Kenny, where do I even start?
[00:03:51] Speaker B: Oh, man. I mean, so much was built up about this game being, you know, Baker's revenge. And Baker talked to.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: And that's not a shot to get started here because I think it's been pretty well established on our show that we all like Baker and kind of reminisce, or not even reminisce because we never had it, but, like, wonder where we'd be if we just would have stuck with Baker and kept going.
And so that's. That's not a knock at him, but Baker talked his talk.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: I think it's more just the fact that we acknowledge the reality of the last four years have gone better for Baker Mayfield than they have for the Browns. So.
[00:04:29] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, have you. Did you see the graphic that was going around this week? And it put him up against every quarterback the Browns have had since him, and he outplayed all of them, and he had like. Like the numbers weren't even close.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, Baker. Baker has done fine for himself. Right.
[00:04:45] Speaker A: Just got an extension. He's feeling pretty good.
[00:04:48] Speaker B: He's getting paid twice now after leaving the Browns, So.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: Yeah, good for him. All that being said, I mean, it's got to feel bad for Baker.
[00:04:58] Speaker B: He didn't play well today, for sure.
[00:05:00] Speaker A: No. And it feels. That's what I'm saying. It's got to be doubly bad when you come out and play like that against the Browns, the team that you've kind of had circled for a long time. And even if he says he didn't, everybody knows he has.
[00:05:13] Speaker B: It's really bad anytime you get outplayed by DeSean Watson. Well, yeah, that's probably what feels the worst because. Because in all practicality, he did. DeSean Watson played well today. Well, as well as he's played as a Brown.
[00:05:27] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, that's what I was going to say. To be fair, it took DeSean Watson's best game ever as a Cleveland Brown to outplay Baker Mayfield.
[00:05:34] Speaker B: Yeah, well, and I think that's a good place to start, right? Because I. Look, there's. I think there's a lot of. There's a lot of mixed emotions right now.
[00:05:42] Speaker A: Right.
[00:05:42] Speaker B: Everyone's happy because the Browns won. I'm happy the Browns won. Right. The Browns winning beats another Sunday where we watched nothing good happen and this team looked listless and it just ruined your whole afternoon. This was a long afternoon, albeit a good one because the Browns won.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: What did you text us? Longest Browns game ever.
We've set a new record for the longest Browns game ever.
[00:06:05] Speaker B: I don't even. I got to go back and look because I. I mean, what was this? To finish end time, it has to be like six and a half hours. Like, it was a long, long time to wait for that weather delay. But I think what's. What's. Like, I don't want to get way out in front of my skis here because I've seen a lot of celebratory. Hey, desean Watson is back. This is what we. This is what we paid for. This is what we've been waiting to see, guys. I think, like, we're one week removed
[00:06:32] Speaker A: from him taking five sacks. That. Pff. Credited him with all of them. You guys do know that, right?
[00:06:38] Speaker B: He played pretty well, and I'll give him that. He didn't make the big mistakes that we're used to seeing, but I think we can't get lost in the moment. That was for both of these guys, for Baker and for desean. You know, Baker was. Had this game circled, right? He said that on a podcast at some point over the summer.
He wanted to play well. He wanted to show up for DeShawn Watson, this was very possibly the end of your NFL career.
I mean, that was.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: This was.
[00:07:08] Speaker B: The stakes were. Have at no point been higher for DeSean Watson to come out and perform as they were today. Because if he had put another lame duck performance on the board and played as poorly as he did last week, it would have been very easy for this coaching staff and for this, this organization to go, okay, look, we tried this one more time, and it failed. One more time. Now's the time to pull the trigger and make a change, because we're coming home. It all makes sense. In fact, there was a number of reports leaked this morning from Ian Rapaport and others that that was very much the case that The Browns were looking at the first two weeks, and if he didn't play well, then it would be time to make that change.
Um, so, so this was the absolute most desperate that deshaun Watson has played ever, because this was very possibly the last chance that he had to start in the NFL.
[00:08:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: And, and good on him because he, because he met the moment. Right. And Baker certainly did not.
[00:08:10] Speaker A: Yeah. That's all fair. I just. The reason why I was laughing at the beginning of that, and then I was glad you brought it around to the reports and everybody else is, because. Can we all just give Mary Kay Cabot a round of applause for her fant. Fantastic. Just journalism, I guess we'll call it.
I mean, this, this literally.
