[00:00:55] Speaker B: Media.
It's time.
[00:01:16] Speaker C: Time for the Burning River sportscast. The Greenbriar, a tradition unlike some others officially in the books. And the goddamn jets are next on the agenda. That's right. Hall of Fame weekend is here. And it's time to see Joe Thomas and his 10,363 consecutive snaps immortalized forever. Unlike Draft Day, my guess is he won't be fishing. And then they'll play a meaningless football game, and we'll all head our separate ways as we hunker down and prepare for real football. The Guardians continue to guard 500, waiting for something to click.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: We'll keep waiting.
[00:01:48] Speaker C: And while you wait, we'll break down all the hottest Cleveland Sports summer stories, next on The Burning River Sportscast.
[00:01:56] Speaker B: Nobody wants to see not a single person wants to see you naked.
[00:02:00] Speaker C: Wait until I get gastric bypass.
[00:02:03] Speaker B: Sure, it's all backups and nobody cares, but NFL's backed NFL football is here.
[00:02:09] Speaker C: Sweaty man on man action. Hell, yes. And balls flying through the air. And sacks all over the ground.
[00:02:16] Speaker B: So many sacks.
[00:02:18] Speaker D: I love balls and sacks.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: You heard it here first. Kenny does not like the dog.
[00:02:22] Speaker C: No, they're already discounting it on their team store.
[00:02:25] Speaker B: That was a flash sale.
[00:02:26] Speaker C: I looked it up. You're a flash sale?
[00:02:28] Speaker B: No. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?
[00:02:30] Speaker C: Man, I'm not a professional athlete, okay?
You know what I had to eat today?
[00:02:37] Speaker B: A whole pizza.
[00:02:39] Speaker C: Starbucks, donut Ford Dream Bars.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: I undersold it.
[00:02:45] Speaker C: McChicken, a double cheeseburger, a large fry.
[00:02:48] Speaker B: I really undersold it.
[00:02:51] Speaker C: And I haven't eaten dinner yet. This is going to blow your balls off.
Welcome in to the Burning River sportscast presented by Tapping Media And brought to you by the Cleveland Browns Fan Cruise. I'm Tenny Thunder, seated next to the man who is just a Barbie girl in a Barbie world. He can walk in six inch plastic heels. Red hot Ronnie jams. Then who needs plastic when our board op is brought to you by Milk to give us the strongest bone in the game? Bone, man. How are you?
[00:03:18] Speaker D: I'm doing great, guys.
[00:03:20] Speaker C: Ronnie, where can our friends find the dopest brown spot in the land with an RV full of headless naked lady dolls.
[00:03:27] Speaker B: Well, first of all, is it a skill to walk in plastic high heels? I thought that was something everybody could do.
[00:03:33] Speaker C: No, that's definitely a skill.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Well, I'm talented.
[00:03:35] Speaker C: Congratulations.
[00:03:37] Speaker B: You can find our podcast wherever you get your podcast. I'm talking Apple Podcasts, spotify Stitcher. Google Podcasts. Amazon Music. [00:04:14] Speaker C: Sure are.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: All right, so that'll take us to the Burning River news story of the week.
All right, so once again, we usually do a news story to open the show. Instead, we want to remind you that we us here at Burning River Sportscast and Tapin Media have been working on our own news story for over a year. It involves one of our very own Cleveland Sports franchises and conspiracy that has inadvertently turned into another conspiracy. It's a story that you need to hear. Did the organization know what they were doing in attempting to fix a perceived wrong? Did they actually make the only decision that could have made things any worse? How did their PR teams not see the ramifications of the decisions they ended up making? Keep an eye out for the Cleveland news story of the year.
[00:05:03] Speaker C: Oh, my God.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: I'm so excited. It's coming.
Never mind that'll. Take us to the Burning River Rundown.
All right, so training camp has been happening all week, but we'll get to that in just a minute. To start off the Burning River Rundown, we have some potential big free agent news that just came across today. Defensive tackle Shelby Harris is visiting with the Browns today. It'd be a huge addition, especially now that Perry and Winfrey went crazy and has kicked off the.
[00:05:41] Speaker C: Whole the whole situation with Perrion is unfortunate.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: I mean, we feel for him. I say that in Jess, but he has some serious issues he needs to work out for.
[00:05:50] Speaker C: Sure.
Look, Shelby Harris, Mike Paris, I don't care. We need somebody on that defensive front that can be a role player.
[00:06:02] Speaker B: Well, and I think Shelby Harris is definitely a huge upgrade from I mean, if Perrion Winfrey was the guy you were banking on, I think Shelby Harris is a huge upgrade from.
[00:06:13] Speaker C: Went. And we've talked to Nauseam all offseason about the fact that the defense was atrocious under Joe Woods, specifically the interior of that front seven. So, look, they got to do something.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: They still haven't addressed linebacker, but that's a whole other story.
[00:06:28] Speaker C: Yeah. So shelby Harris? Sure, I'm for it.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: All right, so as I mentioned, training camp at the Greenbriar has wrapped up, and the boys are coming home to Northeast Ohio. I think the biggest story coming out of camp is the connection between Deshaun Watson and Elijah Moore. That's kind of developed, right?
[00:06:45] Speaker C: I thought it was the fact that they did their whole Greenbriar camp inside of the bunker at the Greenbriar. It was like a missile bunker from, like, the Cold War.
[00:06:53] Speaker B: I mean, I guess that's cool.
If that's the biggest story and it's not football related, we probably have problems. But no. A lot of people, including us, have been saying all along that Elijah Moore was just kind of in the wrong situation, in to things started to come out when he was in New York and on his way over here, that he was kind of a cancer in a locker room. There's a lot of problems, but I think what we're starting to see is that those were largely overblown.
[00:07:22] Speaker C: Well, there was the whole thing after it was the Patriots game where they won, and he said they didn't get a single target.
[00:07:28] Speaker B: Yeah, well, and I think it was just again, he needed a change of scenery. It was frustration. I think the problems were overblown. It wasn't necessarily character issues. It was more just their relationship had run its course, and he needed to be somewhere else, is how I look at it.
[00:07:44] Speaker C: And I do think it's probably tough for a guy like Elijah Moore to come in as a he's not like he was the first overall pick, but he was a high pick, and there was some expectation there. And every professional athlete has an ego, especially wide receivers, and we've seen it time and time again, or sometimes it just doesn't work.
[00:08:05] Speaker B: So yeah, I agree. And, I mean, the best part about him coming over to Cleveland so far, he's been a vocal leader since he's arrived, and it's kind of starting to look like Andrew Barry may have found, like, another diamond in the rough where not a lot of people were thinking real highly of him.
[00:08:19] Speaker C: But I feel he was a diamond inside of K Jewelers. Just people didn't want to pay the price for him. But we were like, we'll do it.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:25] Speaker C: Who cares?
[00:08:26] Speaker B: And then on defense during training camp, we repeatedly have heard good things about Juan Thornhill and MJ. Emerson were the two that I saw keep popping up in the news.
[00:08:35] Speaker C: Oh, are you on the Juan Thornhill bandwagon again?
[00:08:37] Speaker B: I've always been on the Juan Thornhill bandwagon. He was one of my favorite pickups in the offseason just because I didn't think his tattoo was special.
[00:08:44] Speaker C: God, I hate and, you know, blow me away with surprise. MJ. Emerson's had a good camp. Okay. Yeah. Look great. I think those are the positions that we feel good about Juan Thornhill being an offseason acquisition, knowing knowing what you had before Juan Thornhill is what makes Juan Thornhill more impactful coming into the season.
[00:09:05] Speaker B: Yeah, I'd agree with that. And so by all accounts, training camp has gone very well for the Browns and they've looked great in most of their practices at the Greenbriar. It seems that both sides of the ball have dominated at times, but that kind of actually leads me to wonder, are we really that good?
