Show Notes

Welcome back for episode 157 of the Burning River Sportscast, where our patience is thin, our rants are unfiltered, and our predator quarterback is making $12 million a game to throw balls directly into the dirt. This week, Kenny Thunder, Red Hot Ronnie Jams, The Bone Man, and special guest "Big Dew Dawg" dive headfirst into the absolute clown show that is the Cleveland Browns front office. We're unpacking the tone-deaf, diamond-flashing masterpiece of a press conference where Deshaun Watson proudly declared he has "no regrets"—right before we contrast him with the ultimate classy retirement of model citizen and absolute legend Nick Chubb. Spoiler alert: One of them would be booed even if he returned 15 years from now to smash a guitar and the other will be in the Ring of Honor. But it's a true emotional rollercoaster today. We take a meaningful timeout to honor a real community hero, our late high school coach George Wetzel. We share some hilarious, fond memories of his "tough love" style—including the time he completely forgot he punished one of us to run laps for three and a half hours. Finally, Kenny gets "Gassed Up" over his recent dinner at Steak and Shake, which has apparently mutated into a dystopian sci-fi nightmare where you need a QR code scanner just to pour a Diet Coke. Stick around for a wildly tumultuous history lesson on the litigious cold war between Hershey's Chocolate and Hershey's Ice Cream, and find out how you can win a signed Bernie Kosar jersey!

Episode Highlights:

  • The $230M Albatross: Why Cleveland fans have officially entered the "apathy and rage" stage of the Watson era.

  • Nick Chubb vs. The Circus: The glaring contrast between a silent, 5-yard-per-carry superstar and a tone-deaf PR disaster.

  • Remembering Coach Wetzel: A heartfelt tribute to a great motivator who loved history, shaped young minds, and handed out legendary punishments.
  • Kiosk Warfare: Kenny's personal mission to stick it to the man at the self-service beverage fountain.
  • Jersey Giveaway: Lock in your chance to win autographed memorabilia before the October 18th deadline.

Warning: This episode contains unfiltered adult language, extreme sports frustration, and explicit talk about butthole-waxing bet penalties.

All this and so much more and we break it all down for you right here on the Burning River Sportscast!

[00:00:00] Ronnie Jams: Tapping media. [00:00:22] Kenny Thunder: It's time. Time for the Burning River Sportscast. Guys, I'm having a really hard time with this one. I've been ruminating to find the words to describe, to reconcile everything that's happened. Frankly, I don't know that I can do justice to the spectrum of emotions that have been stirring within me. This might get a little personal and even a little disrespectful. On one hand, there's the player who has rarely if ever been available. When he's been available, he's been ghastly. Some of the worst quarterback play we have ever seen in a town where we've seen an abundance of poor performances for two and a half decades. And his efforts, if you can call them that, are right there at the very top of that list. On the other hand, there's the contract. $230 million guaranteed. Guaranteed. Unprecedented. Then and now, frankly. Three first round draft picks, a contract and a trade so bad that it has single handedly been an albatross for this team. It can be argued that this trade has been more damaging to the franchise than Art Modell moving the team to Baltim. On a third hand, for those of you who have one, there's the person. Arrogant, selfish, tone deaf, delusional. A man who settled more than two dozen sexual assault cases, who served an NFL suspension based on their findings that despite no criminal charges, he almost assuredly was responsible for some level of sexual impropriety. Who has never shown an ounce of remorse, has never apologized and never taken any accountability. Yet he has the gall, the brazenness, nay, the audacity to lecture these fans, this city, our city, to somehow claim victimhood for himself, that he was made uncomfortable, that he felt disrespected. You are a terrible quarterback. You are a worse human. In fact, you're a child. And every ounce of frustration, of animosity, of loathing that you feel has been earned both professionally and personally. You are owed nothing. Don Draper said it best. [00:02:43] Ronnie Jams: That's what the money is for. [00:02:46] Kenny Thunder: We'll break it all down for you next on the Burning River Sportscast. You are a professional athlete making $230 million and 10,000 fans at a preseason game got under your skin. [00:03:04] Ronnie Jams: And then you came in and were the shittiest quarterback we've ever seen. [00:03:07] Kenny Thunder: I have no regrets. [00:03:09] Ronnie Jams: Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. [00:03:10] Kenny Thunder: No regrets. [00:03:11] Ronnie Jams: Not a single regret. [00:03:12] Kenny Thunder: Not a single one. Not a single letter. [00:03:15] Ronnie Jams: And it's made me look like a big asshole for even trying to defend you. [00:03:18] Kenny Thunder: Well, you are a big asshole. [00:03:19] Ronnie Jams: Well, that's fair. [00:03:20] Kenny Thunder: What the hell would be the difference? [00:03:21] The Bone Man: I have fond memories of the circus. I have zero fond memories of the Cleveland Browns. [00:03:27] Kenny Thunder: Fate intervened and made the decision that weak minded soft penis coaches wouldn't make on their own. You ever had Hershey's chocolate? Have you ever had Hershey's ice cream tea? [00:03:44] The Bone Man: Yeah. [00:03:45] Ronnie Jams: Have you ever had the Hershey Squirts? [00:03:48] The Bone Man: See? [00:03:49] Ronnie Jams: Oh, yeah, Lion. [00:03:56] Kenny Thunder: And it moves us up. That's pretty good. [00:04:02] Ronnie Jams: Where was that guy going? [00:04:04] The Bone Man: That was Harmony. [00:04:05] Ronnie Jams: It's the Circle. The Circle. Circle. [00:04:17] Kenny Thunder: Welcome in to the Burning River Sportscast presented by the fine folks at Tappin Media. I'm Kenny Thunder. He's worse at life than DeSean Watson is of throwing a football. He's read out Ronnie Jams. Come on, man on the boards today. He's never had a happy ending, but he's the start of every happy beginning. He's the big Bo. [00:04:34] Big Dew Dawg: That's true. [00:04:35] Kenny Thunder: Nice bone. [00:04:37] Big Dew Dawg: You're. [00:04:37] Kenny Thunder: You're a big Disney guy, right? You like going to Disney? [00:04:40] The Bone Man: Yeah, I've been there a couple times. [00:04:42] Kenny Thunder: The Avengers. They're everywhere these days. You know, theme parks, TV shows. Who's your favorite Avenger 2012? [00:04:49] The Bone Man: Does the Punisher count? [00:04:51] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, it does. [00:04:51] Kenny Thunder: Is he an Avenger? [00:04:52] Ronnie Jams: He will be. [00:04:53] Kenny Thunder: You know, frankly, I'm shocked they don't use the Hulk more in advertisements. He's basically one big banner. [00:05:00] Ronnie Jams: Good one. [00:05:02] Kenny Thunder: Back to red Hot. [00:05:03] Ronnie Jams: Where that was what that whole joke led up to. Jeez. [00:05:06] Kenny Thunder: Where can our listeners find the dopest. Apparently I've been off this year. Where can our listeners find the dopest dope they ever heard on a podcast? Number Football Cap Podcast. All good podcasts and the official podcast of dozens of Cleveland Brownsbackers around the world. And the unofficial podcast of Cleveland Brownsbackers everywhere. Pain, loss of pain. The news story of the week, the burning of a rundown, gassed up a king of the north update, and oh, so much more. So strap in because this episode will come complete with a long, hard, happy ending. Helping of DeShawn Watson talk. It's uncomfortable and nobody wants to talk about it, but it's gonna happen and you can't escape it. Much like a masseuse in a Houston hotel room, you're trapped. And if you don't like it, then get in line because 20 plus other people are saying the exact same thing. But who is everyone gonna believe? I'm sorry, that might have been a little too on the nose. I'm sure desean is going to let everyone know that it's clearly personal and totally disrespectful. Well, you know what, Deshaun Watson, it doesn't matter what you think. You lost all your privileges voicing your opinion when you were accused by so many women of being a sexual deviant piece of shit human being. And then you lost it again when you came to Cleveland to the tune of $230 million guaranteed with a chance at redemption just to give us some of the shittiest QB play that we've ever seen in this city. And this is Cleveland. I have so much more to say on this topic, but we're actually going to save it for later in the show. Right now, let's get things started with the Burning river news story of the week. All right, guys, the Bernie river news story of the week. I'm going to take it back to high school for us. We want to take a moment and recognize someone that was very special to all of us on the show. Growing up, we all went to the same high school together, played football on Friday nights for four years together. And sometimes, you know, throughout your athletic career, throughout your academic career, you meet someone that has a profound impact on you in the form of a teacher, a coach, what have you. For all of us, one of those people passed away this past week after a short but valiant battle with cancer. George Wetzel, longtime teacher and coach in the field, local school district, went home to be with God and will be missed by more people and in greater quantity than he could ever possibly know. It's hard to put into words what he meant to everyone who is blessed enough to have him as an influence growing up. So instead of trying to do that, I just want to go around the room here. Everybody tell a quick story about Mr. Wetzel. Whoever wants to start can go ahead and start. [00:08:08] Kenny Thunder: I could start. I just, and I don't have a particular story. I just, I think for me it was more about the way Mr. Wetzel made us feel. He was somebody who took his job so seriously. Not in a serious, like stern way, [00:08:26] Ronnie Jams: like seriously matter of fact, he's one of the most fun guys. [00:08:28] Kenny Thunder: He just knew how important his role was in shaping young minds. He loved history and social studies and wanted to pass that on to, to the kids to have that same just appreciation for where we are, how we've got here, where we're going. And certainly as a coach, you know, that was a whole nother level. [00:08:50] Big Dew Dawg: Right. [00:08:51] Kenny Thunder: I mean this guy was just, just genuine and warm. We spent an exorbitant amount of time with him because he was a position coach for Red Hot Ronnie Jams and I. So you know, we got quick, quick [00:09:06] Ronnie Jams: aside he receivers coach and Mr. What's [00:09:09] Kenny Thunder: probably least likely to play wide receiver just based on body type. [00:09:13] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, but he was our wide receivers coach. [00:09:16] Kenny Thunder: He was. [00:09:17] Ronnie Jams: And he took it seriously. [00:09:18] Kenny Thunder: He took it so seriously. And just, just the funny one liners, the silly things that he would say, but also just was a motivator, a guy that could just get your gears, you know, running and you know, just a tremendous loss for the community. Right. I mean, this guy taught and coached for a really long time in the district, touched a lot of people and it's just, it's really, really sad. [00:09:42] Ronnie Jams: One of the latest things that he did right before he passed away was he actually brought flag girls, flag football to field high school. And he was supposed to be the head coach going into this inaugural season. They were able to find somebody to take the position for him. But to your point, I mean, he always had the kids in development and everything else, first and foremost in everything he did. And yeah, I mean, just to your point, my, my story kind of piggybacks off of yours because like you said, he was our position coach. Right. And I know I've told this story before on the show, but I'm gonna tell it again because it's the best Mr. Wetzel story of all time. And it was our position, he's our position coach at wide receiver. I was hurt to start our senior year. I got hurt in our training camp. Had a partially torn quad, was sitting out during 2A days and everything. And I was helping him throw to all the. Everybody was running routes and for whatever reason, I don't really know why it happened, but everybody in the, in the receiving line started speaking Spanish. [00:10:49] Kenny Thunder: Well, I know the reason it was because you and I were in Spanish class, and we started speaking Spanish. [00:10:53] Ronnie Jams: Well, we started it, and all the underclassmen started speaking Spanish. And finally, Mr. Wetzel had enough of it. And he said, and I quote, next person to speak Spanish is running for the rest of practice. And of course, me, the asshole, cocky little high school asshole that I was, immediately, without thinking, said, los yento mayo hablo ingles. And he said, atkins, go run. And I was like. But I got a torn. He's. I don't care. Go run. And so he sent me off to the sideline to run. And I'm just running laps around our practice field. Okay, well, this goes on for. This is 2A days, right? So I run for the rest of the first practice, through lunch and the entire second practice. And finally, when we get back to the receivers group, at the end of the second practice, Mr. Wetzel looks at the rest of the receivers. He goes, where's. Where's Ronnie at? And I think it was you that said, coach, he's still running. [00:11:52] Kenny Thunder: Told him to run and not stop running. [00:11:55] Ronnie Jams: And I was. If nothing else, I was very good at following directions from our football coaches. And finally he calls me over, and he's like, what are you doing? And I'm like, you told me to run. And so, yeah, I ran. I ran for, like, three and a half hours on a torn quad. [00:12:10] Kenny Thunder: He absolutely forgot about you. [00:12:11] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah. [00:12:12] Ronnie Jams: 100. He kind of. This is the part of the story I don't really tell us. He actually did. After practice. He kind of pulled me aside. He's like, hey, I'm really sorry. He's like, that was not intentional. You know, thank you for basically saying, you know, that it's amazing that you would take the time, you would actually follow through with running and just keep doing it without asking questions, whatever. And, you know, good leadership. Talk to me about that and a lot of other things. But, yeah, it was just. It was one of the funniest. Like, looking back, we talk about it now to this day. Every time I saw Mr. Wetzel, we talked about that. And it was just one of the funniest things that's ever happened to me. Coming from Mr. Wetzel. [00:12:47] Kenny Thunder: I just remember when he was pregnant, he was pregnant. His wife was pregnant with their. Their first. And he just was so proud. [00:12:55] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:12:56] Kenny Thunder: So happy. I don't know. It just, you know. [00:13:01] Ronnie Jams: Bone, you got a story. [00:13:03] The Bone Man: Yeah, well, kind of just adding on to what you guys have said, you've kind of hit it as far as, like, accountability and discipline. And he was Like a father, essentially. And he held his players accountable. He disciplined us when we needed it, but he did it in a loving way, which is important, which is super important, because a well disciplined child is a love child because. And that's so important for so many people who may not even have a father figure at home. But he took that responsibility and he upheld that to, like, the highest, I think. And so, yeah, just like, it was like my junior year, I was playing linebacker, and we were playing this kid from Crestwood, Alan Vanderink, and he was so fast, and I could not fill the hole for the life of me to stop this kid. Like, the whole first half, he was just. I couldn't get to him. He was. He just. He hit the hole fashion, and I could get there, and it was just not good. So Mr. Wetzel was also my position coach on defense. So at halftime, I just. [00:14:04] Ronnie Jams: I vividly remember, just to put that into perspective, he was a wide receivers coach and a middle linebackers coach. [00:14:10] The Bone