly people. Okay. It's all good. I thought you were some Steelers douchebag or something. Ready to go. [01:11:30] Speaker A: At ease, man. [01:11:32] Speaker D: It was tough because I'd get up early in the morning, go to different venues and just try to find people that wanted to rally around my team. I grew up as a Browns fan. My dad took me as a little kid. I grew up in Parma, so we'd go to training camp. I remember my grandmother taking me to Tri C. And then my parents. And it's just part of the culture that I grew up in. So extending that out here, having that loyalty, that community, that sense of groundness, especially in a big city, was important to me. So we started with three people and we had four different venues. And then fortunately, when I started my own small business, St. Felix, I was able to really curate to where it's at now. And we have about a thousand members in and out from all walks of life, all kinds of different backgrounds, roots in northeastern Ohio. I even have some of my staff that have just become fans because of our passion, our resilience. And it's funny, too, st. Felix Hollywood, when we started, everybody would be like, the browns, the Browns suck, and blah, blah, blah. I'm like, oh, it's next year. Don't worry about it. We're going to come back. Don't you know Brian Syip, Bernie Cos, our Jim Brown? We are the New York Yankees of football. I don't you know, people just thought I was, you know these tough times. Last couple of know, the Steelers bar closed. The Ravens bar closed. The Broncos bar closed. Guess what? The Browns bar is here in the middle of the heart of Hollywood. So we win. And now that the team has taken an know, we're really excited to have such great fans here and more energy and it's nice to have wins. [01:13:19] Speaker A: No, that's obviously, you know, finding kindred spirits as far as browns fans is actually not as hard as people think. Once you really start looking out there, browns fans are pretty much everywhere. [01:13:32] Speaker D: Yeah, I mean we really networked and people would say, hey, they're doing this thing. I mean, it's a lot easier now with social media than when we started out. It was just coming out. We were very aggressive sending emails and anything we could to build people up. And our core group was very special and we still have some people to this day that are part of it and we become family. It's cool. [01:13:58] Speaker B: So with 1000 members, do you have a board of other individuals that help you kind of run events and things or are you doing this all on. [01:14:05] Speaker D: Your oh, that's a good question. A little bit of everything. So I do a lot of it. I do all the social media for the La. Browns backers on all our mediums. And Kevin is the president of the southern California browns backers. Colin Flyn is helping out as the board. We have Jessica and Shannon. It's a loose board. We're in connections with the great guys in San Diego and orange county that have been doing it with us. So we do have like this umbrella of the southern California browns backers that communicate, support each other. Bud in san Francisco is amazing. And Noah in New York who is kind of our offspring, he started off with us. He's going to hate I said that. [01:14:50] Speaker A: But it's my evil. [01:14:52] Speaker D: I'm like Frankenstein of the New York Manhattan Brownsbackers. I love him. He was with us for years and he kind of took what we did to the next level and is very successful. I'm really proud of all his efforts in New York. So I think this core group got together, we became a community, friends, family, extended family and kind of like grew out of that. So it's been special. [01:15:17] Speaker A: No, that's awesome. And to think it all started at least on your end with three people is just fantastic. And so growing into this 1000 person, I know Brownsbackers are famous for it, but are you guys doing any sort of charity work or community service out there? [01:15:37] Speaker D: We do. I have four nonprofits that I work with directly with the browns, with the Cleveland Browns foundation out here in Hollywood. I work with the Hollywood police activities league which is an amazing organization, working with the youth through sports activities to bridge the relationships between youth and a positive relationship with the LAPD. And that's been amazing. It's been really cool through sports activities. So that's one of my preferred nonprofit partners, my friend Jason Hill, the other kid from Akron, which I like to call him, has partnered with Eric Dickerson. He's originally from Akron. He was very close to my cousin, and we kind of became cousins through just being out here. So he runs Eric Dickerson's Foundation Young Warriors. And it's a lot of ex NFL players. I know Bernie and Eric and Joe Hayden. I met TJ. Ward at the last event. Out know Jim Brown was very active in it. It's about mentoring young men with positive experiences through a lot of NFL alumni that are friends with Eric Dickerson. So that's a very worthwhile organization. We like to involve ourselves with maybe a little bit sports related, but making positive impact in our community is very important to us. [01:16:54] Speaker A: Absolutely. And let the other kid from Akron know that we're both from Akron, born and raised and still so my grandmother's. [01:17:02] Speaker D: From Akron, so mad props. [01:17:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Obviously we talked about all the community service work and charity work you're doing is fantastic. I know that the community out there probably appreciates you as well as the Cleveland Browns and all of Cleveland with the work that they do through their foundation as well that you guys are helping with. [01:17:23] Speaker B: We've been saying it all year. I think that's one of those things that overlooked at times is that people think the Browns backers is just kind of this crazy group of Browns fans that gets together and drinks and hollers at the TV. But really they are these groups also have a very civic minded component where you're actually doing a lot of good in your communities, which is great. [01:17:40] Speaker D: We're five tool players. [01:17:42] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:17:43] Speaker D: We do philanthropy, but we're also not. So it's all good. [01:17:46] Speaker A: Exactly. They do get together and drink and party and have fun watching the Browns, but they also give back. [01:17:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:17:54] Speaker D: Last event we had in 20 sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. [01:17:57] Speaker A: No, you're good. Go ahead. [01:17:59] Speaker D: Our last event in 2021, we were able to raise $10,000. [01:18:03] Speaker B: Wow. [01:18:03] Speaker D: And that was a huge amount to four of our nonprofit partners. The other was the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland, which is kevin the president of Southern California Brownsbackers nonprofit partner. So we really spread it out, and I think the organizations were really surprised. They're like, wow, this is a football group that actually donated this amount of money for our event. Basically, our ticket sales cover our costs, and any of the net proceeds go to our nonprofit partners, and we're hoping to achieve that this Saturday. [01:18:33] Speaker A: Nice. [01:18:34] Speaker B: Awesome. [01:18:34] Speaker A: And that's actually a perfect segue. You mentioned this Saturday, and I'm sure you're talking about there's probably some sort of pregame for the Browns game Sunday against the La. Rams, and obviously that's the team in your backyard. So can you tell us. About what events you guys have going on this weekend that you're hosting. [01:18:53] Speaker D: Well, I'm really excited. We're hosting a street festival block party. I'm really trying to do something different. My experience, I moved out here to become a musician. I became very close with the ilty clothing family. I wanted to create this music art street festival that bridged my personal experience from being from Cleveland and our community of people with roots in northeastern Ohio and our football event and the Cream Browns organization coming out. Bernie Kosar is coming out. Slim, that's part of MGK's crew is coming out. [01:19:28] Speaker A: King. Chip. [01:19:29] Speaker E: Chip. [01:19:29] Speaker D: The ripper is coming out. They come to games and hang out. Definitely a family know, we have Eric Metcalf coming. We have Frank Stans. Just call me and tell me some great stories out here. [01:19:42] Speaker A: He's got more for you. I'll tell you that. [01:19:45] Speaker D: He's fun. That was awesome. We also have my friend David Patterson who played for Ohio State all Big Ten that I thought was one of the best defensive tackles. He's going to try to come out. We just keep getting announced. I also have a very special guest. I can't announce that's coming, but I'm very surprised and very honored and happy that they're going to be joining us on that Saturday. So I have an orange carpet set up instead of a red carpet because I wanted to make it very Hollywood. And I'll have a step and repeat and Chomps is going to be on the orange carpet taking pictures with people. So we're making it very Hollywood but very Cleveland centric. Glenn Infante from Ilti. He's a friend. He's also from Parma and he helped co design a football that was like trying to bridge the artistic gap between the map of Cleveland, the map of La. So we're really trying to take it to another level. Culturally, I think it's cool. Our friend EB is going to Spin, who does a lot of DJ gigs in Cleveland and all the great clubs out there. And we're really fortunate that everyone agreed to come out, participate and get the word out. My friend DJ Meal, he's got a party going on that Sunday night, too. So we're all helping each other know, getting the word out that we're out here and we're putting our brown and orange flag in the heart of Hollywood in the Vinyl district and we're here to represent. And I will tell, you know, shutting down a street in the middle of Hollywood, it's no joke. But I used a lot of my cred and clout and really made it happen. And I think people are really going to have the best fan experience that they've had out here. It's just going to be next level. So I'm really happy. And Glenn is actually going to do a live painting of an honor to Jim Brown, if you've ever seen his work at also he printed that beautiful mural of Prince eating a doughnut over on the bridge down there. That's one of his works that I got turned on to right out the gate. Obviously, he's gone on to great things, but he's going to paint a live mural on stage. We're going to have the players meet and greets, signing autographs. It's going to be really cool, man. It's going to be a lot of fun in the heart of Hollywood. [01:21:59] Speaker A: Yeah, this honestly sounds I mean, we've done a number of these throughout the season, and a lot of these groups obviously host parties as the Browns come and visit their cities. But I'll be honest with you, this is by far the biggest party we've heard of all season. [01:22:15] Speaker B: Everything about it is so thoughtful. [01:22:18] Speaker D: I'm excited, too, because we did this in 2021 and we really got a great turnout. But having like, Bernie Kosar and all these guys coming out here, COSAR Wellness, he wants to talk about his journey through healing. And he has a mission and he's very passionate about COSAR Wellness team will be out here talking to fans. He's an amazing person. We become friends. And when they say, don't meet your heroes, that's not true, man. When they're the real deal, it's the real deal. So it's you know, I've been throwing events in Hollywood at St. Felix Hollywood here for years. A lot of A list events, movie premieres, film. But like, for me, this comes full circle because my roots are from Cleveland. I think if I didn't come from there, we would have folded during the know. I think having that resilience, that blue collar work ethic is really important. That's why St. Felix is still here. So doing a Hollywood style event on this scale is going to be really special for me, my friends and our extended family and all the Browns fans from all over the world. I got fans from Australia, England, Canada, all over the United States coming for this. So this is going to be a real big event. And I'm really happy. And to be honest, I've had a lot of A list stars here. A lot. Anybody you think of, we've had here out of St. Felix. But for me, having Eric Metcalf and Bernie COSAR are way more important. Everyone explained to me, they're like, you're more geeked out than this, this and this person. I'm like, dude, you don't understand. [01:24:00] Speaker B: For sure. [01:24:01] Speaker A: We can't blame you there. I mean, like you said, it's is I will say, by all accounts, everybody that I've ever talked to that's met Bernie has said what a great guy he is. So to your point, definitely, if they're the real deal, then they are the real deal. [01:24:18] Speaker B: John, let me ask. [01:24:23] Speaker D: Say I'm sorry, I just want to drop a couple of names. That kind of important, too, to where we got to when we started this. I always was hoping that we would get some of the Browns players interact with us. And my first connection was with Larry Abel, who actually works at Crypto, has worked with the Lakers and a lot of teams over the years. He's actually from Cleveland and he worked for the Indians Guardians, and he introduced me to Herman Fontno and we became friends. And then through that, over the years, I've been able to