[00:09:20] Speaker C: What does that mean?
[00:09:21] Speaker B: Or are we just not very good? And sometimes one side wins and sometimes the other wins. I don't know the answer to it. I wasn't.
[00:09:32] Speaker C: West Virginia just such a strange virginia such a strange thing that this happened.
I don't know.
It sounded like this was kind of set up to be like a team bonding thing. But then I've heard that a lot of the players invited their family and stuff to stay on the grounds. So I don't know if they'll continue to do this into the future or not, but I hope not.
[00:09:53] Speaker B: It just kind of takes away from the days that we can see them here in Berea.
[00:09:56] Speaker C: Just weird.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: But in all seriousness, the reports from camp have been solid. But I think me and you are kind of on the same page here and we always have been is until they prove it on the field. The Browns every single year win the offseason.
[00:10:10] Speaker C: I would say more often than not, I'm overly excited, overly optimistic, and can't wait for Brown season.
[00:10:19] Speaker B: We're both trying to temper because expectations, at least in Cleveland, not around the country, but at least in Cleveland, are like through the roof right now.
[00:10:28] Speaker C: And I'm like, I've finally reached the point of apathy with this team. And until they do something I don't expect can't I can't I love look, I love the Browns. I love watching the brown. I'll never miss a Browns game. I'll do anything I can to make sure they don't miss a Browns game.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: It's true. It's almost like a cult for you. Like you have to sit in front of the TV and watch a minute of Browns game.
[00:10:47] Speaker C: In fact, I like watching the Browns games on TV more than even going to them at this point because you just see so much more of the game.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: I would check it that you're just so much more comfortable too.
[00:10:55] Speaker C: Well, yeah, naked on my couch in the basement.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: Man, why do you have to give that visual to everybody? Nobody wants to see you naked except for your wife. You guys do have a baby, but besides that, nobody wants to see you. Not a single person wants to see you naked.
[00:11:07] Speaker C: Wait until I get gastric.
[00:11:10] Speaker B: Then.
[00:11:11] Speaker C: Even then, either way. Look, I'm just very apathetic about this team at this point. I think they got a lot of good things going for them. But we've said this year in and year out. Hell, I said that when Deshaun Kaiser was going to start.
So look, now we're on our second spell differently. I'm to the point where they have to show me something before I'm going to get excited.
[00:11:33] Speaker B: No, I'm with you. I really am. But according to everybody else, everything went well at camp, at least the portion that's been held at the greenbriar. That is until the last day when two fights broke out. Stefanski made everyone run sprints. So, I mean, I know there was some news organizations and some people out there trying to blow this story up. Like it was a big I mean, to me, it's kind of like Stefanski said in his press conference, fights happen at all camps at all levels. It's kind of a normal thing that happens in situations like this. People are battling for spots. People are hot. People are tired.
They just people are people. Yeah. I mean, it just happens. So I don't really read too much into it. I think it was more of a I mean, it was the last day of camp down there, so they were.
[00:12:13] Speaker C: Just like I mean, lest we forget that Aaron Donald went dual helmet swinging against the Cincinnati Bengals.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: Last NFL likes to sweep that under the rug because they had enough helmet swinging when Miles Garrett tried to knock what's his name's block off because he's.
[00:12:26] Speaker C: One of the faces of the league.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: Mason Rudolph. That guy's such a turd.
[00:12:30] Speaker C: But agreed.
[00:12:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:31] Speaker C: I mean, I think these things happen more often than not, and they happen at all levels of football. And it's normal. It's an emotional game. People get excited.
I don't see any long term lasting effects in this. Now, that's not to say that we won't see some issues in the locker room this year, because if this locker room looks like last year's locker room, even with the addition of Jim shorts, gym shorts.
[00:12:52] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:12:53] Speaker C: And it's still devoid of shorts in the game, if it's still devoid of leadership like it was all of last year, there will be problems in the locker room, but this isn't one of them.
[00:13:00] Speaker B: That's fair to say. I will say this, though.
If there's one thing you can count on with the Browns to your point right now, is as far as consistency goes, they've been very consistent at having problems in the locker room, basically as long as I can remember.
[00:13:18] Speaker C: Well, especially during the Barry and Stefanski years. I mean, it's come to a fever pitch with these guys.
[00:13:23] Speaker B: Yeah. So funny thing, though, during these skirmishes, if you will, did you see Okaranquo smack James Hudson in the face mask and then run away and started the second fight?
It was just funny. He just literally smacks him in the face and runs away. James Hudson chases him down and then all hell breaks loose.
[00:13:41] Speaker C: I mean, of all the fights that I'd like to see, I'd love to see big guys getting after, so well.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: It'S funny too, because you think? Like defensive end, like, he's a pretty big dude. Whatever. Standing next to James Hudson.
[00:13:52] Speaker C: James Hudson's. Really small, massive humanity.
[00:13:55] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, I could see why you smacked him in the face and ran away. I don't want any part of this.
But no, his response, Ogron was response to the situation. He tweeted out, it was a hot day today.
[00:14:06] Speaker C: It was hot. We had a couple of hot days.
[00:14:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:09] Speaker C: For the first time in a long time, it's felt like it was like summer. Summer.
[00:14:12] Speaker B: I know. June was the worst this year, wasn't it?
[00:14:14] Speaker C: June was so just felt like it never hit like summer. Full week of summer temperatures.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Yeah, July was a little bit better, but June was terrible.
But anyways, one of the positions that we were paying attention to during camp and we talked about it a couple of weeks ago was backup quarterback. And it appears as though DTR is really impressed. Dorian Thompson Robinson is really impressed. During camp, Stefanski did come out and say that DTR is going to play quite a bit against the jets in the hall of Fame game this week.
[00:14:45] Speaker C: He should. He's a rookie and this game means nothing. And he's playing against other Third and Fourth Street.
[00:14:52] Speaker B: To be fair, we like Josh Dobbs, but you kind of know what you have in Josh Dobbs. He's going to be what he is. And that's fine quarterback.
[00:14:59] Speaker C: I think the only question is, is Dorian Thompson Robinson potentially at a level where you could live without Josh Dobbs? Right.
[00:15:07] Speaker B: And I think that goes into this whole letting him play a lot in the preseason and kind of determining whether or not he could take that.
[00:15:14] Speaker C: And don't forget, I'm still on the bandwagon of people will be saying, calling for DTR to start before the season, before the preseason is over. People will be like, preseason is over. We don't even need that sex predator Deshaun Watson.
[00:15:26] Speaker B: You still have those?
[00:15:27] Speaker C: We have DTR. Let him play. I guarantee there will be some.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: You send me the story and we'll make sure we put it up on.
[00:15:33] Speaker C: It'll happen. It'll happen.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: But yeah. So DTR playing in the hall of Fame game. Which brings us to the hall of Fame game. It's here. We're playing football again. Sure, it's all backups and nobody cares, but NFL's backed NFL football is here.
And I guess position battles for roster spots are kind of important, right?
[00:15:53] Speaker C: Very important for this.
[00:15:56] Speaker B: You know, I always say there's two seasons, football season and waiting for football season. So we're finally back to football season. How excited are you, Kenny?
[00:16:05] Speaker C: I'm excited not to be bisexual anymore. I'm sorry. Bi weekly in the season.
No, look, this is the most glorious time of year. I love Christmas time, but this is probably the second best time of the year. Football is here. From here on out, it is a literal just slingshot into sweaty man on man action.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: Hell yes.
[00:16:26] Speaker C: And balls flying through the air. And sacks all over the ground.
[00:16:30] Speaker B: So many sacks.
Sacks and balls.