Man: Yeah, he. He fit the middle linebacker role a [00:14:14] Ronnie Jams: lot better than White. [00:14:15] Kenny Thunder: He could have played middle linebacker. [00:14:16] The Bone Man: Fantastic coach and just. Yeah, excellent human being. But he. He just pulled me aside. He's like, zach, come over here. And he, like, brought me over to this, like, wash basin sink in Crestwood's locker room. And he's like, throw some water on your face. I'm like, all right, I already know because I'm like, I'm. I'm messing up, you know, throughout the game. I'm not playing well, basically. And he was just like. He's like, step it up. Like, let's go, second half. Get back to it. And it was just like. It wasn't like, I'm disappointed in you or whatever. He was just like, you need to do better. And it was like. [00:14:51] Ronnie Jams: It was all in one short sentence. It was, I believe in you. I know you can do better. [00:14:56] The Bone Man: Exactly. [00:14:56] Ronnie Jams: Prove me right. [00:14:57] Kenny Thunder: It was what you needed in that moment. [00:14:58] The Bone Man: And that's one of those things that, you know, I always remember that, you know, going even into my senior year, like, he was a guy I wanted to play for. You'd run through a wall for. And I didn't see him much after high school, maybe once or twice. But, yeah, just a great human being. And, yeah, it's kind of hard to talk about. [00:15:16] Ronnie Jams: It is. And I will say, as you know, we're all fathers now. You know, fast forward 20 some. I don't want to date us, but 20 some years from high school, I [00:15:23] Kenny Thunder: don't want to date us either. [00:15:24] Ronnie Jams: Or almost 20 years from high school. And like you recognize that a lot more now, the fact that he was so good at striking that balance between the disciplinary that you needed, but also almost like a fun, loving friend that you also needed in different moments. He was really good at finding the balance that, I mean, I'll be honest, I struggle with it as a father every day. Like, it's tough for me to find that perfect balance of being light hearted, but also, like you said, giving the tough love when it's needed, it's just a difficult thing. And he did it so effortlessly. It was like his. That was his natural state. [00:16:06] The Bone Man: Yeah. [00:16:07] Kenny Thunder: And he was just very real. You know, you could talk to him about anything. [00:16:11] Ronnie Jams: Yes. He was one of the teachers and coaches that come like the, you know, anytime there was prom or whatever. And I know a couple of our coaches did this, but he was one of them. He'd put his number on the board and say, if anybody needs help, give me a call. [00:16:25] The Bone Man: Yeah. [00:16:25] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. [00:16:27] Ronnie Jams: And that's just the type of guy he was. So. Yeah, I mean, like you guys said, it's hard to talk about. It's. It's a huge loss for an entire community. I know a lot of people are hurting right now, so just want to say rest in peace to Mr. Wetzel. And with that, let's go ahead. And we're going to talk about our giveaway right now. That's right. For the fourth year in a row, we are giving away some autographed Browns memorabilia. This to kick off season five for us. Bernie, one more thing before we get to the Browns. Let me remind everybody call. Everybody call. Leave your hot take on the hot take hotline. These are hot takes. [00:18:15] Kenny Thunder: We want hot takes. We want hot takes. We want hot takes. [00:18:19] Ronnie Jams: 3,30-2278-0813-3022-7808, 333-0227-808133-02278, 081- call now. We want your takes, and that'll take us to the Burning River Rundown. All right, so to start off the Burning River Rundown, there was more preseason action the Browns took on the Bills at home. Listen, I. I know there's a lot bigger things to talk about that we already alluded to at the top of the show, so I'm gonna go through this game as quickly as possible, hit all of the things that I think needed. Needed to hit. But besides that, we'll. We'll get to the big news here shortly. Browns took on the Bills at home. The for. On offense, Shador got the start. Not that that really mattered. On the starters really played besides Shador. So he was 9 of 11 for 74 yards, one touchdown, one interception, one sack for zero yards. So it's just kind of like no gain. Still sack, though. And then Watson did get in too many boosts. [00:19:24] Kenny Thunder: Just a few. [00:19:25] Ronnie Jams: He was 5 of 12 for 36 yards, no touchdowns, one interception. So really, really poor effort out of him. Next up, our Running backs average 3.1 yards per carry, so they're really doing well. And then wide receivers, neither of the young guys played the two. The two rookies played. Cause let's be honest, they're the starters. They're the futures of this position. [00:19:48] Kenny Thunder: So the running game is going really well, by the way. No, it's not. So. Well. [00:19:52] Ronnie Jams: No, it's not. [00:19:53] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. And. [00:19:54] Ronnie Jams: And it's concerning because, again, I know a lot of the starters didn't play, but there's no depth at offensive line. So even if you do get a decent performance out of the starting offensive line this year, like, this is the depth. So as soon as one guy goes down, we're staring down the barrel of the same thing we've seen for the past couple years here, and it's not good. [00:20:14] Kenny Thunder: When Dylan Gabriel got in the game, KT Levinstein went offsides like three times in a ro. [00:20:22] Ronnie Jams: You actually, you texted me during the game and you're like, instantly. Three pre snap penalties. [00:20:27] Kenny Thunder: Well, they've talked so much as a team about operation and game day operation and getting in and out of the HUD hole and getting things right at the line of scrimmage. And we know Dylan Gabriel. He's not taller to ride the Millennium Force, but we know that he's a supercomputer and that he processes information so quickly and he's just so smart. You would think that he could get guys in and out of the huddle and immediately on his first series. 3 pre snap penalties. [00:20:52] Ronnie Jams: I need to send AI through our podcast and just have it take out and make a montage of every single Dylan Gabriel joke we've ever told. Because it would be glorious. Yeah, I mean, not good. You would think that with all they've preached on pre snap, like, you know, getting them to the line, getting everything done efficiently, on time, on schedule, whatever you want to call it. Shador would have the inside track on the. The starting job because, you know, he's the only quarterback that's able to do that with them. [00:21:22] Kenny Thunder: Right. You might think that you'd be wrong. [00:21:25] Ronnie Jams: We'll get to that in a minute. But yeah, on defense, they weren't good. They gave up 31 points. [00:21:32] Kenny Thunder: It's almost the exact same score as last week. [00:21:34] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, and let's go there for a second. The Browns have lost the preseason games this year, a combined 65 to 17. Yeah, I know there's a lot of backup play here, but guys, 65 to 17. We might legitimately go 0:17 this year. It might happen. [00:21:53] Kenny Thunder: I mean, the only thing that I can hang my hat on is that we. [00:21:56] Big Dew Dawg: We. [00:21:56] Kenny Thunder: You're not playing a lot of starters. I mean, obviously the. [00:22:00] Ronnie Jams: So we would have got beat worse. [00:22:01] Kenny Thunder: The bottom 22 are just as important as the top 22. But I mean, yeah, just a really poor showing. I mean, in both presets. [00:22:09] Ronnie Jams: That's what I would argue is, is if the starters are playing, we might have got be. [00:22:15] Kenny Thunder: I mean, it's possible Caleb Williams didn't play and Josh Allen didn't play. [00:22:19] Ronnie Jams: Right. [00:22:20] Kenny Thunder: Things could be a lot worse. [00:22:22] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, the only standout for me in this game, and you guys could tell me if you have any standouts, but was Austin Barber at right guard. He was fantastic in this one 34 snaps. He had a high PFF grade. I think it was like 87.3 somewhere around there. And no pressures Allowed, which was fantastic. So like he was. He's a rookie and that's somebody that going forward that may be a depth piece or even a starter by the end of the season. [00:22:48] Kenny Thunder: But I, you know, I hate to even mention this name because he's been a camp hero for two years in a row. But Luke Floria, and it wasn't like he had a huge day. [00:22:59] Ronnie Jams: He was going to be on the roster last year and then he got hurt. So. [00:23:01] Kenny Thunder: True. It wasn't like he had a huge day statistically. But the touchdown reception to me stood out because I think watching the play, it's really easy to underestimate the difficulty of that catch where you are basically standing still. And as a wide receiver, especially in the NFL, a lot of everything that you do is based on timing and anticipation and routes. And so to be flat footed when that ball is lasered into the back of the end zone, I thought was just a very, just a very impressive effort to come down with it because I think once he caught it, you kind of saw him almost lean like. Like he was trying to lead himself, but he was standing flat footed. [00:23:39] Ronnie Jams: So it was, I thought to be moving or hit. [00:23:41] Kenny Thunder: I thought despite the way that that play looked very plain. I thought it was a very difficult catch and an impressive one. [00:23:47] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Bone, did anybody stand out to you in the game? [00:23:50] The Bone Man: Honestly, not really. I saw the. [00:23:53] Ronnie Jams: He turned on Scottish, did it again. I don't know if he did. [00:23:57] The Bone Man: I didn't. No. Well, the rain delay kind of messed with me because I was following. They're like, it probably won't come back till 2:30. So I come back at 2:30 and the first quarter's over. I was like, well, shoot, shoot. I guess they started the game a lot sooner. [00:24:08] Ronnie Jams: Everybody that you wanted to see, I [00:24:09] The Bone Man: saw, I saw that touchdown to Luke Floria from Shador. So I saw that end of that drive. That was pretty much the extent of my, my viewing of the game because I just don't care about preseason. [00:24:22] Ronnie Jams: That's fair. [00:24:22] Kenny Thunder: Michael Coates. [00:24:23] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, let's not sugarcoat it, guys. Like we. The preseason sucks. [00:24:27] Kenny Thunder: Michael Coates is another one that I feel like played well in both games, you know, as kind of the backup, as kind of like depth at defensive back, which is a position they're a little thin at. You know, I think that's. It's an encouraging sign anyway. At least his. He was putting his head on the ball, so. Yeah. But not a lot to write home about in either one of these games, right? They were very, very Poor performances as a team. There's not a lot else to say. [00:24:54] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Next up, New England on Thursday night. And does it really matter, guys? I think. I think two things here. One, let's just do law of averages. We're going to score around 30, they're going to score around 32 points. [00:25:06] Kenny Thunder: We're going to score 30, they're going [00:25:08] Ronnie Jams: to score 32 points. Points. And we're gonna score six, about eight. So it's another. Gonna be another blowout. My biggest thing is I just hope we get through this one as healthy as possible. [00:25:21] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. [00:25:21] Ronnie Jams: At this point, we're thin as a team as it is. We don't need any injuries. [00:25:25] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, I'm. I'm. The only thing that I have, like, anticipation for is I am interested to see Taylor Green. I think we'll see Taylor Green for the first time this preseason. [00:25:36] Ronnie Jams: So I think he'll play extensively. [00:25:37] Kenny Thunder: I don't know. You know what? He is obviously kind of a project kid, but probably will be on the roster for the next year or two at least. I mean, obviously there's a lot of questions at quarterback. We don't know what we're going to do at some point here, but he's just such an interesting. Because he's such. [00:25:52] Ronnie Jams: They know who their guy is. [00:25:53] Kenny Thunder: He's such an athlete that it'll be interesting to see, like, what he showcases on Thursday night. [00:25:58] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I mean, other than that, I think Bone said it best. Like, I don't really care about preseason, so. But okay, guys, it's. It's time. I mean, this is what this show, this particular episode of our show is about. This is what everybody is talking about. DeSean Watson, in his post game press conference basically cried. And at first he was asked about the booze from fans, and he said, among other things, he said, I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do with performance. It's a little bit more personal than that. So I think it's a disrespectful thing. He went on, talked about rehabbing for the past two years, working hard to get back for the fans, quote for the fans. Just a lot of just. I mean, honestly, that's really what it is, is crying about the fans and how they're treating him. He then was asked if he could overcome the negativity from Browns fans. And he said, I don't know. It's a mental battle. Every day. I feel like I get more love at road games than I do home games. This is the guy that we've been told is Fully recovered physically and mentally. [00:27:02] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, we've been told he's been fully recovered. We've been told he's been in the best headspace he's been in a long time. [00:27:07] Ronnie Jams: And this is the we get out [00:27:08] Kenny Thunder: of him that was. There were a lot of concerning things that he said. This was almost the most frightening. If you're a football coach, I don't care at any level when you, when your guy says flat out, my mental space is not right. Like, it got to me. It bothered me. You were a professional athlete making $230 million and, and 10,000 fans at a preseason game got under your skin and, and preseason game. [00:27:32] Ronnie Jams: Say that again with like maybe 7,000 fans cheering at or yelling at you. And here's the thing, and we'll get to some of the media reactions, some of the things that have been said around the league and everything else, but I think this is not talked about enough. As he said, I get more love on the road than I do at home. I'm gonna call right now because the entire league hates you, bro. Like everybody hates you. It's. The Browns fans tried at least to embrace you when you came here as much as they could. They were divided, very divided when you came here, and rightfully so, with all of the baggage that you brought along with you. But I think for the most part, the majority of Browns fans at least tried to swallow everything, no pun intended, and say, this is our quarterback. This is what we're dealt. We need to at least try to be open minded about this thing. And then you came in and were the shittiest quarterback we've ever seen. Seen. [00:28:30] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, I, I mean, I think, you know, he, he, he, he peed in the cereal, right? Like, this was the last population of football fans that had any reason to like you. And there's a fair amount of people that watch the game, that have watched Cleveland sports for a really long time that will live and die by the idea that you root for the name on the front of the jersey, right? So, like, you'll always have those people in your corner. But let's be real here. This was the last group of fans that like, truly tried and had to defend you for any length of time. And there are some, a very small number of those people that still are. But I, I can remember people in the, the muni lot during the suspension with, you know, freed DeShawn signs, right? Like it had turned the, the very serious allegations into kind of a joke, right? There were massage tables and towels and things and mannequins in the, in the muni lot. So those are still there? Well, neither here nor there. [00:29:31] Ronnie Jams: No, it's there, but, but this was [00:29:33] Kenny