We went from name him the starter and be done with it. He's the guy. He's clearly the guy.
To this morning. She did that report before the game that said this is likely desean Watson swan song is a Cleveland Brown and we won't see him anymore. Like, like, my head spun. We got here so fast. I, I, I couldn't believe it. And, and just the lack of, like, I, I'm going in hard again here on Mary Kay Cabot because it's just, it's so bad. Like, I don't understand what's the point of these reports anymore, because they're just contradictory most of the time. It's, it's kind of just flavor of the minute.
She just says whatever she's feeling in that second. And she's supposed to be one of the top beat reporters for the Browns.
[00:09:27] Speaker B: She's a Hall of Famer.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: I know. It's just wild. She, she doesn't get to vote for the hall of Fame anymore, though, so. Sorry about that.
[00:09:33] Speaker B: No, I mean, like, she's a media hall of Fame.
[00:09:36] Speaker A: Yeah, I know, but I'm just saying that Deck came down. What was that this week? Earlier this week that they don't. Her and Tony Grossi lost their votes for hall of Fame, which probably means Art Modell is going to get it. That's a whole different story. But anyways, let's not go there.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: The Browns won today. This is a good day. Yeah, sorry.
[00:09:52] Speaker A: I got sidetracked. This is what happens. We digress.
But no. Yeah, I just, I couldn't believe how fast we got to the this is desean swan song. And I can't wait to see what she says tomorrow about DeSean and how he should be the starter. He's, he's. We're on the verge of naming him the starter for the rest of the season and finally putting this thing to bed.
But then on top of that, I don't know if you saw just one more thing while we're on this topic. I was going to save it for tomorrow's, for this week's show, but did you see that? She tweeted out after the game and she bleeped out. But.
[00:10:27] Speaker B: But because DeShawn played his butt off. Todd Monkins press conference.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: Yeah, but seven minutes later, she tweeted the F word seven times.
[00:10:36] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, Todd did drop an F bomb in the press conference.
[00:10:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, I actually like that. That was actually a good moment.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: But, you know, look, we all like that, right? But again, I just caution everyone of the prisoner of the moment scenario that we are in.
[00:10:55] Speaker A: Because.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: Because Todd Monkin is the one that ultimately was responsible for putting desean Watson on the field. And this is one high point in time. But look, this game, there's. There's 15 more of them.
So if Deshaun Watson plays like he did in week one 15 more times, we're all going to be going. I don't care that Todd Monkin came out and gave high fives to the fans that stayed through the weather delay. I don't care that Todd Monkin had his clapback moment to Mike Tomlin at a press conference because he won in the NFL for the first time. Like, it's easy to go. Yeah, this is the guy that gets us, right? Guys, look, pump the brakes a little bit because this thing could still go south in a hurry and.
And by all probability, it probably will. Right? Like this team probably still isn't very good long term. A win's a win. I'll take the win. But the season is long, my friends.
[00:11:53] Speaker A: Again. Yeah, agreed. And again, I just want to point out the fact that, listen, we beat the Buccaneers by four points.
You already mentioned Baker Mayfield did not play well.
He played pretty poorly, actually.
And it took DeSean Watson's best game as a Cleveland Brown to beat them by four points.
On top of that, I just want to throw out there that this is DeSean Watson stat line for everybody is 24 of 30238 yards, two touchdowns. He took two sacks for 15 yards, and he rushed seven times for 22 yards. You know, that sounds. Yeah, he was. Well, our running game is atrocious, but do you know what that stat line sounds like to me?
You guys remember, you guys remember when Jacoby Brissette was on our team? This was like the weekly stat line for him.
[00:12:43] Speaker B: It's look, we're celebrating mediocrity here, right? Because we haven't seen good. That's my ball in so long that if we just get average quarterback play, we go we could win games. That's always been the case. Right. That was the case before Baker got here. And that's what we all hoped for was, gosh, this team has talent here. If we could just get some average quarterback play, we'd win some games today. I think you saw desean Watson's ceiling as a Brown. If he plays that well week in and week out all year long, this team might win six, seven games and it'll be a middle of the road type season. If he plays like he played in week one, you won't win any more games this year. This was as good as Deshaun Watson can play and it's good enough to win some games in the NFL. I'm not real sure what this Buccaneers team is going to look like. Right. Like we talk. Have talked about the success Baker has had, you know, in previous years and you know, you go back to like the Dave Canales year, they, they were a great offense. The Liam Cohen year, they were a great offense. Both of those guys are head coaches now in the NFL in other places. And they've struggled to kind of right the ship since those guys left.