[00:16:34] Speaker C: I'm out of innuendos.
[00:16:36] Speaker B: All right, Bone man, how do you feel about NFL season being back, guys?
[00:16:41] Speaker D: I'm pumped, man. I just love watching football on Sundays.
[00:16:45] Speaker B: You like balls and huh?
[00:16:46] Speaker D: I love balls and sacks. And hopefully the Browns get a lot of that this year.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: You heard it here first. Bone loves balls and sacks.
[00:16:53] Speaker C: Who doesn't?
[00:16:55] Speaker B: So Kenny, give me two players to watch in the preseason game here.
[00:16:58] Speaker C: Yeah, you know, I hate when you put these just artificial stipulations around questions. You're like, give me one, give me two, I'll give you four.
Because to me, this game is all about and I'm actually looking forward to this game. Even though we talked. This is basically position battles. There's not going to be a whole lot of anything serious going on.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: Someone tried to troll me on Twitter when I tweeted about the game the other day. And they're like, oh, yeah, we just get to hear the announcers yak the whole time. And I'm like, yeah, but it's still NFL football. I don't care. Yeah.
[00:17:27] Speaker C: And I get to see the guys in my they're annoying. And I get to see the guys in my jersey this year.
[00:17:31] Speaker B: He had a fair point. He just wanted less yaking from the announcers and more football talk.
[00:17:36] Speaker C: Yeah, but there's nothing good to talk about. But anyways, here's what I would talk about. Give me two players to watch. The guys that I'm going to be watching really closely in this game are your backup linebacker crew. So guys like Charlie Thomas, Mohammed Diabati, Tony Fields, Jordan Kimnachek, I think one of these guys is going to have to step up because I just don't trust the health of Anthony Walker, Sony.
[00:17:58] Speaker B: Takitake, J, OK, nothing against those guys.
[00:18:00] Speaker C: We like those guys. Phillips so to me, those guys just still even at healthy aren't premier players. So if one of these guys can step up and show something in the offseason, in the preseason, I would be ecstatic. Again, I don't have super high expectations. You look at some of these guys. These aren't all guys. Mohamed Diabadi is a rookie. These other guys have kind of been around. But guys like these are always developmental pieces. So you never know from year to year.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: Remember last year when Tony Fields had his day in the phenomena?
[00:18:31] Speaker C: He was dog of the week last.
[00:18:32] Speaker B: Year, that was dope ass.
[00:18:33] Speaker C: You never know if these guys will develop into better players down the road, even though they weren't like highly acclaimed coming out. So that's it for me is watching these linebackers because one of these guys is going to play minutes this year. A lot of them.
[00:18:47] Speaker B: Yep. What about you, bone? Who two to watch?
[00:18:51] Speaker D: I'm looking at David Bell, second year wide receiver.
[00:18:54] Speaker B: I love David Bell. The venus fly trap.
[00:18:57] Speaker D: That's what we call him here, the Venus fly trap. I like it. I want to see him do well. I thought he had a lot of potential coming in last year, and we're going to see if he can get a spot on the team because they.
[00:19:06] Speaker B: Didn'T really get him the ball enough last year.
[00:19:08] Speaker D: Yeah, I agree. Wide receiver him is pretty full, so we'll see how he does.
[00:19:12] Speaker B: Who else you got?
[00:19:13] Speaker D: I'm looking at Isaiah McGuire, rookie out of Missouri.
[00:19:16] Speaker B: Nice.
[00:19:17] Speaker D: Kind of shorten up that D line. See if you can get kind of a role play and hopefully get some snaps.
[00:19:22] Speaker B: I like it. I like it. All good picks so far. It seems like you guys had a.
[00:19:25] Speaker C: Lot of who are you going with?
[00:19:27] Speaker B: You guys had a lot of defense, so I'm going to go completely offense.
First off, we already talked about him a little bit, but I'm starting with DTR. Dorian Thompson Robinson.
[00:19:36] Speaker C: You're going to be the guy calling.
[00:19:37] Speaker B: For DTR to no, I'm going to be calling for him probably to be the backup over Josh Dobbs. I think he has a lot of potential.
[00:19:48] Speaker C: It's still a tough call, though, man, because you're talking about Deshaun Watson's, a mobile guy, been out of the game for a long time. Josh Dobbs could see action on the field.
[00:19:56] Speaker B: I mean, I agree with you. I'm just saying I think DTR, I think they may have found I wouldn't call him like a top tier quarterback or anything like that, but they may have found a solid backup that can play minutes when you need him to maybe a little bit more talented than Josh Dobbs. Again, I like Josh Dobbs, but he's interesting nonetheless.
[00:20:15] Speaker C: And who knows what his ceiling is? And that's the question.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Yeah. So the first one there was DTR, and then my next one is Jalen Darden, wide receiver and kick returner. Basically what I have written down for this guy is I mean, he's Jaqueem Grant, but younger and cheaper. Now, I do think Jaqueem Grant is ultimately the better player.
However, I do also I'm a realist, and I know that the Browns eventually are going to have to start saving some money somewhere. And so I think that if you can make him a casualty, jacemb, let's.
[00:20:48] Speaker C: Just make him a casualty.
[00:20:49] Speaker B: No, not that we don't want to do that, but no, I just think that you're going to get similar production possibly out of a much younger player. So I'd like to see what he can do on the return side, especially.
[00:21:02] Speaker C: I feel for Jacem Grant, man. I felt like this actually was going to be a good situation for him to come into. Injury killed it, especially when Deshaun got the play. I thought he had a chance at actually making some headwinds as an actual pass catcher in this offense, but it's a tough injury to come back from and his game is speed. Right. I mean, it's one thing that's the.
[00:21:23] Speaker B: Other part of this, wanting to see what Jalen Darden can do. You don't know how Jaqueem Grant's coming back from his injury. So it was a devastating so devastating.
All right, so next up, last episode, we mentioned a couple Browns legends. Clay Matthews and Marty Schottenheimer were named finalists for the hall of Fame next year. Update on that. Clay Matthews is out. He did not make it through to the next level of finalists for the hall of Fame. So better luck next year. Kenny, you're probably pretty upset by this. I know you had a strong case for mean how you feel right now.
[00:21:54] Speaker C: Look, I just think that this surprised me when this news came out because I thought if one of them was going to make it, it was Clay would have made it because the non player group is so strong this year.
But look, we talked about it a little bit last time, right? I mean, from I forget what year he was drafted, 70 or 79, maybe in 77. And they didn't start tracking sacks until 82. He still finished with around 70 career sacks. So if you bring in four or five lost seasons of sacks, he's over 100 sacks, which everybody else that's over 100 sacks is probably in the hall of Fame.
Yeah, I think he deserves it. We'll keep plugging it.
[00:22:31] Speaker B: Hopefully it wasn't one of his daughters went through and actually logged him.
[00:22:34] Speaker C: And it was yeah, based on her calculations, which I didn't do them myself based on her, she said his numbers are hall of Fame worthy, for sure.
[00:22:43] Speaker B: Maybe that would be a video we do. We go back through the old footage and we just count every single one of Clay Matthews sacks.
[00:22:48] Speaker C: Would be a lot of work to do, for sure, but we're going to.
[00:22:52] Speaker B: Put bone man on it.
[00:22:53] Speaker C: But he also played for 19 seasons, so everything about his tenure in the NFL was impressive.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree. I mean, it was kind of weird hearing the news, and I would agree with you. I would have thought it was him over Marty Schottenheimer, but Marty Schottenheimer still in it.
[00:23:07] Speaker C: Still in it to win it.