meet a lot of players from that team. Webster Slaughter's been here. I became friends with Eric Metcalf. I mean, just genuinely good people that you want to interact with. So I think when the fans are out here, they're going to be really happy. I even called Fair Hooker, who was a wide receiver. He lives out here. He came last time. Hopefully he can join us this time. It's really great having that interaction, hearing the stories of their experiences and stuff. It's really worthwhile and really cool. [01:25:27] Speaker B: Yeah, for sure. Let me ask you sorry. So is that your daytime job? Did you coordinate events and run big events like this? Is that what you do? [01:25:36] Speaker D: I'm the owner of Felix Hollywood. And before this, I helped build the Monster energy drink brand. I was like, one of the first people hired out the gate, and I stayed with them and left on really good terms. They're actually one of our they're going to be here sampling. Tim Drail, who does the Monster Energy program, is from Cleveland, so I have a lot of really deep connections with them. So I did events for Monster Energy Drink. I worked for Kevin Berg and Associates doing events at the Viper Room with Johnny Depp and go down the line, the Troubadour, the Magleri family at the Whiskey Ago go to the East Side, to a lot of up and coming artists and great bar, restaurants, clubs and trends. I've seen it all. [01:26:21] Speaker B: Wow. [01:26:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:26:22] Speaker D: I'm just thinking background, and we're actually opening up a st helix in Las Vegas this year, so I'm really excited to finally be spreading it out there. But I am the owner, so I've thrown thousands of events over the years. So this is sort of my I don't know, my epic one. Very personal for me, for sure. [01:26:45] Speaker B: No congratulations on all the success today. That's awesome. [01:26:47] Speaker A: That's quite the resume. [01:26:49] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I'm just thinking, like you said, it's hard to close a street in La. I'm like, yeah, it would be hard to do that. You probably had to go not for John in advance and get like, not. [01:26:57] Speaker A: For John, it's not. [01:26:58] Speaker B: I'm trying to think, like, the skill set it takes to manage a group of a thousand people and get the types of people, the names at an event like it's but it comes naturally to you, I guess, because that's what you do. [01:27:08] Speaker A: If anyone can get it done, John can. My new best friend, John, he knows everybody in the world. [01:27:13] Speaker B: I know. [01:27:14] Speaker A: Next time I'm in La. I'm telling you. [01:27:17] Speaker D: I got some pull of Bartleby down by Ohio City and in Hollywood. So I got you at either of those. I'm just I gotta say, the process of shutting down the street is an immense task. I mean, I had La. Street Services, la. Department of Transportation, la. Fire Department. I have an excellent relationship with the LAPD. The Hollywood Business Improvement district. I'm on the executive board of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. I had to basically bring all of that together. I just got our permit approved by the Know. We run a very tight ship here, and I think it's through experience resilience. St. Felix hollywood's been here for over a decade and we've seen everything. And we're an anchor now in an institution here in La. And you know, it's funny, we're not a sports bar. We're just more of a lounge with great food. And people are like, oh, you're doing your Browns thing. I'm like, yes, my Browns thing is happening. It's never going away. And we also do stuff for the Ohio State games because I am a graduate of the Ohio State University. Those are the only two real sports things we do. Unless the Cavs are in the playoffs, the Guardians are in the playoffs. Any Cleveland sports centric things we do still to this day. The biggest selling thing we ever had was 2016, game seven. It was crazy. I had people climbing over the gate. I think we had way too many people here. And it was the best experience we ever had. [01:28:55] Speaker B: Wait, game seven for the Cavs or the Indians or the Guardians? [01:28:59] Speaker D: Oh, we did both. [01:29:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:29:02] Speaker D: One had a very good ending. And I was actually at game seven in Cleveland with my father. And that was not that. [01:29:12] Speaker A: But I'm. [01:29:13] Speaker D: Blaming it on the rain. [01:29:15] Speaker B: It was a rain delay, for sure. [01:29:16] Speaker A: Conspiracy. It's a conspiracy. No, but I will tell you, you said you guys were packed for game seven for the Cavs. You guys out there in all of Cleveland, because that's where I was, was downtown Cleveland. And you could not move on those streets and those bars and those restaurants anywhere. It was insane. And as soon as it was apparent that they were going to win, as the clock was ticking out, the whole entire city, and I'm sure it was the same way out there, just erupted. So it was awesome. [01:29:47] Speaker D: They heard us from block away. [01:29:51] Speaker A: Yeah, which is crazy. [01:29:53] Speaker D: We're in the middle. There's sirens every 5 seconds in Hollywood, so we're know the loudest scream we ever had here was that. And the second we had an Oscars party here and it was for Undefeated, that football movie that P. Diddy did. And it's so funny because they hit us up three days before and we had another short film that was supposed to win the Oscar, actually screw us and bail out. And Undefeated hit us up and they're like, can you fit us in? And we did and they won the Oscar. It was so amazing and they were a long shot and they brought the Oscars in here. I got my picture taken with one. Those things are heavy, bro. But I think that the Cavs winning game seven was louder than winning an Oscar. And we didn't even win the Oscar. [01:30:46] Speaker A: Those are amazing story. That's one of my fondest memories as far as Cleveland sports is obviously the championship with the Cavs. But it sounds like your guys'event is going to be massive there. It sounds like that event is going to be absolutely massive this Saturday for you guys. And I'm sure you could probably fill us in on all the details. That could take us a really long time. But I do want to move forward a little bit here. I do want to talk about some football before we have to get off of the call here. But real quick, what are your thoughts? We'll start with the game this past week against the Broncos. What are your thoughts on this last game and how do you think after that? How do you think the Browns have looked so far this season? [01:31:32] Speaker D: I think Denver's always a trap name. It always is. Challenge. I don't know if it's the air. I've been to Aspen, man, that air is thin and it's tough. I don't know if it's just from my childhood in Elway or whatever, but Denver always trips me out. I think it's a challenge. I think that the injuries are devastating. It's the NFL. Luckily I think we have a lot of depth. But at some point I got nervous because there was nobody behind our like as a backup. Joe Flacco was in street clothes. I was super concerned. I was just like, oh, man, what happens if he gets knocked? [01:32:18] Speaker A: Think and there's a good chance that PJ. Walker likes to hold the so yeah. [01:32:23] Speaker D: I think that the team is overachieving. They're trying. They're fighting. I love that. I love that they have a dog mentality like we did when I was a kid, like Hanford Dixon led teams. It's just like we're going to win. They have that attitude of winning and over. I love that. I love that team component. I think I always feel even whoever's a starting quarterback, we still have a chance to win. When you have that group and they're pushing and all these great plays you've seen where everyone just is willing themselves to win, that's just awesome as a fan to watch because there's been so many times, especially in professional sports, where people just give up. They don't really have that dog in them. And I think we have that team. It was a disappointing loss. I really didn't like the reverse call. I thought that was cute. I don't like too cute sometimes, especially. [01:33:22] Speaker A: In that situation in the offense. [01:33:25] Speaker D: But I also think at some point you got to play smash mouth football and go down. And I would like to see Kareem Hunt used more at. Sometimes I figure he's used too late or too little. I think he's got a dog mentality. He's a very passionate runner, and I love watching him play. So I just think that I hope the Bronze can get those fundamentals down. I hope Miles Garrett's okay because he's the heart and soul. He's playing out of body this year. And that defense, schwartz is awesome. He's just taking it to the next level. I was always scared watching our defense. Now I'm kind of excited. [01:34:05] Speaker A: I think that hasn't happened. You look forward to them being on. [01:34:07] Speaker D: The field, I think, since, you know yeah. And maybe Sean Rogers when he block a field goal or something. But besides that, I don't really have many defensive things. I mean, I love Joe Hayden when he played, but I'm talking as a unit, as a like he was a star, but having a real complete unit on one page. I hope we can get over these injuries, man. [01:34:32] Speaker A: Yeah. And you mentioned a couple of things there. The first thing is wanting to see Cream Hunt more. I mean, we've said that throughout the year on the show. In my opinion, they're trying real hard to make Jerome Ford work. And I don't think he's a bad player by any means. I just don't know if he's the feature back that they all think he is. And then yeah, you mentioned the reverse, and we make fun of Stefanski's reverses. [01:34:55] Speaker B: Pretty much weekly because he runs them weekly. [01:34:57] Speaker A: Yeah, almost every week we run a reverse for negative 20 yards. This time it was a fumble and turnover. But it is what it is, really. [01:35:04] Speaker D: Even on the coach. Like, I saw even the 49 Ers game. My boxy trainer, world champion Jose Navarro, he's so passionate about the 49 Ers, and I pulled for his team, he pulls for us. And he's got that Kyle Shanahan mentality where it's very analytics, it's very creative, and that can be special, but at some point, you just got a smash mouth. You know, I understand analytics, but there is a human component. When you have the balance of human and analytics, it's the best of both worlds when you're all or one. I think he's done a better job this year in general, play calling, but that was a tough one, I got to say. That was a momentum shifter in a tough. [01:35:48] Speaker B: Well said. [01:35:48] Speaker A: And I know you mentioned the injuries as well and how they're starting to pile up. I mean, obviously the Nick Chubb injury was a huge blow earlier in the season. We then had the Watson injury. Luckily, Miles Garrett, they did come out today and say that it was not structural. There's no serious damage. He is day to day. But I mean, what are the feelings within your chapter surrounding these injuries? Like, what was your reactions, and how do you think the Browns I mean, you kind of mentioned it, they're battling through, but kind of what was the feeling in the room as these things unfolded with you guys? [01:36:22] Speaker D: I think it's tough because I think the team like I said, it's almost that next man up mentality is taken very seriously. And that's good coaching, and that's good focus, and that's good ethic, that's good culture, and I think it's great that the coaches and the organization have that focus now. So I think people are concerned, and they're like, screaming at a TV, get up. Are you okay? There's that element, but then it's a plug and play kind of scene that we do know DTR. He's a know my my buddies out here that went to UCLA and followed them. They're big. You know, hopefully he's okay and he gets back into you know, of course people are concerned. I mean, the Chubb thing was devastating. That really set. He's the heart and soul of that offense, our team, his work ethic, his just vibes is just so permeating through our organization that we love. And then Deshaun going down, that was really difficult. We went through that with Baker, right? With the shoulder. I just remember, like, I talked about my trainer, world champion, he was an Olympian. And when I told him what happened to Baker Mayfield, he's like, oh, dude, he's not going to be able to play. I'm like oh, no. They said he goes, no, John, that injury that you're telling me, he's not going to be able to throw, and he was completely spot on. So when Deshaun Watson had that shoulder injury, the shoulders are very know. It's like the complicated you know, there's a lot of complexity to was just that hurt. But I think this team is rallying around the culture that they've instilled, and it's inspiring. It's fun to watch. So let's win in La. This week, right? [01:38:12] Speaker A: Exactly. [01:38:13] Speaker D: We know the Rams fans. [01:38:18] Speaker A: That kind of brings up a good point, John. So let's go ahead and look to this week. First of all, what are they saying locally about the Rams? Obviously, you said they're Fickle fans. So, I mean, do they even talk that much about the Rams? Are they high on the team? Low on the team? What are they saying over you know. [01:38:36] Speaker D: When I was a kid, the Rams were my second favorite team. I really like Derek Dickerson, and then I got to meet him personally. He's a great guy, and his organization is amazing. With Jason