So I don't know that this Buccaneers team really is going to be all that good over the course of this season.
[00:14:01] Speaker A: No, I mean, they, they, they started off with the dreaded 0 and 2. So not many teams make the playoffs after starting off 02.
[00:14:08] Speaker B: So yeah, 02 is not a good place to be. And look for right now, the Browns have avoided the dreaded Owen 2 start because you're right, like the statistics aren't kind to you. If you start Owen 2, it happens. You can make the playoffs after Owen 2, but it's rare true. I don't know that anyone is under delusions of grandeur here.
That, that we are going to make the playoffs this year.
[00:14:31] Speaker A: I don't know. You texted us Super Bowl. So I was excited.
[00:14:35] Speaker B: The Browns want a game.
You know, even if desean plays this well, as well as he played the day all year long, this team's probably still not a playoff team. But no, we'll see. I mean, stranger things have happened.
[00:14:47] Speaker A: And so we, we do have a lot of good things to talk about. I know we're kind of like back and forth here right now. We haven't got too excited, even though they won't. Um, but I mean, because let's.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: Let's. Let's take it back, right? Because if desean had played poorly today, you go back home next week, and everybody kind of assumes. And it makes the decision easy. Shador is the starter here, at least for the time being. And desean. We're finally done with the desean era. It's done. We're done. We're going to put this behind us and move on. So the fact that desean came out and played as well as he did today kind of throws a wrench in everyone's plans now, because this elongates the desean Watson experiment.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: Careful what you say there about desean.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: It's going to lengthen the amount of time that we have to watch DeSean Watson play football here.
At least a few more weeks, probably. I mean, I think today buys him probably at least four more weeks, I would think. Right. If you're Todd Monken right now and you won your first game as an NFL head coach, you now owe something to the players that were on the field today.
Right. Like you. You. You have a bond that is different than you would with any other player, because that's a special day for Todd.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
So the reason I said, though, and I agree with everything you just said, it does. We're kind of kicking the can down the road a little bit here.
But I. I have one more negative thing here that I want to talk about before we get into all the positives, because there. There were a lot of positives from today's game, and we won the game, so those are all big things. But before we get there, I want to talk about our running game. We kind of touched on it a second ago, and it's really bad. It's really bad. And, you know, we've been saying this since, what, week four? After his, I think, quinch on Judkins. After he. He started off phenomenally. He. His first four games or whatever it was, he rushed for like, 100 yards each. He averaged like, 4 yards a carry.
Since then, he's legitimately averaged, like, 1.9 yards of carry. And he did it again today. 12 carries, 21.
[00:16:48] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:49] Speaker A: So I'm.
Every game that this happens, which is basically every game since then, I get more and more concerned that he's a complete bust, to be honest with you.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: Oh, man, you're throwing around the B word.
[00:17:06] Speaker A: I mean, prove me wrong. I know he still has this reputation of being this good player just because it hasn't been that long. He's been on a shitty team since. Since he was Drafted, but he's legitimately. You take out his first four games, he's averaging right around two yards of carry. That is really bad even for a, even for an offensive line that's not good in defensive.
[00:17:28] Speaker B: Quinn, Sean Judkins, here's what I'll say. Last year we know that there was attrition through that offensive line and the offensive line was, was poor. We know the offensive line this year is young and new and I would say the team made great strides on both sides of the ball from weeks one to week two.
So, you know, I'm not, I'm not overly optimistic that they're going to get it figured out and we're going to have this great running game. But I think there's reason to be cautiously optimistic to go. Okay, let's see how things develop over the next couple of weeks here before we start throwing around the B word just to give this offensive line time to jail. Because I think is. Is much as it could be. Quin, Sean maybe is, you know, doesn't have vision or isn't making cuts at the right time.
It also very well could be this offensive line just is not doing. Is not making their assignments.
[00:18:27] Speaker A: Yeah, no. And I mean that's fair. So across the board, the numbers are not good for running backs.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: Really bad.
[00:18:32] Speaker A: I mean Raheem Sanders, nobody else really got any carries, to be honest with you, besides quin, Sean and Desean by Raheem Sanders, 2 yards carry.