[00:23:08] Speaker B: As we mentioned last time, the dude won everything but the Super Bowl. But the non player pool is very strong this year. We still do, once again, we still do have names. Like Mike Holmgren, Robert Kraft, dan Reeves, art Rooney Jr. Mike Shanahan, amy Trask, and of course, that piece of shit art model. May he rot in hell.
[00:23:26] Speaker C: Didn't they cut model, though? Isn't he out?
[00:23:28] Speaker B: Oh, good. Thank God.
[00:23:30] Speaker C: I thought he was out.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: I didn't I didn't see that update, so I can breathe a sigh of relief. I hope he never gets in. Yeah, but that being said, Marty may still be on the outside looking in with all those names to compete with for this year, though. For this year, we're so excited to see Joe Thomas enshrined.
[00:23:49] Speaker C: We got a guy.
[00:23:50] Speaker B: We got a guy. So, like you said, 10,363 snaps. The longest snap streak in NFL history that will never be broken. I don't care what anybody says. It's not happening. Nobody's ever even been close.
It's just not going to happen. I would say this, it could have happened to a better guy. If you've ever heard anybody talk about Joe Thomas, they just talk about what a great guy he is.
[00:24:12] Speaker C: And now he's just shredded out the wazoo.
[00:24:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, you're just yoked. He's like, I don't have to eat 7000 calories a day anymore, so I look pretty good. Yeah, he always knew how to work out, but when you cut those calories, now you look good.
[00:24:29] Speaker C: This is a long time coming. I mean, we watched so many bad Browns teams with Joe Thomas on it, and every year you just felt like, man, you have this guy that is a literal hall of Famer on your team and they just couldn't get anything together.
[00:24:44] Speaker B: It just breaks your heart hearing the story of Peyton Manning recruiting him, trying to recruit him for the Denver Broncos. And he said he was torn at the time because he didn't want to leave the Browns. He goes, yeah, we suck. But I love coming to work every single day. I absolutely love it, coming to work. And it's just one of those things that further endears him to the city of Cleveland. The fact that you can put up with that year after year after year, and you still love what you're doing in this city is a testament to just the character that that guy has.
[00:25:16] Speaker C: I mean, the Browns, literally, over the last 20 years, have lost more football games than any other franchise ever, by like 20 games.
And Joe Thomas was a big part of that. Not like it was his fault, but he was his tenure.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: That's why he's going to the hall, because he was a big part of why we lost so many games.
[00:25:32] Speaker C: His tenure existed during that.
[00:25:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:35] Speaker C: Yeah, man, what a shame. But, I mean, the excellence that he played with every day, there's nobody better.
[00:25:41] Speaker B: Yep. And then finally for the Browns this week, they hinted on their social media today that they will be removing Brownie the Elf from midfield and going with something different this year. So I'm sure Kenny is beside himself because the way things have been going and how they've been building things up, I think we can all guess what's coming here, right?
[00:26:00] Speaker C: If they put that stupid dog, darth.
[00:26:03] Speaker B: Dog, as I've heard, he's come to.
[00:26:05] Speaker C: Be known, if they put that stupid dog in the midfield.
[00:26:10] Speaker B: What are you going to do?
[00:26:11] Speaker C: I'll just lose my shit.
[00:26:12] Speaker B: What are you going to do? Are you going to be the guy that goes and turfs the field this year?
[00:26:15] Speaker C: God, I'll. Be calling that guy and asking to do it again.
[00:26:19] Speaker B: So is it safe to say that that is not your dog?
[00:26:25] Speaker C: I wish. If they were going to do that, if the new dog mascot was going to be the center field logo, that they would have allowed it to be a straight fan vote.
[00:26:37] Speaker B: Oh, fair. Yeah. Instead of planning their own, we hired graphic designers to design a few and make it extra special.
[00:26:45] Speaker C: Yeah. Especially because that one's not cool.
[00:26:49] Speaker B: You heard it here first. Kenny does not like the dog.
[00:26:52] Speaker C: No, they're already discounting it on their team store.
[00:26:55] Speaker B: That was a flash sale.
[00:26:56] Speaker C: I looked it up. You're a flash sale. No, they can't sell it. Nobody has a hat. Nobody wants one. You're a flash sale.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: All right, so Kenny does not like the dog and does not want it at midfield. Got it.
[00:27:07] Speaker C: I don't want it anywhere.
[00:27:10] Speaker B: All right. We're done with the browns. That's it. That's all the browns is. Just shut up. Shut your mouth.
[00:27:14] Speaker C: I'm going to make a urinal.
[00:27:15] Speaker B: Shut your mouth. Just coming off. Stupid. All right, so the next step, we have the Guardians.
[00:27:19] Speaker C: Where's logo girl when you need her?
[00:27:20] Speaker B: I know.
We got the Guardians up next. They're currently sitting at 53 and 53. They're second in the Al central. They are now only half a game back of the Twins. Look, I don't know if it's last week I issued a correction or two weeks ago I issued a correction for the previous episode saying, at first I said it was coming together, then I wasn't sure it was coming together. I have no idea if it's coming together. And now we have trades, which we'll get to in a minute, but I don't know what's happening. This is the most frustrating baseball team that I've ever watched because they'll lose like five in a row. Then they win five in a row to get back to 500. And then they're like, we're here. We're finally going to get over the hump. And then as soon as they get to 500, they just lose again and.
[00:28:01] Speaker C: They'Ll lose those five games against Kansas City.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: The teams have to beat if they're.
[00:28:07] Speaker C: Going to win the division and then they'll go win a series against Minnesota. Some of these better teams.
[00:28:13] Speaker B: Yeah, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
[00:28:16] Speaker C: Yeah. Very frustrating team, I think. Look, every year we hope for the Guardians to make some kind of move at the deadline. Like, that's going to change everything. And I know we got some moves to talk about here, but these moves.
[00:28:29] Speaker B: Do anything for us right now.
[00:28:30] Speaker C: The Guardians just historically don't do that.
[00:28:34] Speaker B: No.
[00:28:34] Speaker C: So I'm not going to hold my breath. I think if this team does click at this point, it's going to be up to some of these younger guys. And so when I say younger guys, I'm thinking about like, Bo Nailer. I don't understand why we're not seeing more of Bo Nailer. He's played really well in the time that he's come up.
[00:28:51] Speaker B: He's hitting more over the last couple.
[00:28:53] Speaker C: Of weeks, but he still played sparingly. So I don't know what Tito's keeping him off the field for, but I just think it's going to be too much swag because the young guys in the bullpen already, they're exhausting every resource they have to keep the bullpen alive, which we'll talk about here, I guess, with but yeah.
[00:29:12] Speaker B: So in the trade news, they did finally trade Ahmed Rosario. Everybody's kind of been asking for him to be traded all season long. He's underperformed all year. He kind of underperformed last year, even. And now now we can use that roster spot to bring in SpongeBob More. Oscar Gonzalez can get some more playing time. Oh, and we also acquired, as you mentioned, Noah Sindergard as part of that.
[00:29:36] Speaker C: Look, Nova Sindergard, at this point in his career, is not a guy that's.
[00:29:39] Speaker B: Going to he's not the Noah a.
[00:29:41] Speaker C: Lot of people, but he is a guy that can come and pitch four and five innings for you, and he's going to get dinged up a little bit, but hopefully not too much that you're out of the game.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: He's really the only part of either of these two trades that we're talking about that does anything for us right now.
[00:29:56] Speaker C: What's really disappointing, actually, is Ahmed Rosario actually played really well over the last third since the All Star break, had finally been playing, uh, which was a short sample size, but I was going.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: To say sample size still.
[00:30:10] Speaker C: And the thing that worries me about Cindergard, too, is not only has he passed his prime, being the Hulk or whatever he was, he's also had a blister on his index finger that's kept him out of action for a while now.
[00:30:24] Speaker B: Hate when I got a Blister on my index finger.