Thunder: the last like, bastion of like, people that have any reason to root for [00:29:37] Ronnie Jams: you, that wants you to do well. Vocabulary. [00:29:40] Kenny Thunder: Just, well, just, it's really truly what I mean. There's not a lot of them left. No, right across the NFL in every NFL stadium. I think the last time we were, they were in Jacksonville, they were chatting, they were shouting things like, you know, shut up, sicko or whatever. Like they were calling him pervert and all kinds of weird stuff. So he's not well liked around the league. We're the only fan group that has any reason to support you. And you torched them. [00:30:04] Ronnie Jams: Right. And, and the whole thing of it's not performance based is, is just mind boggling. Like, how tone deaf can you be? You've come out and you've been terrible, like, God awful. You're getting paid over $12 million a game on average because you've been hurt so much to come out here and be the worst quarterback. [00:30:22] Kenny Thunder: He's never come out and said that he's sorry for not meeting expectations that, that he acknowledging that he didn't play well. [00:30:30] Ronnie Jams: He did up to, yeah, we'll get [00:30:32] Kenny Thunder: after the whole thing. But up until that point, at no point did he ever come to the podium after a game and say, guys, I just didn't get it done today. Right, right. Like, and that's part of the issue is that there's been like, forget about the allegations and everything else, that we've never seen any accountability for the play is what I think we wanted to see accountability for, which is, guys, I didn't play my best, I need to play better and I'm going to work my ass off to do so. He's never once said, I think that's [00:31:00] The Bone Man: the biggest, the biggest thing with people because it's like if he would have played well, people would have embraced him. [00:31:07] Kenny Thunder: Sure. [00:31:07] The Bone Man: People would have loved him. [00:31:08] Ronnie Jams: Because what do we want in Cleveland? [00:31:10] The Bone Man: A winner. [00:31:11] Ronnie Jams: We want to win. [00:31:11] Kenny Thunder: And people want that anywhere. I think we've seen time and time again athletes, athletes get second chances. Athletes get second chances who are probably not great human beings. Right. But we're all willing to look the other way. And maybe that says more about us as people that watch sports. [00:31:28] The Bone Man: I'll own that because when he came here, I wasn't, wasn't thrilled about it. I liked Baker and my kind of thought was, well, I'm not going to get my Morality from Darshan Watson. But if you can win some football games, I'll root for him. [00:31:42] Ronnie Jams: And that was. I had, I had a lot. [00:31:43] The Bone Man: That was kind of my mindset. I was like, I'll give him a shot, right? We paid him all this money. Let's see what he can do. He was a top five quarterback, right? [00:31:50] Ronnie Jams: I was cautiously optimistic and I, we. You can rewind it and listen to our shows. I was cautiously optimistic, but I think that's what he doesn't understand is part of the reason why, why the booze are so loud now and why you hear it so much is so when you started here, you had a group of fans that already hated you. Guess what? Those guys still booing it along the way. Now you have a group of fans that defended you vehemently, like from the beginning, like when he first came here. They're like, no, desean's gonna be great. He's gonna be great. You've lost actually probably more than half of those fans now because you've been so poor. And those are actually probably the loudest booers because they staked their reputation on you. They. You know, when you talk about desean Watson, and I know he likes to try and say, we're going to focus on football, which we'll get to. We're going to focus on football from here on out. It's impossible to have the conversation of DeSean Watson and separate the football player from the person. [00:32:46] Kenny Thunder: Well, even if you did separate the person from the player, there's enough bad play that you can not like that guy. [00:32:52] Ronnie Jams: But that's my point is, is they go hand in hand. And so on the, on the front end, everybody that was defending you and was even cautiously optimistic, like you said, you weren't. You weren't basing your morality on it. Like, you weren't getting your morality from Deshaun Watson. However, to even make that stand and say you're cautiously optimistic when he's coming in, people question your morality because they're like, how can you support this guy? And so the fact that all of those people fell on their faces trying to give you a chance, I mean that, to me, I'm one of those people. I was somebody that was cautiously optimistic, and now everybody questioned me as a person simply for saying this guy might be a good football player. And now you've gone and played football poorly, and it's made me look like a big asshole for even trying to defend you. [00:33:38] Kenny Thunder: Well, you are a big asshole. [00:33:39] Ronnie Jams: Well, that's fair. I mean, I'm not, I'm not denying that. [00:33:41] Kenny Thunder: I just, I just can't grasp the lack of self awareness to go, oh, I was booed. This sounds personal. Yeah. No joke. Like how many cases did you settle this. It wasn't because you stole from a lemonade stand. Right. Like the, the accusations against you were, were grave. They were very, very serious. And in, in the world, that is. Yeah. I mean say what you want about culture and politics today, like coming post metoo movement and cancel culture like that. The accusation alone makes you unpopular. Yes. Because it's, it's very serious. [00:34:20] Ronnie Jams: Even before that like you're, you're looking. [00:34:22] Kenny Thunder: It's never been popular to. [00:34:24] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:34:24] Kenny Thunder: Assault women sexually. [00:34:26] Ronnie Jams: I mean there's a. Yeah. It's. I just don't understand how he doesn't [00:34:32] Kenny Thunder: understand why some people might not like him. [00:34:35] Ronnie Jams: Right. [00:34:36] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. [00:34:36] Ronnie Jams: It doesn't make any sense. And then, but like I said, like you said, it is personal, but it's also performance because like half the people that are booing you has nothing to do with all this stuff. They gave you a t chance. But it's, it's more so the fact like you're not very good at football. [00:34:49] Kenny Thunder: We've, we've, we've, I mean, seen this [00:34:51] Ronnie Jams: play out over the course of four seasons so far. And you're not good. To your point. [00:34:54] Kenny Thunder: Right. The people that didn't like you for personal reasons already didn't like you. Never liked you and never will. Right. But there were people that were willing to defend you if you could play ball. The problem is you can't and you're washed and you're not going to play good football. [00:35:07] The Bone Man: And you won't acknowledge it. [00:35:08] Kenny Thunder: And you won't acknowledge it. DeShawn, we have watched you now for a couple years roll balls down the field. This is, it's not the. You got throw it overhand man. Like you can't throw balls in the dirt. It's. It's terrible. [00:35:21] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah. [00:35:21] Ronnie Jams: And so, so there was the, that was the post, post game press conference. It was one of, one of the worst I've ever seen. [00:35:27] Kenny Thunder: And the final thing that we didn't mention about the press conference that, that [00:35:31] Ronnie Jams: I found most concerning was him flashing all his diamonds and everything else to everybody. There's that too. [00:35:35] Kenny Thunder: Well, no, that was just goes along with the tone deafness of the whole. [00:35:39] Ronnie Jams: I do want to stop on that just for a second is because I was like, it seemed like every 30 seconds he was adjusting his watch or his earrings or something. I'm just like, like Are you literally trying to send the message, like, I've got 230 million guaranteed. Y' all can shut up. [00:35:51] Kenny Thunder: A little elitist. [00:35:52] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:35:52] Kenny Thunder: No. What I found most concerning was that he got up on that stage after everything else that he just said and said, I have no regrets. [00:36:01] Ronnie Jams: Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. [00:36:02] Kenny Thunder: No regrets. [00:36:04] Ronnie Jams: Not a single regret. [00:36:05] Kenny Thunder: Not a single one. Not a single letter. [00:36:07] Ronnie Jams: You don't have 27 regrets? [00:36:09] The Bone Man: Sure. [00:36:09] Kenny Thunder: Are you sure? Not a single regret. I mean, not 27. [00:36:14] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I guess. Yeah. [00:36:15] Kenny Thunder: I mean, even if you maintained your innocence through this whole thing, right. If you said, I didn't do it and this was all fabricated, you should still regret. [00:36:22] Big Dew Dawg: Do you. [00:36:23] Ronnie Jams: Not in that position? 27 times. [00:36:24] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. I mean, you on some level interacted with these girls and created the circumstances that surround you. So you don't even regret that. You don't regret the 19 games that you did play here, that you played like ass. I mean, there are so many things that. That even if the rest of your life was perfect, if you were Jesus Christ walking on water would at least go, I played poorly here. And I created a PR nightmare for myself and for two franchises that should be on a list of regrets somewhere in your life. [00:36:58] Ronnie Jams: At no point did I publicly make any attempt in any press conference anywhere to embrace the city and let them know, like, how much I loved them. Like, and I don't even care if it's true or not. Like, the fact that you, along with the. Let's not talk about my accusations, let's act like it never happened and you didn't even go the opposite route with it. Like, hey, I'm just here to play football. I love this city. I want to do good. Like, he didn't even say that. It was just like he was. When. When it wasn't the season, he was gone. He was you. You never saw him when it is the season. All he talked about was, I could have. He's. He basically said, I didn't play poorly. We just lost the game. Like, that's what you got. [00:37:37] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, I just. You know, how many times have we had this conversation about what a quarterback means to your football team? That you are wearing the CEO hat, right? Like you are the spokesman for a multi billion dollar franchise. And you don't have to have this, like, very diverse talk, track and address all kinds of things. You need to get up on stage after games and say a few things, right? You got to be positive about the team and pot and say, we're working harder. You know, if there's A problem, you can acknowledge it and say, we're gonna fit, fix it. That's pretty much it. Like, you don't have to go much deeper than that. There are 31 other guys that get up at that podium every Sunday, and that's all they say. They've been coached to say it. They're paid to say it, and they do it. What are you doing? You don't have to say anything else. [00:38:27] Ronnie Jams: It's a bad thing. When our CEO and spokesman for our. Our franchise is on a public list. [00:38:33] Kenny Thunder: I mean, we call it. [00:38:34] Ronnie Jams: Everybody can look at. [00:38:35] Kenny Thunder: We call it. We call it coach sportsman speak, and we call it politician speak for a reason. Right. You. You can say things without saying things, and that's all you're paid to do. Yeah. Not to let the emotions get the best of you. Not to do any of this editorializing on any of it. Right. Stay out of the spotlight, Push it away, insulate it. Make the problems go away. That's what the money's for. [00:38:58] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. And immediately after DeShawn's press conference, I actually was slightly encouraged because Todd Monkin came in and said, quote, it sucks. I don't want to get booed. It comes with the territory. You don't want to get booed that. If you don't want to get booed. Let's play good football. Let's play good at quarterback, on offense, as a team, and then you won't have to worry about all that. So I was like, oh, okay, yeah, Todd Monken gets it. At least there's that. Because in the past, that's not the type of things our coaches say. So we're starting out okay. And then you get the media reaction. Like, as soon as this happened, it was like a freshman frenzy. Literally everyone that's in media saying, you can't start this guy like you. You cannot name him the starter. I would say at least half of them are saying, you can't even play this guy. You got to make him a healthy scratch every week. And then a small percentage of them were saying, cut him immediately. A hundred million dollars plus dead cap doesn't matter, can't be damned. Just you gotta. You gotta rip the band aid off and move on. Like, that's how bad this was. Is that universally everybody, maybe point one percent was not saying that you can't play this guy. [00:40:08] Kenny Thunder: Shame on the Cleveland media for that interview of Todd Monken, because it was embarrassing the way they danced around what we all watched and what lit Twitter a fire or X or whatever, immediately, you know, to to basically let Todd Monkin off the hook, book by. By saying, you know, it's not going to factor into the decision. It's not going to be a week to week thing. Like, we're going to pick the guy that, you know, we've, we've done our evaluation all off. Like, no one was willing to press him and be like you do. You did hear what he said, right? Like, you think you can put him back in a Browns uniform on this field and that there's not going to be immense public backlash, that it's not going to be popular with the people that are paying for tickets and merchandise in this stadium. The taxpayers who fund the facilities like to not press him on. That was embarrassing. [00:41:03] Ronnie Jams: Spoiler alert. We'll get to everything that's been said since then, but nobody's pressed him on it still. [00:41:09] Kenny Thunder: Well, right. That's what I'm saying. Like, everybody went to Twitter and went on their monologues and their rants, but nobody would ask him a direct question. [00:41:16] Ronnie Jams: I was allowed to ask him questions. [00:41:17] Big Dew Dawg: I would. [00:41:17] Ronnie Jams: That's probably why we're not allowed to ask him questions. I would. I would venture to guess that's why. [00:41:22] Kenny Thunder: I mean, it's just so funny. There's so much made about Cleveland media and all, but it's so soft. I mean, if this was York or Philadelphia, somebody would have asked the question. [00:41:32] Ronnie Jams: Let me throw in here, too. In the midst of all this, Mary Kay Cabot came out and said that Deshaun Watson was being sabotaged because he had to go out with the third string and play poorly with all the third stringers. [00:41:44] Kenny Thunder: I mean, she's right about one thing. He wouldn't have been playing with a third stringer. See, if he would have gone out in the first couple series, you would have played with guys that are lower on the depth chart or higher on the depth chart. [00:41:52] Ronnie Jams: I just couldn't believe that she had the audacity to say that he was being sabotaged. I was like, are you kidding me? [00:41:57] Kenny Thunder: I mean, she is so like, you dip a toe in the water, see what the temperature is like. We had named Aan the starter. It gets worse every season, outplaying him. And now we're back to am I [00:42:08] Ronnie Jams: crazy or is that facts? Like it. It gets worse every season. Like just the. [00:42:13] The Bone Man: She wants to stay in the locker room. She wants to stay involved. So she'll say whatever they want. [00:42:17] Kenny Thunder: She's. She's a media hall of Famer at this point. She can do and say whatever she wants. Fair. [00:42:22] Ronnie Jams: So fast Forward. That was all Saturday. Fast forward to Sunday. Todd Monk and his press conference conference. Quote, I'm not going to let one half of football or one frustrating moment dictate what our decision is going to be and what's in the best interest of Brown of the Browns, especially in week one. All right. [00:42:38] Kenny Thunder: Which again, again, shame on the Cleveland