Jaleel McLaughlin had 1 carry for 3 yards. Casey Concepcion 1 for negative 6.
[00:18:49] Speaker B: I don't even know where that guy came from.
I'm surprised he was in the game,
[00:18:54] Speaker A: but I'm just like, I understand the fact that it's, it's bad across the board and that points to an offensive line problem. That's not lost on me.
I'm. I'm just saying I'm pretty concerned. A top tier.
I won't even call them. I would even say like a middle tier running back in the NFL. Like I'm saying, they're the 10th through the 20th best running back in the NFL.
You're probably getting more than 1.8 yards of carry even with a really bad line.
[00:19:27] Speaker B: Yeah, look, I think at the very least there's, there's got to start. Have been some concern inside of the, the coaching staff in the locker room a little bit.
I think they know they got to get it right. I think that there's probably they're starting to go, okay, what do we. There's something wrong here. And you know, personnel Always is a part of that equation. So we'll see. I guess, like I said, I'll give it to.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: It's probably early for. For the bust word. It's probably early for that. But I'm just. It's a concern. It's. It's starting to get to the point where it's, like, glaring and. And for a while it was like, maybe. Maybe it's just this. Maybe it's just. But the fact, like you said, they completely retooled the line. I know they're young. I know they're just. Just starting to gel and. And do things together, but you would think simply by having new bodies, I
[00:20:21] Speaker B: might be making this up. I might be making this up. But I feel like at one point last year, there was a stat going around about Quin Sean being, like, leading the NFL in contact behind the line of scrimmage.
[00:20:35] Speaker A: Now that. Yeah, that was. I remember that last year. You're not making it up.
[00:20:39] Speaker B: So, I mean, it's. It's hard to get anything going right when you're getting hit in the backfield, so. And I feel like just. Just the eye test today, there were not a lot of, like, gaping holes for him to run through. So again, cautiously optimistic that things will continue to develop and that we'll see improvement there. It has to. Right. I think Todd Monken mentioned that in the press conference. Right. They're not doing a lot to help desean. So for desean to have had the day that he had today with no running game, you know, maybe makes it more impressive the. The fact that they literally did nothing on the ground.
[00:21:19] Speaker A: Yeah, but. Yeah, let's. Let's turn this over to some positive things. Like I said, the. The young receiving core is impressive. I mean, Denzel Boston did it again today. He had five receptions for 95 yards. Another touchdown. Dude's never played in an NFL game where he didn't score.
That's true, Harold.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: Every game, he's facing 17 touchdowns. This year, it's a big year.
[00:21:43] Speaker A: That's a good year. It's not bad. It's not bad.
Harold Fanning Jr. Or as our boy Bone likes to call him, Harold Fanning.
Fanning Dakota 5. Five receptions for 54 yards. Casey Concepcion 6 for 28. Which is weird.
The fact that we apparently can't get him down the field at all is. Is a little concerning. But besides that, I mean, still, six receptions is a big day. Quinn Shine did have a good day in the receiving game.
He had five receptions for 27 yards. That's a good day for a running back.
[00:22:15] Speaker B: I'll give you some flowers here. I think your key to the game this week was Harold Fannin had to have six catches or 85 yards or six receiving and he was just shy of those numbers. But it was, it was big to get him involved. He's a huge.
[00:22:27] Speaker A: Pretty spot on. Yeah, that's. That was. The point is you got to make sure he's a consistent part of the game plan all the way through the game.
Thanks, man. I. You don't, you don't usually give me any respect whatsoever, but apparently you had some.
[00:22:41] Speaker B: I mean, you know, my player to watch was Denzel Boston because he scores in every game. So, you know, mine was probably more impactful.
[00:22:48] Speaker A: But who was. Who was Bones? Did he. Did he get it right too?
Who cares?
[00:22:56] Speaker B: I think he picked. I think he picked Mason Graham this week, but not sure.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: We'll get to the defense in a minute, but. Yeah, so I'm just, I'm very impressed with the young receivers. They all did a really good job.
You know who's non existent still that we should be using his trade bait even. Even for.
Yeah. That we might get out of him. Just trade Jerry Judy, get rid of him.
I mean, honestly, there's a. There's one of those young guys from camp that you can bring in and try and develop. That would be a more valuable roster spot.
I've, I've.
You don't see very many falls as quickly as Jerry Judy has fought. I mean, he literally went from being a number one receiver the year before last and going into last year, all of last year, he was the number one receiver technically to basically.