[00:30:25] Speaker C: It sounds like the front office was comfortable with, like he's going to be healthy enough soon enough. That we'll see. But like you said, is it a move that changes the stakes for the Guardians at this point?
[00:30:37] Speaker B: I don't know. Probably not. They also traded Savali to Tampa Bay, which was a little bit more surprising, but it was for one of the top first base prospects in all of Major League Baseball. So I believe the Bone Man was telling me that the first base prospect they got back was around, like, the 30th best prospect in the MLB. So that's a good return. But this was one of those moves that's pretty typical of the Guardians, that's for the next few years, not for right now.
[00:31:05] Speaker C: Yeah, because you already have decent defense with Nailer at first base anyway, and he's one of the only guys that's been consistently hitting all year.
[00:31:16] Speaker B: Yeah, well, first baseman, a lot of them, as their careers progress, they end up moving to, like, DH or something like that.
[00:31:24] Speaker C: Well, I can tell you that. He looks like a DH.
[00:31:29] Speaker B: Man, you just shit on naylor.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: Look, I love the guy. I think he's great.
[00:31:35] Speaker B: That's really messed up, man.
[00:31:36] Speaker C: Fun to watch. He's the snot of the ball. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black, man?
I'm not a professional athlete, okay?
You know what I had to eat today?
[00:31:47] Speaker B: A whole pizza.
[00:31:49] Speaker C: Starbucks, donut Ford Dream Bars.
[00:31:52] Speaker B: I undersold it.
[00:31:54] Speaker C: McChicken, a double cheeseburger, a large fry.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: I really undersold it.
[00:32:01] Speaker C: And I haven't eaten dinner yet.
[00:32:03] Speaker B: That's what gastric bypass is for, right?
[00:32:05] Speaker C: That's right.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: All right, start over.
But, yeah, I think this a volley move, though. It does give me a comfort to know that the Guardians, historically, are very good at knowing when to deal a pitcher. Yeah.
[00:32:17] Speaker C: They win more often than not. It's always shocking when it happens, because you're like, well, he's one of our.
[00:32:21] Speaker B: Best pitchers, and then he falls off within the next two seasons.
[00:32:24] Speaker C: Funny, because we just played this series against Chicago this last weekend, and they had the long haired kid, Clevenger clevenger.
[00:32:34] Speaker B: Started well, they knew, too. He had off the field problems that he was having during COVID and stuff. And on top of that, he had some sort of arm issue where they're like, this guy's. Yeah, he had the like, right after they traded.
[00:32:48] Speaker C: Yeah. And then Shaw came in and closed the game against us. So it was just like a who's who of, like, exclusive pitchers.
[00:32:55] Speaker B: Yep. So all guys that are washed up.
[00:32:57] Speaker C: Though, because we trade them away at the right time yep.
[00:32:59] Speaker B: That gives me comfort because they're very good at that. Next up here, the Cavaliers don't have anything going on, so we're going to skip them. Go, Cavs. In non Cleveland news, kenny's new favorite player is Mac Holland, wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. In an interview this week, he revealed that he doesn't believe in shoes and walks barefoot everywhere he goes. He says he would play barefoot in games if the NFL would allow it. And he was also quoted as saying, I don't like soft people. I don't even like people who eat with utensils. Eat with your hands. That's what they're there for.
[00:33:31] Speaker C: Can you just imagine seeing this guy out of, like, Ken Stewart's Lodge just mauling a ribeye with his hands?
[00:33:41] Speaker B: He's like a true caveman. Right.
[00:33:44] Speaker C: But, like, you're in the NFL, so you have so, like, he probably goes out with his friends to nice restaurants.
[00:33:49] Speaker B: He's eccentric.
[00:33:51] Speaker C: They go to, like, Morton's and Red steakhouse.
[00:33:53] Speaker B: He's not weird. He's eccentric.
But yeah. So, following that, the running back market drama is getting wild right now. Have you been following this?
[00:34:04] Speaker C: No, I don't watch sports. What an idiot.
This is the biggest, most questionable, most baffling thing that's happened in sports. I think maybe in my lifetime, to watch a position that was, for my entire lifetime, valued in a pretty distinctive, pretty important way to now when you have guys that still fit the bill of every downrunner dynamic athlete can catch and run the ball, can do everything you do, everything. Guys they can block, they can protect your quarterback, premier athletes, and faces of the NFL, people who've been on the covers of Madden and on specials, on Netflix and things like these are not just no name guys that made a.
[00:34:53] Speaker B: Roster in the middle of their prime.
[00:34:56] Speaker C: In the middle of their prime. NFL teams are walking away from them saying, we don't need that skill set.
[00:35:03] Speaker B: Yeah. So let me just jump into this real quick. Nick Chubb hopped on a Zoom call, a zoom meeting with other running backs to discuss the state of the position because here are the current free agent running backs, or running backs that are looking for extensions, at least. Jonathan Taylor looking for an extension. Nick Chubb looking for an extension. Josh Jacobs looking for an extension. He's currently franchise tagged, but there's some.
[00:35:28] Speaker C: Stuff going on with Josh Jacobs and the Raiders.
[00:35:31] Speaker B: Yes. Saquon Barkley currently looking for an extension in franchise tagged. And actually, he ended up signing his he signed a deal for one year. He said, I don't want the franchise tag, I just want a one year deal.
[00:35:43] Speaker C: It was basically the exact same as the franchise.
[00:35:45] Speaker B: Yeah. So it's interesting to see what exactly happened with that. Tony Pollard franchise tagged looking for an extension. Dalvin cook, free agent. Kareem hunt. Free agent. Ezekiel Elliott, free agent. Leonard fournette kenyan Drake free agents. And there's about ten others that still haven't signed that are big names that you would know of if I threw them out there.
And the Jonathan Taylor situation just blew up this past week, and it's especially egregious. Jim Ursay actually tweeted out about the running back situation after they had their meeting and said agents are selling, quote, bad faith.
And apparently Jonathan Taylor had went to GM Chris Ballard asking for the trade several days before this tweet came out from Jim Ursay.
Well, then Jonathan Taylor's agent responded to that tweet, saying, quote, bad faith is not paying your best player. So kind of shots fired back and forth here. And then Jim Ursay follows it up by saying the team hasn't and doesn't plan on offering JT an extension. Jim Ursay then invites Jonathan Taylor into his private bus at training camp. They have a meeting, and not long after this meeting is when Jonathan Taylor's trade request becomes public and Ursay immediately reaffirms. They won't offer him an extension.
He continued on to say, quote, if I die tonight and Jonathan Taylor is out of the league, no one will miss us.
And now the Colts, in a shocking twist, are considering placing Jonathan Taylor on the NFI list, which would forfeit his 2023 salary and keep him under contract for an extra year due to an injury he suffered before training camp started.
[00:37:26] Speaker C: I think he's on that list right now? I don't know. It's a permanent thing. I think he has been he did.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: Get placed on a list, but there's a permanent list that they could put him on, too.
[00:37:34] Speaker C: Yeah.
Look, to Jim Mercy I would say, have you seen your team play the last couple of years? Because who have your quarterbacks been?
[00:37:45] Speaker B: Literally your entire team?
[00:37:46] Speaker C: Jonathan Taylor, Ryan Carson wentz like, you haven't had a quarterback since Andrew Luck retired and the only reason you've had any relevancy at all is because Jonathan Taylor has carried that team since he showed up. Oh, yeah, agreed. That is Jonathan Taylor going to go down in the pantheon of greats of all time? Probably not, especially not today's NFL because apparently nobody wants them, but he just won't get the opportunity.
[00:38:14] Speaker B: I laugh, but it's sad.
[00:38:16] Speaker C: But the fact is they've only been relevant and competitive in their division because of him.