media because how can you tell me why was the question not asked if desean is the quarterback? Justify that. Explain how he is putting the team in the best chance, in the best position to win. Because 5 of 12 or 36 yards and an interception and a guy that's rolling the ball to receivers doesn't quite look like the guy that's putting your team in the best position to win. [00:42:59] Ronnie Jams: No. [00:43:00] Kenny Thunder: Defend that for me, Todd. [00:43:02] Ronnie Jams: No. And this was where. I mean, that's. This was the moment where I was like, oh, God, this sounds like he's bracing us for. DeSean Watson is going to be the quarterback. And after an entire 24 hours, which was glorious for me, of all the talk of there's no way you can play to Sean Watson, I was like, thank fucking God. I texted you and I said, he might have done it to himself. [00:43:26] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah. [00:43:26] Kenny Thunder: Like, I mean, it was, it was so news. It was like front page newsworthy. Right. Like the lead story on SportsCenter. Newsworthy on every channel and on every social media platform. That was the, the common refrain, which is, you cannot play him. You cannot. You cannot start him. You cannot play him. He shouldn't even be on the sideline. [00:43:47] Ronnie Jams: Right. [00:43:47] Kenny Thunder: Cap be damned. You. This is, this is the paramount of tax system. Like, this is untenable to the nth degree. You cannot move forward with this guy. [00:43:58] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:43:58] Kenny Thunder: And in unison, basically everyone was saying, yep. [00:44:02] Big Dew Dawg: And. [00:44:02] Ronnie Jams: And not even 24 hours later, you got Todd Monkin walking it back already. And this was. We've kind of alluded to this all off season that Todd Monkins kind of a placeholder. He's not going to be here that long. He's not that great of a coach. Nobody wanted him. All of the above. And this cemented it for me. It's like this guy. Guy is not. He's nothing in terms of a leader of this football team. He's just a guy. [00:44:28] Kenny Thunder: I know you have not coached a single game yet. You have not won or lost in the NFL. But this was the one test that was on the board during your off season was. Was managing this quarterback conversation that turned into a competition that wasn't. [00:44:45] Ronnie Jams: Failed miserably. [00:44:46] Kenny Thunder: Failed with flying colors to me. There's nothing. I mean, Todd Monkin, if desean is gonna be the best player to lead this team, you better Damn well win 12 games this year. Anything less like, I. There's. There's no way that I can save you. I can't keep you here. This was such a spectacular fail in every imaginable way that it's embarrassing. [00:45:13] Ronnie Jams: Agreed. [00:45:14] Kenny Thunder: And so I. I don't know that I'm the first person to say this. I'll be the first person to the show, I guess. Fire Todd Monkin. I'm on fire. Todd Monkin. Watch point. I am. [00:45:25] Ronnie Jams: We didn't even make it to the season. [00:45:27] Kenny Thunder: I'm done with the guy. You had. You had one job, and you failed. This is the most important decision for any football team, and you have failed it with flying colors. [00:45:38] Ronnie Jams: Hashtag, no more Monking in the round. [00:45:39] Kenny Thunder: No more Monken in the round. [00:45:41] The Bone Man: Fire. [00:45:41] Kenny Thunder: I'm on fire. Todd Monkin. [00:45:43] Ronnie Jams: I'm in. [00:45:43] Kenny Thunder: I'm done with them. There's nothing he can do that. [00:45:46] Big Dew Dawg: That. [00:45:47] Ronnie Jams: I mean, I'm. Just Move me off. I was just. Always. A simple fact that there's, like, 67 best to get good years out of. [00:45:53] Kenny Thunder: If you can't figure this out, what should have been the easiest decision that you've ever made in your life as a football coach? You can't. You. You have completely missed. [00:46:04] Ronnie Jams: You know, this is why the movie Draft Day is just so. Damn. [00:46:09] Kenny Thunder: Kevin Costnery. [00:46:10] Ronnie Jams: It's just. It's just so inconceivable, like, it's not realistic, because Kevin Costner. What's. What's the number one thing he goes with in that he does all this homework on. On character of the. Of the player and everything. Like, it's the shit that the Browns literally never do. That's the one thing that maybe they should do more of it. Yeah. I don't know. Like, you put these two guys on paper, Shador Sanders and Deshaun Watson, and I know Shador is unpopular with a lot of people. He didn't really do anything wrong. [00:46:39] Kenny Thunder: We're not even saying Shador is the answer, right? [00:46:41] Ronnie Jams: Like, no, I'm not saying that at all. [00:46:42] Kenny Thunder: We're just saying he's maybe a smidge better than Deshaun, and desean is so bad that you can't play him, and there's no positive outcome of playing desean. [00:46:50] Ronnie Jams: Yep. So let's get. Let's get back on our timeline here. So Saturday, the initial press conference, Todd Monkin basically say, you don't want to hear those things. And play better. Then you got Sunday Todd Monk and walking it back saying, we're not going to let that decide our starting quarterback. Fast forward to Monday. Deshaun Watson comes out. Official apology. [00:47:12] The Bone Man: Is that what that was? Yeah. [00:47:13] Ronnie Jams: I mean, it was. I don't think he ever actually said, I'm sorry, but his official apology, I'm. I'm gonna paraphrase here, but he basically just said, I was emotional. I've put a lot of hard work these last two years in. I need to play better. I want to focus on football going forward. I want to do good things. And hopefully when we come back home in week three, the fans will have more to cheer about. So a couple things. Things here. A couple things. One, you basically just doubled down on everything he said. Like, that was the whole quote, unquote apology was. I still believe everything that I said. However, I will acknowledge that maybe I should play a little bit better football. Like, that was basically what you got into. I have three things here, so just wait for it. Two was, I want to focus on football going forward. Well, of course you do, because nobody wants to talk about the 27 sexual assault allegations have. So of course you want to focus on football. And three, I want to do good things. And hopefully when we come back home in week three, the fans will have more to cheer about. News flash, buddy. Ain't nobody cheering for you when you come home in week three. We could win both week one and week two. 42 to nothing. You get home, you're going to fucking hear it. [00:48:21] Kenny Thunder: People still don't like you. [00:48:22] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:48:25] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. I mean, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Marino. The one thing that. That they've always said about all the greats is they let their emotions get to them. [00:48:37] Ronnie Jams: Yep. Every single one of them. [00:48:39] Kenny Thunder: It's a pretty consistent trade of winners. [00:48:41] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Yeah. They're mentally soft. [00:48:48] Kenny Thunder: I mean, this guy, he just needs to stop talking. He needs to stop talking. There's. There's nothing good that he can. [00:48:55] Ronnie Jams: Who are his PR people? Dude's got $230 million. Who are your PR people that are putting together these statements? [00:49:01] Kenny Thunder: It's embarrassing. Look, I. You know, and I don't know if [00:49:04] Ronnie Jams: he goes rogue every single time. He's like, I had the script it the fans again, but I'll play a little bit better. [00:49:11] Kenny Thunder: The drive, the fumble, the shot, the decision, like, these were all, like, competitive failures and. And blemishes on Cleveland sports history that we all feel bad about. Days that live in infamy. This is right up there, except for this one was completely avoidable. [00:49:27] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:49:28] Kenny Thunder: Like, this is the most embarrassing thing that's happened to Cleveland in a really, really long time. And so the point where national sportscasters are getting on their podcasts and their talk shows and going, I feel bad for Cleveland Browns fans. [00:49:43] Ronnie Jams: We'll get there. We'll get to the media reaction here soon. So fast forward from the quote, unquote apology. And about an hour later, Todd Monken breaks the news to Sean DeShawn is the start harder quote. Deshawn gave us the best chance to move the ball and score points. Does this sound familiar? Have you guys heard this before? [00:50:02] Kenny Thunder: I said it in the open last week, right? It's like New Year, new nothing. It's the same. [00:50:08] The Bone Man: Same old same guys are writing the scripts. [00:50:11] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. So. So obviously we're talking about Stefanski. Last year, DeSean Watson gives us the best chance to win. [00:50:16] Kenny Thunder: We heard that Joe Flacco gave them the best chance to win. We heard that Dylan Gabriel brings up the perfect. [00:50:22] Ronnie Jams: Like, that's perfect segue because. Because what's Todd Monking gonna say in three weeks when Deshaun gets benched because he's asked like he always is, and Shador Sanders has to come in? Are you gonna tell me then? Well, we feel like he gives us the best chance to move the football and score points, I guess. Well, what the fuck changed in the last three weeks, you piece of shit? [00:50:38] Kenny Thunder: I. [00:50:39] Ronnie Jams: God, I'm so sick of this. [00:50:41] Kenny Thunder: I guess the thing is, at this point, nothing matters. Nothing matters, right? Like, this team, this quarterback, this front office, this ownership group, they all know they're untouchable. DeSean knows his contract is untradeable, and he's uncuttable. Jimmy's like, what are you gonna do, fire me? Andrew Berry's like, I put together the shittiest teams in the. In human history, and I still have a job, so. And Todd Monken's new here, but he's figuring it out. There's no, I can't. [00:51:11] Ronnie Jams: I'm 67 years old. He's figuring it out. [00:51:13] Kenny Thunder: I mean, these guys, it doesn't matter what they say because they don't live in the same reality that anyone else does. If they ran a business this way, they wouldn't just be out of business, they'd be in jail. [00:51:23] Ronnie Jams: Here's the best part about. [00:51:24] Kenny Thunder: It's criminal. The negligence that's gone on here. [00:51:26] Ronnie Jams: Here's the best part about Todd Monkin's press conference was he got a little fired up. When they asked, they. They basically, they did press him just slightly. They said what? How do you think this is going to go up? Just a little poke this. [00:51:40] Kenny Thunder: We want to fully press him, but we'll press him a little. [00:51:42] Ronnie Jams: I'm pretty sure this was the only question. He got on it and he, he said, ultimately they don't decide who plays. I mean, who. Meaning the fans. I mean, who would I be if I let someone outside of the building decide who. Who plays? [00:51:52] Big Dew Dawg: Huh? [00:51:53] Ronnie Jams: Like so you don't want to address at all the fact that he just all over your fan base, your entire fan base. The whole reason that all of you guys are paid, he just all over all of them. [00:52:04] Kenny Thunder: You might as well just draft a team full of punters. If it doesn't matter what the fans want. Just, just punt on every down. We're clearly not in it. We're clearly not in it to win, right? [00:52:13] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:52:14] Kenny Thunder: I mean, what the hell would be the. What the hell would be the difference? [00:52:16] Ronnie Jams: That Tiktoker would be so excited if we drafted all punters. I forget what his name is, but punts guy. [00:52:23] Kenny Thunder: If we don't care what the fans want, what is the point of this whole thing? [00:52:27] The Bone Man: I don't know. [00:52:27] Kenny Thunder: What is the point of the whole thing? Because the last time I checked, this was entertainment. I'm supposed to be entertained. And for that I hand you my cash, my hard earned cash that I worked for, I give to you in exchange for watching something on Sunday that makes me feel something about anything. [00:52:50] Ronnie Jams: Well, this is, this is where you didn't think this whole thing through because they decided to put the circus on the field. So it's entertainment, just not. [00:52:57] Kenny Thunder: I love the circus. And this is not the circus. [00:53:01] Ronnie Jams: The circus. [00:53:02] Kenny Thunder: It is a clown show, but it is not a circus. [00:53:05] The Bone Man: I have fond memories of the circus. I have zero fond memories of the Clinton. [00:53:12] Ronnie Jams: I mean, that's kind of where we're at. So you mentioned the media reactions. Dan Orlovsky is who you were talking about. He came out and he said, I am shocked. I feel awful. For the fans of the Cleveland Browns, this was a sentiment that was shared almost universally by all the, all of the media. There's so many memes out there right now. You know, just go, literally just look at brown stuff right now. You'll. You'll see memes upon memes upon memes of Deshaun Watson. Just on the brown stuff. [00:53:37] Big Dew Dawg: Just. They've. [00:53:37] Kenny Thunder: They've done it again. They've made Cleveland a laughing stock again. It's embarrassing. [00:53:41] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. And so, yeah, I mean, it's Just wild to me. And then on the flip side, you actually, to, to my surprise, you have some, particularly in the Cleveland media, that are somehow turning this on the fans. And I don't understand. It's not. I'm going to, I'm going to say his name. It's Chef Zay, who's become popular in the last couple of years here. Uber popular. I mean, congratulations to him. He's doing good things, he's got a good show, whatever. [00:54:07] Kenny Thunder: Good for him. [00:54:08] Ronnie Jams: But he came out and said he's not sure how the fan base got here. He said this is not the Browns fans that he knows, et cetera, et cetera. Talked about just why are we booing players and all this stuff. Let's, let's talk about the booing of players, shall we? Kenny Ram, rattle off your list of quarterbacks that we've booed when they got. [00:54:28] Kenny Thunder: When they got hurt. [00:54:29] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, yeah. [00:54:30] Kenny Thunder: Tim Couch, Derek Anderson, Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson. [00:54:34] Ronnie Jams: So what's the common denominator with all of those, though? And this is what's missed by guys like Zay who, Who say that we're cheering an injury. Specifically the injury. [00:54:44] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, I mean, DeSean Watson, right, was. Was pent up frustration and anger about him not being benched. Baker Mefield was playing through an injury and playing poorly and should have. People still maintain that he should have pulled himself out of the lineup. I maintain the coaches should have done it, but somebody should have done it. [00:54:58] Ronnie Jams: Somebody should. [00:54:58] Kenny Thunder: Derek Anderson at that point was on the d. Downward spiral of his career. [00:55:01] Ronnie Jams: He had been playing poorly for a while. [00:55:03] Kenny Thunder: Playing poorly. And Tim Couch was maybe the exception to this rule who was, you know, I guess by all accounts not playing great, but, you know, had positioned that team well. So maybe he's the one kind of on the bubble there, but all of those guys were playing poorly and deserved to hear the frustration of fans at that point in time. [00:55:23] Ronnie Jams: And I guess what I want to point out is that the boos are not. Not necessarily. Are there some people that are cheering the injury? Sure. But the booze. Overall, I would say the vast majority of people booing in those moments are not booing the injury moments or. I'm sorry, yeah, cheering. Cheering The. The injury. They're not cheering the injury itself. What they're cheering for is the fact that somebody else will be coming in at quarterback. [00:55:46] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, they were. They were cheering out of relief because fate intervened and made the decision that weak minded, soft penis coaches wouldn't make on their