[00:23:47] Speaker B: Well, actually, I think that is kind of the Jerry Judy experience. Right. He was a high draft pick and then he was terrible. You're right. And then he came here and he had one good year and he's been non existent since. So that's pretty much what happened actually. We're actually due for Jerry Judy to do something.
[00:24:03] Speaker A: I want to hold my breath. He won't. He can't do anything until he goes to a new team, though.
[00:24:09] Speaker B: So even his body language on the sidelines is bad.
Yeah, I don't know what they're going to do with him. I mean, look, here's. Here's the silver lining in all this. Denzel Boston looks like a player.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: Casey Boston is dog.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: Casey.
[00:24:25] Speaker A: I'm not going to say that the Conception pick, they got both receivers, so obviously they did it right in the draft. They were able to get both of them, but we Were. I just remember draft night. We were screaming and yelling because we wanted Boston instead of Concepcion.
They ended up with both of them, but so far Boston's a dog.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: But look, I mean, Casey's going to get his opportunities, right? They've got him playing, you know, returning punts or whatnot.
He's. He's obviously a guy that they want involved in the offense. They've been trying to find ways like extension of the run game type plays to get him the ball in space. So he's going to continue to be involved. And I haven't seen anything from him yet that I go like, where I would start to think about the B word. Right. Like he's, he seems fine. He's just a rookie. Right. He's going to have to develop and get better. Uh, but Denzel looks like a player. So between those two guys, maybe you afford yourself the opportunity to say we don't really need Jerry Judy here. Right. Between Harold Fannin and Denzel, Boston and Casey Concepcion, if they could ever run the ball, you actually kind of almost have an offense here. Well, I mean, look, big question mark, a quarterback still, but almost with whoever
[00:25:31] Speaker A: is playing quarterback, can give us 200 yards and no turnovers. Yeah, you're probably okay.
[00:25:36] Speaker B: You might be okay. You could win some games.
[00:25:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
So let's go ahead and take it over to the defense here though. Carson swedging or. Dude, this guy is an animal out there.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: I, I thought you were gonna call him an angel.
[00:25:53] Speaker A: He is an angel.
He's got great hair.
Just the flow, man. Ah, but anyway, so much flow. Yeah, no, he's just literally, he's everywhere out there. I mean, he's always making the Big Ten. 11 tackles, 10 tackles, five solo tackles, one tackle for loss. But he just always, when we need a big play on defense, he's the guy that comes up with it. And I point to at the end of the game when we finally came back after the six hour delay and we're, we're getting going and it's fourth or. It was the third down play. It was before they had the fourth down play. It was third down and 14, I think it was got after Baker. Baker slips out of the pocket off to the right hand side.
And when, when Swedishinger first got to him, he didn't really have a good grip on him. Baker tried to do that, that classic Baker move where he like stiff arms him a little bit, gets just enough room to get the ball off.
[00:26:46] Speaker B: And he got away with one or two of those earlier in the game.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Right And Schwezinger was like, absolutely not.
[00:26:51] Speaker B: Yeah, not on Swes.
[00:26:53] Speaker A: So just. Just basically, for all intents and purposes, I know they had one more play after that, but just ended the game. He was like, not. Not today.
[00:27:00] Speaker B: And he planted him, too.
[00:27:02] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. On the side. It was. It was pretty big hit on the sideline there. So he just continues to impress me. I just. I. This, to me, is the best pick out of the Browns front office in the last few years. Like, I. I know there's been a lot of hands down, good pick. Schwezinger is by far the. The best find, especially because you got him in the second round.
[00:27:25] Speaker B: Shador Sanders was.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: Let's not go there.
[00:27:30] Speaker B: No hands down Swes.
Look, I love everything the guy does.

[00:27:44] Speaker B: He's an emotional and physical leader. He's what this team needed on defense, especially coming into this year. When you lose Miles Garrett and you lose Jim Schwartz, you need that guy. That's still the soul of this unit.

The rest of the defense, I thought, played pretty well today.
Definitely a huge bounce back compared to how they played last year. I mean, they played like ass last week.
[00:28:09] Speaker B: Well, there was no pressure whatsoever last week, and I don't even know how many. If they had sacks. Like, I don't even know what we ended up with today. But what I can tell you is three forced Baker Mayfield to make plays with his feet and. And put him in uncomfortable situations. And Baker, to his credit, got away on a couple of them, Made a couple of decent throws here and there, but they were at least threatening today. So that was again, a vast improvement from week one to week two, where this defensive line looked like it was alive today.