[00:38:21] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree. It's just crazy. These are all, again, top name guys. Dalvin Cook is another one that stands out. He's been a free agent for about a month now and nobody's really shown any major interest besides possibly the jets. And because of the lack of interest, I'm willing to bet he's not going to get anywhere near the money he was hoping to get.
[00:38:39] Speaker C: I mean, I know the game has changed and in recent years there hasn't been as many teams that won with belcow running backs, which is fair. But I just feel like again, from the majority of my life, when you think back at the great teams and you think about the battery that moved them, it's quarterback and running back.
You look at some of these guys that had great careers, there was always a good running back behind them. I mean, even here in Cleveland when you had Bernia and Brian Syip and some of these guys, and you had Kevin Mack and you had Ernest Biiner, you always had good running.
I just it's, it's so strange to me because these guys, every skill that a football player needs, they have, and apparently no team needs that.
[00:39:34] Speaker B: Well, it is funny because one of the gripes that the running backs actually have right now is every other position in the NFL. If you play really well, you're rewarded with a second really big contract. Running backs play really well.
They're on pace for record numbers in some cases, and the rest of the NFL, including their own team, looks at them as well. You're over the hump and you're past your prime and we'll just move on into the next guy.
[00:40:00] Speaker C: But isn't that the case with the majority of all players? I mean, you have your special guys like Travis Kelsey that can play for a long time at the top of their position, but think about other guys in the NFL that have great seasons and go Pro Bowlers when they're 24 and 25. They're generally not the same player when they're 29.
[00:40:19] Speaker B: Well, and to that point so why is it only happening to running backs, right, that we're going to say, well, now you got a lot of tread on the tire. You don't have much tread left on the tires. You're banged up because we ran you so many times, whatever the case may be, why is it only happening to running backs that apparently their bodies take wear and tear?
[00:40:38] Speaker C: When I think it was Nick Chubb that said he was like, I could run for 2000 yards and then I would be penalized because I had 2000 yards of wear and tear on my body.
But isn't that my job is to run for 2000?
[00:40:52] Speaker B: What's the incentive for a running back to play well for you?
[00:40:54] Speaker C: What's the incentive for him to play at all?
[00:40:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
And again, as we mentioned, most teams that win have a decent running back.
Everybody's going to sit here and point at Isaiah Pacheco. But Isaiah Pacheco last year played out of his mind for Kansas City, considering what the lack of hype around that guy, like, he was really good and.
[00:41:16] Speaker C: Pacheco probably will be good through the end of his first contract, right.
[00:41:19] Speaker B: And then nobody will never hear from him again because Kansas City is actually the kings of that. They just are like, hey, move on, we'll find someone else because we throw it 95% of the time anyways.
[00:41:30] Speaker C: Yeah. And so I don't know how you fix that. Do you just go back to front loading the draft money with like, hey, we need the best prospects, period. Because they're the ones that are going to make the difference. Those are the ones that are going to put in a window. I don't know of competing.
[00:41:43] Speaker B: It's a big problem that is going to take a big solution. They're probably going to have to get creative because then you start talking about things like in the collective bargaining agreement, do we fix it for instead of doing free agents by position group, do we just do a pool of free agents? That way the franchise tag, when you franchise tag a running back, it's the collective average of salary and so you actually have to pay a running back more money at that point. Is that the way that you do it to make sure that they're getting taken care of?
[00:42:13] Speaker C: They just don't tag them anyway, right?
[00:42:16] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm with you. It's going to take a lot of creativity to figure this out.
[00:42:20] Speaker C: And maybe there's a part of this too, that's like $10 million a year. Sequan it's a lot of money.
Is it? Pat mahomes money. No, you're not going to get Pat Mahomes money, but you weren't going to get Pat Mahomes money anyway.
[00:42:36] Speaker B: But the argument is the only people on the team that get paid less than running backs are punters, kickers, and long snappers.
[00:42:42] Speaker C: Agreed? Agreed.
[00:42:44] Speaker B: And they're way more valuable than most of the people that are getting paid.
[00:42:48] Speaker C: They'Re also the most likely to get dinged up.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: That's fair. I don't know. I don't have the answer. I don't have the answer.
That's how I feel every time I think about it. I just die. Oh, my God.
[00:42:59] Speaker C: I mean, maybe that's the realization is just that because your life expectancy, your potential to get beat up and missed time is greater than those at other positions. We have to devalue the position. But hey, you're still making 10 million a year. So, like, how many people get them the opportunity to make $40 million over four years?
[00:43:18] Speaker B: That's pretty good. Maybe don't run yourself into the ground then.
[00:43:21] Speaker C: Well, here's the thing. If any more of these running backs is going to get a contract, nick Chubb ought to get the biggest contract of any running back in the history of the world because we refuse to run him ever.
[00:43:30] Speaker B: Yeah, I agree. I'm full chubb. I'm full chub for Nick Chubb. I'm full chub for I mean, I don't know. I just don't know how to fix it. But I'm going to move us along here. We got a few other things to talk about before the end of the show here.
Talking about drama in the NFL with the running backs right. There's way more drama going on over with Sean Payton and Robert Salah and this back and forth that they have going. Right.
[00:43:53] Speaker C: It actually feels good to be a year removed from our offseason last year where we were the focus of all the drama.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: Now we get to just watch and laugh.
[00:44:01] Speaker C: And there's actually, outside of the Perry and Winfrey stuff, it's been relatively quiet and.
[00:44:08] Speaker B: Used to not having a lot of drama around the Browns. So it's been nice going on.
[00:44:13] Speaker C: It's wild.
[00:44:13] Speaker B: Yeah. So Sean Payton and Robert Sala are currently going at it because basically Sean Payton came out and shit on Nathaniel Hackett, talking about how terrible of a job he did last year in Denver.
And Aaron Rodgers joined the fray this week and basically came out and said, sean Payton needs to keep my coach's names out his mouth. So it's been kind of back and of you should throw up some of the tweets. There's a lot of good things that have been said back and forth that's been pretty funny. But this has me drooling, absolutely drooling for their week five matchup, because I just want to see fights. I think there's going to be fights on the field. It's going to be great.
[00:44:48] Speaker C: I just think the thing that has to change is Russell Wilson fixed this year. Sean Payton can fix Russell Wilson.
[00:44:54] Speaker B: I've been saying since the beginning of last year that Russell Wilson was washed. Nobody listened to me.
[00:44:57] Speaker C: All right, but he had Nathaniel Hackett there. Maybe Hackett couldn't hack it. Hackett couldn't hack it because he got Hacketted.
[00:45:03] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:45:04] Speaker C: So if anybody can fix anybody, it's got to be Sean Payton?
[00:45:07] Speaker B: I guess so.
[00:45:08] Speaker C: He fixed drew Brees's mended.
[00:45:12] Speaker B: I mean, that's a good point, but we'll see. I'm just excited for them to play each other because I want to see fights.
[00:45:16] Speaker C: You want to watch them play with each other.
[00:45:20] Speaker B: When you put it that way, it doesn't sound more somber. News a scary situation out in California this past week as Brownie James was rushed to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was initially in ICU but has since made what appears to be a full recovery, or at least almost a full recovery and is now at home resting. But there is no timetable that I'm aware of for his return or even any guarantee that he will play at all in what was probably going to be his only season at USC.
[00:45:49] Speaker C: One. Glad he's doing better.
[00:45:51] Speaker B: Yes, absolutely.