own. [00:55:57] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, it's not, it's not that we're happy or hurt. It's that we're happy another quarterback is getting a chance to play. Yeah, it's as simple as that. Like, there's no reason to make this a personal thing. I mean, even Tim Couch has come around and he still embraces the fans. Like, like, because I think over time, you, you've just learned to understand it. It has nothing to do with you as a person and the fact that, that you got injured. It has to do with the fact that somebody else is playing quarterback. [00:56:25] Kenny Thunder: There is zero chance that 15 years from now in the dome, Deshaan Watson comes back and smashes a guitar here in Cleveland. [00:56:33] The Bone Man: Not happening. He would get booed again. [00:56:35] Ronnie Jams: None whatsoever. And so I just want to talk about that because I just couldn't believe the fact that it wasn't just there was a couple others that, that made the same comments. And I'm like, what are you talking about? Turning this on the fans? I just don't. The dudes played football. He's a human being. We have a reason, whether it's personal or performance based. Both of those things give us a reason to boo to Sean Watson. [00:56:58] Kenny Thunder: I don't know where this, this unspoken code came from, this decorum that you're supposed to, to have. [00:57:04] Ronnie Jams: We're going to watch the football game to make sure that we cheat appropriate [00:57:09] Kenny Thunder: to boo one player because you're, you're doing that in spite of the other 52 guys on the roster. Like, news flash. Like, they're probably all being booed because the team was 5 and 12 last year. Like, they're not good. [00:57:23] Ronnie Jams: Here's the other thing. [00:57:24] Kenny Thunder: Not good. [00:57:24] Ronnie Jams: Here's the other thing. We've got the dog pound, 37 beers in, and you're pretty pissed off. Like, it's, it's gonna happen. [00:57:30] The Bone Man: Put a bad product on the field, you're gonna get booed. [00:57:32] Kenny Thunder: Like, yes, Miles Garrett was collateral damage in the booze. But you know what? I don't think Miles Garrett cared. I think Miles Garrett was going, I had 23 sacks and we still sucked. I. I would boo myself. [00:57:45] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. And for. And that was actually part of those arguments today is, is there's somebody released that that was part of the reason why Miles Garrett wanted out of here is because they cheered when desean Watson got hurt. And it's like, one, okay, well then where the hell was that news when it happened? Yeah, and where's it been? And two, like, I just don't buy it. [00:58:07] Kenny Thunder: Miles was, was thinking about that as he was Stroking his name on their checks when he was getting extensions to be the highest paid defensive end in history of the NFL. NFL. No, look, I. Again, it's like Cleveland is not. It's a passionate fan base. It's, it's, it's one of the best. It's not a nasty fan base. It is not Philadelphia. It is not New York. Those markets are way rougher on their athletes and on their coaches. Chicago. [00:58:34] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [00:58:34] Kenny Thunder: I mean these, these really big markets. Atlanta, I mean, because everything's at scale, right? Like you said, there are some people that maybe they did cheer these injury. Well, if there's 10 of them in Cleveland that did it by numbers alone, there's probably a thousand in Chicago or New York because you just have more of whatever the problem areas are. But fans have a right to boo in protest. To go, guys, you're not getting it done. I spent money to bring my family here. I paid $200 to park and food and another 300 in tickets. Like I spent $600 for this afternoon with my family. And you've turned it on its head. [00:59:08] Big Dew Dawg: Head. [00:59:09] Ronnie Jams: Like, do they. [00:59:10] Kenny Thunder: That's boo worthy. [00:59:11] Ronnie Jams: Do they realize what the alternative is? The alternative is you get a fan base like the la's of the world that literally don't give a. They just go to the game because they're rich and have lots of money and when they score, you get like a yay. And when they don't score, you get like a, like you get nothing. There's no, there's no passion, there's no fire with the fan base. Like I'd be more concerned as an owner if I put this out on the field for the last 25 years and didn't hear booze. [00:59:36] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. Like I don't want to. [00:59:37] Ronnie Jams: That's concerning. That means we're getting to a point where nobody cares anymore about this football team. [00:59:41] Kenny Thunder: I don't want to make it like a totally socioeconomic thing, but you're right, right. Like in those towns, people that can afford tickets buy them. And in, in our town, in a blue collar town like Cleveland, Right. Like people are making sacrifices with their own family so that they can purchase season tickets to the Browns because my grandpa did it and my dad did it and now I'm going to do it. And so maybe we don't take it second mortgage. We don't take a vacation this year because I'm going to be in the muni lot every Sunday. Like it's that important to people. You know, in la, Rihanna goes to the game Right, like nobody. There's no. There's no trade off. There's no question. There's no, can I afford this? It's. It's different here. And for those people, when they're displeased with the product, when they're told by Todd Monken, effectively, your opinion doesn't even matter. We're not here for you. [01:00:32] The Bone Man: You make that decision. [01:00:34] Kenny Thunder: Us. I'm the decision maker. I'm the one in the chair. Doesn't matter what you guys want to see. Get the out of here. Todd Monken. I'm done with you. [01:00:44] Ronnie Jams: Is this. Guys, are they doing this on purpose? Is it. Is. Let's. Let's be honest here. [01:00:49] Kenny Thunder: What? There's easier ways to tank. You can tank without putting on the field. If this, if Shador is as bad as people say he is, you're gonna lose a bunch of games anyways. Jesus. If you want to lose, put Dylan Gabriel in the game. Put Taylor Green in the game. Draft a team of all punters. [01:01:09] Ronnie Jams: Are they trying to make it as bleak as possible so that when the new stadium opens in 2029, Arch Manning can be the guy and they could be like, look, it's glorious. This is what we have to look forward to. [01:01:19] Kenny Thunder: I don't know if you all remember when Eli Manning got drafted, but there's no way that Archie and company and the family of Manning is going to let any quarterback with a pedigree come here. Not because the fans might boo you, because it's a dumpster fire. Everything here is dysfunctional. [01:01:36] Ronnie Jams: I mean, I don't disagree. I was just asking a question, man. I just, I. I have no other explanation how the fuck we got here. [01:01:43] Kenny Thunder: You'll be lucky to draft any quarterback that last name isn't Manning. [01:01:46] The Bone Man: How could you blame him, too, if that does happen? How can you sit there and say, I can't believe he did that to Cleveland. It's like, are you kidding me? Look at this ownership group. Look at our general manager. Manager. The only thing suck. [01:01:57] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, look at the jersey with 40 [01:01:59] Kenny Thunder: names on the back. You don't want to be one of those. [01:02:02] Ronnie Jams: Literally, the only thing we've got going for us is that the Haslams are friends with the Mannings. Like, that's it. That's what we got. [01:02:09] The Bone Man: I mean, I don't think that's good [01:02:11] Ronnie Jams: enough, but I don't. I agree with you. I don't think it carries enough weight for them to not say, trade us. [01:02:15] The Bone Man: They're like, I can go make the same money here. [01:02:18] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, the Only thing you get with us is versus like an LA team is a lot lower taxes, you know? [01:02:25] Kenny Thunder: Sure. [01:02:25] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:02:26] Kenny Thunder: I don't think the Manning family is worried about money. All. [01:02:30] Ronnie Jams: I think they might be on hard times. Cooper, you think he's doing all right? [01:02:34] Kenny Thunder: I, I think there are just about 31 other franchises they would rather play for. [01:02:40] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I mean, I'm probably with you, but to, to further the desean Watson talk, I think we should bring in a guest here and get an outside opinion. Which do you think? [01:02:50] Kenny Thunder: Are we too in our bubble here? [01:02:52] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, yeah, let's, let's, let's see if anybody else feels, feels differently. Let's do an interview real quick. You ready? [01:02:58] Kenny Thunder: I'm in. How much money do you make a year before taxes? [01:03:09] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I'm actually not comfortable answering that. Come on, we're doing the interview now, not you. All right, everybody, help me. Welcome friend of the show, Big Dog. [01:03:29] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah, coming Like a 28th allegation, baby. [01:03:35] Ronnie Jams: Oh, man. [01:03:37] The Bone Man: Yes. [01:03:39] Kenny Thunder: Shots fired early on. [01:03:40] Ronnie Jams: Is that the number we were at? I didn't even know. I, I just knew it was up there. That's when people ask me how many allegations there have, I say there's been a lot. [01:03:48] Kenny Thunder: Too many. Too many. [01:03:50] Ronnie Jams: What's up, Dewey? How are you? [01:03:51] Big Dew Dawg: I, I was great until certain announcements got named about my quarterback. But, you know. [01:03:57] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, about that. I mean, I'm glad you're going there right away because that's, that's the main reason we have you on here. I mean, we can, we can always count on you for honest and fair reactions to everything Browns related. So, I mean, let's just dive right into it. Explain. We're talking to Sean Watson, obviously. I don't think to. [01:04:13] Kenny Thunder: We need. [01:04:13] Ronnie Jams: Need to. I'm gonna say it, but we don't need to. [01:04:16] Kenny Thunder: That is the news. [01:04:17] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. So explain, you know, from, from your point of view what and how this happened. [01:04:23] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, well, manure is flammable. That is what I've been told. It's the shit show down in Berea or Brook park or whatever, whatever city we call ourselves anymore. How it happened, I guess, I guess Jimmy slash Barry, you know, kind of empowered their man puppet Monkin to put their quarterback in because man puppet. [01:04:49] Kenny Thunder: I like man puppet Monken. [01:04:50] Big Dew Dawg: I mean, that's, that's what I've seen. I, I mean, everybody has seen on Social that I, I wasn't a big fan of Monkey going in. I have since grown to like his attitude, But I mean, 60 year old, first time NFL head coach, I, I don't you know, respectful. Respectfully of age. I don't think he's here for, you know, Sean McVeigh rebuilding the franchise thing. I think it's. He knew as his last rodeo to get a chance to be an NFL head coach, and they firmly planted their hand so far up his rear. And, you know, it is what it is. The young guys, the young guys that everybody else wanted was like, I'm not going to rebuild this franchise and still be a sick scapegoat. I still got 40 years in this building business. [01:05:36] Ronnie Jams: He's literally the other guys. He's Samuel L. Jackson. If I wanted you to talk, I'd shove my hand up your ass and work your mouth like a puppet. [01:05:43] Kenny Thunder: He's not here for a long time. He's here for a good time. [01:05:45] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, listen, I, I mean, I, I fully, fully agree. Don't talk that way around to Sean. I fully agree with you as far as him being here. Just as, you know, short term, he's not. Yeah, he's. He's literally a placeholder head coach. I mean, at this point, we have placeholder quarterbacks, placeholder head coaches play. It doesn't really. [01:06:06] Kenny Thunder: Placeholder franchise. [01:06:07] Ronnie Jams: It's just a placeholder franchise. [01:06:09] Kenny Thunder: 1 of 32. [01:06:10] Ronnie Jams: The only thing that I can, I can disagree with you on, and I kind of want to. Wanted to point this out, was I keep seeing a lot of the Andrew Barry and Jimmy Haslam want Deshaun Watson at quarterback. And I actually have a hard time believing that simply because most of last season we spent our shows arguing that Andrew Barry is the one that wanted Shador Sanders in here. And so to do. To see him do a complete one. And maybe Haslam likes Watson. Maybe he's just like, I spent $230 million guaranteed on him and that's the reason he's playing. But I find it hard to. To believe that Andrew Barry, the same guy that's fist bumping and kind of joking with Shador Sanders in Shador's locker after every game last year, is the one that's sitting here saying, I really want the Sean Watson to play. [01:06:59] Kenny Thunder: Would you say you find it hard to swallow? [01:07:03] Ronnie Jams: I'm not saying that. [01:07:06] Big Dew Dawg: If you're quiet enough, you can hear Mary Case salivating in the background. [01:07:11] Ronnie Jams: Good Lord. Oh, man. This is where we get in trouble. The rest of the show has been pretty bad anyways. But no, I just. That's the only part of that that I find hard to believe. But the rest of it, I mean, I just, Just don't. What Is what is the point of desean Watson being the starting quarterback? [01:07:28] Kenny Thunder: Well, I guess what was the point of having the competition? Why. Why call it a competition? Why not just say deshaun's our starter from day one and. And just live with it? [01:07:36] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah, it would have been really hard to sell preseason tickets. I'm not sure to. To be honest. I'm. I'm not sure. At least with the last one, they sold enough tickets for people knowing, like, hey, we're going to come boo him in the third quarter. [01:07:49] Kenny Thunder: That's fair enough. [01:07:50] Big Dew Dawg: That's about it. I mean, I agree. I thought. I thought for a good minute the. The Dylan Gabriel, I guess we called snap Fu was on Stefanski because other than the fact Barry sucks at drafting third rounders, I. It never made sense at this point. I don't know who's whose puppet, I guess. And I know Barry is Haslam's. And Monkin must be berries or do they have a co puppet? Is there. Is there two entry points? [01:08:19] Kenny Thunder: Haslam's using both like a brown suit centipede. [01:08:22] Ronnie Jams: Oh, no. [01:08:24] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, man, this ventriloquism show is ridiculous. But I. Yeah, I mean, I would like to think so. I would like to think Barry, because if you look at his These last two recent drafts, other than the absolute worst trade and following contract in NFL history, he's done a rather good job of building a roster hampering like, you know, desean Watson. I mean, sure, we haven't won games, but you know how hard it would be to take what, the giant chunk of your cap space and figure it out from there. And then still while in the back rooms apparently fighting with your head coach over, hey, you're going to call plays, but we're going to give you offensive coordinator not one, not two, three straight years in a row. We're going to leak to certain reporters. We're going to take play calling away. You know, it's. If only. If only we could stop doing Cleveland things, we might be average. [01:09:22] Kenny Thunder: Dysfunction is. [01:09:23] Ronnie Jams: Well, and that's like, the biggest thing is, is it's gotten to a point where we can't even make up a story that makes any of this make sense. Like, it doesn't matter how hard you try. There's always like, what's the biggest problem with epic stories when they're told is plot holes. There's always plot holes. [01:09:42] Kenny Thunder: Year. [01:09:42] Ronnie Jams: No, but. But there's always plot holes. They're like, why did this happen? Why did this happen? You can't come up with a story that fits Everything. And why everybody? Like you said. Who's Todd Mon? Whose puppet is he? Whose puppet is Andrew Barry? It doesn't make sense. It