You know, there were a couple of them where, you know, Baker was just Baker. Like, you feel like in a. Most cases, nine out of 10 times, like somebody's going to get home on those. And he would just kind of squeak out or take off running, but. But it looked a lot better.
Miles Harden had the pick today, which was good to see because he was victimized.
So good. Good bounce back for him.
Yeah, this, you know, and I think in coverage, they. They played a lot better in coverage today.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: So on top of the pick two. Two pass breakups on top of it. So, yeah, good day for him. Yeah, I believe. Wasn't he. Didn't he have the big pass breakup at the end? In the end Zone.
[00:29:28] Speaker B: The one where, like, three guys were there.
[00:29:30] Speaker A: Yeah, I think he was the main guy in coverage that actually got a hand on it.
[00:29:34] Speaker B: Yeah, I can't remember who.
Who was in that mess, but, yeah,
[00:29:38] Speaker A: I mean, just regardless, huge kind of way to come back after. After having such a terrible week one for him.
But the whole defense, I mean, we've
[00:29:48] Speaker B: talked about defensive back depth being a little bit of a concern outside of Tyson Campbell and Denzel. So, you know, if some of these younger guys can start to step up and become reliable players, that's a good thing.
[00:29:59] Speaker A: I will point out, because I always like to highlight Ronnie Hickman because he's just had a million tackles the last, like, all of last year, most of this year. Not a good day for Ronnie Hickman. He missed a lot of tackles today.
He did have a sack, so it kind of made up for it. But I saw at one point some of the. Some people tweeting, and they're like, a lot of missed tackles today. A lot of missed tackles today. And. And at least 85% of the responses were. Yeah, 95% of them are from Ronnie Hickman.
So you gotta tackle better. He had three. Three total tackles today.
I think you probably should have had, like, better.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: Gotta tackle better.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: But Mason Graham, he had another sack, so he's on pace for 17. In case anyone's keeping count.
[00:30:46] Speaker B: That might have been. That might have been bones player to watch.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: So three as a team. It was Ronnie Hickman, Mason Graham, and the other one was Grant Delpit. So it's a little weird that our DBs are leading the team in sacks right now.

[00:31:54] Speaker B: I mean, he might not make it through the year at this rate. They haven't had a single offensive play run in the red zone in two Weeks.

Right. Like, we talked a lot about Jim Schwartz and losing Jim Schwartz and how this defense was kind of ailing in week one.
Big turnaround this week.
[00:33:22] Speaker A: I had my. You know how I like it just in your head, like when you're. You're thinking about coaches or whoever else, you're like, that wasn't a good answer. Like that strike one against you. Like, I already. I don't know if I like you. You know what I mean? Like, they just say some things. This week he had one of those when he was like, sometimes zone looks like man. Sometimes man looks like zone. I don't know, it's like.
What are you even saying right now?
[00:33:46] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, credit to this coaching staff. Look, I still don't think Todd Monkin is in this for the long haul, whatever that means.
I. You know, the way you mismanaged the quarterback thing. Well, who knows? I mean, maybe also this year, I don't know. But.
But credit to this coaching staff for. For just week to week improvement. Looks like a completely different football team out there today.
[00:34:10] Speaker A: Yeah, we.
Yeah, let's not forget. Look, again, I know we won, but it was a close game and we basically gave them three points early because we went for it on our own 28 when our offense was not doing
[00:34:27] Speaker B: anything, not moving the ball.
[00:34:29] Speaker A: And that's. Everybody in the world knows it's going to be a run in our offensive line has not created any openings for anybody in two weeks.
[00:34:38] Speaker B: I will also say too, again, not getting in front of our skis here, but the conditions were as poor as possible for a two minute drive where you had to score a touchdown because
[00:34:53] Speaker A: they still almost did.
[00:34:55] Speaker B: When they started gameplay, it was kind of fine. The field was just wet and a little mucky.
By the time we hit second and third down, it was a torrential downpour again.
[00:35:06] Speaker A: Tsunami.
[00:35:07] Speaker B: It was a straight up tsunami. So the fact that like they struggled throwing the ball there at the end of the game, you know, it all worked. You know, all those things worked in our favor. Right. I don't know if the lightning hadn't come in and delayed the game we went before it really started raining there. I don't know if that defense would have stopped them as they were driving on that final drive.