[00:45:52] Speaker C: Incredibly scary. As somebody that has had mild cardiac events in my life and on medication for just increased heart rate and things at times, that's scary. Really scary. Because I've had those moments where you kind of feel like you might pass out or it's really hot, something. So to go into full cardiac arrest at 18 years old, terribly tragic odd, because you would think that there's no one outside of them not knowing about some congenital birth defect. There's probably no kid on the planet that's grown up in a more advantageous position. Right. So to be an athlete, a top tier athlete, your dad's a billionaire athlete. You've had nutritionists and exercise teachers and a professional athlete dad your entire life.
For something like that to go unnoticed again, unless it's some kind of just hidden birth ailment strange. I know I'm not going to go all the way down a rabbit hole here, but the stories of young adults even like we had last year with the Buffalo Bills player like Hamler, like.
[00:47:06] Speaker B: You got his jersey.
[00:47:07] Speaker C: These adult SIDS types events are strange and seem to be happening more now than they ever have. So whatever.
[00:47:16] Speaker B: That yeah, but like you said, glad he's doing better.
Terrible for anybody to go through. I don't like that you go through that stuff, man. Don't you go dying on me.
[00:47:26] Speaker C: I'm going to try not to catch you bypass. We'll see how it works.
[00:47:30] Speaker B: See how it works out for him.
In other news, Messi playing for Miami continues to be absolutely freaking wild. Dude looks like he's playing against middle schoolers out there. Just dominating. And did you see Kim K's son? Got an autograph from him.
[00:47:45] Speaker C: If Kim K is there, I've seen it.
[00:47:48] Speaker B: Got an autograph from him, got an autograph from Ronaldo and neymar. Neymar. Whatever you say his name all in the same week. Like, talk about a charmed life for this kid. Like the three top three of the top probably four soccer players in the world. He just meets them and gets their autograph in the same week.
[00:48:06] Speaker C: Your mom is kim Kardashian, and you're hanging out at soccer games. Come on, man. Do something.
[00:48:11] Speaker B: I don't know what that means, but yeah.
Speaking of ladies, travis Kelsey tried to give Taylor Swift his phone number on a friendship bracelet before one of her shows this past week, and she said she did not want it.
[00:48:27] Speaker C: And he took that personally.
[00:48:29] Speaker B: He was very upset by it. He went on his brother's show, his brother's podcast, and talked about it, and he was upset.
[00:48:34] Speaker C: I would take that personally.
[00:48:36] Speaker B: Why wouldn't you? You're Travis Kelsey, right? Like, between you and Mahomes, like, you're the two athletes on top of the.
[00:48:42] Speaker C: World right now, and he's the handsome one.
[00:48:45] Speaker B: He doesn't talk like Kermit the Frog.
[00:48:48] Speaker C: I was actually just thinking about this when the story came. Like, who wants to date Taylor Swift? Look, I know she's on her big tour and all this, and she can do no wrong right now, but she hasn't had a lot of successful relationships, man.
[00:49:02] Speaker B: No. Why would you put yourself on you're setting yourself up for failure.
[00:49:06] Speaker C: This is a time bomb until you are a song.
[00:49:09] Speaker B: Do you want an album written about you? Come on.
[00:49:13] Speaker C: I should have said no. He was in the NFL.
[00:49:17] Speaker B: All right, after that rendition, the Denver Broncos unveiled their new alternate White Helmets this week. They look almost identical to the Browns White Helmets, which is fine.
[00:49:26] Speaker C: Sure do.
[00:49:27] Speaker B: But the Browns, in a continuing trolling effort against the Bengals, tweeted at the Bengals and said, can you believe these guys? After the Bengals gave them shit about their White Helmets. So that was pretty funny. Good move, Browns.
[00:49:42] Speaker C: I'll say it again. The Browns were White Helmets before the Bengals. Even yeah. Clearly no one here is trolling Cincinnati by doing the White Helmet thing.
[00:49:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Also, speaking of Twitter, twitter is now X.
[00:49:57] Speaker C: Yes, it is. My app.
[00:50:00] Speaker B: Mine just updated, too.
[00:50:01] Speaker C: Mine just updated.
[00:50:03] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:50:04] Speaker C: You know what is funny about Twitter being X is I read a lot about Elon Musk, and apparently he wanted you're, a fanboy, to name PayPal X, and that was part of the reason he got booted from the PayPal group.
[00:50:20] Speaker B: He used to own X.com and then he sold it.
[00:50:23] Speaker C: So he's apparently been looking for something to call X his entire life, and now that he's bought his own, he has SpaceX.
[00:50:28] Speaker B: He now has x. He has SpaceX. He has Xx. Next is XXX. Wait, no.
[00:50:35] Speaker C: Well, you know, that's how he named his car Models, right? Because there was the Model S and the Model E.
Or, no, there was the Model S and the model X and the Model Y, and they said, you can't have a Model E because you're 13 years old. So that became the model three. It still kind of says sexy, but he's a big X guy. What can I say?
[00:51:01] Speaker B: Elon's got jokes. And then finally, in the Burning River Rundown not sports related, but Paul Rubins, the actor who played Peewee Herman, has passed away.
[00:51:10] Speaker C: I'm trying to use the phone.
[00:51:15] Speaker B: Was that your best impression?
[00:51:18] Speaker C: I don't really have one, I guess.
[00:51:21] Speaker B: No. Rest in peace, Peewee Herman. I know he's kind of a big part of I didn't really watch him that much when I was younger, but I know a lot of people in our generation.
[00:51:28] Speaker C: He was more like our sisters, just.
[00:51:31] Speaker B: A little bit older than us. They all kind of watched him, and he was pop culture icon and kind of developed a cult following throughout his career.
[00:51:40] Speaker C: I feel like Peewee Herman and Michael Jackson are like, I don't know, on that same wavelength of, like, just strange.
[00:51:47] Speaker B: Yeah, okay. I'm not even going to go there.
[00:51:49] Speaker C: Strange entertainers.
[00:51:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
And so that'll do it for the Burning River Rundown, which leads us to the Burning River Sports. Guys, hot take hotline.
All right, so don't forget to call and leave your hot takes on the hot take hotline. Remember, these are hot takes. I want to hear why you think the preseason is or isn't important, and I want to know why Twitter is now X. Seriously, though, why is Twitter x? I just told you, but I just don't get it. Um, we want hot takes.
[00:52:32] Speaker C: Hot takes.
[00:52:33] Speaker B: We want hot takes.
[00:52:34] Speaker C: We want hot takes. We want hot takes.

[00:53:35] Speaker B: All right, we'll start at 20.

Make sure you check it out. All right, Kenny, what can we expect on our next episode?
[00:53:55] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh. It's a. Special edition episode. We will be infiltrating the bi weekly offseason with another episode oh, boy.
[00:54:05] Speaker B: Of the Burning River sportscast. What are we going to talk about?
[00:54:07] Speaker C: It's time. What are we going to time to learn? What are we learning about a story that we've been investigating for the last year?
[00:54:16] Speaker B: You're not going to give us anything, are you?
[00:54:17] Speaker C: At Tap and Media? What I will tell you is that it does have to do with a local sports team and murder. And murder, actually. That's true. Unfortunately. Yeah.
So stay tuned because this is going to blow your balls off.
[00:54:36] Speaker B: All right. So on that note and then we.
[00:54:40] Speaker C: Will be back to our regularly scheduled episodes. We'll probably get back to weekly here.
[00:54:45] Speaker B: Really biweekly for the offseason, which ends at the end of August.
[00:54:51] Speaker C: Are we calling that the end of the offseason even though preseason is no.
[00:54:55] Speaker B: The end of August. The games start the first week of September.
[00:54:57] Speaker C: I know we got preseason games we could talk about.
[00:54:59] Speaker B: Our first official episode of the new season will be our preview episode.
[00:55:04] Speaker C: All right, here's the thing. We're still bisexual, at least for a little while. But stay tuned for a blow your balls off edition of the Burning River Sportscast.