doesn't fit together. The only explanation is we're the single most dysfunctional organization in sports history. [01:10:05] Kenny Thunder: You said you can't come up with a story without plot holes. But Tolkien did. [01:10:09] Ronnie Jams: That's true. It's. It's flawless. It's flawless. And for anybody, Anybody that says the Eagles could have carried him to Mordor, you clearly don't know. [01:10:17] Big Dew Dawg: Thank you. [01:10:17] Ronnie Jams: You don't know Lord of the Rings. [01:10:18] Big Dew Dawg: Thank you. The Eagles point. Makes zero sense to anybody who knows a damn thing about Lord of the Rings. [01:10:27] Ronnie Jams: Yep. See, Dewey knows. Dewey knows. [01:10:30] Kenny Thunder: This is why we're Brett. I'm the big old Dew Drop. [01:10:32] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, we'll get into that. A different time. That's a whole other conversation, Dewey. Football and Lord. Yeah. [01:10:37] Big Dew Dawg: I just love this show. [01:10:39] Ronnie Jams: See? See, this is why you come to the. [01:10:42] Kenny Thunder: You listen to the Burning River Sportscast. [01:10:45] Ronnie Jams: I don't even know where we were going, so. [01:10:47] Big Dew Dawg: So do we. [01:10:47] Kenny Thunder: Okay, so we don't know maybe how or why this happened, but what was your. Your reaction when the news came down? [01:10:54] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, if I could find my shotgun and demonstrate the Kurt Cobain reaction, that it's behind you. Oh, yeah. Thanks. The only issue is, is I feel like because we're. We're not new to this, to this program, we all knew Watson was going to be the guy. We, you know, we had the ting, the tickle in our heart. Like, hey, maybe. Maybe we'll get our heads out of our ass. And it might be Shador or it might actually be a competition or, I don't know, going damn near perfect. And the one start with backups would earn you some respect, but. No, I guess not. You know, but the beginning. Beginning of all this, I was like, gut feeling says 32 or $230 million buys you at least another start. My only thing is this dude has earned $12 million per start and it still looked bad in all of them. Like the hell. This has been absolute horrid. I. I don't know. Has there been a. A bigger fall from grace from a former, what, three time Pro bowl, like, former first round draft pick? At least Ryan Leaf went out quickly. Like he. They just took him behind the. Behind the shed and put him out of his misery. [01:12:11] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Yeah, it's. I mean, it's pretty wild. [01:12:14] Kenny Thunder: Shador was a Pro bowler and was benched now for serial. [01:12:20] The Bone Man: He deserved. [01:12:20] Big Dew Dawg: He. [01:12:20] The Bone Man: He earned that Pro Bowl. [01:12:22] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, he really did he had a lot of starts and did really well in all of them and also was the other Pro Bowler that we had on our team. Snoop. [01:12:33] Big Dew Dawg: Snoop. [01:12:35] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I think he's back. [01:12:36] Kenny Thunder: Isn't he going to play this this week? [01:12:38] Ronnie Jams: He said he's a Pro Bowler, but. No, I just. Yeah, I mean, so. So your reaction is. Is kind of the same as. As all of ours, I think is. Is you're just. We're all disappointed. [01:12:50] Kenny Thunder: Dumbfounded. [01:12:51] Ronnie Jams: Dumbfounded is a great word for it because here's the thing is, is I get the $230 million guaranteed. I would agree with just about everybody that said up until his press conference conference, all the writing was on the wall. They were going to name him starter. Everybody saw that coming. But the fact that they, that he had that press conference and not just. And I know I already talked about Todd Monkin saying, you know, the fans aren't going to decide who plays or whatever he said, but the fact that not just the fans, but every media outlet in the world, everybody that knows anything about football after he said that and turned on the fans and said what he did and just saw what was going to happen going forward this season if he plays, said there is no way that you can put him on that field. And here we are. [01:13:38] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, basically, you can't torture fan base and then put the uniform on. [01:13:41] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Fast forward 48 hours and he's. He's the guy. [01:13:45] Big Dew Dawg: I hate to break break news to national media. I've been doing this shit since I came back. What do you mean they can't do it? They've been doing it all along. And Watson, listen, I understand. Hey know you say some things. Oppressor. Come on, rub one out and be a adult. Man like Dylan Gabriel went out as a rookie after getting booed and didn't cry about it. He. He found his step stool like a man, got behind the podium and stood up all, you know, five foot three of himself and took his licking little, little coconut. [01:14:15] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:14:18] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, my goodness. [01:14:19] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. I seriously, I mean that, that's where we're at is I honestly, honestly, after hearing the news, I was dumbfounded. And then I reflected on it a little bit and I said, I never thought I would say this, especially on our show, especially for tens of people, hundreds of people to hear. I would rather Dylan Gabriel got named the starter than Deshaun Watson because at that point, at least he's young. Like, at least there's a chance for him to grow and develop and be better. I'll be at a very Small chance much like his stature. [01:14:58] Kenny Thunder: You could have named Bob's big boy the starter and it would have been fine. Couldn't name was Deshaun Watson. [01:15:05] Ronnie Jams: Yeah and it's, it's just wild to me like the we're. We're talking about. Most of the fan base was saying after that press conference you have to cut him you know 120, 180 whatever the number was 100 and whatever million dollars be damned for dead cat cap hit just get rid of him and let's move on. That's what most people said and today Monday he's the guy. [01:15:27] Big Dew Dawg: Well the, the big issue is going to be the dead cap. We could, we could have, we could have swallowed it. I mean Denver did after Wilson they swallow I want to say 80 something million but the difference is before they did that they brought in a culture setter and what was his name? Sean Payton that he knew he saw the vision moving forward and put, put took only a season of the abuse and put the the Denver franchise on the path. He understood like hey this is gonna suck. But at least they knew who, who was steering the ship. This is the old spider man meme of who's dumber here and that's the issue is like you look at Denver it's not, not. I mean yes it's 120 was a dead cat but it's over two years. It's like 40 something this year 80 something next year. Denver swallowed 80 and they, I mean we're smart enough that hey next they went out and got their quarterback. Depending on how you feel about Bonix but at least they, at least they haven't had a competition of who's going to play and they've had can't stand [01:16:33] Ronnie Jams: Bo Nicks but the numbers don't lie. [01:16:35] Big Dew Dawg: I mean he's better, he's better than the accumulation of old quarterbacks who have played here. So, so even if he's, even if he's 16th in the league he's still 16 spots higher than our quarterback. So. [01:16:48] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [01:16:48] Kenny Thunder: So. So what do you think Dewey? The Browns gonna be good this year? [01:16:52] Big Dew Dawg: Good? She just asked me. They're gonna be good. How good was Dale Earnhardt's last race? That's about as about as good as you can get that that's what I feel like we're watching. I, I've had an argument with my friends and I'm unfortunately trying to con him out of his season tickets. He doesn't want to go. I also don't want to pay so I Might have to find a small town, you know, crank out a couple of tickets for the home team. But, you know, soon happens. I'm kind of hoping after two games we'll be.02 on the road and then we'll come back and something will happen, you know, all of a sudden he'll have a new case or something. Mary Kay will admit to something. Who knows, who knows? All I can hope, and as a, as a fan who loves my team, I will state this. The orange and brown, I want them to win every game for every year to the heat death of this damn universe. But obviously going to happen with Deshaun Watson, even if you take the five years he's been here. Guys, he's played 19 games. You look at those stats, it's the 19 combined games he's played, what, 3,300 yards, 19 touchdowns, downs, sorry, 22 or something. If you add in a couple rushing touch ups. He, even over five years he hasn't amassed the stat of a starting quarterback. [01:18:11] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, he's playing, he's playing the joke reel because it's, because it's just comical. Listen, Dewey, you actually brought up one point and I have another question to add here is what do you say to some of these Cleveland, specifically Cleveland media personalities that I saw out there today? Kind of talking down our fan base and saying this is, you know, insinuating that there's a problem with the fan base because we boo players. I mean, do you have anything to say to people like that? I know, I know we had our own words just a little bit ago, but you know what, what do you think about them calling out the fans and kind of piggybacking off of what DeSean said [01:18:52] Big Dew Dawg: to the, the, the media that thinks we're the devil for booing players. I'm sorry that mommy and daddy wiped your ass until you were 13. Like, the real world sucks, man. People are out here like, we can't, we can't even afford groceries and people are still paying money to go to this shit ass team. Like to go watch and then to watch it like, dude, it's our money. First of all, why are we talking about Cleveland? Do you not understand where Bottlegate came from? Like, there's a reason why you're not allowed to be sold glass bottles or closed containers of beer at store stadium because guess who did that? And you wouldn't cry because booed. This wasn't even the worst thing we did to him. Remember the, you know when he got hurt and we cheered that he tore an Achilles this is even the worst thing we've done to our own players. We're not even the only team. Remember when Philly booed Santa Claus? [01:19:43] Kenny Thunder: There's snowballs at it. [01:19:44] Ronnie Jams: You talk about that all the time. [01:19:46] Big Dew Dawg: For those playing along at home, would you like to Google what the word fan is short for? It's fanatic. Yeah. Idiot. How do you get paid all this money and not understand? Like, what prep school did you play sports in where everybody had a cheer? I put up. I went to Cleveland. Plug, bro. I didn't even get. I didn't even get applaud in my own home for. What are you talking about? [01:20:07] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, that's Jewish. [01:20:08] Kenny Thunder: From the streets. [01:20:09] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Streets of par, I think. Hell yes. Capital of Ohio. [01:20:15] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah. Me and Jamie Nader, baby. [01:20:18] Ronnie Jams: No, I mean, I think we're all right there with you. I just don't understand this whole, like out of nowhere, all of a sudden, there's some sort of decorum to being a physical like you. It's just wild to me. Like, we want good football and we haven't got it in 27 years more because it's before we came back, actually. So it's. It's more like 30 plus. So. Yeah, I just. I just don't get it. But, Dewey, you know, we've talked about Deshaun Watson a lot. I'm sure we'll have you back on. Talk more about Deshaun Watson before we sign off with you. Do you have. What do you got going on this season? I know you have a social media page that you run that's dedicated to Browns news, everything Browns. So what do you have going on on your end? [01:21:00] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah, on social media, you can definitely check out, you know, big dude dog for most of it. I do my best to piss off the mass of the 90% of Browns fans that don't know football. So that's the big one is. It's. It's finding that 10% that can tell the difference between a hole in the ground and, you know, I guess a football player. I. The 90% of Browns fans that just watch a box score and tell me like, oh, you know, he threw an interception. Not, hey, that was a tip pass. And, you know, if you touch the ball with two hands, you should probably catch it. Just gonna say that. But yeah, you can follow me definitely there when it comes to, like, other than that, I don't know. I'm kind of bit of a free agent there, guys. I mean, looking for some stuff to do. Filling some time time. I'm gonna not Be on a, I'm not gonna, you know, hit up any Instagram therapists or anything at this point, but who knows? I guess that's the thing we can do here in Cleveland. That's cool, right? Yeah. [01:21:55] Kenny Thunder: They might make you the starting quarterback. [01:21:57] Ronnie Jams: That's true. [01:21:58] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, man. You know, you know, the hefty lefty might be a personal, A personal Jesus to me. I can get out there. I got a couple plays. [01:22:07] Ronnie Jams: You mean to tell me we could have the Hefty, Hefty lefty and Dylan Dinkin dunk all on the same team? [01:22:11] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah, listen, I might, I might throw Dylan Dink and dunk for a first down. That might be about it. [01:22:18] Ronnie Jams: That's frowned upon. That's a sport that we don't, that we don't condone on the day. [01:22:21] Big Dew Dawg: Back in the day, Mike Leech had a, a super secret plan where he was going to put a little person in the backfield and then he was going to throw the little person and then he was told it's illegal. But I mean, you know, the forward [01:22:34] Ronnie Jams: pass, and in life, the forward pass [01:22:37] Big Dew Dawg: itself was illegal until like the 40s guys, you know, 50s to happen. [01:22:41] Ronnie Jams: Innovative, innovative, innovative, innovative. Ahead of his time. [01:22:45] Kenny Thunder: Way ahead. Dewey, final question for you. Are we, are we in your 10%? [01:22:49] Big Dew Dawg: Oh, absolutely. Listen, there's a lot of, as somebody, as somebody who, As somebody who tries to, I guess, stockpile a lot of like, content coming in, like there's a handful of podcasts I, I try to stock stomach just because I'm like, yeah, there was a point where I even listened to Mary Kay's whatever you want to call it, because I'm like, all right, she's been here 128 years. Her, her, her skin walking Mitch McConnell looking self has been here long enough. She should have a good take. I'm still waiting for that day. I'm still waiting for the day Mary Kay has a good take. Remember? [01:23:29] Ronnie Jams: Hey, you shouldn't, you should never admit to your friends that you were that low that you had to listen to Mary Kay Cabin. [01:23:35] Big Dew Dawg: Listen some. Sometimes, you know, when the bar rear goggles get a little thick, the twos look like 10. Okay. You gotta squeak one out every once in a while, man. That's. I, I'm not gonna go out there and yell at my fans in Oppressor. [01:23:51] Ronnie Jams: I, I, I feel it. Well, now that my co host can no longer Talk, I'm Mitch McConnell. Dewey, it's been great having you. As always, been a riot. We have a lot of fun talking to you. I'm sure we're gonna have you on a few more times this year if. If nothing else to lighten the mood when the Browns are going on 17. So. [01:24:15] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah, if you guys ever need a reminder or to remind your fans there is a worst person out there, I am free anytime you need me. [01:24:23] Ronnie Jams: Thanks, Dewey. [01:24:23] Big Dew Dawg: We appreciate it, guys. Go Brown. [01:24:31] Kenny Thunder: Powered by riverside. F that. [01:24:45] Ronnie Jams: Always good having a big dew dog on here. [01:24:48] Kenny Thunder: Dew drop took us to some places that I got wild, man. Not sure we wanted to go to. [01:24:55] Ronnie Jams: You know, I always. I always think we're pretty