Young Warriors, you don't hear really there's Rams fans, there's Chargers fans, but people seem more passionate about college football on a regular basis here. And the Lakers. This is a Lakers town. The Dodgers. La. Is just so massive. So I don't really listen to a lot of La. Sports shows. I listen to, like, anytime Terry Pluto comes on, I'm listening to him. I'm listening to you guys. I'm listening to teams that I care about. I love Ken Carmen and Tony Lima. I think they're great. Their takes. Ken's really entertaining, but like, Terry Pluto is my all time favorite. Anytime Mary Kay's talking, I want to hear what Mary Kay's take is. My friend Holly has a podcast. [01:39:41] Speaker A: She does. [01:39:41] Speaker D: So I listen to her. You know, my sources are your sources. But as far as La. In a bar, nobody's talking. It's not ingrained. Like the culture is. [01:39:55] Speaker A: The fan bases are probably I mean, just in general couldn't be further from each other. I would say no. [01:40:02] Speaker D: Even when I went to the Stanley Cup, when I watched the Kings win the Stanley Cup, it was like, oh, that's. [01:40:13] Speaker B: Good. When they won the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, was there even a parade down there? [01:40:19] Speaker D: No. [01:40:21] Speaker A: Maybe. I don't even know. Nobody even knows if the Browns won the Super Bowl. It'd be the biggest parade in the history of parades. [01:40:30] Speaker D: I just loved when the Browns I mean, the Cabs won 2016. There were no incidents. Everyone was still in shock. It was like peaceful and vibey and beautiful cars were not being overturned. I know when the Lakers won here one year, people were spinning out. It was like the Fast and the Furious downtown. And I'm like, is Vin Diesel going to jump through my windshield and start being like all crazy? I'm like, I'm out. I am not going downtown. Good job, guys. [01:41:02] Speaker A: I guess with all that being said and the difference in the fan bases and the fact that nobody even cares about the La. Rams, they're kind of middle of the road this year. [01:41:12] Speaker D: I shouldn't say it. People do care. I don't think it's to the level of our culture where it permeates the city. Right. The Browns fandom, when I was a kid, my dad took me when I was a couple months old and my mom was upset. And it just becomes part of your culture. I remember my budy Colin Flyn, that's part of our know. We were know outside in Parma on our know, a dog with throwing nerf football, sticking where you know, and I don't you don't get that as much here. I think kids are surfing or doing extreme sports, and if they go to a Rams game, it's like, oh, that's cool, but there are some superfans out here. It's just not to the level of fair. [01:41:57] Speaker A: That's fair. So I'll walk it back a little bit. There's not as many diehard fans as the Cleveland Browns. But with all that being said, what are your thoughts on the Week 13 matchup with the Rams and how do you think the Browns will fare? [01:42:12] Speaker D: I think it all goes around Miles Garrett, if he's good to go and Denzel comes. I think Denzel was missed this past game. I think he's an impact player. He's just shown so much toughness. He is a shutdown corner and I think that compliment of having him and Greg Newsom is just awesome. But you have to kind of have that leadership. He's a leader out in the defensive backfield. Miles is a leader. He's a centerpiece. When you have two centerpieces gone, you're going to have next man up. But you do need that kind of respect, that force, that glue to keep people together. I think if they come back, we have a great shot. I think Flacco will be interesting. I hope we don't just hand off the ball and get creative. I mean, if he can air it out a little bit, let him air it out. I mean, he aired it out against us. I still can't believe he's on the team. I got to be honest. It's crazy. [01:43:12] Speaker A: It is a weird feeling. [01:43:13] Speaker D: Brown and orange is like, I don't know, it's like a fever dream or something. [01:43:18] Speaker A: Doesn't make any sense at all. [01:43:21] Speaker D: But air it out a little bit. I mean, if Amari Cooper is back, what a great wide receiver, what a great pickup that the organization did with that. I just think he's amazing. I think sometimes he's underutilized. So I'd love to see him out there. I'd love to see more screen passes to, you know, if we get that kind of mojo going. I will tell you out here in Hollywood and La. After we throw this party out here Saturday, man, we are going to be so hyped up. That team is going to feel like they're in a home stadium and I'm not making that up. Like literally, we are going to be about 70% of that crowd. When we did the Chargers game in 2019, I think it was 80 20, maybe 90 ten. And that was a funny game because the Chargers weren't that great that year. And I live in a building here in Hollywood where there's a lot of influencers and I recognize the people from my building because they have millions of followers and all this. I saw them on the field, like videoing as part of a marketing promotion to try to get more Chargers fans there. And I'm like, wow, look, it should have just had us out know, and just did something about the Browns because we're outnumbering the Chargers fans, like literally like eight to one or something. It was. [01:44:39] Speaker A: As far as the game, it sounds like you think the Browns have a pretty good shot, especially people are coming back from injuries. But I know it's tough because of the injuries but do you have a score prediction for this game? [01:44:50] Speaker D: Oh, I'm not good at numbers like that. I'm a moneyline guy. I'm like the most conservative. Just I think this team's going to like I don't know, how about if Miles Garrett just for fun, just because you guys are my boys. Let's do this. Let's say a safety happens if Miles is back, a real safety and they're actually going to call it this time properly. [01:45:21] Speaker A: Nice. [01:45:21] Speaker B: Love it. [01:45:22] Speaker D: Because we're there representing. [01:45:24] Speaker A: That's pretty bold. You could take that to yeah, that is a good prop. [01:45:28] Speaker D: I'm going to say what would be a safety? Let's say 23 to 17. Why not? Let's go Psype. Let's give them a Psype number and then we'll go 20 317. Don't hold me to it. I'm a moneyline guy. I'm just going brown. [01:45:46] Speaker B: That's fair. [01:45:48] Speaker A: That's fair. Now, before we get going, John, I do want to mention that we are brought to you by who? [01:45:53] Speaker B: Kenny Seaside Events is the official partner of the Cleveland Browns for the Cleveland Browns Fan Cruise. [01:45:58] Speaker A: Yeah. And so with that in mind, I just want to say that the Browns Fan Cruise did run a competition for the Brownsbackers. However, it is over. The winners will be announced soon. However, we still want to say that we will be McGing several events aboard the ship on the Browns Fan Cruise in March of 2024, and there will be 17 alumni joining us on that cruise that the fans get to mingle with. Kind of like they're normal people and just get to hear their stories and talk to them and tell them stories of when they went to the games. So for anyone that hasn't booked yet, please do so because it's going to be a fantastic time. Like I said, we'll be MCG, I think three, four, five different events, something. [01:46:37] Speaker B: Like that changes daily. [01:46:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:46:39] Speaker B: Still cabins available. Get your tickets, I think through the end of the month, within November. There's still 60 day payment plans available, so a couple of days left on that. But yeah, still cabins available for anybody who wants to go. I know there's a ton of Browns backers already on board, but the more of them the better. [01:46:54] Speaker A: Yeah, that's good. Are you going or do you know anybody within your guys'chapter that's going? [01:47:01] Speaker D: No, but I saw some of the players that are going. I saw, I think Webster's going and Eric's going. And those guys are awesome, man. And Webster is a great guy. He came out here visiting family and he hung out with us. He's great. The fans are going to have such a great interaction with you guys. And the players that are going, they're all cool. [01:47:23] Speaker E: Yeah. [01:47:23] Speaker A: And the two that you just mentioned, we've actually done interviews with. So it's another thing you could check out from us. We have interviews that we've done and continue to do with all of the alumni that will be joining the Browns fan crew. So those are on our YouTube page. But one final question I did have for you here, John. Is there anything else that you'd like to say to Cleveland fans that maybe have moved away from Northeast Ohio, are missing their fellow Browns fans and are potentially thinking about joining a Brownsbackers group so they can have that kind of camaraderie again? Just do it. [01:47:55] Speaker D: Because if you have. Friends. They may get into the passion as infectious. Like my staff became browns fans, they're just like, you guys are nuts. Fun and loyal and we're entertaining the team's entertaining the culture is entertaining. There's nothing like being a Browns fan and all our follies, all our achievements that happen and someday we're going to win the super bowl. Hopefully it's this year. You never know. I mean, this has been a wild year. I think a lot of teams have dealt with injuries, but find a chapter, find an organization. Interact with people from your hometown. You have shared life experiences. You have grounded belief systems. You need that support. You're going to find friends. We have so many people that have become, you know, brought family members when they're visiting out of town. Even like my friend Jim turner brings his family every thanksgiving. They thank me. They're like, oh, this feels like such a great Cleveland experience. And some people even joke with me. It's like, I wish you were actually in Cleveland. You throw a better Cleveland bar than some of the places we go to. My ego is not that big. I'm not going to say that's true or not, but I do work extra hard to make it special. So I think just engage. I think it's great. Start your own chapter. Corey at the brownsbackers that runs it's an awesome guy. Every year they bring all the Browns backer presidents to training camp and you get to have an interaction with JW. And his team and we got to meet Joe Thomas this year and the year before was it's great. You get to feel like you're really part of something special and I think know, just taking that sense of community and just don't be afraid. Just go do it. You're going to meet great people. You're going to network with cool people and genuine people. And I think that's what's important. [01:49:59] Speaker A: Absolutely. [01:50:00] Speaker B: Well said. Did have one final thing here before we get off. We do have a bit that we like to do on our show called the burning river sportscast hot take hotline. We do have a voicemail box that is set up for Browns fans that are angry, excited, happy. Any of the emotions you can think of? [01:50:17] Speaker A: All of the above at once. [01:50:18] Speaker B: Before the game? During the game, after the game. Just kind of a therapeutic place to kind of go share your thoughts and then we like to take them and then share them on our show so we can point to Browns fans all over the country and some of the things that they're thinking. Like I said before during, after the game. So if that's something you would share with your group, we would greatly appreciate it. [01:50:36] Speaker A: And the number for that and we'll have it on the screen during the interview, but it's 330-2278. Call us. Like Kenny said, just leave us a voicemail and if we like it, we're going to put it on the air and we're going to talk about it. [01:50:51] Speaker D: Well, it is Hollywood. I will definitely share it, but just be prepared. I'll tell them to try to do PG 13. [01:51:00] Speaker A: They don't have to. We're a podcast. We don't get censored. Yeah, we're good. [01:51:04] Speaker D: You guys got to realize I got to get up like seven, eight in the morning to get this thing set up because the game is on at 10:00 A.m. [01:51:12] Speaker E: Here. [01:51:13] Speaker D: So people are having a good time. So yeah, you know what, at least we'll entertain you with our calls. I'll make sure that the group gets it in there. [01:51:22] Speaker B: We would love nothing. [01:51:24] Speaker A: And so, John, once again, it has been absolutely amazing having you. This has been one of the more entertaining interviews we've done all year. It was fantastic. Lots of great stories. I can't wait to hear about your huge party on Saturday. And again, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to be on the Burning River Sports cast. [01:51:46] Speaker D: Thank you guys so much for inviting me. I love talking about the Browns. I love talking about St. Felix. I'm really excited about this event Saturday. I think it's a full circle for us and having Bernie and the guys coming in, the organization chomps all these great musicians, all these artists. We're having a big party with DJ EV in the evening. It's going to be all encompassing and all in one. And I really appreciate your time. It was great to meet you guys. I hope to have some beers with you when I'm back home. And go Browns. [01:52:20] Speaker A: Hell yes. Give us a call. We'll be there. [01:52:22] Speaker D: All right. [01:52:24] Speaker A: All right. Thanks, John. [01:52:37] Speaker D: We're the la. Hollywood browns backers. You're listening to Burning River Sportscast. [01:52:41] Speaker A: Go Browns. Man, John has some stories and he's putting on one hell of a party this weekend. [01:53:03] Speaker B: Tell you what, I wish we could. [01:53:06] Speaker A: Get out to La. I mean, that's pretty far. We got families. We're both in financial ruin right now. I'm moving. You just renovated your entire house. So I don't think it's in the cards, but that would be dope ass to get out there. [01:53:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that sounds like a hell of a party. [01:53:22] Speaker A: The lineup that he was talking about, just wild. The people that are going to be. [01:53:25] Speaker B: There and sounds like he's got some more stuff on the way that it's going to be exciting to hear. Mean, look, we've met some really interesting people just through this Brown Packer series. I mean, it's one thing to talk to the alumni and the players and give their thoughts and feelings around the league and how they got to the league. Some of these guys, man, I mean, this guy is involved in a ton of shit. [01:53:47] Speaker A: He just kept reeling more stuff. He was involved. He's like chamber of commerce, I'm this, I'm this. I was like, how do you have enough hours in the day, man. [01:53:54] Speaker B: Right. I mean impressive. Impressive. Just a guy in know absolutely. And those are the kinds of advocates the Browns need. Keeps things going for the next generation. [01:54:07] Speaker A: Hit the nail on the head there with the word advocate. I mean, he's talking about everything that they do for all the Browns backers groups out there in California and how they kind of band together and do a lot of big mean. We talked about it in the interview and we'll talk about it again. That'll take us to the Burning River Sports guest hot takeout. Don't forget to call and leave your hot takes on the hot take. Hotline. [01:54:33] Speaker B: We love hot takes. [01:54:34] Speaker A: Remember, these are hot takes. We want hot takes. We want hot takes. [01:54:40] Speaker B: We want hot takes. [01:54:41] Speaker A: 3302-2780-8033-02 27 80 80 33 02-2780-8033-0227 80 call now. Operators are and I've seen them. [01:54:55] Speaker C: There's nobody there. [01:54:56] Speaker B: Nobody there. [01:54:56] Speaker A: It's just an answer machine. [01:54:58] Speaker B: It's me, actually. [01:54:59] Speaker A: Just leave a voicemail. We'll put you on the air. And with that, let's take a quick break and then get back here and talk to Brown's alumni Felix Wright and preview the week 13 matchup against the. [01:55:10] Speaker B: Rams Rams with Double Helix. Let's take a few minutes to talk to another Browns legend that will be joining us on the Browns Fan Cruise. [01:57:13] Speaker B: Powered by Riverside FM. [01:57:31] Speaker A: Of the Dog Pound and his eight years in the NFL, he amassed 29 interceptions and had 429 interception return yards and two touchdowns. And he led the league in interceptions in 1989 with nine interceptions. Gentlemen, please help me welcome our dog, Felix Wright. Hey, Felix, how are you doing, man? [01:57:54] Speaker E: I'm doing all right. I appreciate the introduction. In fact, I like that when you say I led the league because that was always a goal of mine, is to try and lead the league at least one time and I was able to get it done. [01:58:05] Speaker A: Nice. Awesome. Nice. And that was an unforgettable season in 89. I can't remember it because it was before I was born, but it was pretty unforgettable for everybody else. Now, I will say, before we get started and we get to some of the questions that we have for you, we do want to talk about something. You're going on the Browns fan cruise in March of 2024. That is confirmed. You and several other members of the Dog pound will be there. And so we have to say, being that we are a podcast that is brought to you by Seaside Events as the official cruise event provider of the Cleveland Browns and organizer of the Browns Fan Cruise, we will be on the Browns Fan Cruise and Mcgine. Quite a few events on that Browns fan cruise. We are really looking forward to sharing the same Browns Fan Cruise with a legend such as yourself. So can you tell our listeners just a little bit about the Browns Fan Cruise? [01:58:57] Speaker E: Well, I'm looking forward to it. I think it's in March sometime. I don't know the specific dates, but just looking forward to traveling with some of my ex teammates and some of the newer guys that are retired now. And we'll be traveling to, I think, the Bahamas and Jamaica and a couple few other countries. But I'm really looking forward to it. It's been a long time since I've been on a cruise, but it will be good to just have some camaraderie and to talk and talk about the good old days. And like you said, you called me an OG, so we got a lot of good stories. [01:59:29] Speaker A: There you go. And so I know we'll get back to the Fan Cruise here shortly, but before we do that, like I said, we want to talk about you. So first of all, there isn't a lot of info out there about yourself as far as growing up. So can you tell us where you're from, where you went to high school and how you got involved with you. [01:59:49] Speaker E: Know, I grew up in the Catholic school system, so I grew up going to a small little school called St. Anne's Catholic School in and you know, Carthage at the time had about 11,000 people. I think we're up to 12,000 people now in our little town. Our closest kind of big city is Joplin, Missouri, and Springfield, Missouri, which is about an hour away. But that's where I lived, right in the southwest Missouri, and went to the St. Anne's Catholic school system all the way up to the 7th grade. So the 6th grade. So I went through K through 6th there. And if they would have had football into junior high and high school, I probably would have stayed in that Catholic school. But we didn't. And so I had to go to public school to play football. I ended up going to the Carthage Junior High and then the Carthage Senior High. Played well there, played three sports, played football, basketball and baseball. And actually my best sport was baseball, which is crazy. I was an all state baseball player and just an all conference football player, but I got offered football comes first in the school year. And we didn't grow up with a whole lot of you know, my dad provided work for us. Well, but when I got my first scholarship offer from Drake University and it was a football scholarship, we kind of agreed that I don't know if we can wait until the spring and see if we get any offers in baseball. So we better take the first things coming. So that's how I ended up at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, which actually ended up working out real well for say yes no. Like I said, I played, I was an all conference player and went up to Drake University and became know, I didn't start immediately when I went up there, but I was starting mid year in my freshman year and ended carrying carrying that starting position for the remaining three years. So three and a half years at Drake University I was a starter, but at Drake we were a Division One school at the time. But we didn't get a lot of recognition because we were nestled in Des Moines, Iowa, which is the biggest city in Iowa, but Iowa State was about 30 minutes down the way. The University of Iowa was about an hour and a half away and we were nestled right in the middle. And so anytime we had a home game, they took all the fans. So our stadium didn't hold much anyway. I think our stadium held like 6000 people, so we just didn't get a lot of recognition. But we had good football teams and we had good film, but we didn't get a lot of recognition, so we didn't get a lot of people to see us. So we went eight and three that last year and we beat Colorado, played Nebraska, really, you know, none of us really got an opportunity there. So from there, I basically graduated in four years and had no choice but to move back home and to solicit for jobs back there to kind of survive. And so I went back home to Missouri and applied for a few jobs, coaching jobs because I had a teacher coaching degree and got a job in Missouri where they hired me on to be a physical education and history teacher and also driver's education when they had drivers education in school and football, girls basketball and track coach. So I loved it. I had a great time doing it. And a funny thing happened during football season, pretty much I was the defensive coach, defensive linebackers coach, which was kind of crazy. And then I was also kind of the weight training coach. And so I stayed in great shape because anytime I asked any of my high school athletes to do anything, I worked out with them. So I stayed in really good shape physically. And I ran with them. Wherever I asked them to run, I ran with them. And they really loved that. And about halfway through the season, we weren't having such a very good season. But anyway, a couple of the defensive backs were having some issues. So I was out doing some demonstrating on how it should be done and then went on about my business. And then after every practice in any high school or college, you always have the coaches meetings after the practice just to kind of evaluate how the practice went and what we need to work on. And a couple of coaches were just looking at me, shaking my head, and they said, Felix, I don't even know why you're still here. And I'm like, what are you talking about? And they said, well, you should be playing somewhere professional football. And I'm like, come on, now. I says, I'm out demonstrating to high school kids so I should be able to lock down a high school kid. I said, the pro levels are a lot different. And I said, But I would love to have the opportunity because I said I didn't feel like I got an opportunity to even get a try at the next level. But after they said that, it kind of triggered something on my drive home because I lived about 20 minutes from school. So as I was driving home, I was just thinking about it. I said, Man, I wish I did had an opportunity to do that. But I got one letter while I was at Drake and it was from an agent from an agent out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And it was funny. I got the letter, but he never called. And I never called. So when I went home that evening, I kind of told my mom and dad what happened. And I just says, you know what? Do you still have my books and stuff from college? And she said, yeah, they're upstairs in the attic. I says, I need to try and find this letter of this agent, maybe give him a call and see what he can do for me. And she says, I'll go up and look for it and see if we still have it. And so she was up there for a little bit, and she came down with the letter. And I remember the attorney's name. His name is Elliot Layman. And so I called him up that evening, and I said, Elliot, how you doing? I said, this is Felix Wright. And he says, yeah, I know who you are. You never called me. And I'm like, well, I said, I. [02:06:35] Speaker A: Thought, that's a two way street, man. [02:06:37] Speaker E: Yeah, I thought, agents call players. Players don't call agents. And then we laughed about that. He asked me how I was doing, and I told him what I was doing. And I said, you know what? I had an experience today where I had talked with a couple of coaches, and they thought maybe that I should be at the next level, but I know that just talk. But I said, if you can get me a tryout somewhere, I'd be grateful. And I said, see what you can do. And if nothing works out, nothing lost. But if something works out, maybe something will happen. So he said, cool. He said, I'll make some calls and see what I can come up with. And so he called me up the next day, and he said, well, I got some good news, and I got some bad news. I said, wow. And he said, well, which news do you want first? And I said, well, the good news. And he says, well, the good news is I got two trials for you. I'm like, wow. And I said, what could possibly be bad? And he said, well, they're both on the same said. So you're going to have to make a decision on which one you want to go to. Either go to the Detroit Lions workout or go down to the Houston Oilers workout. And on my teacher's salary, I said, well, I better choose the closer one, because I had to pay for everything. I had to pay for gas, the car, the hotel, the whole works. And so I had about 45 days to kind of fine tune my skills and to really tune it up to where I ran a good 40, lifted good weights for them to make a good showing. And my uncle said he would take me down there. And I thought, well, this is great. So my uncle took off from work. We went down on a Friday because it was a two day workout. It was on a Friday, Saturday, and so they scheduled me in on a Saturday. So we went down on Friday just to get down and get into the hotel, stretch it a little bit, work so I can get ready for Saturday. And so we decided to go in there and actually watch the Friday workouts and see how that was going. Not having any idea of what to expect. And so we get there, we get checked in, and then we go over to the facility, and we see all these people and all these cars there. And I'm like, wow, that's a lot of people. And it ended up being about 150 people there working out. And I'm like, I looked at my uncle, and I says, I think this is a waste of time. I says, we're not going to really get a legitimate look here. We should just leave. And my uncle his name is my Uncle Tinker. That's his name. He says, I took off work. You're going to work out. I said, all