[00:35:30] Speaker A: Well, yeah, that's what I was going to say. I mean, they still almost got there.
Yeah, they got all the way down to the 12 at one point before they started going backwards.
But yeah, and they were at the 12. It was first in 10 at the 12 with two timeouts left and 45 seconds. They were in pretty good shape until
[00:35:49] Speaker B: they, they had a pedal other than the torrential downpour.
[00:35:52] Speaker A: Well, that's what I mean. And then that happened and there was a penalty and it got, it got icky. But I mentioned we would talk about special teams because we love our special teams here. Hey, Schmidt.
That's where I was going with this. Thank you. Yeah, yeah. Andre Schmidt did not miss Schmidt.
And again, I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it raining throughout part of the earlier. During the earlier parts of the game as well?

Look, since those early struggles, he's, he's been good.

The NFL is a fickle lady when it comes to kickers because I've seen really good kickers have really good seasons, two or three in a row, and then go through a spell where they have, you know, two or three misses over a couple of weeks and they find themselves Unemployed.

We had. Our returners were so God awful last year that it just.

Yeah, we're following along with Myles Garrett and Ninjoku, and it did suck to see him go. But here's the deal, Kenny. You cover this all the time. I'll take it this time. Since. Since you talk about it enough.
We're all bummed to see these guys go.
You know, those are guys that you look at, you think of as Cleveland Browns players through and through.
The Browns don't win.
So if we're not winning, why do you hang on to these players to keep them playing and think you're just gonna. What's the definition of insanity, Kenny?
[00:42:14] Speaker B: Yeah, you just keep doing it over and over and over again. And we would watch Myles Garrett have double digit sack seasons over and over and over again and it meant nothing
[00:42:22] Speaker A: because this team wanted Browns win three, four or five games. So yeah, I mean at that point you need to turn that into assets. You need to try and build the team because obviously the team, the team is not good. So regardless of how good, how, how. Regardless of how many hall of Famers you might have on your team, the overall team is not good. So you got to move on and you got to get better.
[00:42:45] Speaker B: It's not to say that they were either one of them were even a problem. Right. I think it's to say that the. Despite Miles Garrett's greatness, this team was still going nowhere and in. Joku certainly was less prolific than Miles in his time here, but certainly a fan favorite. You know, it was one of those guys we were always glad to have on the team, had some amazing catches and some amazing plays in his time here. But despite that, he never, he never moved the needle for this team in a meaningful way.
I would say, you know, certainly, you know, we watch the NFL, right. So you're always going to follow these guys.
Right now Miles Garrett is out for several weeks because he's having knee surgery and, and Joku left on a cart I think today. So feels bad for both of those guys. But you know, as Ronnie James pointed out, right. Like it's time to get assets where you can and rebuild because the guy who cannot win dog of the week and is banned in perpetuity from winning dog of the week took three first round draft picks from us. So we haven't had a chance, we haven't had assets to rebuild this team and try and come up with complimentary talent to put around guys like Njoku and Miles Garrett.
[00:44:00] Speaker A: Fair throw up that last question, Kenny.
No, the answer is no. Nothing would have changed. I mean, if you really think, and this isn't me, I say if you. I'm not attacking you hippie picks. I apologize. It came off like that already. But if you think that Todd Monken is the difference with these guys and somehow keeping those guys would have catapulted us to some sort of playoff or super bowl run, I'm just going to call bullshit on that. Like, it's just not happening. This team is not that good.
[00:44:34] Speaker B: I would say this. I do think if Jim Schwartz were your head coach, there's less of a chance they would have moved on from Miles Garrett.
[00:44:43] Speaker A: Yeah. And no, no word on that yet.
We're working on it.
[00:44:50] Speaker B: Am I not supposed to highlight that one?
[00:44:52] Speaker A: No, you don't have to. That's. That's for us.
But yeah. Kenny, final thoughts this week?
[00:45:00] Speaker B: Yeah, again, my, my final thoughts are just around Todd Bunk and, and Deshaun Watson. Right. Like these kind. These two are now kind of intertwined forever.
And I think it's really easy to be prisoner of the moment and go, hey, the Browns won. Things are, we're turning the corner. Things are going to be great.