unfiltered. He just gives it to you. [01:25:00] The Bone Man: Roll. [01:25:04] Kenny Thunder: That's why. That's why there's an explicit label on the. On the. [01:25:08] Ronnie Jams: That's true. I do not claim to be. [01:25:10] Kenny Thunder: We don't claim to be a family friendly show. [01:25:12] Ronnie Jams: No, no. [01:25:14] Kenny Thunder: It's not in, like, bad faith. We're not trying to do it to. To be nasty. It just. [01:25:17] Ronnie Jams: Sometimes it just comes out. Sometimes you get nasty. One last thing on the desean Watson. [01:25:23] Kenny Thunder: Oh, I thought we were done. We're not done. [01:25:25] Ronnie Jams: This is just. Just one last thought. [01:25:27] Kenny Thunder: We're not done. [01:25:27] Ronnie Jams: How poignant that this was. Week Nick Chubb retires. [01:25:31] Kenny Thunder: Oh, gosh. [01:25:32] Ronnie Jams: Speaking of bad news, the single greatest role model, team player and athlete that the Browns have arguably ever seen. Just literally, the. The. The model citizen, the model team player retired this week. And you. You get the juxtaposition of that against this piece of crap coming up and telling the fans that they suck. [01:25:53] Kenny Thunder: Look, no matter what you believe about this cosmos and where it came from, what you subscribe to as your belief system, life is miraculous. It's a miraculous event that just any of us are here. That the consciousness finds a way exists that our paths happened to intersect with Nick Chubb, that we got to watch that football for what, seven years? I mean, arguably just the most talented football player that I've ever seen touch a football ball that we got to watch that here. So blessed, you know, cut down in his prime, certainly would have been a Hall of Famer. I mean, the. The list of guys that averaged 5 yards of carry for their career. Barry Sanders and Jim Brown and Nick Chubb. I mean, that's. That's the list. That's the entire. That is a comprehensive list. Just phenomenal athlete, phenomenal role model, phenomenal football player, phenomenal human and just. I just can't say, like, I just so blessed and lucky that we got to watch that guy play football here. [01:26:58] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. And what else? And the reason why I'm tying this in with the. Desean Watson just juxtaposition. Yes. [01:27:04] Big Dew Dawg: Is. [01:27:04] Ronnie Jams: Is the fact that you nailed it. Everything that you just said, that's what you got with Nick Chubb. You get the literal opposite with desean Watson, and we got to experience both of these things. And so that is why you. You wonder why. Why you get booed to Sean Watson. Take a look in the mirror and then go watch. It's not hard see somebody like Nick Chub interact and live his life. [01:27:28] Kenny Thunder: Nick Chubb literally said, like, nothing. For seven years, all he did was go out and lay his body good part on the line and execute every time he touched the football. That was it. That was all he had to do. And. And he will be beloved in this city for eternity. [01:27:46] Ronnie Jams: Yep. So it's not hard. [01:27:48] Kenny Thunder: It's not a complicated formula. That's why go out and do your job. That's why we respect that. [01:27:54] Ronnie Jams: That's why you're booed. DeShawn Watson. That's why you're booed. And then, last thing for The Burning river rundown 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in a trailer park in Ohio this past week in a prostitution sting. And a completely illegitimate source tells me that DeShawn Watson may have had knowledge of the happenings here, but decided that it was, quote, too soon to take part and there was, quote, too much risk. [01:28:18] Kenny Thunder: Wild off season. 49ers, your head coach rolls his SUV now. Now your owner is getting arrested in a prostitution sting somewhere. Robert Kraft is smiling. [01:28:29] Ronnie Jams: Oh, he's off the hook completely. [01:28:31] Kenny Thunder: He's like, guys, see, I wasn't. [01:28:32] Ronnie Jams: That's another guy that Deshaun Watson probably likes. [01:28:35] Kenny Thunder: You know, um, you know, look, we've talked a lot about soft tissue injuries in the substation. Like, the brain is soft tissue, right? Like his brain just melted being out there. [01:28:46] Ronnie Jams: Oh, I thought you were going somewhere else with soft tissue. [01:28:49] The Bone Man: I was thinking he was being treated with endorphins or something. [01:28:51] Ronnie Jams: Yes. Yeah, I didn't. [01:28:53] Kenny Thunder: I'm just saying maybe there's more to this whole power station thing. [01:28:57] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, maybe. [01:28:57] The Bone Man: I don't know. [01:28:58] Ronnie Jams: I don't know. [01:28:59] Kenny Thunder: Makes grown men do funny things with that. If we. [01:29:02] Ronnie Jams: As if we haven't done so enough so far. Let's go ahead and get gassed up. [01:29:12] Big Dew Dawg: Now. [01:29:12] Ronnie Jams: Once again, this is a segment where we get gassed up. I mean, there's something that you got to get off your chest that you're. That's making you a little bit upset here, Kenny. It seems like even though I'm. I'll say this again. Even though you call me Red Hot Ronnie Jams and say I'm the angry one on the show, you're the only one that ever has a gassed up for us. So I don't know that I can [01:29:28] Kenny Thunder: be anymore more gassed up about anything that I am about Deshaun Watson and the whole thing right now. [01:29:33] Ronnie Jams: We actually stayed pretty even keeled here. [01:29:35] Kenny Thunder: We. [01:29:35] Ronnie Jams: We've had some time to cool off. If we would have done the show [01:29:39] Kenny Thunder: right after the game press a little bit. [01:29:41] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [01:29:41] Kenny Thunder: It would have been bad. Well, I think what happened is the apathy set in. [01:29:44] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:29:44] Kenny Thunder: Right. [01:29:44] Ronnie Jams: Like, initially there was. [01:29:46] Kenny Thunder: There was rage and it was like, why are we doing. Why are we living this reality again? And then you realize, oh, because we're the Cleveland Browns, like, that's, That's. [01:29:57] Ronnie Jams: We go right back. [01:29:57] Kenny Thunder: That's the answer to everything. Everything that a. You is like Yuri Brown's fan. And. And you were born into this. It's. It's bloodsport. And this is just how it's going to be. That's what people don't understand about the whole desean thing too. And it's why it's so personal. Not that we. The sexual assault and all this, but just why it's so personal with fans. [01:30:15] Ronnie Jams: Is that why the performance is personal? [01:30:18] Kenny Thunder: The whole thing is personal is because this isn't something that, like, we can just be free agents and go be like, I'm a Titans fan. I can go just be a Jaguar. So fan. Like, I guess as a human being, you have that agency, but you really don't. [01:30:33] The Bone Man: You can't do it as a Browns fan. [01:30:34] Kenny Thunder: You were tied to this. And. And that's what no one else will ever understand. I think about our fandom. Is there. There's no rhyme or reason to. To. To actually like and root for this team. But for some reason, intrinsically, within all [01:30:48] Ronnie Jams: of us, we are drawn. [01:30:49] Kenny Thunder: We are drawn to these stupid orange helmets every Sunday during the fall. [01:30:54] The Bone Man: Literally. Literally, like, love the Browns. You can't explain it. [01:30:58] Kenny Thunder: Parents or your kids. Like, it's just in you. And it's so stupid. [01:31:02] Ronnie Jams: There's. [01:31:03] Kenny Thunder: It defies all logic and reasoning, but we have to sit and watch this team on Sundays from the beginning of [01:31:09] Ronnie Jams: September to the end of January, every single year. [01:31:13] Kenny Thunder: Not every. That's when the super bowl is playing. [01:31:15] Ronnie Jams: Exactly. Every Sunday. This team 100% determines your mood for the rest of the. [01:31:21] Big Dew Dawg: The week. [01:31:22] Ronnie Jams: And it's insane, but we do it year after year. And here's something crazy like just Just like, to your point, Bones, a second ago, of like, you just love the Browns is. As I've gotten older, I used to be, like, growing up when we were in high school and stuff. I was a huge Ohio State fan. And I still am. I'm still a huge Ohio State fan. However, I used to put Ohio State ahead of the Browns as I've gotten older. It's the Browns. It's not even close. It's like the Browns is way up here in Ohio State's down here, and they're still. Still like, my second most followed football. But, like, I care so much more about what the Browns do than Ohio State. [01:31:53] Kenny Thunder: I was so into fantasy football. And. And don't get me wrong, I will still watch football anytime it's on. Right. It's the greatest game ever created in the history of mankind. [01:32:04] Big Dew Dawg: But. [01:32:04] The Bone Man: But. [01:32:04] Kenny Thunder: But I used to be so much more, you know, just fans of individual players. Fans. [01:32:10] Ronnie Jams: I don't even play fantasy football anymore. [01:32:11] Kenny Thunder: Fans lightly of like, other. Other teams. Like, I always kind of followed them. Not in the same way that I did the Browns, but like when Tate [01:32:17] Ronnie Jams: Manning was playing for the Colts. [01:32:18] Big Dew Dawg: Yeah. [01:32:18] Kenny Thunder: Like, I was always invested in their games and seeing what Peyton was gonna do. I mean, I loved to hate on Tom Brady until I eventually became a Tom Brady convert. Because I just couldn't deny the greatness that I was watching over and how [01:32:29] Ronnie Jams: lucky we were to watch it all. [01:32:31] Kenny Thunder: I rooted against it for so long, and at some point, you just gotta go, I remember hand it to you, man. You're great. [01:32:36] Ronnie Jams: The year that they went to. They were undefeated and went to the super bowl, and we were rooting. We had opposite rooting interests because I was like, I just want to see history. I want to see somebody go undefeated. And you're like, no. That Tom Brady. [01:32:46] Kenny Thunder: Yeah. And like, in some. Some of the greatest stories ever written. Right? Like the Eli Manning, Tom Brady stuff, [01:32:50] Ronnie Jams: but old Sticky helmet David Tyree. [01:32:54] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, but I just. I'm not even on that level anymore. Like, I just. I don't. I care. [01:32:58] Ronnie Jams: So little rounds or bust, I will [01:33:00] Kenny Thunder: still watch Monday Night Football on Thursday Night Football. And I watch football all week because [01:33:03] Ronnie Jams: they're just not invested. [01:33:04] Kenny Thunder: But I'm not invested anymore. The only team I'm truly invested in is this damn team in Berea. [01:33:09] Ronnie Jams: Stupid orange helmets. [01:33:11] Big Dew Dawg: Can't. [01:33:12] Ronnie Jams: Maybe that's the key. [01:33:13] The Bone Man: We. [01:33:13] Ronnie Jams: Maybe. Maybe we've all been, like, holding on to the orange helmet. Maybe that's the key. We got to change it. [01:33:18] Kenny Thunder: I. I like the white one and the brown one. [01:33:20] Ronnie Jams: That's fair. I don't know. Anyways, gassed up. [01:33:23] Kenny Thunder: What do you got for us? Gassed up. You guys been to Steak and Shake? [01:33:25] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, not in a while. [01:33:26] Kenny Thunder: When's the last time you've been to a Steak and Shake? [01:33:28] The Bone Man: Three years, maybe five. [01:33:30] Ronnie Jams: I'm throwing it way back when to when we went and saw our friend jc. [01:33:34] Kenny Thunder: Oh, wow. [01:33:35] Big Dew Dawg: I love. [01:33:40] Ronnie Jams: Absolutely. Nobody knows what we're talking about. [01:33:44] Kenny Thunder: Anyways, Take a Shake was always kind of a cool place to go. Right? Like, the food was never great. Like, you didn't go there because the food was good. You went there because kind of like it was the only place open at [01:33:55] Ronnie Jams: Cool to put on kids. [01:33:57] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, it was the only place open at 2am on a Friday or Saturday night. [01:33:59] Ronnie Jams: Milkshake and their milkshake slapped. [01:34:01] Kenny Thunder: And their milkshake slapped. And it's kind of like a cool 50s ish vibe. Like, whatever, Drive in, whatever. I don't know what you're doing there, [01:34:07] Ronnie Jams: but yeah, I don't know. [01:34:08] Kenny Thunder: Talking with my hands, you know, that's the desean. [01:34:11] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:34:12] Kenny Thunder: There was too much Watson talk tonight. [01:34:15] Ronnie Jams: All of a sudden you just look like you're. You're fondling something. Illegal fondling. [01:34:20] Kenny Thunder: I'm losing my mind here. There's been a lot of, like, reorganization of the franchise component of Steak and Shake. If you guys have been following it all, all in the past couple of years. [01:34:31] Ronnie Jams: Can't say that I have. [01:34:32] Kenny Thunder: At what point they were offering franchisees the opportunity basically to own a Steak and Shake restaurant for $10,000. They were like, we just need dedicated people that want to make this work and do well. So they lowered the cost of entry and. And they had some success with that. Wasn't all great. Recently they've introduced a beef tallow to fry their fries and their tots, and they've introduced Wu Burgers. Like they're trying to stay trendy and stay with the times. This week we went to dinner there because I hadn't been in a long time. Right. It's been a minute. [01:35:04] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. [01:35:05] Kenny Thunder: I can remember going to that place at 2am on a Friday night and like waiting for a table, like for a half hour. Like it was that busy. Yeah, we go there for dinner. Just needed a quick bite this week. And the first thing that I'm struck by is you don't sit down and order your food anymore. Anymore what? You order your food at a kiosk and then you go sit down. So it's. It's all of a sudden very much More like casual quick service restaurant as opposed to. [01:35:35] Ronnie Jams: I don't like that instantly. I don't like that instantly was turned off. It kills the whole 50s diner vibe. Like it, if you go from like you look around and there's 50s diner everything and then you're ordering at a kiosk. Like, what's the point? [01:35:48] Kenny Thunder: Yes. And so the kiosk itself was fine if fun. Functioned perfectly. Like I got my order in, but angry. I was instantly turned off by this as well. And is my. I make my order, I notice that the, the receipt prints out and I kind of look at it, but it printed out on the end of like 15 other receipts that were all still tied to the machine. So in my mind I'm going, I probably don't need that. Right? Like I put my name in and I got an order number. So I'm kept 10 and I'm 72. I'm like, if they say either one of those things, I'll know that one is mine. You no longer can order. So you have to self service your drinks. And so I walk over to the drink fountain. I've ordered two fountain drinks. I've ordered a fountain drink for myself and for my wife and I pull a cup out of the thing and [01:36:41] Ronnie Jams: pay the same price. Doing all the work yourself. [01:36:43] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, right. [01:36:45] Ronnie Jams: Prices are probably way higher. [01:36:46] Kenny Thunder: And here was the worst part. I go to get my Diet Coke and I put the Coke under the thing and I press the button and it's. No juice comes out. And I'm like, this is odd. So I start putting my cup under every fountain and none of them work. It's the same. No. No soda. No soda for you. [01:37:07] Ronnie Jams: Oh no. [01:37:08] Kenny Thunder: And so I'm like, what is, what's going on? I'm looking around, I'm trying to see like what other people are doing. How are they getting their pop out of the, the machine? I noticed a very small like barcode reader next to the machine. And I'm like talking to my. I think we need maybe our ticket. So I go back and I siphon, siphon through the, the 15 receipts and I find Ken 72. And I do notice there's like a barcode on the bottom of it. So I take that back over to the machine, putting it under. Nothing's happening. Like I, I feel like an idiot now because I, I'm not, I, I'm not competent enough. [01:37:44] Ronnie Jams: I will say, not that I'm