right. I'll work out. I'll go through and see what we can do. But if you got that many people there, how can you really, truly evaluate anybody? And he said, well, you go around, we're going to see. I'm like, okay. So we went home and stretched some more, got ready, ate, and then got up the next morning, went over to the facility and went through kind of the combine workout, went in, and they weigh you get your size, you lift a few weights, and then you go outside. I did a few backpedals, caught the ball, and actually ran a couple of then we probably worked out for about an hour. In that session, we had about another 150 people, so 300 total people were there. So after about an hour, he blew the whistle. And so he brought the group in from Friday with the group on Saturday, and we were all out there on the field, and he says, we would like to thank everybody for coming. Some came from a long ways, and we've came up with a few things that we want to invite to camp, and we've invited three people. You got 300 guys there, and he says, they got three people. So you know that the ODS are pretty crazy. And my name was the second name called, which was really amazing at the time, which is really crazy. [02:10:52] Speaker A: Good thing, because then you didn't have to wait for the third name because. [02:10:54] Speaker E: Then he yeah, I know I should. [02:10:57] Speaker A: Be saying right now is, thank God for Uncle Tinker. [02:11:00] Speaker E: That's right, because if I was the only one there, I would have just left Friday night after workout. So they came back in on the next day. On Sunday, they signed me to a contract. They said you could report back in a month. Actually, the craziest thing is that I went home and I worked out, and I felt really good, and it came up and worked out in the summertime. And I felt in that training camp, I had the best training camp I've had, even when I was with the Browns and with the Vikings, I had the best camp. I felt I was the best safety in camp and was making interceptions, making good tackles, and for whatever reason. And Kenny Houston was the defensive back coach for the Houston Orleans. At time, Kenny Houston was an All Pro safety and he's in the hall of Fame and he'd been there for a while. And after the third preseason game we had got in there and played real well and had a great camp and they ended up releasing me, which was totally caught me off guard. Caught me off guard. I was a little disappointed. But the crazy thing about when they released me is that we had a game on that Saturday and on that Friday I had to tell the school, they said, well, we're going to give you to this date, which was that Friday if I was going to resign or not because they had to hire another teacher coach. So that Friday, the day before the game, I told him, I'm still here in Know and I'm going to be here. So I resigned. So then we played the game on Saturday and then on Sunday I got released. So it was pretty crazy. But before I left out of there, kenny Houston came up to you and said, felix, he says, trust me, I know how you feel right now. He says, I had no say so in this situation. He says, I would have kept you all day, but you'll be back in the league, I promise you. But at that time you don't want to hear all that. Yeah, whatever, I'm out of here. And so I left out and they flew me home. So I went back home to no job because I had resigned on Friday and I didn't know what the heck I was going to do. And I got home on that Sunday, and that Sunday evening I got home, I got a call from a Canada team which is called the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and they just said, felix, we saw you in camp, we love what you did, you can come up and play for us right now. And I'm like, yeah, but I don't really understand Canada. Isn't it pretty cold up there? Doesn't it snow? Yeah, it gets pretty nippy up here. But we play football, it's a little different. We play on a little bigger field, a little wider field, but we play with twelve men versus eleven. But we'll teach you the game and you can come play for us. It wasn't really a hard decision because like I said, I didn't have a job anymore. So I said, well, I'll go up and give it a shot. And I told them, I said, listen, I need some cash, man. I've been here in training camp, they don't pay as much. I got some bills to pay. And I said, could you have $1,000 waiting for me when I get there? And they said, no problem. So as soon as I got off the plane, they gave me the thousand. I was able to send it back home and pay some bills and they flew me in on Thursday. We went through a little walkthrough on Friday and then we flew out to Edmonton, Ontario I mean Edmonton, Alberta on Friday afternoon and we played Saturday against the Edmonton Eskimos. And the starting quarterback there was Warren Moon. And Warren Moon looks out there at that right cornerback position and sees there's a rookie out there and he says, well so the first ten passes in the first quarter were towards me and they completed about four, I think they completed four of the first nine. But then on the 10th when I intercepted, took it back 80 yards and so he left me alone after that. Yeah, he left me alone after that. So then the Tie Cats, they just signed me just for that year. Then they just said, well so we ended the season. We lost the first playoff game. And then they just said, we want you back. We really like you. We want to sign you to a two year deal. And so I signed it because I didn't have anybody else that was interested in me. So I signed a two year deal and stayed up there with the Hamilton Titans. And in those two years I became an All Star, which is an All Pro player up there and just loved the game, the opportunity up there because they passed the ball 90% of the times. There's lots of opportunities to get interceptions, make some big plays, but became the All Star up there, which was really cool. But in my last year we were kind of negotiating a new contract but they just said they just didn't have the money to pay me what I wanted. And the crazy thing about it is that I almost kind of settled to say, okay, well, I'll just take this. But what happened is we went into the playoffs and we said we'll just talk about it when we get out of the playoffs and we'll figure, know what we're going to. Uh because I really had no scouts looking at me but we had a quarterback that was getting a lot of looks from the NFL at the time because midseason my last year, we traded Tom Clements to Winnipeg and then Dieter Brock came to Hamilton from Winnipeg. So Dieter Brock was a pretty hot product and so the scouts were in checking him, you know, they were at our two playoff games and then my one playoff game against Toronto, which is they call it the Eastern Final, which is kind of like the AFC Championship Game. And for whatever reason I had a great game there. I had four interceptions in that game, which was pretty wild. Yeah, so they were there to watch our quarterback and so I caught their eye and they said, well, this little defensive back we got here is not too bad either. We maybe need to take a look at him. And so then the next week the. Following week, we went into the Gray Cup, which is the Super Bowl in Canada, and you got another interception there. And then pretty much right after the season, I got offers from, like, five different NFL teams, and I went and worked out for Green Bay, Chicago, Miami, and then Cleveland. And how I ended up choosing Cleveland was because of Marty Schottenheimer. Marty was, I felt, paid the most attention, and he talked to me, the says, Felix, he says, I just became the head coach. I'm trying to I'm trying to put this team together from all different leagues to my liking. And I said and he says that I don't care if you were a first round draft choice or you were a free agent. The best player is going to get an opportunity to, you know I know it's up to you to decide what you want to do, but if you're good enough to be a starter here, you're going to start for me. We see what you did up in Canada. Here in the NFL is a little bit different culture, a little more physical, but if you can come up with the ball like you used to come up with the ball in Canada, you'll be okay. I told him, it's on. That's how I came to Cleveland in 85, signed a contract and came up here for training camp and blended right in with the defensive backs and became a nickelback and played. I kind of backed up Minifield and Dixon my first year. The second year, I kind of moved to safety and kind of backed up Donny Rogers and Ray Ellis and Chris Rockins. And then halfway a couple of games into my third year, I had a big game on Monday night after the strike against the Rams, where I had a couple interceptions, one for a touchdown, and never looked back and became a starter and started for the remainder of my career. So that's kind of how I got started. I don't want to say it was a fluke. I like to say it was that when I had the opportunity, I didn't blow it. I was ready for it. And that when I go out and speak to students, student athletes, I always tell them, I said, you never know when that opportunity is coming, but when that opportunity comes, you got to be ready. And if you're not ready, then all we got is excuses. But if you stay ready when that opportunity comes and you do your best, then some good things going to happen to you. So in a ten year period, I went from a teacher salary to a professional salary, which was pretty awesome. It worked out really well. I love Cleveland so much that I end up retiring here. Although after six years, I went to Minnesota for a couple of years. [02:21:04] Speaker A: Realized you didn't like that. [02:21:06] Speaker E: Yeah, played up there. But the only good thing is we played in the dome. So that was cool. And then my last football game I played in was for you know, Marty called me up and said, hey, I need your help the next couple games, and hopefully we can get to the Super Bowl. I went to Kansas City and played with, like, Joe Montana and Marcus Allen, derek Thomas, you know, trying to get to the Super Bowl. We ended up getting beat at went that was their fourth time they went got beat up on. But it was a good experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. [02:21:43] Speaker A: That's awesome. And you finishing kind of at the end there with Marty Schottenheimer. That's a pretty cool full circle moment from the beginning of your NFL career to the end. [02:21:52] Speaker E: Absolutely. [02:21:54] Speaker B: What an incredible just I was going. [02:21:57] Speaker A: To interject and ask a few more questions. This is such a great story, start to finish, that I just want to hear the whole thing out. [02:22:04] Speaker B: I mean, there's a book deal out here, felix, you got to talk to somebody. This is a tremendous story. Wow, I'm blown away. Right? [02:22:14] Speaker A: So one question that I have so obviously you talked about your time in Cleveland and loving the city and spending time with the franchise is obviously more than just playing football for them. You become involved with your teammates off the field, with your community. With that in mind, do you have kind of a favorite off the field memory from your time in. [02:22:37] Speaker E: Do? We do so many things together with the retired. Awesome. You know, like, even with this know, we got the Kevin Max, you got Hanford Dixon, you got, you know, Greg Pruitt. These are all guys that I know when I was here, and we do a lot of things off the field together. We golf together. We go out and do events together. And still to this day, even in our 60s, which is what we are now, which is kind of crazy to even think, is that we still do a lot of things together. And I just love that, doing things together and the camaraderie also. I work for the last 23 years, I've been an NFL inspector for all the Browns games. I work with Reggie Langhorn to where we get a chance to converse with the current players as well as with the fans in the stands, because that's really the last heyday we had until we can get these guys in gear. [02:23:39] Speaker B: Can you tell me about the roles as an inspector? What all is involved in that? [02:23:44] Speaker E: Basically what we do is we protect the sponsorship of the you know, Nike is the official apparel sponsor of the you know, any ball player, coach or referee, when they step out of that locker room, they got to be Nike down. They can't wear any Puma or Adidas and none of that stuff because we got to get it removed immediately. And then the official cap is like new era. So even though the apparel is Nike, you can't wear any Nike hats down there. They can all be new era. Hats. So the official headset is Bose, so we can't have any Beasts by Dre down there. The official computer is the Motorola. So we can't have any Apple Computers down there, which there's always I don't know how it gets down there, but Apple Computers find their way down there and then Gatorade is the official drink and the Cape Mini Cokes or Pepsi's or Root Beers, and we always find those down there as well. So we're just basically we police the area. Those sponsors pay a lot of money and they don't want to see any other product down there that's not theirs. For 15 years, I did it alone by myself. And then, versus giving us a raise, they said, we're going to let you hire somebody else to come help. I hired we hired Reggie Langhorn on, and so I think he's in they. [02:25:16] Speaker A: Probably realized it's a two man job, too. So much to check, right? [02:25:22] Speaker E: Yeah, because I used to have to yeah, because I used to have to go from this sideline to this sideline. Now