You know, I don't care how many hands Todd Monkin slaps or how many F bombs he drops in a press conference to make it seem like he's a blue collar ass kicker. And he gets us because if he wins four games here this year, he's going to be out on his ass at the end of the season. And, and DeSean Watson had one game that he played well in out of 22 over four or five years.
That's just not good enough. I don't expect him to bring that every week like he did this week. If he does great, I would be happy to have him prove me wrong. But you know what I would also say, even if he does prove me wrong and he goes out and has 8, 9, 10 good weeks of football and the Browns win half their games this year, I still don't think he's a part of this team's future plans. I guess nothing is beyond them at this point. They made him the start quarter this year, so why not sign the guy to an extension and give him another $200 million? But I would have to think, even if he played relatively well, good enough, that maybe somebody else was interested in him and he did have an NFL future outside of Cleveland, that this front office can't sell that back to the fans and go, we're going to resign him. So I think this is almost like the worst case scenario of a Browns win, right? Because maybe desean Watson is okay and maybe the Browns do win half their games this year. And he's also still not a part of your future plans for next year. So you still need a quarterback going into next year. You don't know if Shador Sanders is any good. We know Dylan Gabriel sucks and we still probably have to pick a Quarterback first overall in the draft and tie those two draft picks together to get them. Because we're going to be picking 12th or 13th because you won seven games.
[00:46:59] Speaker A: So it's like worst case scenario.
[00:47:01] Speaker B: It's the worst case scenario. The best case scenario is if the Browns weren't going to win the super bowl this year, that you do put yourself in the top three picks and you do find out whether or not Shador Sanders can play. And if the answer to both of those questions is is no. Like the Browns only won three games and Shador Sanders can't play, it makes it really easy to draft Arch Manning or whoever you want first overall. I don't even know if he won Arch at this point. He didn't play well. Great again this week. But, but again, I just my, my final thought, I guess to summarize everything that I've been talking about is just, you know, be cautious of prisoner of the moment. It feels good. Enjoy the win. It's better than a loss. We love the Browns. We love when they win.
This just muddies the water for what the rest of the season looks like, and it muddies the water for the future of this organization if the Browns, you know, go on and win seven, eight games this year. And DeSean plays all right like he did today.
But my expectations are that we probably won't see that desean, because I think today was as good as desean can play because his back was up against the wall to a degree that it's never been before.
And he, you know, kind of got the monkey off of his back today. Right. You've. You, you beat Baker in the old revenge game and you got Todd Monk in his first win, so keeps the Browns from going winless in the event that things really go south here over the next several weeks. But, you know, just, just I, I think it just kind of cool it on the, like, hey, this is the turning point of the Cleveland Browns talk. I don't know that we're there yet.
[00:48:33] Speaker A: I like that. I asked you for a final thought and then you went on rambling thoughts and then you're like. So to sum it all up, I had this thought and then you expounded, expanded for five more minutes.
[00:48:43] Speaker B: Look, I can't help it.
[00:48:44] Speaker A: It's fine. I get it. I, I've been a Browns fan, I've been co host with you for long enough. I know how it goes. I just think it's funny sometimes.

My final thought is this. I'm actually going to leave everybody with a bold prediction here.
The first part of it's not bold.
The first part of it is desean Watson starts next week. Desean Watson will get booed throughout the game in Cleveland.

You can say it's personal. You can say it's whatever, that's fine. It is personal.
You were signed for $230 million and you have now had one good game as a Cleveland Brown.
So, yeah, you're going to get booed. It's going to be relentless. It's going to be worse than it was last time for the preseason game because now everything's gone down. And I know that you like to think because you had this one good game for the Cleveland Browns, all's forgiven.
Like, no, you've played shit quarterback for the last four or five years, so it's not going to be forgiven. You're going to get booed. And here's the bold prediction as he goes out after the game and he crybabies again.
[00:50:00] Speaker B: I can see that happening in his
[00:50:02] Speaker A: post game press conference. He's not going to be able to hold it back. And instead of doing what every other quarterback, every other professional in the world should do and just eat it and say, yep, they booed me, whatever, don't even comment on it. Just be like, you know, it is what it is. If you say anything, just say it. Something like that.
What he's gonna do is he's gonna go out, he's going to get booed, he's going to play poorly, the Panthers are going to hump the Browns, and then he's going to go into the press conference and let everybody know that the reason why he's playing so poorly is because the fans won't stop booing him.