a fan of anything that's happening in this story, but you are technologically stupid. Like everything that we have technological. That you have to figure out you can't do it anyways. Go on, I guess. [01:38:02] Kenny Thunder: So I finally ask the girl and I'm like, if I find someone to talk to, like, there's got to be a human back there somewhere. [01:38:09] Ronnie Jams: You'd think that. [01:38:11] Kenny Thunder: And she comes out and she's like, like, you got to scan your, your ticket. And she goes over and she can't find it. There's no ticket there for you. I'm like, well, that's a problem because I need drink. So she brings over the manager, he goes over and he's like, where's the ticket? And I'm like, I don't know where the ticket is. Like, this shouldn't be that. All I want is a Diet Coke. Like we've, we've over engineered the process to the point where I can't even get a drink out of the fountain. And so he goes back, back and he's like trying to, he's like, what do you want to drink? I'll get it for you out of the back. And so I was like, okay. So he takes my cup and I go over to the thing and I start rifling through the receipts and I finally found some QR codes over there. And that is apparently what you need to get your drink out of the fountain now. So no wait staff, no wait service. Don't take my order. I've got to get my own drink. I need this weird QR code in order to do it. I do put the QR code under the machine at one point. And I'm filling up my cup and you know how pop kind of fizzes at the top? You can't just keep filling it because you have to wait for the, the, the stuff to go down the old fizzy. When the fizz went down, the machine had stopped working. I had to rescan my car. My code just to fill up my, my. [01:39:26] Ronnie Jams: I might never go to Steak and Shake again. [01:39:28] Kenny Thunder: And, and so then I finally, eventually. [01:39:30] Ronnie Jams: Because now I'm really wanting a Frisco melt. [01:39:32] Kenny Thunder: I eventually get my, my, my, my Dr. Sit down. And we're waiting, and we're waiting and the milkshakes come out. Milkshake still slaps. Happy to write home about that. But the food is taking an exorbitant amount of time to get made. And I'm looking in the kitchen and there's like 11 people back there. And I'm like, okay. This type of model where I do now have to do 50% of the work, only makes sense if like this process. Right. Like get me in and out. So if it takes longer to deliver the food as it used to when I had a waitress, why is this working for anyone? And so it took a really long time and a food finally did come out. Wife's burger was ice cold. Mine was fine. It was okay. What I will say is that the switch to tallow and however they have reconfigured their deep fryers for their french fries and their tater tots, absolute bomb were the best. Like, their fries always kind of sucked. Like shoestring. Kind of soft, noodly crispy. [01:40:35] Ronnie Jams: Just I like the shoestring. They just did. Didn't do a very good job of it. [01:40:40] Kenny Thunder: They did a really poor, poor execution. The fries, absolutely best. Best shoestring. They were like fair quality. [01:40:46] Ronnie Jams: You might have swung me back, but what I've gathered from this whole story is only go through the drive thru. [01:40:50] Kenny Thunder: Drive through. That was. That was basically my impression as I left was like, I can't go back in there because. [01:40:54] Ronnie Jams: Because this sounds like the worst experience. [01:40:55] Kenny Thunder: It was a terrible experience. [01:40:56] Ronnie Jams: And it sucks because to Your point, the 50s diner experience is actually a really fun one. Like, it's one that I still enjoy because when I grew up like that was. We didn't go out to eat that often. My mom was for most of my childhood was a single mother of four children. And so like we couldn't afford to go out to eat very often. And when we did, she knew how to like, okay, we're gonna go like a steak and shake because it's gonna be fun. Like the kids get to sit in the 50s diner. [01:41:20] Kenny Thunder: Reasonably price is a burger and fries. [01:41:22] Ronnie Jams: Exactly. So I have a lot of really good memories growing up. We would. My aunt lived in Mansfield and. And we would stay with her for a week every summer and. And they would drop us off, they would meet up in. Or she didn't live in Mansfield, she lived in Delaware. We would meet up in Mansfield. And in Mansfield, at that exit, there's a steak and shake. [01:41:40] Kenny Thunder: There is a steak and shake. There's also really good pizza at the 7 11. [01:41:44] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. And so I don't know about that, but steak and shake is. We would go there all the time. Like that's where we would meet and we would eat and then we would go ourselves. Yeah. And so a lot of good memories of steak and shake growing up. And a lot of it has to do with that 50s diner atmosphere. And now you're telling me that it's all taken away, replaced by, by kiosks and a bunch of QR codes. [01:42:02] Kenny Thunder: It feels like you walked into a really bad like dystopian sci fi restaurant and it's like it's, it's, it's. Everything's new. [01:42:09] Ronnie Jams: Like you're aware of the humans. [01:42:10] Kenny Thunder: Yeah, everything's new and modern and looks like it should work seamlessly, but it doesn't. And then you end up waiting longer for your food. So just a very poor experience overall. Like they need to go back and rethink some of that model because it wasn't working for me. [01:42:23] Ronnie Jams: We're here to say bring back 50s diner model. Bring back a waitress, your milkshake still slap your fries and deep fried stuff for are good. [01:42:33] Kenny Thunder: That was an improvement. [01:42:35] Ronnie Jams: But for people listening at home only go through the drive thru. [01:42:38] Kenny Thunder: They forgot all of my sauces. I had to go back to the counter and ask for sauces. They forgot the chocolate milk order for my son. [01:42:44] Ronnie Jams: You had to make sure you ordered on the kiosk extra sauces and they didn't even read it to give you the extra sauce. [01:42:49] Kenny Thunder: You know they're going to charge you 50 cents a sauce. So you know, I'm one of those people that I'm like, I'm paying for 50 cents of sauce. Like I'm going to get my damn sauce cuz I paid for it. It's one that me if you're handing them out cuz like what's it cost you to give me some barbecue sauce? Like nothing. [01:43:02] The Bone Man: Right. [01:43:02] Kenny Thunder: But if I'm paying 50 cents, like I want my sauce. So don't, don't tease me. Like that just wasn't a good, wasn't a good experience. [01:43:11] The Bone Man: I, I just kept thinking about the drinks and I'm just like, I guess just too many people were stealing them. Like, you know, like, yeah, like what's [01:43:17] Ronnie Jams: the overhead on your soda? They had to put a, like like I worked at Subway for a long time and you have to steal like 47 sodas before it. [01:43:23] Kenny Thunder: That was my problem with it. Right. Because look, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell have all existed for several decades now and none of them have gone broke over soda theft. [01:43:34] The Bone Man: Right. [01:43:35] Kenny Thunder: So like what are we really guarding against here? [01:43:37] Ronnie Jams: And I'm pretty sure there is a lot of soda theft at those places. [01:43:40] Kenny Thunder: There probably is, but like not enough to bankrupt you. [01:43:43] The Bone Man: I, I would say the late night crowd is probably the big issue that made them go to something like that. Yeah, I work in an industry where we have overtime at night sometimes and we used to get meals and we would go to Steak and Shake because they were open in the middle of the night as whatever an option to eat and no longer an option for the bone Man. Sometimes there was some rowdy ass shit going on at that. The Steak and Shake that we frequented. Yeah. In the middle of the night. [01:44:09] Ronnie Jams: So it's fine. Fall Steak and Shake. [01:44:12] The Bone Man: I. I don't know. I see a little bit from that perspective I guess of. Of how they. I guess had to accommodate the soda. Like you know what's funny though, I don't know. [01:44:21] Kenny Thunder: Like is they weren't guarded on their sweet tea because those are just in can. Sweet tea and unsweet tea. You can steal as much as you want. [01:44:28] Ronnie Jams: There's only so much of it in there. [01:44:29] Kenny Thunder: You know, at some point they run out before they go bankrupt. [01:44:33] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:44:34] Kenny Thunder: Final thing on this. So when I left after everything and I had to clean up all my own food. Right. Like that was annoying too. But the final thing I did before I walked out of there was I took my QR code sticker and I just put it under the scanner. So it was just every 15 seconds. So. So hopefully like somebody got some soda Genius. At the end of the day I [01:44:58] Ronnie Jams: can figure it out but the next [01:44:59] Kenny Thunder: guy won't have the same problem. [01:45:01] Big Dew Dawg: He'll just. [01:45:02] Kenny Thunder: It'll. The soda machine will just work when he comes up to it. [01:45:05] Ronnie Jams: Genius, genius, genius. [01:45:06] Kenny Thunder: You're welcome. Steak and Shake corporate. [01:45:09] Ronnie Jams: Oh man, I love that. Way to stick it to the man. That. [01:45:12] Kenny Thunder: That was what it was. I was like, I am sticking it to the man on the way out. Did it. [01:45:17] Big Dew Dawg: Man. [01:45:17] Ronnie Jams: Man, I'm so proud of you. This is the. Maybe my proudest moment is. Do you know what that takes us to, Kenny? [01:47:35] Kenny Thunder: Facts for? [01:47:51] Ronnie Jams: What do you got for us, Kenny? [01:47:53] Kenny Thunder: I kind of a unique one here today. [01:47:56] Ronnie Jams: Unique New York. [01:47:57] Kenny Thunder: Unique. [01:47:58] Ronnie Jams: The arsonist had oddly shaped feet. [01:47:59] Kenny Thunder: It's not multiple human torch facts. [01:48:02] Ronnie Jams: Bank loan today per se. [01:48:03] Kenny Thunder: It's one fact. [01:48:04] Ronnie Jams: One fact. [01:48:05] Kenny Thunder: But there are multiple facts about that fact. [01:48:07] Ronnie Jams: I usually get. Wait, so you're not getting three facts. [01:48:12] Kenny Thunder: You're not getting robbed of facts. You're still getting facts. But there's. There's probably more facts than three. [01:48:19] Ronnie Jams: If you say facts enough times in a row, it doesn't sound like a word anymore. [01:48:21] Kenny Thunder: Facts acts. I'm going to probably be careful here. [01:48:29] Ronnie Jams: Go on. [01:48:31] Kenny Thunder: So I'm curious, I don't know if maybe either one of you guys have ever heard this or know this, but you ever had Hershey's chocolate? Have you ever had Hershey's ice cream tea? [01:48:46] Ronnie Jams: Yeah. Have you ever had The Hershey Squirts. [01:48:50] Big Dew Dawg: See? [01:48:53] Kenny Thunder: Did you know that those two were not the same company? [01:48:57] Big Dew Dawg: No. [01:48:57] The Bone Man: Crazy. [01:48:58] Ronnie Jams: I did not know this. [01:48:59] Kenny Thunder: Hershey Creamery Company, Hershey's Ice Cream was founded by Jacob Hershey and four of his brothers in 1894 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. [01:49:12] Ronnie Jams: Oh, they're both in Pennsylvania then. [01:49:14] Kenny Thunder: The Hershey Company was founded by Milton Hershey in 1894. [01:49:20] Ronnie Jams: Wait, they were founded the same year [01:49:21] Kenny Thunder: as the Hershey Chocolate Company in Hershey, Pennsylvania? Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Both companies founded the same year in the same town. Would you look? With the same name? Zero relation. [01:49:35] Ronnie Jams: That's wild. [01:49:35] Kenny Thunder: In fact, not only. Number one. [01:49:38] The Bone Man: Yeah. [01:49:39] Kenny Thunder: In fact, not only are they not related at all. [01:49:42] Ronnie Jams: Make sure you let us know when you move on to a new fact. [01:49:45] Kenny Thunder: These have. There's been two facts already. There's two already. [01:49:48] Ronnie Jams: Oh, when they were founded. Okay. [01:49:50] Kenny Thunder: When they found where they were founded. [01:49:51] The Bone Man: Okay. [01:49:52] Kenny Thunder: In fact, not only are they not related, their relationship has been quite a tricky one. Very tumultuous, you might say. Marked by multiple lawsuits over trademark issues. [01:50:06] Ronnie Jams: Well, yeah, they're both called a Hershey. [01:50:10] Kenny Thunder: So the, the, the troubles first came when the Hershey Creamery began producing its own own chocolate, candy and cocoa. [01:50:18] Ronnie Jams: Oh, those sons of. [01:50:20] Kenny Thunder: In. In 1919, and after cease and desist letters failed to resolve the problem, Milton Hershey filed suit in 1921 in the U.S. district District Court for trademark infringement. This went on until 1926 when a judge partially sided with Hershey Chocolate and prohibited the creamery from using the name Hershey's in connection with the manufacturer, manufacturer, advertisement, distribution or sale of chocolate, cocoa, chocolate confections and chocolate or cocoa products. So things kind of quieted down for a while. Until 1958. [01:50:54] Ronnie Jams: Let me guess. The chocolate company made ice cream when the chocolate. Hell yes, those dicks. [01:51:02] Kenny Thunder: When the chocolate company worked with Consolidated Foods Corporation to license chocolate ice cream bars to which suits were filed and there was a settlement reached in which the creamery agreed to drop butter from its trademark, but allowed the Hershey Chocolate Company to release ice cream bars under specific guidelines. And then with respect to that, then the Hershey Company agreed that they wouldn't challenge the Hershey's Creamery anymore for the name rights. Later on, the creamery expanded its line to include include frozen yogurt and the like. And then additional lawsuits ensued in the late 80s early 90s, resulting in a final out of court settlement with the Hershey Creamery agreeing to put a disclaimer on all of its products, corporate website and in promotional materials and press releases that simply Notes. Not affiliated with Hershey's Chocolate. So if you look next time you're in the grocery store, there is a big white banner at the bottom all those ice cream containers that says we are not Hershey's chocolate. To this day, Hershey park will not sell Hershey ice cream. Relies on other brands like Turkey Hill. [01:52:19] Ronnie Jams: Good for them. Way to stand on business. [01:52:21] Kenny Thunder: Standing on business. But there's just a lot of confusion [01:52:25] Ronnie Jams: because why would you think that the [01:52:27] Kenny Thunder: Hershey's ice cream wasn't the Hershey's chocolate? I, I always, my entire life was like I just assumed they were. [01:52:33] Ronnie Jams: Well, you're a completed. You don't know anything. [01:52:35] The Bone Man: There's a Hershey's ice cream store in Hudson. [01:52:39] Kenny Thunder: There you go. [01:52:39] The Bone Man: And I was not the chocolate store. Now I gotta go visit not the chocolate store. [01:52:42] Ronnie Jams: Yeah, I bet they have a big white banner on their building that says not affiliated with Hershey. [01:52:46] The Bone Man: I'm gonna go find that. [01:52:46] Kenny Thunder: They must. [01:52:48] Big Dew Dawg: It's the law. [01:52:50] Kenny Thunder: They must. So yeah, I just thought that was interesting because I had always assumed those two to be the same. Obviously the big winner here is Hershey's Chocolate. Because they're a multinational, multi billion dollar organization. You ever been to that park? No, cuz they don't sell the ice cream that I want. Listen, Hershey's ice cream is the regional supplier of soft serve delicious treats and snacks. [01:53:15] Ronnie Jams: I will say the amusement park slaps. [01:53:18] The Bone Man: Oh, great park. [01:53:19] Big Dew Dawg: All. [01:53:19] Ronnie Jams: All for one relatively reasonable price. You get amused. Amusement park, zoo and water park. [01:54:23] Kenny Thunder: That's because they're the Hershey food. [01:54:31] Kenny Thunder: That's probably a place that I won't go anytime soon. It's not conducive for the diet. [01:54:36] Big Dew Dawg: No. [01:54:37] Kenny Thunder: Cheese and chocolate ice cream aren't on the. [01:54:39] Ronnie Jams: You lost 100 and some pounds.