I start off on the Browns, he starts off on the opponents. And then at halftime, we switch. I take over the opponent. He comes to the brown side and just manage it. They want the pant to meet the sock. They don't want any skin showing like in college. They want your thigh pads and your knee pads in. They don't want the shirt hanging out below. They keep us busy because we got a lot of ball players out there that try and be trendsetters out there, and the NFL doesn't want that. [02:26:04] Speaker A: So do you have to constantly meet. [02:26:06] Speaker B: With the team all year long? Guys, come on. [02:26:09] Speaker A: What are we doing here? [02:26:10] Speaker E: Well, in preseason, we go in and we kind of talk to the team and kind of go over the rules and regs because they got new people every year. So we go in the preseason and talk with them and then they know who we are. [02:26:22] Speaker A: Well, you know what the NFL stands for? [02:26:26] Speaker E: Not for long. [02:26:29] Speaker A: I was just going to say National Football. You guys are coming up with all different things. I didn't say any of that. [02:26:35] Speaker B: He set us up, Felix. [02:26:36] Speaker A: Yeah, I did. No, I did have another question about your time in Cleveland, Felix. Do you have a particularly good story about the early days of the dog pound? [02:26:48] Speaker E: Yeah, it was awesome, because when we came here, because Hanford and Clay Matthews, Chip Banks and the boys came in here, they came in and they were kind of known as the cardiac kids. And then when I came in 85, just one day, I don't know, we really didn't talk about changing the culture as far as changing from the cardiac kids. And I didn't really understand it other than they just said they were the cardiac kids, because it always went down to the end and they always pulled it out. But it was one of those things where Menafield and Dixon just says, well, we need to create our identity for these 80s teams. And then just one day, they just start barking in the end zone, which they call the dog pound. And the fans picked it up and they started barking. And then we did a poster where I think it was Frank, Minnesota. [02:28:00] Speaker A: Is that the famous one of you guys all standing on the steps in Cleveland? [02:28:04] Speaker E: Al gross. Don Rogers. They did that with and that's when it actually became official. The only place we messed up, Hanford messed up, is that we didn't get a trademark before the Browns could. The Browns are still using it today, making millions of dollars, and we're not getting a penny. [02:28:24] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I have another follow up question regarding that, but before I get there, that photo don't you guys all have a dog? Each have a separate dog? [02:28:32] Speaker E: Yeah, I think one's got a Doberman, another one's got some or all of. [02:28:37] Speaker A: You guys are shirtless or something. [02:28:42] Speaker E: Not like David and Joko. No. [02:28:45] Speaker A: But my follow up question that I had is, how do you like the new dog pound logo? [02:28:53] Speaker E: It's okay. It's okay. I wish they put that on 50 yard line versus what they got out there now. Yeah. [02:29:09] Speaker A: You're not a big fan of the elf? [02:29:10] Speaker E: No, not really. I don't really understand the elf. Maybe I just don't know the history of it. [02:29:16] Speaker A: It's back from, like, the yes, it was very short lived. Right. But, yeah, Kenny would probably disagree with you just because he hates the new dog pound logo. [02:29:28] Speaker B: I like the old dog. The original dog mask cool, but this one just doesn't do a lot for me. [02:29:35] Speaker E: But yeah, I know. It's okay. But it's one of those deals where as long as I keep the helmets, the helmets, the same colors without a logo on there, I'm okay with it. [02:29:51] Speaker A: You know what would make this dog pound logo better is if it was trademarked and you guys were the ones. [02:29:58] Speaker B: Making the money off of it. [02:30:00] Speaker E: Absolutely. I wouldn't be down there working on the sidelines. I'd be up in the suite hanging out. [02:30:09] Speaker A: See, you missed your opportunity. I know, but listen, it's always interesting hearing stories of retired players and especially, obviously, the guys that came through Cleveland, but I do know that for most of you guys, you get sort of the second life after football, and you get to start doing things that you couldn't do while you were in the league. So can you tell us a little bit about what you're up to today? I know you mentioned that you're an inspector, but just in general, what are you up to today? [02:30:34] Speaker E: Well, I'm happily retired now, actually. I've got that age where I could collect my pension and my Social Security now. So I really enjoy doing that. And so really the only thing I do now is really that inspector job for all the home games. But when I first retired from the game, I didn't do much for a couple of years. Just kind of kind of lived off some of the investments that I made and then I retired after the 93 season and I think in 1990. So I took like five years where I was just kind of just kind of living off what I made. And then in 98, I went to work for a bank called Royal Bank of Canada because they wanted to start up a sports program. And my agent at the time was from Toronto and said that, hey, I know the perfect guy to start off this program. And so they ended up hiring me and another fella, and they were home based down know they're home based in Toronto, but their headquarters in the United States was down in Atlanta, down in Buckhead. So they hired me on and we kind of started up their sports program where we work with athletes. I did that for a couple years and had a wonderful time doing it and kind of kept me in the then, you know, after after, you know, a couple years of corporate America, I said, yeah, it's time to get on out and start my own deal. So I pretty much retired in 2000, I started up my own company to where I just started working with athletes on my own, pretty much doing the same thing that I was doing at the bank. It's just I didn't have the bank money, so I had to go out and find investors. So I found about ten investors and we invested in athletes and we made some good investments to where our money came back to us. And so I did that for good 20 years to where I did that working with athletes. Nowadays, the last couple of years with this nil, they don't really need money anymore. So that business kind of fizzled out other than I can help manage money, but I'll let the money managers do that now. So that's kind of what I did for the 20 years when I was just kind of just here and there. But I'm a firm believer, if you have your own business, you can pick and choose what you want to do. And it was pretty stable, so I was pretty lucky that way. [02:33:05] Speaker A: And good for you. You said you're happily retired. Good for you. Just spending your days doing what you want to do. I mean, that's the life I want to live 35 years till I get there. So yeah, not looking forward to that. But something I am looking forward to is the time that we get to share on the open ocean and a couple of amazing stops along the way in March of 2024. So I do want to talk about a competition that they have going right now for the Browns backers for this inaugural Browns Fan Cruise. So they're having a competition with the Browns backers. It's basically who could get the most bookings. And so whoever does get the most bookings will get an all expenses paid balcony cabin for two on the Browns Fan Cruise. The chapter with the highest member to bookings ratio also gets an all expenses paid ocean view cabin for two. All members of the winning chapter will receive a specialty dining pass for two guests, and all members of the winning chapter will receive a Browns Fan Cruise commemorative Cleveland Browns autographed football. And so with that being said and knowing that there's this competition for Brownsbackers out there, do you have anything you want to say to Brownsbackers across the nation and really across the world? [02:34:17] Speaker E: Well, I love the Brownsbackers. They got so many around. Actually I got a daughter that lives in St. Pete, Florida, and I got a daughter that lives in Minneapolis. And actually my daughter in Minneapolis is from Minneapolis when I was with the Vikings. So she's a Viking fan, but she's also a Browns fan as well. And my daughter grew up in Cleveland that lives in St. Pete's. So she goes to a Brownsbackers bar there and watches all the Cleveland games every week. Nice. But I've been doing Brownsbackers meetings for forever since retiring and I think they're great organizations. And in know, I'm actually going to Cincinnati and doing one here later on this year, actually going for the last game of the year, I'm going down to Tampa to do a Brownsbackers meeting. We just love them. We love the enthusiasm that comes along with it and we just can't get enough of them. And then we know, like me, Hanford, Reggie and Kevin, we always show up when the presidents come to Cleveland in training camp and get to visit with all the presidents from around the country to come in and support us as well. So the Browns organization really depends on us a lot, the alumni, a lot to do, a lot with the Browns backers, which we're obliged to do if they pay us to do. [02:35:44] Speaker A: No, I mean, you are correct. And one thing for sure is that the Brownsbackers are literally mean. We have a whole Brownsbackers interview series on our podcast because they're everywhere. [02:35:58] Speaker E: Right? [02:35:58] Speaker A: But real quick, we are running out of time here. But real quick, can you tell us a couple of things? How do you think the Browns have looked thus far this season and how do you think they'll fare the rest of the way? [02:36:10] Speaker E: Well, I predicted a lot of people were asking me for their predictions on how many games they'd win. I told them at the beginning of the year that they would win ten games. So we're right on point. So it looks like we'll reach that on so far. Yeah, we've given a few games away. We could be six and two, seven, and really the only game that we really lost was against the Ravens. They beat us up pretty good. But with the Pittsburgh game, we were in the Seattle game, we should have won, and then we'll see what happens for the rest of the season. But I'm happy that we're in position to make something happen. We didn't put ourselves in a position where we don't have a chance, so as long as we have a chance, I'm okay with it. We just got to keep our quarterback healthy. Obviously, we could tell the difference in him being in there versus not being in. You know, we've sustained a few injuries this last weekend as well, so we're going to have to replace, I think, Judge Wills, but the Knicks man up mentality. But this is going to be a true test against the Ravens this weekend. It's going to determine a lot of things, and we usually play well in Baltimore, so we'll see how it goes. [02:37:42] Speaker A: Absolutely. Are you sticking with your ten and six record by the end of the season? I'm sorry? Will that be ten and seven record by the end of the season, or would it be different? [02:37:53] Speaker E: No, I'm sticking with the ten. Yeah, I can't gamble because I work for the league, so I can't do that, but I'm sticking to my guns. And actually, I've had some pretty good predictions here the last couple of years, so, yeah, I'm going to stick with it. And some of the guys that I probably told probably went out and bet that, so I'm hoping they win and then they'll come and ask me again next year. [02:38:19] Speaker A: There you go. Well, hey, Felix, it's been wonderful and been an absolute pleasure having you on. We really appreciate your time. We know it's valuable, and we look forward to seeing you on the Fan Cruise in March of 2024. [02:38:32] Speaker E: I look forward as well, and I appreciate the invite. You guys have a good evening. [02:38:37] Speaker A: You too. [02:38:38] Speaker B: You as well. [02:38:38] Speaker E: Thanks. All right, buddy. I'm Felix Wright, and you're listening to Burning River Sports cast Bill Brown. [02:39:11] Speaker A: Felix Wright is a dog, bro. [02:39:14] Speaker B: Rhymes with double helix. [02:39:16] Speaker A: Why do you keep saying that? [02:39:17] Speaker B: It's the only thing that rhymes with fair. Look, I'm broken record here. I say this every week. I mean, the stories of these guys have tremendous if you haven't bought your ticket yet to the Browns Fan Cruise, you're wrong. You're wrong. These guys have so many great stories, and I know they're all itching to tell you all the more sultry details about some of the things that have gone on. We continue to get head nods, and I'll tell you that later from all these guys. [02:39:45] Speaker A: And we've heard some of these stories after we were done recording. So like I said, this is just a taste of the stories that you'll be able to hear from these guys. If you get yourself a ticket to the inaugural Browns fan cruise in March of 2024, it is going to be epic. [02:39:59] Speaker B: Epic. [02:40:00] Speaker A: And with that, let's get into the week 13 preview. All right, guys, this week we have the Los Angeles Rams. Kenny, you got matchup previews or opposition research for us here? Anything you want to highlight? [02:40:20] Speaker B: Yeah, real quick, this team is not great. [02:40:27] Speaker A: Wow. [02:40:27] Speaker B: What I mean by that is that their offensive ranking puts them at 17. Their team defensive ranking