[00:55:14] Speaker B: And we'll talk about the calves and guardians as needed. So make sure you check us out on social media. Tap in media is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at the Tapin'media and Burning River Sportscast. That's this podcast is on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube at Burning River Sportscast and on Twitter at Burning River pod and you can find our podcast wherever you get your podcasts. I'm talking Apple podcasts. Spotify. Google Podcasts. Amazon Music. Stitcher pandora. iHeartRadio Podcast Castro. Good pods and so many more. And you know what that leads us to, Kenny?
[00:55:42] Speaker C: It's time for Fact for days.
Best enter in the game.
[00:55:57] Speaker B: What do you got for me, Kenny?
[00:55:58] Speaker C: Here's. What I tell you. We're going to go all the way around here today.
[00:56:01] Speaker B: I don't know what that means, but let's go.
[00:56:04] Speaker C: You ever hear Lake Natron?
[00:56:07] Speaker B: Who has it? No, I haven't heard of it.
[00:56:10] Speaker C: Bordap bone man. Lake Natron.
[00:56:13] Speaker D: Never heard of it.
[00:56:14] Speaker C: Lake Natron is a salt or alkaline based lake located in the Arusha region of Tanzania.
[00:56:22] Speaker B: Oh, wow.
Tanzania.
[00:56:25] Speaker C: I would recommend, however, that you don't go swimming in Lake Natron.
[00:56:30] Speaker B: But what if I do?
[00:56:31] Speaker C: If you do, thanks to the high temperature and alkalinity, it will burn you for sure.
[00:56:36] Speaker B: How badly?
[00:56:37] Speaker C: It won't turn you into a mummy instantly, but whoa. If you stay long enough, your body will be hardened and preserved like cement.
What? Yeah, he just gets a straight up medusa. You just go in there and then you'd be swimming, and then all of sudden, A, you can't move.
[00:56:55] Speaker B: I'm devastated. What's next?
[00:56:57] Speaker C: It does have a real still going because of the alkalinity has a reddish hue, which makes it one of the most interesting lakes in the world because it's just a big red lake.
[00:57:06] Speaker B: But don't get in it.
[00:57:06] Speaker C: But don't get in it because you will burn your skin off and turn into a cement statue.
[00:57:11] Speaker B: He didn't live. He died.
[00:57:12] Speaker C: He died.
Number two, baseball has been around for 147 years. No, that's a little over 2323 thousand players who have ever played in a professional baseball game. Okay, so for perspective, the smallest MLB stadium by capacity is the Cleveland Guardians Progressive Field, seating 34,830 fans. Meaning that if every baseball player who has ever lived came to the stadium, the stands would only be 61% full, which is more than their average attendance.
[00:57:48] Speaker B: I was going to say that's probably more fans than they typically get.
[00:57:53] Speaker C: And number three, we're going all the way there today, bro.
[00:57:58] Speaker B: Oh, boy. What do you got? What do you got?
[00:58:01] Speaker C: The following PSA we're going to talk about your health here.
[00:58:04] Speaker B: Okay. I like to be healthy. I'm not very healthy, but I like.
[00:58:08] Speaker C: The following PSA is brought to you by the American Electrician's Handbook in 1942, this is how you would resuscitate someone from an electric shock.
[00:58:23] Speaker B: I'm listening. This is going to be good.
[00:58:25] Speaker C: Number one, lay the patient on his or her back.
[00:58:29] Speaker B: Okay. I can get on board.
[00:58:31] Speaker C: Makes sense.
[00:58:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:58:32] Speaker C: Number two, move the tongue back and forth in the mouth by seizing it with a handkerchief or the fingers while working the arms to induce respiration.
A little weird, right? But you can still see how that makes the sense. Some, yeah.
[00:58:46] Speaker B: Okay, I don't see how that makes sense, but go on.
[00:58:49] Speaker C: Number three, don't pour anything down the patient's throat.
[00:58:52] Speaker B: Well, clearly you don't want to introduce liquids.
[00:58:54] Speaker C: No, you don't.
[00:58:55] Speaker B: You don't want to close that circuit.
[00:58:56] Speaker C: You might want to introduce liquids for number four, though, because number four.
[00:59:04] Speaker B: What is it?
[00:59:04] Speaker C: Number four says try to cause the patient to gasp by inserting the first and second fingers in the rectum and pressing them suddenly and forcibly towards the back.
[00:59:15] Speaker B: No way.
[00:59:17] Speaker C: That's what you did in 1942. Hell, yeah. That's how you wake people up.
[00:59:23] Speaker B: No way.
You just straight, like just finger banger salad.
[00:59:33] Speaker D: You first get shocked, and then you get the shocker.
[00:59:40] Speaker B: Wow. This show has gone totally off the rail.
[00:59:43] Speaker C: Off the rails.
[00:59:44] Speaker B: That's a legit thing, though. That's what they told you to do.
[00:59:47] Speaker C: That is straight from McGraw Hill Book Company.
[00:59:51] Speaker B: Can we get a copy of that for the studio?
[00:59:53] Speaker C: We got a copy of it. Some of our friends who work in the field have safety tapes with this stuff on.
[00:59:59] Speaker B: Oh, my God.
[01:00:00] Speaker C: Anyway, two fingers in your rectum sounds like a problem, but if you're going to be a problem, don't just be a part of the problem, be the whole damn problem.
[01:00:09] Speaker B: And remember, only you can prevent river fires. Burning river sportscast.
[01:00:15] Speaker C: Burning river sportscast.
I am forcibly insert.
[01:00:26] Speaker B: Would you wake up that's graphic. Would you wake up? Yeah, but what's the point of all the stuff before that? You just do that. You win.
I mean, I don't win. You win.
[01:00:39] Speaker C: You just forcibly insert your fist into my ass.
[01:00:44] Speaker B: Good lord. Think of all the people that were sexually harassed back in the day just because they passed out.
I got a little hot today and passed out due to the heat. And then I got fingers up my butt.
[01:00:54] Speaker C: That's why every electrician starts off his morning by vaseline in his bumhole.
[01:00:58] Speaker B: Is that why?
[01:00:59] Speaker C: That's right. Burning river sports gas.
[01:01:02] Speaker B: Burning river.
[01:01:04] Speaker C: You know why, Mr? Because you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight. I drove an $80,000 BMW.
[01:01:11] Speaker A: That's my name.
[01:01:13] Speaker B: And did you see Kim K's son got an autograph from him?
[01:01:17] Speaker C: If Kim K is there, I've seen it.
[01:01:20] Speaker A: Everyone in this room is now dumber.
[01:01:23] Speaker C: For having listened to it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
I should have said no. He was in the NFL.
[01:01:35] Speaker B: All right, after that rendition, it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
Have you been following this?
[01:01:44] Speaker C: No, I don't know. I don't watch sports. What an idiot.
[01:01:47] Speaker B: Erroneous. Erroneous on both counts.
[01:01:51] Speaker C: Ralph, I don't know where you're getting your statistics.
[01:01:55] Speaker B: So Kenny does not like the dog and does not want it at midfield.
[01:01:58] Speaker C: Guys, I don't want it anywhere.
[01:02:00] Speaker B: All right? We're done with the browns. That's it. That's all the browns is. Just shut up. Shut your mouth.
[01:02:05] Speaker C: I'm going to make a urinal.
[01:02:06] Speaker B: Shut your mouth. You're just coming off stupid. All right, so the next step, we have the Guardian.
[01:02:10] Speaker C: Where's logo girl when you need her motorboat? You play the motorboat, you motorboat son of a bitch.
[01:02:16] Speaker B: You old sailor. You way. You just straight finger banged her salad.
[01:02:24] Speaker D: You first get shocked and then you get the shocker.