puts them at 17 mid. They are literally the most mediocre team you could possibly create. [02:40:40] Speaker A: They are dead smack in the middle. And you go one step further than that, you look up every stat category, rushing yards against rushing yards, for passing yards, against passing yards, four mid, turnover margin. Like literally everything I was trying somewhere between 22 is the lowest and like ten is the highest. [02:40:59] Speaker B: I was looking all over to try to find something that they were good. [02:41:01] Speaker A: At or something that they were bad. [02:41:02] Speaker B: At or something they were bad at, and they're just either very mid. You have an aging Matt Stafford that caught fire last week for four touchdowns, but still he hasn't had a great year. These 13 and nine touchdown interception. [02:41:15] Speaker A: His wife's still arguing with rappers that are having strippers at the game. [02:41:20] Speaker B: They do have some good young running backs, I guess. And Kyron Williams has had a good year. Cooper cup. [02:41:28] Speaker A: There's names is not what he wants. [02:41:29] Speaker B: There's names out there that could do damage, but not in the way that they were when they were a Super Bowl team. No, the other couple that are interesting names on the wide receiver front, this puka Nukua kid has kind of come out of nowhere this year. [02:41:43] Speaker A: That guy's pretty good. I have him on my fantasy team. He's been putting up numbers all year. [02:41:47] Speaker B: Tutu atwell as well. Both like just young athletic guys that have been able to make a ton of catches and made Matt Stafford probably look a little better than he is at this point. But outside of know, nothing on their offense really sticks out to you obviously have Aaron Donald on the front of their defense. So that'll be an interesting matchup. I think just with our line being beat up. But outside of mean, this team is just very mediocre. It's a game that the Browns can. [02:42:18] Speaker A: And probably should win if they stick to a simple game plan. Agreed. For me in this one, I'll highlight a couple of things here. I have the Browns front seven versus the Rams offensive line. And the reason I threw this one in here is the Browns may be down of their best player with Miles Garrett, I know he's day to day. They said he's probably going to be good to go, but at this point, I don't know if his good to go is anywhere near 100% and if he's playing with one arm again we're going to have to find ways to put pressure on the quarterback. And I will say this, we've faced a number of maybe not super mobile quarterbacks but quarterbacks that can get out of the pocket and run a little mean. [02:42:59] Speaker B: Russell Wilson hurt us a little. [02:43:00] Speaker A: Right? That's what I'm saying. Russell Wilson hurt us. Lamar Jackson obviously does his thing. Kenny Pickett, not that he's mobile by any means but he's faster than Matt Stafford than some, he's more mobile than agreed. And so you know, with Matt Stafford, if we can continue to get pressure on the know, I think Matt Stafford is going to be a guy that you can get to more often than say a Kenny Pickett or say I'm sorry, Russell Wilson or one of these guys we faced recently. [02:43:30] Speaker B: For sure. That was the thing that was so frustrating about this game. [02:43:34] Speaker A: We almost got him every time, almost at him and then Russell Wilson was just fast enough to get just such. [02:43:38] Speaker B: A good feel for the pressure that was coming. But to your he, Russell could move around the pocket a lot. Stafford used to be a guy that had a little bit of movement when he was younger especially could get out of the pocket a little bit and run. But at this point in his career he's just kind of a statue. [02:43:54] Speaker E: Yeah. [02:43:55] Speaker A: And so in this game I think for us to win we got to play a simple game plan and we've got to force some turnover. So that goes with this front seven thing. Are they able to get some pressure, make Matt Stafford make some mistakes and get the ball turned over, give our offense a few extra chances? The only other matchup I had here I put the Browns wide receivers versus the Rams DBS. This could almost be like a Browns wide receivers versus themselves type of thing. [02:44:23] Speaker B: Since he likes to drop the ball. [02:44:24] Speaker A: Yeah, and that was my whole point is they've been struggling lately as a group. They haven't looked good in several weeks and so I'm just kind of like can they limit the drops? Can they exploit these DBS and give their quarterback a little bit of help, whoever that may be. So it's more of a wide receivers against themselves type thing. But they're playing against the DBS. [02:44:46] Speaker B: To be fair to our wide receivers. They're playing with guys that a shouldn't be in the NFL and one guy who's a rookie. I think we like what we've seen at DTR, but are you saying David. [02:44:56] Speaker A: Bell shouldn't be in the NFL? [02:44:58] Speaker B: No, I'm saying PJ. Walker shouldn't be in the well that yeah, that's true. He should be in the I'm saying they're playing with guys at quarterback that aren't necessarily like fair. [02:45:06] Speaker A: I got you. Top tier, I got you. I thought you were talking about the receivers and you're going that route. But no, yeah, I'm with you. But as a team, the Rams five and six record coming off a blowout win over the Cardinals, who were terrible. They won that game 30 714. This team is the definition of mid. [02:45:21] Speaker B: I do worry a little bit about the fact from a coaching matchup perspective, I trust Sean McVeigh more than I trust Kevin Stefanski. [02:45:28] Speaker A: That's probably fair. Sean McVeigh has a Super Bowl. [02:45:31] Speaker B: So with a team that's five and six, just like Denver was last week, this is a team that's desperate to get out and save position for the playoffs, whereas the Browns are still kind of on this. Like, if we lose, we still can still get in. So that worries me because they're going to be coming in again with their backs against the wall just like the Broncos were. [02:45:50] Speaker A: Yeah, but again, this team is the definition of mid. They don't do anything particularly well. They don't do anything particularly bad. They're kind of just there. They're there and hence they're right around 500. So this will take some coaching and a good game plan to figure out how and where to attack this team, being the fact that they're not particularly bad at anything. And I'm not feeling real great about our coaching right now. As I said, I don't have any respect at this very moment for Kevin Stefanik. But the Browns need to take care of business, continue to play dominant defense and protect the ball on offense. And if they can do those two things, which they didn't do last week, then they should win this game. It's as simple as that. [02:46:28] Speaker B: And I would assume by protect the ball, you mean, let's run the ball some. [02:46:32] Speaker A: Yeah, protect the ball. I mean, don't turn it over, but yeah, protect the ball. [02:46:35] Speaker B: I'm just saying, whether DTR starts or whether Joe Flacco starts, you probably don't want to throw the ball 60 times. [02:46:40] Speaker A: I want 30 carries between all the running backs. Agreed. But that'll take us to the injury report. [02:46:46] Speaker B: It will. [02:46:52] Speaker A: Sounder yes, yes, it will. Kenny, let's keep this quick. I mean, I know there's a laundry list for the Browns. Let's keep this quick. [02:47:00] Speaker B: I'm going to keep it real quick and Rams are going to help me do that because they are mid in everything but injuries. They have one guy on injured reserve, Ronnie Rivers, running back, who good name. He's been done since mid October, Stetson Bennett, huge loss there. He's out. [02:47:22] Speaker A: He's this generation's brain of whedon. [02:47:25] Speaker B: And it's been reported that he likely is done for the season, probably his career. [02:47:29] Speaker A: He's probably just done forever. [02:47:30] Speaker B: It was just likely not returned to the team this season, but this week. [02:47:35] Speaker A: 40 years old, he's done forever. It's over for him. [02:47:37] Speaker B: Going into the matchup with the Browns, quentin Lake, safety, and Duke Shelley, cornerback. Duke Shelley is on the injury reserve, so he's done. But. Quentin Lake is a hamstring but is not trending in the right direction for the Week 13 matchup with the Browns according to the AP. [02:47:55] Speaker A: So feels bad. What about the browns? We know there's a lot of them. [02:47:59] Speaker B: That is all of the injuries on the Rams. [02:48:01] Speaker A: Just give us the name and the injury and probable or questionable or what. [02:48:06] Speaker B: This is the injury report. That's all. [02:48:09] Speaker A: There's just so many of them for the Browns. [02:48:11] Speaker B: I covered basically all the injuries at the top of the show. So that's the injury report. I mean, right now the biggest problem is Miles Garrett's, day to Day, questionable with the sore pop in his shoulder. Denzel Ward still listed it out. Marquise Goodwin still listed it out. Maurice, questionable with the rib injury. Dorian Thompson Robinson, questionable with the concussion. And Anthony Walker was out against the Broncos. So we'll see if he gets back or not. Returning from injured reserve from earlier in the year was Jordan Kanachic this week who got some snaps on the defensive side of the ball with Anthony Walker out. So I don't know that he had a great game, but he was there. He was there. Kind of like the Rams. He was there. But yeah, just again, a laundry list of guys on the brown side that just not good at all. So hopefully they can find one of those field packs from video game and everybody gets better at. [02:49:11] Speaker A: How if only that was how things work. So before we get into King of the north and our picks player to watch, guys, kenny, who you got this week? [02:49:19] Speaker B: Look, I think it's really simple. I think we don't know who the. [02:49:22] Speaker A: Quarterback is going to be, whoever the quarterback is. [02:49:24] Speaker B: Whoever the quarterback is, because I can see this going a bunch of different ways depending on whether Joe Flacco starts or DTR starts. [02:49:31] Speaker A: It would be completely different game plan. [02:49:33] Speaker B: Yeah, it would be completely different offenses depending on who starts. [02:49:36] Speaker A: Kevin Stefanik's medal is going to be tested this week, and I don't like the sounds of that. [02:49:40] Speaker B: And I would almost put Stefanik in there, just my player to watch because he's going to be responsible. [02:49:44] Speaker A: He's not a player. [02:49:45] Speaker B: But to me, it's just a QB Browns player to watch this week because that's going to determine how many points we can score. [02:49:52] Speaker A: Knowing Stefanik, he's probably PJ. Walker starting. [02:49:54] Speaker B: Oh, my God. I never need to see PJ. Walker play in a game again. [02:49:58] Speaker A: Bone, who you got for your player to watch? We've beat that dead horse all episode long. We won't go back there. Kenny, glue factory. [02:50:06] Speaker C: Is J okay on the injury report? [02:50:08] Speaker E: No. [02:50:08] Speaker C: All right. Yeah, I'm going to go J. [02:50:10] Speaker A: Okay. [02:50:10] Speaker C: I think he's going to have another big game. I think he's going to I think I think Kyren Kylo Ren Williams is going to be a tough dude to contain. And I think JLK is going to have to be a big part of that. [02:50:26] Speaker A: Are you a star wars nerd? [02:50:27] Speaker C: Not really, no. [02:50:28] Speaker A: He's just like saying kyren. [02:50:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Kyren Williams is how I say it in my head. [02:50:35] Speaker B: Yeah, he's good. [02:50:36] Speaker C: He's on my fantasy team and he gives me lots of points. [02:50:38] Speaker A: You think it might just be Kieran? [02:50:40] Speaker C: I hope that doesn't happen this week. [02:50:41] Speaker A: Kyron kieran. Nobody. [02:50:43] Speaker C: I like Kyron fair. If he was my son, I would name him. [02:50:46] Speaker A: All right, so we got QB Browns, we got J-O-K. And my player to watch this week is Cedric Tillman. Look, they looked at him a little bit more in this last game. He got four receptions finally, like a multiple catch game. Him and DTR were high school teammates. So if DTR is the starter, I like him even more because it seems like they still have this connection, keeps building upon that and he continues to see more time, more snaps out there. So I think he finally breaks out in this game. Actually, I like him going for a touchdown, especially because Amari Cooper might not. [02:51:21] Speaker B: Be able to go with DBG. On and Amari Cooper out if they don't target him 14 times, there's something wrong. [02:51:29] Speaker A: David and Joku is probably going to have a big game, too. [02:51:31] Speaker B: David and Joku probably get 20 targets. [02:51:34] Speaker A: The rest of them, but yeah, Cedric Tillman, I'm looking for him to have a big game, but that'll take us to the king of the north. It you know, nothing just now. You so in case anyone doesn't know by now, this is our year long AFC north pick'em competition. At the end of the season. Whoever comes in last gets what? [02:52:19] Speaker B: Punished. [02:52:20] Speaker A: They get punished in the offseason. This past year, Kenny had a gross of eggs thrown at him by fans in the munilot before a preseason game. How'd that feel, Kenny? [02:52:28] Speaker B: It was terrible. [02:52:29] Speaker A: It was the worst experience of your life. [02:52:31] Speaker B: It's up there, man. It wasn't fun. [02:52:34] Speaker A: That's what we were going for. And to make it worse, I froze the eggs. We're still working out the punishment for this year. Guys, off the top of your heads, more suggestions. [02:52:43] Speaker B: Have to sit through a black eyed peace concert. [02:52:45] Speaker A: Oh, no. [02:52:47] Speaker C: Go back to a tailgate. But let people be sting. You remember like when you're a kid with the thumb. [02:52:52] Speaker B: Oh, God. [02:52:54] Speaker C: And anybody can be sting. [02:52:55] Speaker A: You terrible. That sounds awful. [02:52:59] Speaker B: That sounds like a great way to get a communicable disease. [02:53:02] Speaker A: That's true. People have figured out anything else before I move on? You guys got anything else? [02:53:09] Speaker B: Get pushed over in a porta potty? [02:53:12] Speaker A: Yeah, that's a bad one. Why would you do that? You talk about getting communicable diseases from a freaking what? [02:53:21] Speaker B: I'm just saying. [02:53:22] Speaker A: The goal is not to get people sick. It's to humiliate them. [02:53:25] Speaker B: The munila has lots of them. [02:53:26] Speaker A: Wow. All right, so let's get into things here. First things first, I want to remind everyone that I am still the reigning, defending, undefeated, undisputed King of the north. The cream always rises to the top. That's me. I'm the cream. And Kenny kenny is right where he belongs, in last place. And in case anyone has not noticed yet, we've added our trusty bordot Bone Man, to the competition this year, and he is currently tied with me in first. So let's remind everyone where our records stand before we get to our picks. I am at 20 and 16. Kenny is at 16 and 20, and Bone is at 20 and 16. So it feels bad. Kenny, you suck. [02:54:06] Speaker B: Thank you. [02:54:07] Speaker A: All right, let's get into it. The Ravens are on by this week, so no game for them. Steelers host the Arizona Cardinals. Kenny, who you got? [02:54:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Look, I never like to pick a team that's coming across the country, and the Steelers apparently keep winning games, somehow had an offensive resurgence this week, but I'm going to go Kyler Murray this week and Cardinals. No way. I think that no way. Look, if I had a game and came down to which quarterback I'd rather have, it's Kyler over Kenny pick. [02:54:41] Speaker A: Guys, ladies and gentlemen who are listening here, this is why Kenny loses King of the north is because he makes idiotic picks like this of the Arizona Cardinals over the Steelers. [02:54:55] Speaker B: I'll keep them receipts. [02:54:58] Speaker A: You keep on keeping on. Bone, who you got. [02:55:02] Speaker C: I really hope the Steelers lose. I'm with Kenny there, but I can't pick against them. Their running game has been ridiculous the last few weeks. [02:55:10] Speaker A: Just went for over 400 yards without Matt. [02:55:13] Speaker C: Canada, I think they're going to win. [02:55:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I agree with Bone here. They're at home. Mike Tomlin is still their coach. They are who we thought they were. Even though I don't think they're a good team. I think they're probably the biggest imposter that's in the playoff hunt right now. They are seven and four. So I like the Steelers. They're going to beat the Arizona Cardinals pretty easily. Next up, the Bengals travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Monday Night Football. Bone, who you got? [02:55:39] Speaker C: Jacksonville. [02:55:41] Speaker A: Oh, bengals are trash. Bangles are trash. All right, Kenny, who you got? [02:55:46] Speaker B: They got no airport. Jacksonville. [02:55:49] Speaker A: They do not. [02:55:50] Speaker C: Kentucky. [02:55:51] Speaker A: That is fair. So they have to go to Kentucky so they can fly down to the game. [02:55:54] Speaker B: I guess you could go to Dayton. [02:55:56] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyways, I'm with you guys here. I like the Jaguars in this one. No Joe Burrow. No more wins. I think Cincinnati might not win a game. [02:56:04] Speaker B: No more wins. [02:56:06] Speaker A: Who are they playing in Cincinnati right now? I know they just signed AJ. [02:56:08] Speaker B: McCarron, but signed AJ. [02:56:09] Speaker A: McCarron. [02:56:10] Speaker B: They got that Browning kid who was like one of the best quarterbacks was. [02:56:13] Speaker C: It was his first washington. [02:56:16] Speaker A: Jake Browning. [02:56:17] Speaker B: Yeah. He was one of the best quarterbacks in high school in the country. He threw for like 10,000 yards as a high school quarterback and, like, 96 touchdowns. [02:56:24] Speaker A: Then high school, no more, bro. [02:56:26] Speaker B: But yeah, he's nothing in the NFL. So they lose. [02:56:29] Speaker A: Yeah. All right, so we're all in agreeance there. The Jaguars will win that game. And finally, the Browns travel to La to take on the Rams. I will start this one. That team is mid and we should win. But we're also playing a rookie quarterback or a 40 year old quarterback. You never know. And we don't have a lot going for us right now. We got a lot of injuries. We're banged up. Kevin Stefanik is trying to get back to Kevin Stefanik things. I think it's going to be a really close game. I think even though we should win, I think we're gonna win. I think Cleveland's gonna somehow find a way to pull it out. [02:57:05] Speaker B: But it's gonna be pick already. [02:57:07] Speaker A: Just just barely. I like Dustin Hopkins kicking a game winning field goal again for the third time in four weeks. Browns win, 1716. Bone. Bone, who you got? [02:57:18] Speaker C: I got Cleveland. Can't pick against them. I think they're going to win. [02:57:22] Speaker A: Bone man can never pick against Cleveland. He will always pick. [02:57:25] Speaker C: Cleveland defense will be back, maybe with some vengeance, maybe some turnovers, if you may. [02:57:30] Speaker A: With or without miles? [02:57:31] Speaker C: Period. With or without. I think they're going to be oh, either or. I think they'll be okay. [02:57:36] Speaker A: You think Zelle plays this week? [02:57:37] Speaker C: I hope so. [02:57:38] Speaker A: Yeah, me too. All right, what's your score? [02:57:40] Speaker C: So I'm going to go 1913 Cleveland. [02:57:44] Speaker A: Man, it sucks that we have to pick such low scoring games because we know the offense can't really get us going. Kenny, who you got? [02:57:52] Speaker B: Look. I think La may have found something with their running game with Bone Man Stewart. Running back Kyler Ren. And I don't know who the quarterback of the Browns is going to can't. [02:58:06] Speaker A: That's a fair point. You can't discount that. [02:58:08] Speaker B: I can't trust that. I think that, man, that concussion was brutal and DTR came off the field with the bloody mouth. I think it's a bad look if he starts this week just from the NFL side of things. So I have a feeling that this concussion protocol is going to last longer than a week, which I believe puts Joe Flacco in the starting seat. And I just can't trust Joe Flacco in his first start with the Browns against a team that's even mid. [02:58:33] Speaker A: 38 years old. [02:58:34] Speaker B: At 38 years old, I'm going to go West Coast trip giving the Browns trouble. Rams win, and I think they might blow this thing open in the fourth quarter. I think it could be a 31 20 game. [02:58:46] Speaker A: Wow. [02:58:46] Speaker C: Yikes. [02:58:47] Speaker A: You think we're getting shit on? [02:58:48] Speaker B: We may not even score 20. We may score seven. [02:58:51] Speaker A: Are you going to go 31 seven? [02:58:52] Speaker B: Let's go 20. [02:58:53] Speaker A: Okay. All right. So those are the picks for this week. We'll see how things shake out. But that'll take us to, once again, the brewery sports guest hot Take Hotline. [02:59:03] Speaker B: Give us your hot take. [02:59:05] Speaker A: We want hot takes. [02:59:56] Speaker B: Every week. So that's good. Thanks, guys. [02:59:59] Speaker A: We appreciate it. [03:00:00] Speaker B: We will recap the game against the Rams, hopefully celebrating a big Browns victory coming off of the devastating loss to the Broncos. We will preview the Browns 14 Week 14 matchup. Man hey, I have been bumbling, stumbling, fumbling my words all day long since the very beginning. Bumbling, stumbling, fumbling I really blew the opening this week. Preview the Browns Week 14 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This could be another tough game. So maybe we can cut off Charlote Lawrence's hair this week and he'd be like, Thor, no. What's the magic hair? Samson. Samson. He won't have any powers. He won't have any powers. Divide us. And then we will have another interview with the Browns backers chapter, the Jacksonville Browns backers. And we will have a very special Browns alumni Browns Fan Cruise interview with the one and only Josh Crib. Cribs. That's right, a whole lot Josh Cribs. [03:00:57] Speaker A: For the 50th episode. Josh Cribs, right here. [03:00:59] Speaker B: Josh Cribs right here. Was a hell of a time talking to Josh and hope you enjoy as much as we did. Thanks to our guests today out in La. John and our Browns alumni this week, which was felix Double Helix. [03:01:18] Speaker A: Felix double Helix. [03:01:18] Speaker B: Felix. So great show. Great show. [03:01:22] Speaker A: Hell yes. [03:02:02] Speaker B: For days. [03:02:03] Speaker A: Facts for days. [03:02:04] Speaker B: Number one. Number one, horses and cows can sleep standing up, but they can only dream when lying down. [03:02:10] Speaker A: Wow. Why? [03:02:14] Speaker B: Science. [03:02:15] Speaker A: Science. [03:02:15] Speaker B: Number two. Number two, the tusk of a narwhal is actually just an inside out tooth. [03:02:22] Speaker A: What? [03:02:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Think about that for a minute. You make that work in your head? [03:02:32] Speaker A: Wait, you're talking about their horn? [03:02:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [03:02:36] Speaker A: What? I don't understand. [03:02:39] Speaker B: The tooth, man. [03:02:40] Speaker A: I don't get it. [03:02:41] Speaker B: Number three. [03:02:42] Speaker A: Number three. [03:02:43] Speaker B: Big bone man's got to help us out with this. One bone. One quarter of all of your bones are located in this part of your body. [03:02:49] Speaker A: Your butt. [03:02:50] Speaker B: Your butt. [03:02:51] Speaker A: It's the worst guess. [03:02:55] Speaker B: Your ankle, your hand, your feet. I'll give you ankle. [03:02:59] Speaker A: Feet. [03:03:00] Speaker B: Feet. One quarter of all of your bones are located in your feet. Seems like a stupid place to put. [03:03:06] Speaker A: A bunch of small bones. Why would you put on small bones there? You got to really hurt them. [03:03:10] Speaker B: I was just thinking about this, and we might have to have a theological discussion real quick with the doorman. [03:03:15] Speaker A: You better make it quick. [03:03:16] Speaker E: Real quick. [03:03:17] Speaker B: So in the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth, right? That's how the Bible starts. [03:03:21] Speaker A: Sure. Yeah. [03:03:22] Speaker B: What's the next thing he does? [03:03:24] Speaker C: Beginning. And then he expanded the vastness of the waters. Or brought what was it? [03:03:31] Speaker B: Let there be light. [03:03:32] Speaker C: Are you sure that's the very next line? [03:03:34] Speaker B: That's the next line. And the light, he saw it. It was good. [03:03:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [03:03:38] Speaker B: God created the heavens and the Earth in the dark. [03:03:41] Speaker A: Incredible. [03:03:42] Speaker C: Maybe. [03:03:43] Speaker A: Why wouldn't he turn the lights on. [03:03:46] Speaker B: First, create everything on the planet, and then see what's going on down here. [03:03:50] Speaker A: I made this thing. Now let's see what's up. [03:03:53] Speaker C: Well, what's your perspective on Earth? Or were they talking about our world? [03:03:59] Speaker A: Yeah, because he made everything else after that. [03:04:03] Speaker B: We made the heavens and the Earth in the dark. [03:04:05] Speaker A: Yeah, but the Earth was just nothing. It was just like a ball of nothing. [03:04:08] Speaker B: He made everything. All the trees, all the no, he didn't. [03:04:10] Speaker A: Those are the next things he says he fills Earth with. All these things. Those are after the light. All right. [03:04:14] Speaker B: So you just made a big ball of rock? [03:04:16] Speaker A: Yeah, it was already there. Blank canvas, bro. [03:04:20] Speaker B: Would you do that in the dark if you had the power to turn the lights on? [03:04:24] Speaker A: No. If I had the power to turn the lights on, they'd be on. He's God. [03:04:26] Speaker C: He doesn't need light. [03:04:27] Speaker B: Number four a bonus factory. [03:04:29] Speaker A: Let's hear it. [03:04:31] Speaker B: In the time it took for me to read this ends, around 50,000 cells in your body have died and were replaced by new ones. [03:04:39] Speaker A: Dust. [03:04:40] Speaker B: Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. [03:04:42] Speaker A: That's why everything's so dusty in here. You need to clean up in here every once in a while. All your skin cells are dying. All my skin? You're a bigger man than me. So more of your skin cells are dying at once. Is that true? I think so. You got more skin, so more skin cells are dying.
